Would highly recommend the Il Basilica restaurant which could be included in 3 nights promotional package.

The toilet cistern was leaking (fortunately clean water) and a puddle of this water formed.

What we also liked was that the meals in the Rose Garden always came with fresh vegetables and a good selection of fruit if you wanted it.

We attended the Christmas Eve Gala Dinner in the Rose Garden restaurant which was well worth the effort in dressing up.

While there are plenty of options outside the hotel as well, there are adequate and varied choices for lunch and dinner within the hotel if one wishes to opt for that; having tried all of them, I can recommend most of them (Blue Lagoon, Rose Garden, Avista, Cliff Bar)

The Rose Garden Restaurant provided delicious evening meals with gorgeous deserts!!

Although a big hotel, the garden surrounding it was divided into sections so it felt like you always could find a private spot to hang around the pool area.

Sitting out in the garden enjoying sea views at breakfast or sipping cocktails in the evening watching the sunset are experiences we will never forget.

We ate in the Rose Garden and the food was excellent.

Enjoying cocktails in the garden while listening to live jazz piano was absolutely lovely.

Funchal itself very attractive with lots of gardens and green spaces.

Excellent as always in all respects except the limited choice of dishes for the Rose Garden restaurant main course when one of our party is predominantly vegetarian and doesn’t eat fish.

We ate two nights in the Rose Garden and the meals were delicious and excellent value for the quality.

The hotel gardens are beautiful and the views of the bay are fantastic.

The evening meal was a set menu at the rose garden.

We had dinner one night in The Rose Garden Restaurant.

The surroundings are idyllic, with beautiful gardens.

Or try lunch in the gardens at Avista or the gardens outside Cliff Bar.

As regards the produce, I echo other reviewers’ comments about poor allergy information & the presence of cross-contamination.

Only minus was very poor artists during evenings at Hotels Bar. ✨✨✨✨✨

Also, we were  twice charged for drinks we never received to the service being so poor.

The food quality was poor and the service was sadly lacking the knowledge of what was being provided!!

Very disappointed by the poor selection of fruit at breakfast, no strawberries, raspberries or blueberries.

Two meals in the Rose garden were very poor indeed eg rabbit stew which was all bones and just a teaspoonful of meat.

On two nights the main course was served tepid and the recourse was to be offered a glass of Madeira (a bit like your neighbourhood restaurant might do) One particular waiter - the only poor staff member we met - said 'it happens' Steak never appeared except as an option at the Xmas buffet.

The whole 5* ambience of The Cliff Bay is ruined by a restaurant which offers poor choices at dinner time and seems incapable of serving "hot food hot" at either breakfast or dinner.

although it is basically as good as it was the evening meals in the Rose Garden restaurant were quite poor.

but a very dissapointing a-la-carte with poor choices and meagre portions.

but shockingly poor afternoon tea for a 5 star hotel

but what little we heard of the later evening entertainment seemed quite poor but perhaps just a matter of taste.

Unfortunately our dinner on the last day of our holiday was dreadful 
The service was poor and the food was over salted and cold 
Alfredo the waiter was so embarrassed at what was happening that he kept giving us more bread!

too much emphasis on artistry and not enough emphasis on food - I think Michelin has lost it's way when awarding stars and "Il Gallo d'Oro" was yet another example of poor value for money.

They offer a 3 course meal each evening of very poor quality and poorly presented.

The buffet, while plentiful, was also we felt not worth the cost, and we found the bistro food, while cheaper, extremely poor.

The one, fairly large, drawback is the poor staffing of the front desk.

Lovely hotel, food and people,   The breakfasts in Il Gallo d’Oro were the best and whoever makes the omelettes deserves a medal!

We stayed over christmas where we had a 5 course meal for christmas eve and took advantages of the indoor/outdoor pool, both by the pool and down a floor by the other restaurant.

Food excellent; Christmas Eve Gala Dinner was superb.

The views from our room over the Bay of Funchal were gorgeous.

We were upgraded to  a Superior Funchal Bay view room which was great and would recommend it to anyone.

There are splendid sea views and some rooms offer a view over Funchal bay.

The hotel was excellent as always - sea view/Funchal view room, the food, the hospitality all first class.

As a returning guest, I was given an upgrade (for a supplement) from a standard sea view room to one with sea AND harbour view.

We stayed in a sea view room on the 4th floor and were really pleased with it.

On this trip we had a “Funchal View” room 403 which was comfortable, spacious and had a large balcony/ terrace with excellent views.

Our room had breathtaking views out to sea, it was large and well-appointed.

The staff sent us to breakfast and had us use  the amenities until our rooms were ready,  We were upgraded to beautiful ocean view rooms that had the most amazing views.

Stayed 9 nights in the Cliff Bay, in an oceanview room.

The garden and the pool areas are amazing, as is the view from the balcony, definitely get a front seaview room, it is worth every penny!

We stayed in room 703 overlooking Funchal and the bay, what a choice, sunshine in the morning, ocean views and the bright lights of Funchal in the evening.

The view from our room 843 had breath-taking views of the ocean and coast line.

We had a bay view room, and we’re lucky enough to have corner room, giving panoramic views from the marina and right across the coastline.

We were a family of four, (two teenage kids) and stayed in the family room overlooking the ocean with two huge king sized beds, arguably the most comfortable hotel bed I’ve even slept in.

First class service and facilities, with a fine room overlooking Funchal Bay.

Rooms looking out to the town and harbour have the morning sun rise while the sea view rooms get the sun from late morning.

The Funchal Bay view rooms on the higher floors are breathtaking.

Our visit to the spa was so good that we made a second appointment for more treatments.

The services such as pools and spa are superb and the housekeeping is outstanding.

The choices in terms of pools, jacuzzis, and spa is beyond acceptable and very pleasant.

Large spa and another large pool which is partly indoors and partly out.

Breakfast is superb, good spa for massages.

The spa, the spa pool and the sea water pool at the edge of the sea were really a bonus.

Spa was fabulous, excellent facial and massage.

There is also a spa pool higher up which is probably nicer, with better seating and layout.

Pros: location, service, quality of food, library, lounges, beautiful views, saunas, jacuzzis, ocean access to swim.

If wanting restaurants or spa treatments, best to book in advance as these are popular services.

It has an amazing view towards the ocean as well as towards the mountain/city center.

We stayed there from Dec 27 till Jan 3 in one of their ocean suites and it was so so good.

Large comfortable rooms, great views to sea and towards Funchal.

We took a last minute 5 night break at this hotel, only wish it had been longer, beautiful room (superior with sea view) with a fantastic view, very clean as you would expect (but do not always get) with a 5 star hotel.

Unlike many of the other hotels the gym enjoys beautiful sunny views rather than being shut away in dark basements.

We asked at the time if we could see a room with a sea view.

The room was a side sea view and was large, clean and comfortable.

It was easy to book the room on its website at very economical rates.

The room is very comfortable and the roof top has such a beautiful view of the Mosque.

Wonderful staff; great location close to the top attractions, the tram line, and nearby restaurants; impeccably clean and comfortable room (we loved the rose petal touch); and a very nice breakfast on the top floor with a view of the top of the Haggia Sofia.

The room was clean and cozy and i also appreciated the fact that the hotel was not too much big since you breathed a familiar atmosphere.

Amazing location (2 minutes away from every place you must go in Istanbul), super nice, kind and helpful staff, very clean rooms and common areas, nice typical breakfast.

The room was well equipped and clean, I must say the location is perfect!

The breakfast room is on the roof with a lovely view of Istanbul and the water.

The bathroom is also small, and the shower is enclosed in a small circular area like if you look a cruise ship voyage and had those showers.

A previous review mentioned the shower was too small - this person must’ve been the size of a small elephant as I am 6foot and quite hefty yet the shower was perfect.

However,single rooms are a little tight on space planning.The toilets are very small !

but we were disappointed to see that the room is hyper small, bathroom is also small and bed is double.

although the bathroom was a little too small.

On the down side the rooms were a bit small

Namely non-sound-proof walls, a small room with no view, occasional sewer smells, lack of storage space, and unsatisfactory breakfast selection (which, to be fair, is to be expected at a smaller hotel).

The room we had for 6 nights was small, (standard double) that we booked on Expedia.

The only draw back is the rooms are somewhat small (which is ok) and have little to no storage space (this is the biggest challenge- no counter space to store your belongings between days).

The rooms are small (think London) and the hotel has no other amenities like a pool or fitness center etc.

though the room was on the small side; albeit within minutes of the hagia sofia and blue mosque.

The hotel is small and I think just has 14 rooms.

From day one the Service and Staff have been Excellent.

The staff are super friendly, helpful, and kind.

I found a very qualified and cordial staff.

But the main strength of this hotel lies in its people: we felt very warmly welcomed and taken care of thanks to Mert, Halli and Rahman!

Magnificent hotel with a magical location to visit everything, we loved all the staff so responsive to all our requests, they made all the reservations for the restaurants and the entrances to the various tourist activities, exceptional breakfast, we recommend this magnificent hotel

I say that because the hotel was wonderful, especially the staff, who bent over backwards to make sure everything that we needed was done.

The food was delicious, the place was super clean, and the owner was a true host that made me feel he cared about me and my safety.

They were polite and helpful, especially with the stroller, answering our questions, organizing the cruise and pick up from and to the airport.

The hotel staff go above and beyond for their guests and make them feel like family.

Special mentions to Mr Mert  for his lovely welcome (Turkish delight and fizz) and helpful advice.

The White House hotel is a very special and lovely experience!

A really nice hotel with the best service we ever experienced.

It was a sweet experience and the best location.

The staff has that Turkish hospitality - very professional and warm at the same time.

We made sure to watch sunset while having our delicious apple tea every night Best of all, their staff were top-notch in hospitality and were quick to help us with anything we needed including airport transportation and directions.

It also provides consistent boutique hospitality.

This hotel is best gem in Istanbul and you must have this experience too.
