The real bonus with Hotel Gran Duca di York is its amazing location, just two or three short blocks from the Plazza del Duomo and equally close to the lively Via del Dante leading down to the Sforza Palace.

but very well located right next door to the Ambrosian Art Gallery (set in a great palace building) and within a couple of hundred yards of the Duomo, the Victor Emmanuel shopping centre and La Scala.

), there were also lots of shops to look into as you wandered to the city walls, and the Boromeo palace.

The hotel is in an old palace on Via Moneta, so named because of a Bank of Italy branch (with heavily-guarded currency distribution facility) next door.

First - no luggage rack in the room, second - no drawer space and third - the bathroom was small.

It made for a VERY small showering area if correctly deployed, and considerable water on the floor if deployed incorrectly.

Though the room was rather small and there was not a proper cupboard for clothes, this was compensated for by the general atmosphere in the hotel that made us at once feel at home.

I warned my mother repeatedly that the room would be very small.

Like any historical hotel in a city center, the room were on the small side,

but the shower in our room was so small it just wasn't functional.

The recent addition of a glass of wine or Prosecco to start your evening is very nice, as is bottled water in the lobby and all soft drinks in mini bar included in your stay.

The mini bar had soft drinks and water in it and again these were complimentary and restocked daily.

The quality of the food was exceptional and free soft drinks and waters in the room fridge was much appreciated.

The hotel offers free soft drinks and water, a welcome drink in the evening and its staff is polite and helpful.

Soft drinks from the minibar are free, I missed something to snack on after returning late from the theatre.

We had a lovely welcome drink and free access to soft drinks in the mini bar.

We were surprised that water and soft drinks were complimentary and 6pm drinks at the bar was very special.

We appreciated all the extras, including the free soft drinks and chocolate  in the room, free glass of wine each night we were there and the very nice buffet each morning.

The mini fridge in the room was kept stocked with free water and soft drinks and you could take more bottles of water and mini muffins from the reception area anytime.

Charing hotel, excellent location, easy walking to central Milan, thoughtfully provide free cold water and soft drinks, lovely air conditioned rooms which is a must at this time of year!

There was a complimentary glass of wine served on our first night and the soft drink mini bar in our room was free.

We were there for opera at La Scala, and it is a convenient walk.

The location is just a couple minutes walk from Cordusio Metro stop, and about a block further to the Duomo itself.

Via Dante, Sforzesco Castle and Sempione Park are only 10 minutes walk in the other direction from the Duomo so, all in all, we thought it was perfectly located for our needs as first time visitors to Milan.

I spent 3 nights at this hotel and found it to be charming and well located within easy walk of the Duomo.

Overall, we were pleased with our stay, with the following positives and negatives:
Positives:
+: The location was very convenient for the metro, walking to the Duomo, many restaurants, and other sites.

The hotel was a very short walk to Duomo and shopping areas.

The good parts: The hotel is in a great location for exploring Milan, and is a short walk to the cathedral, and the adjacent piazza and galleria.

The central location for walking to the Duomo, to the Last Supper, and more all added up with the friendly service and atmosphere to make this a really great place to stay.

This hotel is conveniently located, close to restaurants and a short walk to the main square.

The Location is indeed very good for walking to many places of interest and food.

Small hotel not only with atmospheric lobby with Roman columns and historic artwork on the walls

Thin walls, can hear people talking loudly in the room.

The immediate surrounding of the hotel are a bit stark with forbidding banks and blank walls

however hear the guests showering in the morning through the wall to the next room.

The only negative comment would be that the walls are thin and we were thankful to have older,quiet and early to bed neighbours.

The only drawback were the thin walls, one could hear the conversations and the people walking in the neigbouring rooms, which made sleep dependant how your neigbours were.

but very small (just like most European cities), and the window faces out to the wall and roof tiles of the adjacent building which we didn’t like but didn’t mind too much as we were outside most of the time.

As for the thin walls between rooms, they have only bothered me on one occasion when guests in the neighbouring room came home at one a.m. and (naturally) had things to chat about.

My husband and I stayed at Gran Duca di York for just one night and were charmed by its warm and picturesque ambiance, featuring Old World-inspired artwork and ceramic plates on the walls.

Only one gripe the walls of this room must have been wafer thin can hear people in other rooms quite clearly

Our only complaint would be the walls are a little thin and we had noise from surrounding rooms especially from the bathrooms either side.

Only downside is the walls are paper thin,

The only thing which annoying me a bit is the paper thin wall.

Yellow is the theme, and all the walls will be some sort of yellow.

The art on the walls of the lobby (I was told) were relics from an old church.

There might as well not even be walls between the rooms, at least then one might understand that they provide no (seriously none) noise reduction and not make any noise before 6 am or so.

The only negative is that the walls are very thin and noises, voices and other sounds come through pretty clearly.

This lovely hotel is ideally located just a few minutes away from the key attractions of Istanbul (Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace etc).

We were within short walking distance to the Grand Bazaar, the Spice Market, Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sofya, the Blue Mosque, the Roman Cistern and a sea of Restaurants and shops.

White House Hotel Istanbul is located in the heart of the historical peninsula and it is within few munites walking distance to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Archeology Museum, the Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar.

All major Sultanahmet area attractions like Hagia Sophia, Blue mosque, Bucolean Palace, Topkapi Palace, and Basilica Cistern are in about just 2 munites walk.

It was spacious and decorated as a chamber in a palace.

The room is very comfortable and the roof top has such a beautiful view of the Mosque.

Wonderful staff; great location close to the top attractions, the tram line, and nearby restaurants; impeccably clean and comfortable room (we loved the rose petal touch); and a very nice breakfast on the top floor with a view of the top of the Haggia Sofia.

The room was clean and cozy and i also appreciated the fact that the hotel was not too much big since you breathed a familiar atmosphere.

Amazing location (2 minutes away from every place you must go in Istanbul), super nice, kind and helpful staff, very clean rooms and common areas, nice typical breakfast.

The room was well equipped and clean, I must say the location is perfect!

The breakfast room is on the roof with a lovely view of Istanbul and the water.

The bathroom is also small, and the shower is enclosed in a small circular area like if you look a cruise ship voyage and had those showers.

A previous review mentioned the shower was too small - this person must’ve been the size of a small elephant as I am 6foot and quite hefty yet the shower was perfect.

However,single rooms are a little tight on space planning.The toilets are very small !

but we were disappointed to see that the room is hyper small, bathroom is also small and bed is double.

although the bathroom was a little too small.

On the down side the rooms were a bit small

Namely non-sound-proof walls, a small room with no view, occasional sewer smells, lack of storage space, and unsatisfactory breakfast selection (which, to be fair, is to be expected at a smaller hotel).

The room we had for 6 nights was small, (standard double) that we booked on Expedia.

The only draw back is the rooms are somewhat small (which is ok) and have little to no storage space (this is the biggest challenge- no counter space to store your belongings between days).

The rooms are small (think London) and the hotel has no other amenities like a pool or fitness center etc.

though the room was on the small side; albeit within minutes of the hagia sofia and blue mosque.

Magnificent hotel with a magical location to visit everything, we loved all the staff so responsive to all our requests, they made all the reservations for the restaurants and the entrances to the various tourist activities, exceptional breakfast, we recommend this magnificent hotel

I say that because the hotel was wonderful, especially the staff, who bent over backwards to make sure everything that we needed was done.

The food was delicious, the place was super clean, and the owner was a true host that made me feel he cared about me and my safety.

They were polite and helpful, especially with the stroller, answering our questions, organizing the cruise and pick up from and to the airport.

The hotel staff go above and beyond for their guests and make them feel like family.

Special mentions to Mr Mert  for his lovely welcome (Turkish delight and fizz) and helpful advice.
