The toilet kept running every minute and was so LOUD it drowned out the TV.

We went to the front desk and she gave us a new room on the 8th floor so we went to check it out before returning to the original room; when we walked in we found crickets in the bathroom and heard the symphony of crickets!! Crazy.

Do you know they still charged us a full day with the resort fee (which offers no amenities for this bogus charge) they charge you for coffee and 2.50 for little small water bottle.

Well, the stall we were given didn't happen to align with our hookups (due to the way they wanted us to park), so we asked to move to another vacant space where we could connect too the services.

Had to switch rooms because the shower head was only about 5’6” high.

In room 1515 their was a problem with the A/C there was a loud somewhat whistling sound so we decided to leave it on the lowest temp and high pressure setting in hopes it would go away on its own.

The shower head is too low and not suitable for tall people.

Their safe is key operated still LOL and the shower pressure was the equivalent of a few babies pissing on you at once, no pressure.

Not all the lamps worked, the sink had a chip, and the tub had what looked like stains.

Thinnest and cheapest toilet paper I have ever seen.

The bathroom was pretty small and I wish it would have been bigger and have a vent.

Evidently, housekeeping failed to properly clean the bathroom (even after specifically requesting the bathroom be cleaned).

but the shower controls on our second visit were far less finicky.

OK for a budget property - only real complaint if there is one, is that they did not provide tissues in the bathroom.

The room was dirty fire alarm on the wall was full of mold along with the wall paper in the sink area.

Water pressure was weak, so they sent a maintenance guy name Frank, who took care of the problem in no time.

If you happen to go into the men's bathroom outside the buffet, they have a section of the Berlin Wall along the back of the urinals.

I literally had to bend over in the shower because the shower head is so low.

By midnight we had called the Plaza and booked a suite and by 12:30am we had hauled our luggage over to the Plaza where we had a fantastically clean and quiet room for the remainder of our vacation.

Whenever I visit Las Vegas I make a point to visit the Garden Cafe at Main Street Station, the people are always friendly, the dining area is kept clean.

It's beautiful and clean and totally over priced and not accommodating to guests who have a long stay.

The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly.

Never any issues, room always clean, staff VERY nice.

I was very pleased at how the room was exceptionally clean and get this, the shower pressure was excellent.

Excellent Wifi and extremely clean and new bathrooms that is heated.

but is clean and a comfy bed for the time you are there.

The old train station decor was charming, the room was neat and clean, the personnel were friendly and helpful.

The casino was bright, clean and a safe entertainment area.

The rooms are clean and the hotel is beautiful.

The room has plenty of space, it was clean, and the house keepers took care of the room each day.

The bathroom was dark, claustrophobic, and FILTHY, with hair, dirt, hand prints, and crumbling tile and grout everywhere.

but the lack of apology or anything else upon hearing how we were treated would discourage me for patronising the hotel as well.

It was extremely inconvenient that we were woken up by that noise.

The window glass is really thin and you could hear busy road and railway 24/7, if you’re a light sleeper then ear plugs are a must.

This hotel/casino is not quite on the fremont experience, which keeps the noise down for the hotel guest trying to get some sleep!

but far enough away that you don't hear all the noise.

Main Street station – we stayed in the RV park, it’s a parking lot near the highway with overpass above the park, in which surprisingly was not so noisy.

but a light sleeper might be woken by the passing trains.

Needs a major renovation, and the interstate is so close you are woken up all night from the vehicles and trucks driving by.

Many of the reviews that we read were a little alarming and full of complains about the noise, the smell.

Rooms are okay, nothing great: shutters on the windows don't block outside lights, loud heater, frequent train and nearby highway add to noise level.

If you play video poker don't forget they always have a promotion by which you get a scratch card with a random monetary prize every time you hit 4 of a kind (just make sure you call the attendant and show the hand)
The rooms are ample and fairly decent, the only issue for me being the noise from the freeway, and yes, you can hear it from both sides of the hotel.

If you dont mind waking up to the sounds of a train.

As some reviewers noted, train noise was a bit of an issue.

Heard the train whistle one time, otherwise, no outside noise.

While the traffic did not bother me,  a train did come by during the night and was briefly loud.

It is adjacent to the freeway so like I see posted, there COULD be exposure to noise

Our room on the 17 th floor was subject to highway noise all day & night.

but could still hear the train noise and were woken up throughout the night.

About 11pm we come back to the room to watch TV and we start hearing a cricket joining the now symphony in our hotel room consisting of the rumbling AC, whistling windows, frequent crash of trains rushing by the window, and the toilet running every minute.

There is a lack of outlets close to the bed and the train rolls by every so often so honk honk (I knew this in advance).

The one downside is that you are near some active railroad tracks and sometimes the trains going by can wake you up.

The room was also quite noisy due to the nearby railway and freeways and could do with a little refurb,

The worst thing is the noise of the road ,train noise is not so

The only negative about this hotel is the noise from trains and cars that pass nearby.

but trains run often, also during the night.

Unfortunately, the train was louder and woke me up at all hours of the night

but there is some noise from the Fremont Street Experience and passing 
trains, but still preferable to the north side.

We had a bit of noise from the freeway on the first stay (floor 9, looking towards the mountains) and noise from the train line on both occasions (2nd time looking towards Freemont, floor 16)

Our stay at The El Cortez was clean , secure & the staff were friendly & attentive.

It was very nice - clean, remodeled/modernized, and spacious.

New renovated rooms are very large and bathroom was big, wrist bracelet fir room key was annoying and not a fashion statement, tables and slots area is clean and nice, servers came around while gambling, free parking and valet was nice, would stay again

The housekeeping staff are lovely and keep the rooms neat and clean.

Housekeeping was great and our room was super clean.

There was a good layer of dust over everything.

Make sure to get a players card and use it all the time.

The front desk supervisor clearly lied to us when we indicated that there were no rooms available, and then had the audacity to try and charge me for the larger suite price for the remaining 3 nights in a petite room.

Was allowed to check in a 10am without any type of up charge.

My biggest complaint is the players card was easily defective, I went through 4 cards.

I asked her to pull my $$ in with my players card,

We were given a compensation of 1-day’s refund of the amenity charge, which amounted to about $27.

but perhaps they could invest in card readers instead.

I would have given them 5/5 if wasn't for the washrooms in the premium tower room for having to wear a wristband and for charging a resort fee when they really are not offering anything.

After getting to look at the logs there was an entry at 10:31 with a card using the same number as my card

I presented my credit card for the stay, an amount of $520.

After a 7 day stretch they charged us a daily $25 fee for staying past 7 days.

To his credit, FOH manager was helping bus.

*****HOTEL GUESTS BEWARE***** returned from Las Vegas 13 hours ago & had a $150 charge on my credit card for "room damage" from El Cortez.

en april 17 we go to el cortez and we have reservatiion just for one night  we pay 213.39  take for my card.

My charge card was billed an additional 97 bucks with no invoice or explanation of charges to back it up.

So I sulk crying to my room- no credit cards or even identification, while the thief is given permission to gamble, drink, and enjoy the casino.

Banging doors in the hallway and a loud siren like beeping caused by too many unsuccessful key card attempts are what kept me up until 2:45 am.

December 18, 2019 El Cortez went into my account again charge $10.00.

Ours barely spoke except to count out the cards and sat there with sour looks on their faces.

Its a pity they done know how to mop the floors because they remained  filthy for the whole stay.

Aside from the bad smells (the elevator smells of urine) and the lumpiest mattress of my lifetime, the worst part was being awakened by aggressive banging on my room door by a shabbily dressed security officer (wrinkled shirt and ratty uniform) who insisted he had to take me down to the front desk - that I had not paid.

We were relocated to room 1508, it was just as filthy.

but this time we had a particularly nasty cocktail waitress.

Sleeping is going to be  tough with the smoke odor and club music.

Terrible smell of cleaner throughout the hall and rooms, No hot water in shower any time we showered.

It is dark, smells of alcohol and cigarettes.

The El Cortez definitely has that old Las Vegas feel (and smell) to it.

only six tables in the smaller area, smoky and grungy, and a few 10 splitters due to low stakes.

We stayed here due to the fact none of the other downtown hotels offered smoking rooms.

They should be happy anyone still comes in the smoky smelly old casino!!!

It is so bad that you can smell the nicotine on your clothes, after a night here.

The Casino was musty from cigarette smell and the area of the strip is definitely the old part of town,

The light shined urine all around the toilet walls- just gross.

I am impressed by the remodel casino floor ( new carpet, less smoking, new slot machines) .

No more dingy carpets and smoke stained walls.

Also, you can play blackjack and not worry that some gross smelling homeless guy is gonna sit down next to you.

On the other hand, I stayed directly across from the club that plays music until 3:30 am.

All night music from the club down the street.

If you gamble the Club Cortez staff will reward you.

The Club Cortez folks are also helpful and do a great job.

Upon signing up for the Club Cortez program I was given a "fun book" with $5 match play, $5 meal comp, free drink, free keepsake, $5 free play, and other great offers!

The bathroom had an extractor fan, basin and toilet, along with a with a multiple head shower system.

The bathroom smelt like urine, and they gave us only two towels for two people for 4 days and they never came to clean our room.

Was on the 16th floor of the North Tower..only positive was the size of the room…it seriously needs updating also it smelled of pot….the bathroom was something out of the 1970s and there wasn’t any plugs in the sink or Bath…the coffee maker well I value my health so I had to rigorously clean it and only had 1 cup of coffee in all of my 3 nights staying there 🤢…Another positive was the location just around the corner from the Golden Nugget where the tours pick you up…the Fremont experience was on your doorstep too…the area wasn’t too bad

but bathroom looked like it had mold and tons of dust.

I am neither putting on my suit and walking across the street nor changing in the bathroom.

Everything was dirty, curtains falling down, dirty floor, you had to push the water down the drain in the shower.

My shower/bath leaks nonstop, the service is pretty much nonexistent.

The bathroom counter was stained and scratched, wallpaper torn in spots and the furniture beat up.

however the noise levels were still unacceptable and the room was just as bad as the previous one, this one had an annoying plumbling issue and in addition to the music and shouting we also had to listen to the sound of gushing water in the shower.

The bathroom floor & sink were dirty and clearly had not been wiped down;  there was trash inside the safe and also in the restroom.

Broken tiles, rust on the fixture- disappointing.

Rooms were okay nothing special, had to run shower for about 20 minutes before water got warm.

Dirty popcorn ceilings, rust around the bathtub drain and pieced together wallpaper where I counted at least 9 patched places.

The bathroom sink was slow to drain too. Was clean

I used to hate going into it with its unattractive washing amenities,

Basic room, it looked like they renovated the bathroom and then stopped.

Rooms have become terribly outdated & bathroom was rather disgusting.

While the Hotel is a little tired and dated it is clean, comfortable and in a great location.

The property was kept clean and tidy throughout and when we return to Las Vegas, will not hesitate to stay here again, especially as there are no resort fee extras!

Fantastic time, room was super clean, Justin at front desk was extremely friendly and helpful.

The room wasn’t as clean as it should be.

The room is clean, and the bed is comfortable.

The room and hotel was clean and in a fun location.

but they are clean and big enough for a family to relax and sleep.

All the good things about visiting Vegas and with no resort fee: covered ramp parking, nice clean room, walk out onto Fremont Street, reasonable food at the onsite Chicago Brewing Company (stay away from Noble Roman pizza), block away from White Castle.

The room was clean and good enough for sleeping.

In it's favor, the bed was comfortable and clean and the water pressure was good.

but it's home--prices are reasonable--people are real friendly--great restaurants--nice dealers--clean--good location--free parking for quests--special perks for gamblers--middle of the action on fremont--just love it. .

The cleanest things in the room were the sheets on the bed.

but if you want clean towels (ect) done straight away.

The main source of noise is the stage right next to the hotel where bands and DJs will be playing until anywhere between 1am and 3am depending on the day of the week.

The a/c was adjustable and not intrusively loud.

but never where we couldn't sleep for the loud music.

So I asked her again, what she would suggest me to do now and she told me I could either raise this issue with the third party which sold me the hotel room or pay for the room once more again.

Also, when I checked in they told me it was facing Fremont Street and would be loud.

the noise and bass of Fremont is impossible to ignore and nonstop all night, the lower the floor the worse it is.

If you plan on spending most of your time in the casinos and partying on Fremont, then this hotel will do the job and I paid $95 a night with tax for South Tower - can’t complain.

My sister was playing  a machine, when she cashed  out a man ran over and grabbed her ticked and stole her money.

but the vibrations of the bass from the music on Fremont St that went on until 3.00am and late revellers until 5.00am.

but wasn't too bad - would be too loud to be on the lower floors though.

The loud music from Fremont Street does not stop until 4 am per the Las Vegas noise ordinance.

however, was loud since it faced Fremont Street Experience.

On the Friday/Saturday, the music [noise] from the events center across Carson Avenue was horribly loud - it was like thunderstorm with the flashing lights from whatever was there.

Don't expect to sleep before 1am as the music plays till then.

Table Games: Did not play much they seemed friendly what I observed.

but the South Tower rooms face Fremont, so you can hear the live music LOUD and CLEAR until the wee hours.

Noise will be an issue if your room is in the north tower, less so if you're in the south tower.

Having read reviews about the noise from Fremont Street we were slightly concerned,

The concerts right nearby make it a very loud destination.

We were sandwiched between the front noise and back noise.

It quieted down around midnight so we were not kept awake..  there was a parade in memory of 9/11 that went straight down Freemont.

although you could hear some noise from Fremont Street, it wasn't enough to disturb our sleep.

Oldish type hotel right on Fremont Street, warning the rooms overlooking the street are noisy due to the music which doesn't stop until 3am.

I would suggest they upgrade their windows, as its so loud it's like being in the street.

If they ever invest in sound proofing and redecorate the rooms I might be tempted to stay again.

One word of caution, you can still hear the partying on Fremont Street from the South Tower and if you plan to sleep before 2:00 AM you better bring ear plugs.

The noise level from Fremont street is extremely noisy until at least 2:00 am.

The air conditioner made an awful sound every time it kicked on.

Only one issue with the room was the fan noise from the air conditioning, which was noticeable with the lack of outside noise.

Stayed for 8 days over thanksgiving, our room was on the 12th floor in the North tower, could hear the thump from the music

Our room was on the 15th floor, could hear the music til around 1am

The front desk clerks don't care about the noise.

I do know this is to do with LAs Vegas still allowing smoking on the Casino floor

Entire hotel smelled like cigarette smoke it was sickening.

As non smokers we found it smokey on the gaming floor and Brewpub,

but smoke from cigarette smoke still made it into my room.

but to stay in a smoking room (I am a non-smoker and requsted a non-smoking room) - which smelled like a musty ashtray.

The vent didn't work in the bathroom,  so the smoke alarm would go off when we took a shower.The window is screwed shut.

The hotel itself is a definitely dated and worn and cannot get rid of the years of cigarette smoke smell

Like other older hotels here, the many decades of people smoking have left a tobacco quality to the place that the newer places don't yet have.
