Although when on the balcony you can hear the traffic and planes once you close the doors the room is completely sound proof.

The room looked untidy with some hairspray stains on the bathroom door and sticky surfaces.

We were there several days and could never determine why we constantly heard slamming doors.

but extremely noisy… we could hear, the cars, the planes and people next door.

The railings, the elevator, the doors and rooms.

but once evening came or when the balcony doors were shut, we heard nothing.

We had a harbor-view room, which meant a teeny balcony with a low partition from the room next door - when our neighbor also came out on his balcony, we were inches apart and had a lively conversation!

Rooms do get noisy if rowdy guests go up and down corridors due to Poor door Insulation.

There was a lot of noise from the floor above and the banging of doors through the night echoed throughout the hotel.

The only negative was the state of the bathroom which could be cleaner as far as it concerns the walls of the douche and the bathroom and the door which were dirty.

but if you only want a drink you can’t sit with a sea view, you have to sit in a lounge area looking at the building next door.

Bathroom a bit small, difficult to open door and get in / out, especially with someone else inside.

However, what decreased the quality of our stay was the fact that some so called athletes, a Greek football team in particular, was also staying there.They were shouting and banging doors all night long.

Door to bathroom/toilet was placed in awkward position such that you will need to move to the shower end in order to close/open the door.

Additionally the elevator was right outside the door.

but the next day we had the same problem to open the door.

In order to use the toilet, we had to close the door and squeeze into the corner.

This year, unfortunately we have had a small room in the annex of the hotel, no balcony and quite hot, at a low floor.

Our double room was small and was a strange shape it had a small balcony with  table and chairs and lovely views of the harbour.

We had a boutique room with veranda overlooking the port,marina and fortress,although the room a little small it still offered all the usual extras,mini fridge robes etc.

I just mentioned that I thought the room was a little small my wife & I then went out for a drink. On our return the phone rang in our room it was Spiros who said " you are not happy with your room Sir?"

The breakfast was exceptional - self serve style with a wonderful choice of hot and cold items .We had a light bite at Vetri outside overlooking the pool and waterfall - both the food and service were great .What more to say ?

Staff were friendly and helpful, pool was spacious, and breakfast was plentiful.

Breakfast buffet had the usual selection of fruit, cereal, hot and cold foods.

The breakfast is great with lots of options.

Our bed was two singles pushed together and the rooms quite small so didn’t feel like a 5 star hotel.

The rooms are very small, the carpet is filthy, the shower curtain is yellowish at the bottom, it hasn’t been changed in a long time, 
and the room has an odor.

For a five star hotel, rooms are rather small, the TV is quite small and the WC chain didn't work propperly.

The rooms are small - I was traveling solo so this was fine, would have been cramped for two.

We really enjoyed our stay except for the fact that the room very small for 3 people.

The first room 636 was really small with barely any clearance to walk and no balcony.

The rooms are small, carpet was stained in the two rooms we had.

I have never seen a room this small even in a 3-Star hotel.

The effect of this was that we couldn't have the door open at all due to the traffic noise and exhaust fumes.

Bedroom: Pool side bedroom (because another review complained about street side noise) was smelly (like someone smoked there before - reminded me cheap US motel) and pretty crumbed with the queens bed and nice size closet (which smelled like wet bathing suits :-) )

It smelled like cigarettes covered up by incense.

The carpets were filthy and the room was not a twin room as per our multiple requests (when booking, and when arriving to confirm).

These establishments can be identified by the lack of ashtrays on the tables.

however there are some big flaws with the hotel: 

Unfortunately the bed was very lumpy, the sheets kept coming off and the linen didn't smell fresh thus have knocked off one star for that.

The room we were staying in had a smokey smell to it.

A bottled water,  stale food in a plate, small double bed and a small balcony with a pool view of people swimming.

Oh - lots of people smoke in Crete generally I found and so the hotel was no exception.

Spa facilities were really nothing much more than a basic gym and a somewhat smelly steamroom.

although unfortunately there were some nasty stains on the carpet in room 635.

Also the front desk did not deal very well with an incident involving a faulty smoke alarm and did not provide explanation or apology for being woken in the middle of the night to check alarm.

The pool area was lovely, the pool is a fresh water pool so there's no nasty chlorine smell.

One bad note - the carpeting in the lobby hallway (en route to the rooms) is filthy!

We selected this hotel first as it was the only 5 stars hotel in Heraklion offering smoking rooms; our choice was right in all aspects.

However, this hotel made quite an impression -- the room was very luxurious and the buffet breakfast was exceptional.

Breakfast was amazing: the food was magnificent!

The hotel buffet breakfast was simply outstanding with the most delicious baked goods, local menu items as well as a variety of yogurts, fresh fruit and toppings.

The breakfast (included in room price) had wonderful options and local pastries.

and of course that famous breakfast buffet.

The breakfast offered a HUGE selection of very good food.

Well located,  generous size rooms, roof-top pool & bar and one of the best regional breakfasts we have had in Greece - a seriously good breakfast!

Very nice buffet breakfast, a gym and a rooftop lap pool and friendly staff.

When we asked for coffee, we were each given individual stainless steel coffee carafes so we could pour our own refills. The breakfast itself was the most lavish of any of the great breakfasts we experienced in Athens and three islands (and in Greece that's saying something! )

Now the breakfast, was MARVELOUS as was the staff.

In particular Irene’s joyous greeting and enthusiastic service every morning started my day with a wide smile and the breakfast buffet is the best I’ve encountered in 20+ years of luxury travel with its local delicacies and fresh ingredients.

We stayed 3 nights at the GDM Megaron.Very central location on the Venetian Port and close to the Heraklion Town Centre.What a great hotel-impressive rooms and public spaces.Our room (Junior Suite)overlooked the Port.The Bed was super comfortable.Very relaxing.Don’t miss (a)the daily breakfast which is outstanding and (b) the 5th Bar Restaurant.Lovely views over the Port at night.Plus fantastic quality Cretan dishes like Feta Saganaki.Not to be missed.

Breakfast is WOW, fantastic room with a view to the Venetian Port, rooftop pool and a great central location.

The buffet breakfast was very good and their is a bar conveniently located in the lobby.

And the breakfast is good
But sadly, the pros stop there!

- Pickup service from the Port wasn't great and a little expensive.

Stayed in room 424 overlooking the harbour as previously.Hotel staff are all so professional and obliging which comes across as really genuine.Room facilties excellent along with the breakfast offering.

The location, the breakfast, and the staff were all top notch.

The facilities were superb and the breakfast scrumptious all round 5 Star stay.

Equipped by the staff with a big box with my favorite grisinis and 2 bananas, I did not miss the breakfast (which starts at 7 a.m.).

In the heart of Heraklion, this historical hotel was so clean, so centrally located, breakfast buffet was amazing, every single staff SO friendly and helpful!!

Breakfast every morning was amazing with plenty choices of mediterranean food and excellent service.

The rooftop pool is very small with so strange working hours 10-19h.

2 Water pools was tiny for kids and awkward hours from 11-7. Clean.

(-) Charge of 3.3€ for water in dinner, coffee is poor, pools are small, noise from the airport, doesn't suite for vacation with small children.

There are two small pools and a spa with daily  specials which are posted in the elevators.

both pools are very small (10-15 meters long the most).

however the pools are small and not very deep..

The pools are small and cold, we didn't use them much.

The only down side is a lack of view (the hotel is situated in the city center, and a lot of rooms just face people's houses and clothing lines) and the fact that the pool is very small.

Things that could be improved - size and quality of pools - the pools are very small - big enough for one person and there seemed to be limited filtering so they looked dirty.

The snacks available throughout the day are great and plentiful, as are the drinks.

We both ordered the sweet pancakes which was almost identical to the pancakes you get from the main buffet restaurant!

The a la carte dining was very good and offered delicious dishes that catered for us.

This was a lovely touch and so convenient for us as we were close to the bar, main pool, beach and taverna where we could have breakfast each day.

The hotel was absolutely 10/10,clean,very high standard.staff were very friendly, attentive, always had a smile.on site there was 5 restaurants,and can honestly say food was 10/10 from breakfast,lunch dinner and snacks in-between I never had a bad meal all food was fresh and well cooked a huge choice for all tastes.

If you make the trip into Heriklion and you should it's beautiful (€1.80 bus fare outside the gate and turn right to bus stop) make sure you head to Apiri Restaurant, it's modern Greek food and utterly delicious!

I wouldn’t really class it as 5* food for breakfast either in Cafe Rinela or the Taverna.

Service was good ,and food was ok. Buffet breakfast and lunch was good.

Breakfast in the taverna was nice, less busy than the main restaurant.

The facilities are first class, the rooms clean, stylish and comfortable and the food is plentiful, varied and delicious.

Furthermore I would like to say a big Thank you to the staff of the bars that was always very willing to serve us and advise us about the delicious cocktails.

The club sandwiches were delicious though!

We only managed to book two of the restaurants which was the taverna and the Italian which was really lovely and the food was delicious!

Also we cannot forget the warm welcome of the staff , with the kind and enlightening check in and the delicious welcome drinks.

but you had to do this through the app or you could ask at reception between certain times 
- restaurants were delicious
- beach is right at the hotel with free sun beds if available 
- arcade for children or for adults if you’re like me and my husband (big children) 

We wanted to thank the staff at Mitsis Rinela for giving us the best honeymoon we could have ever wished for, we relaxed, had fun and we’re treated like a king and queen!

We were also served a lavish breakfast delivered to our room the following morning.

- The lunch places (BBQ, Pizza place and the creperie) do some yummy options for lunch + snacks, and definitely worth a visit.

The buffet restaurant and a la carte are fantastic and have something for everyone.

The pizza/bbq station is a great add to save you getting changed to go to the buffet.

Food/Drinks: This is the main area the hotel lacks in - the main restaurant is really quite poor, the selection is very small and wasn’t great.

The beach bar staff are way friendlier and actually smile 
*The pool is so deep with only a small shallow area so unless you want to tread water all day you’ll find most people sit on the side 
*buffet dinner/breakfast — poor quality, options limited, same daily!

but we couldn't have stayed longer than a week because of the poor quality of the food.

The hotel rooms are actually beautiful we had a swim up room with a secret bar (it was that secret we saw the waitress once in 48hours ) so we had to venture off to the main pool where most of the sunbeds were taken and the service was poor so you were stood waiting at the pool bar .

The service at the main bar in the evening was particularly poor unless you were seated around 8pm.

The a la carte Greek -  I have never seen such poor class meals.

For the money paid I would never come back here because the shockingly poor drink service, whether its alcohol, water, soft drinks.

The room we had there at Mitsis Royal Mare Thalasso was very poor to be honest.

although there were a few poor meals - for instance in the ‘a la carte’ restaurant where slabs of pork loin, greasy pitta breads and cold aubergine were unpalatable.

Long queues, unclean areas, sluggish service, poor food quality, and a lapse in customer focus diminish the overall prestige of Mitsis Rinela Beach Resort & Spa in Crete.

Buffet style breakfast which provides poor quality food sadly.

Totally disgusted by this hotel and here is why:

- food is very poor
- some of the hotel has a good spec,

This again is pretty poor for a five-star hotel, I don’t think ive even been to a four star hotel before that doesn’t have a gym….

First evening meal in main restaurant - poor choice, warm white wine.

Not 5 star in my opinion

- Service in the Asian restaurant and night time bar was poor.

Wait until 8.30pm the evening before check out to find out if I had got my request approved for the following morning - poor management.

I ended up going through the effort of getting a plate from the waffle stand and taking it to the buffet one day, as i wanted to take some dessert away and eat it at the beach.. (which I think is a reasonable thing to want to do on holiday)..I hid this on the way out as I knew I would be stopped.. my mum was stopped one day for taking one croissant out with her in her hands.. very very poor there.

- The all inclusive buffet had tonnes of choice and really tasty food, even at breakfast which can be quite repetitive usually.

Loud noises from above and below of furniture being dragged across the floors) The Main Restaurant is excellent, tasty, plentiful and lots to choose from.

POSITIVES
- wonderfully friendly and helpful staff and local people who could not do enough for you 
- clean surroundings 
- lots of bar/snack areas for variety
- the most delicious food in the buffet restaurant, catering for all tastes 
- really comfortable bed and pillows
- well equipped room with daily housekeeping.

although it was delicious, it took a while for the food to come out.

but we used the buffet as it was easier with our boy who's a bit picky.

There was plenty of choice for food in the buffet and snack bars, actually the best choice in a hotel I have ever had.

It is a nice clean hotel with great food choices at the buffet restaurant, everyone will find something they like.

The buffet with different and fresh food was really nice supprise.

Whilst the buffet was great having fresh food and different food every day the Greek restaurant was very average.
