No air conditioning -which is typical of a European hotel -

though it was a warm room with no air conditioning, i opened the balcony door to let some air in.

Travel in spring or fall if you can, as with most hotels in Europe there is no A/C.

The rooms are not very exciting, especially in the back of the hotel (a little loud with the dumpster and air conditioner).

Lots to see and do from the Hotel and book the 3/4 pension offer as the food is really great and plentiful.

The avocado tempura was a creative take and delicious.

We booked the 3/4 board meaning, breakfast, afternoon snack and dinner.

but the organization and internal communication very lacking: no clear overview of daily activities, breakfast starts at 7.00, but you just discovered when you are there that early that you can only sit outside after 8.00, to keep noises down (nice to know that _before_ waking up that early and looking forwards to sitting in the sunny terrace to enjoy the view.

Breakfast buffet was good -busy and congested in the food area.

Our breakfasts were great, you name it and it was available.

Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the lake was gorgeous, attentive staff and delicious food, a very good variety of cereals, cooked food, cold meats/cheeses and pastries, all very well presented.

The breakfast is with a good choice and good quality.

This hotel is great-- very relaxed, beautiful views and has only changed for the better as years have gone by ---  Have been coming here for a long time and the staff is always great, the breakfast and lunch/dinners are super and the rooms extremely comfortable and did I say the view?

So try to take breakfast outside at the terrasse.

Beds were comfortable and the breakfast was very good.

Staff were extremely helpful and we very much enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners.

Most glorious location for a great hotel for couples and families.

The Eibsee is a dream location in southern Germany.

Primarily, this hotel is about the location on the Eibsee, at the foot of the new cable car to the top of the Zugspitze.

We love the beautyful location, the well maintained building and the friendly and attentive service - be it at the reception or the service stuff, the restaurant or house keeping.

Overall, we arrived in wonder for the location and we left "wondering" about all the rest.

Also, the location is perfect: one can take the cablecar or the train to the Zugspitze, the bus or train to Garmisch and all are very near to the hotel.

The location is unbeatable, especially with the Lake view room.

Our location and the view from our balcony was superb.

It's simply stunning location tells its own story, given room 221 overlooking Lake Eibsee, lovely room with two beds, beautifully clean, well appointed bathroom.

It is in the most beautiful location and direct access to the lake means swimming and boating (free canoes and stand up paddling on the beach) in the summer.

The Hotel is located right at the Eibsee with a full View into the Mountains.

We booked the Eibsee hotel purely because of it's location and the location did not let us down.

Very clean, warm staff, great service and with a great position, right in front of Eibsee Lake and highest peak of Zugshpitz.

but the quality is rather poor and sometimes the dishes are cooked badly.

We had to wait around in the bar (where we got one drink before the poor bar-man vanished again) for an hour and a half before we got available tables. Ridiculous.

Pros:  The view, the location, "old world feel" and basically a nice place to visit. Cons:  VERY poor service in the restaurant - I almost jumped up and said several times "We need someone to actually wait on us here!"

Only criticism was the TV - is located at a very poor angle from the bed and also the volume did not work properly.

The only downsides are the Internet access and speed are quite poor, and there are no irons in the room -

Europe's ubiquitous poor customer service still managed to rear its head during our stay, albeit mildly: My wife and I were addressed in a condescending manner once by staff at the front desk and were yelled at like children by the hotel's boat operator, who when confronted appologized.

Wi-Fi is free - our connection was poor as we were at one of the furtherest points from reception,

There were no English tv channels, there was poor lighting, and the wifi was free

The dinner in the main restaurant is generally awful, busy and slow.

The keys are still physical keys and lift is slow.

The service was painfully slow and as another person noted there were children running up and down the restaurant so the atmosphere was not particularly good.

The only slight negative we had was that the service was quite slow if you went to the restaurant at busy times.

WLAN - a 4 star hotel without working WIFI, or only very slow Wifi in the lobby that regularly disconnects is just not acceptable in 2014. they really need to invest in this - very annoying when you have to do sth.

Was an old worn down room, smell of mold in bath room and lazy staff, very slow service except for some few.

Wonderful sauna and indoor pool for those rainy days and a fabulous walk around the lake for spectacular scenery.

If you factor in the meals and actually use all the spa facilities and the local transport Ticket with discounts, the deals are reasonable.

The hotel facilities are great, pool, spa, sauna and snooze room - a perfect break 😁

A great hotel with superb spa for my wife, great food for both of us.

The hotel has spa facilities and a swimming pool which are really nice.

The free spa is exceptional and everyone using it seemed to love it.

My wife a non-skier greatly enjoyed walking in the local area around the lake and pampering herself in the excellent Spa facilities.

There is also a wonderful chill out area overlooking the lake in the spa.

Take a walk around the lake and absolutely use the spa.

This hotel is a great all rounder - you don't have to ski, you have so much to keep you occupied from views to the brilliantly crafted Spa.

The spa is a must with amazing views across the lake from the Sauna, relax room and pool.

Can walk to the tram or ride the train or a bus into Garmisch and other surround areas.

They offer free train access to Garmisch if you don’t want to drive.

but with easy access via road and mountain railway.

Be sure to use all of the amenities and take the cog train to the top of Zügspitze!

It was easy to take the cog wheel train to the Zugspitze for skiing and to arrive from Munich, via Garmisch.

but connection to Garmisch and other surroundins is very easy with the local train and bus.

Convenient location to summit train (less that 150m), dress well for the trip up, the ambient temp was 25-30f colder at the summit and wind chill easily double that.

Take the train and gondola to the Summit of Zugspitze, where you can enjoy the view with a beer and bratwurst.

Its great that you get a Grainau card free on check in which gives you free travel too and from Grainau and Garmisch by bus or cogwheel train.

Parking was easy, and the bus and train are easy and accessible, too.

Walk to the cable car, train into Garmisch, hiking trails around the lake, paddle boats for the lake, and a Bavarian charm.

Easy access to the train and cable car to Zugspitze, or you can just go round the lake on a very accessible path.

We travelled by train from Munich and bus replacement service to Garmisch, we were told by a station official to take a taxi to the hotel which cost 25 euros,

but  there is bus and train transport to town.

Within a few minutes walk of the hotel door there is a cable car which can lift you to the summit of the Zugspitz in ten minutes, or a train which does the same thing at a more leisurely pace - €51 round trip.

As a visitor we were issued with a Grainau card by the hotel and this entitled us to free use of the Zugspitze train and bus between the Eibsee and Garmisch.

Took 7.30am Friday train from Munich main station and on the Zugspitze slopes above Eibsee before 11.30am (having hired equpment at the Eibsee cable-car station).

Its right on the spot  to catch the train or the cable for the ski slops.

We love the peace, the simplicity, a good breakfast and a nice and clean room.

An excellent breakfast, a perfectly maintained room with bathroom, beautiful view of the surroundings and super facilities for storing ski equipment.

Breakfast gives a huge choice of cold meats, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, rolls etc to send you on walks and bike rides in this stunning area.

The breakfasts were excellent and the rooms very comfortable.

Breakfast was a traditional continental style with lovely bread rolls fresh from the bakery each morning.

We started every morning with a delicious breakfast with boiled eggs, bread, cheeses, meats, cereals, fruit and hot and cold drinks.

Good breakfast, comfortable bed, a breathtaking view, quiet surroundings what more can you ask for and all that for a reasonable price.

Continental breakfast is excellent and they take great personal care of everything.

The view from the rooms (at least the one I was in during both stays) is simply stunning, the breakfast is exactly what you need to get the right start for a day in the mountains and they even have a gym in the basement if you didn't get enough exercise.

It's been the second time that I chose it for a weekend hiking and climbing trip because of the welcoming and familiar atmosphere, the centric location and the reasonable price.

Which in my case included organising an urgent trip to the local dentist!

We have enjoyed the excellent hospitality of Gary and Evelyn (and Heidi the Labrador) on 2 occasions and have already planned our 3rd trip.

We stayed in Haus Karl's Ruh mid January for our short ski trip.

On a recent 5 week trip to Europe Haus Karl's Rue was on our agenda for a 2 day stay in October.

It was a great place to stay and plenty to do - from rides up the Zugspitze, to the local pools (for which you get a discount with a guest card), walking and renting bikes for cycle trips.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Haus Karl's Rue in December last year for a snowboarding trip.

Breakfast and dinner were excellent again, I suggest you book half-board, it's really worthwhile and saves you from having to hunt for eateries in the evening when you're tired from the day.

PS The breakfast buffet is very, very large and offers almost everything for anybody.

This hotel offers a resort experience with dinners included in the price (20EUR pp) or you can simply buy the buffet dinner for that price as needed.

We booked half-board and both the breakfast and dinner were good.

Excellent breakfast included in room price.

The breakfast buffet offered a vast selection of very good food.

The food was delicious and the variety was never ending.

Breakfast was amazing, I never seen so many choices in my life.

The main building also houses all 4 restaurants and the breakfast room.

Had a great swim before the dinner and before the breakfast and our 6 year old son just loved playing in the pool.

The only down side is that the tasty pancakes we enjoyed was only out on the buffet our first morning.

The hotel is larger than most in this area because the older (and perfectly renovated) building is connected with the newer (and perfectly fitting in style) building across the road.

Our room was in the main building with the reception and restaurant

i found especially the tunnel between the buildings to be a timetravel experience.

as for ALL the facilities you have to go out and walk to the main building where everthing is.

The place is big and is divided over different buildings.

but it's a large complex of several buildings and a lot of parking (the parking can still get full).

My wife and I stayed in room 209 in the building across the street from the main building.

A river runs right next to the building we were in and made for great background noise.

The main building is a nice country house, with a  terrace to relax after a hike.

If you're not placed in the main building, you'll have to cross the street for your breakfast.

Beautiful location and attractive buildings.

Pretty town with restaurants and shops and beautiful traditional buildings.

It was in the accomadation building across from the hotel so very very quiet.

I had to check  with them a few times and finally got an answer that they cant accomodate us.

We insisted to go back to our room to get refreshed before driving later and check either we didn't forget something (what turned out to be true).

but still have old fashioned bathtup showers which can be challenging  and "dangerous" specially for older people whenn climbing in and out of the bathtub.

My only concern was the bath in our room which was situated under a sloping eve meaning that unless you are young/limber gets out of the bath involves a very high risk of banging your head which does make it rather dangerous.

Lot's to do in the neighbourhood: biking, hiking, bus and train stops in front of the hotel.

Clean rooms - big swimming pool  with very long opening hours.

And at the same time the Wellness area in the Hotel is really nice - with lots of saunas and a swimming pool.

A great swimming pool and sauna/spa makes this hotel even better.

I choosed a 4 star hotel because I usually like the atmosphere within it, the lounge, the restaurant, the crowds, the vibes..etc..if I wanted to stay in an apartment or a flat I would certainly book something through airbnb or homelidays.. Plus, I took this hotel because of the swimming pool and a spa

The view of the zugspitz, the morning walk in the moor, the starry night, the excellent 5-course dinner and the wonderful breakfast buffet!

but to stay here full board - is really good; breakfast is absolutely 5* and the dinner menu is interesting, varied and genuinely delicious - served by cheerful, enthusiastic staff who seem to make a good experience even better.

Dinner includes a 5-course meal (with at least 2 choices for the starter and the main course) and breakfast has a lot of choice and is tasty as well.

The food was excellent, a buffet breakfast with plenty of choices and a superb 5 course dinner.
