I liked that in the room there was all the equipment I was expecting such as aircon, TV screen, Dstv and services such as uncaptured Wi-Fi.

Small size pool available for cooling down after the blistering summer heat of the Northern Cape.

the air-condition in the room could not change the room temperature even adjusted accordingly.

The air conditioning is old, filled with dust and noisy!!

however the noise from he air conditioner made me very unhappy and even the previous time it was the same thing the air conditioner was so bad meaning all rooms if not most are in that state

The aircon though, requires a bit of getting used to as it is not necessarily the most discrete.

Aircon in our room needs replacing as it can get VERY hot in Kimberley and one needed the aircon.

It is winter at the moment so temperatures drop below freezing

Upon switching the aircon discharge a lot of noise.

At first I thought smoke perhaps it's air con filter or cleaning agents.

Enjoyed staying in the hotel, the hotel must invest in more on air conditioner, its noisy maybe get something of a bit silent air conditioner when its running considering that the place is a bit hotty.

on top of that,the air conditioner makes a lot of noise and it is very difficult to sleep with it turned on.

although the aircon is a bit nousy the room was nice and vool on a very hot day.

Improvement opportunities are : the decor is dated, ice buckets are not available in the rooms (the paper buckets at the ice machine are too small) and the aircon is a tad noisy (not serious though).

Aircon in room needs to be more powerful, due to weather.

The room (Suite) had a funny smell (wet carpet smell) that we established came from a Leaking air conditioner in the bedroom.

I am not particularly  a fan of spur restaurant I wish there was an option especially if one is tired and does not feel like going out.

Once in the room we found light bulbs missing and an air conditioner too loud to leave on at night.

They had the place cleaned from top to bottom the next morning and so thoroughly that when I returned and went to pack to move rooms, I could not smell a thing.

The hotel pool serves to cool one down after a long day on the road, and the in-house Spur is always good for a family dinner with children.

The fitness centre was wonderful and the pool a treat since it was very hot.

My kids enjoyed the swimming pool which is located in a very safe place by the Hotel reception.

Due to short stay, could use all the facilities available, indoor pool, gym etc.

The pool is especially refreshing considering the warm weather of the Northern Cape.

I was booked in a  big room with a balcony and a view to a swimming pool.

I did notice a swimming pool and gym for those energetic guests,

The pool was big and clean (didn't try it due to the cool mornings).

avoid the road side of the hotel as it is very noisy and you need to keep your windows closed, so no fresh air during the night as trucks roar past frequently.

I could hear almost 100% clearly the conversation of the person next door.

To install a noise proof in the rooms to avoid noise which sometimes caused by couples especially when they have brought children.

Cons - extremely noisy, apartment building right next door a major problem with music and partying till 2 am on a Sunday morning, no place to rest.

I arrived at the hotel at 2am on Sunday morning, having flew into Kimberley, drove to Postmasburg and then Boshof for 2 shows, when I went to check in, Somandla greeted me very awkwardly at the desk, I told him about my reservation and could then see the panic on this mans face, I watched him navigate his way around the computer and noticed this man was actually shaking,

The guest who was next to our room was on the phone for about 30 minutes, We could hear that he was on the phone.

It is a little close to a hospital, so there is more emergency vehicles than I would normally hear back home.

At 01h40 on the 17 May 2018 I was awoken by noisy guests in room 219.

Tried checking out just before 8 am to miss traffic.

I left the light on my rental car and within a few minutes the security guard informed reception, otherwise I would have woken up to a disaster.

Was allocated a room next to the lift and that got me a bit  worried and guess what, had a ggodnight sleep with no disturbing noise from the lifts.

Towels and emergency toiletries and refreshment tea and coffee was available in the room

Nice view and large rooms for standard bookings.

This quiet hotel has a 4 star look from the outside, a 5 star look inside, the rooms are just a 3 star and the breakfast is nothing more than 2 stars.

Overall this is not a bad property with good amenities and the rooms are comfortable enough.

Complimentary coffee/tea is available in the room.

So this is an apparent 4 star establishment, still charging 100% of their accommodation rates yet providing 50% of their advertised amenities and services. .

The room was small for 2 people, not enough hanging space, poky bathroom.

The attention to detail in the showers needs to be attended to a Lil deep cleaning needed.

The guest lavatories at the conferencing facilities  were dirty and there was no toilet paper, not something you would expect from a four star hotel.

but nothing that a bit of communication couldnt fix (air conditioning didn't work, and we asked for a razor which got sent to a different room!).

The suite was half the size of the standard room I moved to, and the suite had only a shower, so I downgraded as could not understand this.

He came and looked at the car, went to his boot and got a puncture repair kit and plugged the tyre and then took my car to the garage and had the spare pumped up and checked the pressure of the other tyres!!!

but lack amenities that a 4 star property aspire to have, No bottled water.

Bathroom was a bit old-fashioned and the taps were difficult to turn on and off.

On check in there were no towels, no toiletries and no water.

.the service was non-existent,  the rooms and hotel smells like smoke, the restaurant staff are unfriendly and under a lot of pressure due to lack of staff.

Our room had two double beds, a television, safe, shower and bath, as well as coffee/tea making facilities.

Housekeeping was also substandard, Bed was not properly made up, and old toothbrush from previous guests still in shower.

Grouting in bathroom needed work - both around the bath and on the floor at the doorjamb 

A room service tray had been left in the passage.

although I booked through Bookings.com a month previously, I noticed that we got the rack rate, the same as any walk-in customer.

Soon established that the bathroom  door in my room could not close, you have to lock it if you want it closed, there were no water and all the TV channels were full of "snow".

Kimberley water supply was cut off and I could not take a shower.

The toilet in the suite was not properly cleaned.

Comfortable, well-priced hotel overlooking  Kimberley's Big Hole.

Overall the hotel was clean neat and would have be comfy if it wasn’t for the noise.

After four days camping on the Orange river, we were in need of a comfortable beds, good showers and a little bit of luxury - the Protea Hotel in Kimberley was everything we hoped for.

The Executive room was clean, comfortable, functional and tastefully decorated with historic photos with explanations.First class service.

Me and my colleague received good service from the time we arrived, food was tasty, beds were comfortable and we could see The Big Hole through the windows in our rooms plus friendly staff.

Room was great, spacious, very comfortable king size bed and large bathroom with great shower (free WiFi also pretty fast).

Having said that, the room was comfortable, the hotel itself is lovely, and overlooks the Big Hole on the one side.

Comfortable room overlooking the Big Hole in a quiet part of tow.

The room is spacious, clean, comfy bed and clean linen.

The rooms were very comfortable and well serviced.

Stunning chandeliers and great view of the Big Hole.

We stopped for lunch at this hotel after a visit to the Big Hole museum.

Situated next to the 'Big Hole' and a very short walk to a restored mining town which is really cool and worth checking out, along with a few drinks at The Occidental :)

The thing that stood out for me here was the staff.

The hotel itself has a lot of great character and is well located for the Big Hole.

We were in room 322 overlooking the Big Hole.

The situation, right next to the Big Hole, couldn't have been better and there was an ample amount of parking.

This hotel has nice character and the history of the Big Hole is captured in photos which are displayed all over the hotel.

This hotel is on the the edge of the Big Hole where is.

Well-located next to the historical Big Hole.

For convenience to visit the Big Hole and old town is best located for walking access.

Turned out the room was a room that faced over the Big Hole which makes for a view of a 'slice of history' of South Africa.

Views of the Big Hole of Kimberley and decent seating area to have sundowners.

Food is really expensive 150-200 ZAR for breakfast!!!.

Even after we wanted to pay the bill without success, we mentioned we're coming back for dinner & would settle the bill without any issue.

The extras are a bit expensive, like drinks at the bar,

This is the only hotel we stayed in that did not include breakfast in the price.

The food was less than average and way over priced.

There are thousand cheaper hotels around for which i would not complain
