The hallways leading up to the room are old, tired (stains on carpet flooring), and just outdated.

although I felt the hotel was well kept and I’m sure the carpets are cleaned regularly, the stains from wear and tear can be a bit off putting.

There were a couple of small stains that look like red wine in our room carpet that I mention only because it was the only thing that kept our room from being total perfection.

Carpets were stained which was a bit of a turn off.

Only one minor quibble was stains on the carpet, which probably is difficult for any property to stay on top of,

Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms spacious and homey, and so so so much complimentary goods and services!

Staff were friendly particularly young lady I believe her name was Joana was extremely helpful.

If we were to return to Lisbon, we would stay at the Corpo Santo again.

There are people who open the door and get the lift for you.

There was a doorman that handled the door as well as opened the elevator door for you.

We were afraid that the tiny elevator would be an issue,

It is classic old school hotel etiquette.Like never let guest touch the elevator door.

but charming elevator;  the wall paintings in the bar area that highlight Portugal's colonial past, and the historic exhibits about the hotel that can be found throughout the lobby.

The doormen even opened the elevator doors for us; attention was paid to every detail.

Don't bother with the queue for the lift for Santa justa.

We were on the 6th floor (there is a lift) and the only issue we had was in the morning when the water pressure wasn't great if others were showering and we  sometimes had to wait till the water came back on!

but very quiet - it is about a 20 minute walk to the waterfront and also the Bairro Alto area via the elevator Gloria.

however there are steps and I didn't spot a lift so unless you're young and fit it's probably not for you.

The lift is small european style from the 40's

It was across from the elevator, and we were afraid of noise from it,

The elevator is tight in case you have large pieces of luggage to transport.

The elevator is one of the old time elevators.

The old fashioned lift with a hinged door and inner sliding doors was cute,

And the front door was very heavy and the elevator was small.

The hotel feels 1940s with old style elevator and there is a definite feel of skimping,

but the reviews for the hotel were all good so I booked, so happy that I did, we loved the hotel, it has such a welcoming atmosphere and the staff are attentive and friendly, they really know there guests.

The staff were very friendly and spoke multiple languages as it was full with f guests from across the globe.

We had a very welcoming and pleasant stay at Hotel Britania.

We know that he makes all those he meets feel that way and that is a credit to this wonderful hotel because he is representative of the entire staff.

Front office staff was extremely helpful and cheerful.

The staff were great and the hotel location was only a short block from the main road leading to the city center.

The staff were excellent, helpful and kind.

The sole bathroom negative was the sink was a pedestal style and there was a shelf at the end of the bathtub and one wall shelf for toiletries, so there was not a great deal of dry space to put one's toiletries.

Only reason it lost a star was because the walls are a little thin and we had a noisy couple next to us.

Two downsides with my room were that 1) the walls seemed to be paper-thin - I heard the people in the room next to me loud and clear.

He went over and above his role to make our stay a memorable one, offering  assistance with everything and anything and also providing  the history of the hotel from the photographs displayed on the wall and local knowledge. .

On the walls are photos taken in the hotel of a bygone era.

The guest rooms are spacious with every appointment: an entrance foyer, refrigerator, full and roomy bathroom, tea, coffee, loads of closet and storage space, double glazed windows so no sound from outside erupts into the room, thick walls so you do not hear the people in the next room, cork floors for noise cancellation.

Street noise plus the walls and floors were thin.

but there is a remote control for the full wall-sized blind for a full wall of windows/sliding glass doors onto our very private wood balcony that felt like being back in Japan.

However in the afternoon the maid appeared with a stool to enable me to step up and something with suction cups for the wall to have something to hold onto.

These always smell, and should be changed into a glass wall.

The hotel also harkens to its nostalgic background, offering a selection of 1940s black and white movies on DVDs for guests to borrow for in-room use; walls have historic photographs and artwork; it serves tea and port wine in the sitting area off the lobby each afternoon and evening.

The walls in the room are a little thin and with the older-style doors and wooden floorboards, you can sometimes hear your neighbours to the side and above you.

The walls between bedrooms may have been slightly thin - we were sometimes aware of neighbours' TVs and footsteps on the cork floors.

Very nice hotel in the heart of the city, 10 min walking distance from Rossio, open and friendly atmosphere, rooms are not most modern anymore,

Really friendly staff with suggestions for things to do and who in our case booked a tour in Portuguese over the phone.

But light was turned off, and the buffet was not completely full.

The room was lovely, just the wardrobe was a bit small and I was lacking light in the room, which is really important once in a business trip.

but it would have been nice to be able to turn a big light on had we wanted to!

When some lights were turned on , others turned off.

Spacious enough to do my exercises. The only small things I'd change: the lighting in room was low (energy saving?)

I am not giving the highest score because the bed wasn't the most comfortable and we struggled to get the lights right, we had all 4 days the bathroom in the dark ( yes I could have asked for help ).

However, the switch for the WC also controls the bed-side lights.

Light switches are odd-- instead of being able to say turn on the bathroom light you have to select a theme from reading, TV, relax, welcome and such.

The lights were out when I got into bed (so I didn't notice)

Room was perfect, the only complaint i would have is that the bathroom was quite dark (noticed on the last morning that a bulb was missing so this could have contributed to the darkness).

The room was a bit over- designed and operating the lights was not logical to us.

but there were a couple of areas for improvement:
- the lighting in the room is pretty dim, especially in the bathroom
- service at breakfast on the second day was very slow (we left without getting our tea/coffee)
Overall, would definitely return and recommend to friends.

Noticed our main drop lighting was flickering and called for it to be repaired, I was surprised it was the same people from reception that changed the faulty light bulb, problem was solved easily.

During the first night of our stay, we discovered that the main lighting in our room was not working, and hence, we changed into a new room the following morning.

but I do want to say that I like how one can control all of the light switches and dim the lights from the bed.

Only complaint was that the rooms could have had better lighting.

Only remarkable thing we found was that the lighting in the bathroom area was not bright.

The hotel is brilliantly located and everyone in the hotel staff very professional.

The facilities and restaurants were very good and provided excellent food and drinks.

We couldn’t fault anything even the sweets at reception was a lovely touch.

Small, bathroom was only partitioned from room with a see through glass half wall.

Urine stains on the walls of the toilet are not a pleasant sight to encounter! !

but the shower and sink area has a glass wall.

The only cautionary note would be that the bathroom features semi-transparent glass walls which provide no real privacy for the room.

There is an opening in the wall between the bedroom and the bathroom, and has a sliding door to the toilet.

A short walk to the square and harbor access to a myriad of cafes both those aimed at the tourist market and the tiny hole in the wall that sat less than ten, great atmosphere in the old part of town, walk to the markets on block and an easy walk up to the castle.

The shower and main bedroom/living area were separated by a glass wall, allowing light to run all the way through the room.

The only downside is that the view from my room was a wall,

A further poor design issue  is that the wall that separates the bathroom from the bedroom is not a full wall -
 there is a large opening between the bathroom and bedroom, such that the noise and light from one person using the bathroom will disturb their partner who is still trying to sleep.

Also shower floor could be extended as shower glass wall is rather short, so water can run onto the hotel bedroom floor.

I think it would be much better located along the wall where the video was playing.

The standard rooms are a little on the small side and ours had no view other than the wall of the building opposite, if views and space are important I would suggest upgrading.

Waste of time asking as we were given a 1st floor room with a look-out onto a brick wall 4 yards away.

The regular double room was a bit less comfortable as there is no wall between room and bathroom.

but they have Nespresso machines with coffee pods in the rooms

bathroom> darkened glass walls, so the person showering is visible in the bedroom.

Some odd features such as the single door for the bathroom and wardrobe, and the glass shower walls so you could see right in from the bedroom, were actually less weird once you got used to them!

I asked if a desk or table could be brought into the room and Marta said no, that they were all glued to the walls in the other rooms.

but be aware that the shower sits one third into the middle of the room and has clear walls.

The only negative point was the lack of soap in the bathroom and a problematic high tech lighting system that avoids additional wlectric points on the walls.

The staff were attentive and friendly yet professional.

A Valet parked our car for us, the check-in was as smooth and friendly as anyone could hope for, then walking into our room was a bottle of champagne in ice bucket and chocolates.

The location is ideal, the staff is super helpful and friendly, the rooms are lovely, the breakfast is excellent.

We spent time in the lounge and it was enjoyable, the drinks great and the bar staff friendly.

Housekeeping staff were very friendly and punctual.

Everyone we met was friendly yet professional, and we were touched by the many small kindnesses we experienced during our stay.

I just loved this hotel from the second I entered and throughout my 3 night stay,  The location was wondaful, the room was comfortable and had quality bedding and towels, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet was superb.

We wound up going to the bar every day (sometimes twice a day) to relax or get a bite and the people there were so nice and friendly.

From the check-in staff to the bellmen to the concierge--everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly.

The only minor negatives were the shower being on the small side and we had a couple days of missed turndown service.

The bad thing is the bathroom was so small and it's not advisable to open door widely because the toilet seat blocks it, a sliding door will be better option

but can’t recommend because of short-sighed corporate policy that requires that the totally unnecessary door in the tiny bathroom that is just always in the way (it HAS to be closed to sit on the toilet which means your significant other is trapped either in or out while you are sitting) HAS to remain in place and they would not remove it upon request even though there is already a door separating the bathroom from the bedroom in the small hall.

For a suite of that size, the bathroom was tiny, just filling some spare space between the two rooms.

Both times, they set up the kids' area in the cutest way, with tiny bathrobes and slippers for them!

It was joined by a dark corridor and had a tiny bathroom, with a shower that my husband could barely fit in.

The bathroom is small, Two people were hardly can use at same time.
