Our coach was comfortable and always clean.

The hotel is in good order , rooms are clean and all the public areas .Off street car parking is available .

Stayed here for a weekend break in Scarborough, we loved it, rooms were large, comfortable and clean.

Had a voucher bought as a present for the afternoon tea, I have to say it was beautiful, the staff were so helpful, pleasant and friendly, I can highly recommend, the hotel was clean and all the Covid requirements were in place, hand gel, masks etc

We had a lovely time in this excellent hotel,  we had room 207, it was a very nice comfortable room, the bed was comfortable and the room was spacious and clean.

Me and my wife stayed here Friday 10th September 21 and could not fault this hotel,  room was spotless, staff really pleasant, good parking, breakfast was really nice

Everything that Whitbread isn't traditional, caring, customer friendly and above all - there when you need it!

Booking in was very friendly and the rules were explained for the hotel and parking when available you can purchase a voucher to park in the street at the side of the hotel and in our case our blue badge was sufficient to park all day without charge.

All the staff we encountered were very friendly, quick, efficient and helpful.

Firstly - our Shearings driver and coach were excellent, driver very friendly, knowledgable and always well presented.

This is our second visit dog friendly a park just a few minutes walk and the sea front great breakfast as much as you want friendly staff car parking nice and clean a lift to all floors we would stay again

Went on a 4 day break for 2 friends special birthdays, the staff were brilliant, couldn't of been more helpful and friendly, food lovely with plenty of choice.

The staff were lovely, very friendly, especially Rachael on the desk, the gentleman who served us at dinner and lady who served our breakfast (sorry, I can't remember their names).

On the Sunday evening the dining staff excelled themselves again as they had a birthday card and gifts set out on the table for my birthday too.

Great service from the restaurant manager Eddie, who found us a different table when friends joined us midweek for a short stay.

Had everything we wanted, clean rooms, hot water, friendly staff and food was fine for what we paid.

The hotel is very well organized and very friendly.We were given our table number when we arrived and that was it for the 5 days.The meals were lovely.There was always plenty and there was always a good selection at dinner time with good helpings.The staff in the restaurant are very good.They work very hard and are very friendly and helpful.

The room was excellent , the food was excellent and the staff were excellent.The restaurant manager was brilliant , attending to each guest like they were royalty.

The dining staff were very polite and attentive with the offer of kippers or poached eggs accommodated without any fuss or delay.

The service provided by all the staff in the dining room, coupled with the presentation of every course, absolutely superb.

Reception and dining areas all very nice, especially the bar in a bright room.

Restaurant staff were very attentive with fast service (our waiter Paul was so on the ball).

The room was twin bedded, generously provided with accessories for what is a mid range hotel in the Coast and Country group - formerly Shearings/ Wallace Arnold.

Our room was lovely and big (we upgraded to a Superior double).

As we and a few other guests had dogs   we all eat separately   not in dining room.

Communal areas are beautiful in particular the conservatory bar, rooms (certainly our room) could do with a bit of love and updating

Daily tidy up in rooms and communal,areas spacious and well looked after.

This let the room down slightly as otherwise very good.

Apart from an extended lunch stop in Harrogate (where we will be going back to as it was fabulous and home to the best Betty's tea room in my opinion) we finally arrived in Scarborough at the hotel at 4.30.

We stayed in room 305 and had a great couple of nights!

Room was perfect (premier inn plus with a bit more character ).

My sister and I stayed in Rooms 102 and 103 (Debbie and Gary).

I do feel that when two rooms have been booked they should be of simular size we had a small room where as my sisters room was a lot larger than ours also their room had bottled water and more choice of hot drinks.

but enjoyed it so much we extended it by 2 nights to come back Sunday, which for single room cost £275.

The first evening there was a singer in the lounge which was a pleasant surprise.

Entertainment,decent bar and snacks available most of the time.

On Tues, the entertainer was Paul Tilley.

We were pleasantly surprised that there was entertainment at this time of the year and we had the most wonderful evening being entertained by Paul Tilley, a vocalist and guitarist.

There  was entertainment on 2 nights of our stay and both singers were very good.

Enjoyed the acts on a night, Nik and another male singer were very good.

but we did) we really enjoyed ourselves, even the entertainment with a live singer on sat night was good.

There was entertainment in the lounge and the lady "sunny" behind the bar was a credit to the hotel  with her cheery and friendly service.

We watched the entertainment which was on three nights during our stay, the best one by far was on the Tuesday, Paul Tilly he is excellent on his guitar and a very good singer.

Entertainment on two of the 3 nights was outstanding.just a 2 minute walk to the esplanade with the most spectacular views of beautiful Scarborough.

Live entertainment (8:30-10pm) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Stayed here for 4 nights in February.we stayed in room201which was very nice.food was ok drink good choice of wine and beer.entermainment very night very good won bingo on 2nights great.staff very good many thanks.also company very good .stay was with National bus tours

Food was excellent and the entertainment was good too.

Overall a fantastic midweek break with great staff, enjoyable food and very good evening entertainment.

but the window above the bath was in a disgusting condition (very difficult to get to without proper equipment) and there was a big brown stain on the bedroom ceiling in our room 117.

There was no musty smell that I often encounter in other seaside hotels.

The underside of the toilet was disgusting and did not flush properly.

The bed was really uncomfortable, the bathroom had black mould all round the shower; the shower curtain didn’t stop the water leaking out of shower (and was a really really small shower space, impossible to bend while in there) toilet might of leaked too.

The room had obviously been sanitised judging by the smell of bleach which was reassuring.

There was nothing 'deep cleaned' about this hotel and I wish I had brought my own bleach!

I've just come back from a weekend there and I have to say the room was filthy.

We went down for evening meal which was a huge let down as all the evening meals were disgusting, the breakfast was the best meal of the day.

On the way home, the coach was cramped and toilet stank.. again..

My sister and I have just stayed at this hotel with national holidays, we had a fantastic time and are hoping to return .we requested a room near the lift and we were given room 115 which was ideal because I have breathing problems and can't walk very far, the hotel also took this into account when allocating our table in the dining room and seated us near the door.

Chairs in rooms could be a tad comfier they are dining room chairs not arm chairs which is a shame as a sewer I would have liked to see by the window in an afternoon

room was very clean only problem was a nasty smell when you let the bath water out.

It is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING that there was just one member of staff on duty.

When nothing happened we spoke to another receptionist who came up to our room, she agreed there was a background odour that affected her throat.

but they would see if they could get rid of the smell.

their was a little bit of mold around the edges in the bathroom around toilet and bath.

Windows so dirty that you could write MUCK on them, drain smells in the bathroom.

The single supplement for a single "cupboard" was a disgrace,the bathroom minute,and smelt of sewers,the blanket on the bed needed throwing out.Hotel refurbed from the bothom upwards ,only didnt reach the bedrooms.Mealtimes were a bit chaotic,but food wasnt bad.Poor value for money.Wake up Shearings.

but nothing outstanding staffs were very good and made every effort to ensure we had a nice evening.

They clearly care about ensuring their guests have a great stay.

Now reasons why you should stay there………..great staff,helpful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome and fit around your requests.

Inside, the bar and reception areas were lovely, the staff were helpful and smily.

The receptionist who greeted us was absolutely lovely.

Tracey dealt with our booking over the telephone and was extremely helpful, courteous, polite and professional.

No soundproofing in my room whatsoever and yes I had closed the window.

Tissue paper from the previous guest wedged in to the window to stop it rattling, cheap extension lead in the room as there were not enough sockets.

Scruffy chipped paintwork ,tired looking wall paper, very basic furniture and just about enough room between the bed and dressing table to get to the window to open /close curtains.

From stained worktops (which rubbed off) to broken coat hangers, to the dirty windows, to thick dust and the mouldy shower!!

The shower curtain didn’t stop the water going out onto the floor.

4 stars due to unsafe windows in family room and the extra cost for parking which I don’t think was mentioned on the website as I heard others were not aware of this either so it wasn’t just me!

-Room - original sash windows would ideally be replaced with double glazed windows to reduce traffic noise and to reduce heat loss.

but north facing with a small window which was partly blocked by the wardrobe making the room very dark - not at all what we expected,

My husband & I stayed on the third floor of this hotel in July 2019.The room was so warm we couldn't sleep there was just a small window which didn't let much air in.We did ask for a fan which was a little better.Breakfast was very nice

but not sure if we had one (Room 120)  there were huge bay windows but no blinds or net curtains so had to pull the curtains all day or hide behind the wardrobe doors to get changed, or go in the bathroom !

but chilly,this was because there were draughts coming through around the windows.

but was soon rectified by opening bathroom window and turning radiators off.

but the bathroom was a let down it badly needs to be refurbished .the door squeaks which woke each other up when going the loo at night.the Windows are terrible the tiles need a dam good clean.

The windows in the room need badly updating we were kept awake on our last night as there was a strong wind outside and the Windows rattled all night.

Only one thing spoilt our trip, the window s let the wind in, even when shut,

Good nights sleep had as soo little outside noise even with the window open.

The radiators were rusty , paint was hanging off the woodwork , the sealant was mouldy around the bath and the shower pulsated, switching from cool to warm as it throbbed…what a nightmare.

The bathroom was a little on the small side

The odd extra toiletry would have been welcome

and i learned to manage the shower without any problems.

The main problem with the bathroom was the water pressure which was so slow it made getting a shower very difficult

The shower room was very outdated and the shower wasn't great.

Our room number 223 smelt of urine and at 9.30  we found out why - the toilet was leaking .

The view from the room speaks for itself, we had to ask for toilet paper twice before it arrived at the room and the bar and restaurant service was dreadful.

Downside is that our room was small and old fashioned eg poor shower and not great internet.

Only required  SORRY  after a fantastic weekend of crafting lovely staff & food my room check out time 10.30 i put my bags into car early to return after breakfast to use bathroom facilities to find room being turned around for other guests, I STILL HAD MY KEY and had not booked out by handing it in time 09.06 i aked to see the owner  receiving negative response they only clean when youve left!

Towels- I would advise that you take your own bath towel as the towel supplied was definitely not suitable for drying after showering.

The bed was fairly hard, the bathroom, room 213, was pretty small and the bath/shower could be difficult for someone who has mobility issues.

but the shower was awful as we hardly had any water pressure and it made it difficult to have a good shower.

Slightly less good are the following in my opinion: bath towels far too small and the hand towels are brown and the type you would expect to find in your kitchen: beds very soft which I’m sure is lovely for some people

As well as a visit from Santa 🎅 

The rooms are super clean and comfortable with AMAZING views 👌 

I urge anyone that is looking for a little break in Scarborough, book in at The Red Lea.

Last week we had a four night stay at the Red Lea, our room was very clean, spacious and had a lovely sea view.

Spacious, super-clean room, comfortable bed, I wanted to take those pillows home!!!

The room was very clean and the bed really comfy.

The staff are all wonderful, the hotel is very clean and my bed was comfortable.

This hotel is fantastic, It is super clean, friendly and accommodating, all staff seem to care about all elements of the stay of their guests.

The bathroom had a bath with a shower sink and toilet and again was spotless.

Just back from a lovely couple of days , lovely clean hotel at the end of the south beach , bang on the front , beautiful views at your doorstep .
