The beds, linen and chairs are uncomfortable, old and need replacing!

An uncomfortable slat bed, never experienced in a motel before, only blue top milk available, and not cheap for what is an older style motel.

Once in room , it was dark, cold, and definitely not what pictures portrayed, no proper heater, no electric blankets in winter, only water available was from bathroom tap.

The curtains were stained, the bathroom has a build up of scum in the grouting, filthy toilet tank cover, dust in the filter and heater system.

but that besides, the room being tired the TV didn’t work, the extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work.

Poorly maintained in the outside of the unit with weeds in the garden.

The bathroom heater was broken, the heated towel rail was not fully functional and the bed was old and extremely soft and sloped towards the floor on one side.

We looked out to other rooms and the air conditioning unit which was loud.

Rooms have no air conditioning so there is a portable fan in the room, no style to the bedrooms and dated.

but after paying $1200+ for 3 nights 1 room here’s my honest review:

The bad:
No air con unit just an old $40 fan on a stand 
Room smelt really bad
Red wine stains on floor
Small old school TV with no digital channels
Very basic free breakfast where the coffee was so weak it didn’t taste like coffee at all.

but lacking
Bedside cabinet had something spilt on it only 1 towel each (small)
A warm night and the heater came on at about 2am cooking us awake  should have checked it maybe?

Being mid-winter the sole heater struggled to combat the cold, two other heaters failed to function for me or at least failed to produce any heat, I did not seek assistance on that problem,spent more time in front of the open fire in the lounge.

but cold floor tiles and although there was a wall heater it did very little to heat the room.

Room was freezing and no one was at reception to ask for another heater.

Adjoining unit was just through the door and we could hear everything going on even what people were talking about.

however we felt that the room could have done with an air conditioner for heating/cooling and the chairs to watch tv were hard and not comfortable.

The only issue was the room was extremely hot in early February, even with two fans running.

Just a little hot, in both hotel itself and the room, seemed that heaters were on (it was an already hot day).

Despite no air conditioning we would come again… just not at the peak of summer.

For a price point of $220 per night the accommodation needs a refresh the installation of air conditioning and some little luxuries like water on arrival, all of these little things would help the property immensely

It was way too hot and we required the fan on all night.

Had to drag all our luggage upstairs , no lift, no help to do this.

There is no lift so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs (this is only one night of a longer holiday so we have actual luggage), the room is super basic, desperately in need of a renovation.

Most incredibly, one has to carry one’s suitcase up the stairs as there is no elevator or anyone to help.

Being an older person, no lift was a negative with my bag, to start with,

however being on the 2nd floor with no elevator it was a challenge to haul our luggage upstairs.

I suspect this lead to there being a wait to check-in due to about 6 people arriving at once, and no-one available to help carry my suitcase up the stairs (no lift).

The room was on the first floor up two flights of stairs (no lift or assistance with luggage) the rooms have no air conditioning and a small heater so don’t stay during summer), there was a small pedestal fan.

We did not use a lift to access our room and to be honest I do not know if there is one.

No lift to the rooms in second floor, so you would need to carry the luggages up/down via stairs.

3) There doesn't seem to be any wheelchair ramp to the front door or an elevator so if you are in a wheelchair or have difficulty climbing stairs, then you might want to ask to stay downstairs.

There is no elevator so if you are unfit ask for a downstairs room.

Although there is no lift, the reception staff will happily carry your luggage up the minimal stairs.

There is no lift and I refused the offer of help with luggage which was a mistake as there are a lot of stairs.

No lifts, not sure if there are any ground floor rooms.

One gripe was we were on the first floor and there’s no elevator in the main building.

The only negative was the lack of an elevator for lots of bags

Only feedback I could give is that there needs to be a staff member to take up luggage to the first floor as there isn't a lift and someone could fall trying to haul luggage up the stairs.

Personally, I would stay again also Super friendly staff.

When I booked on the phone (in August), the gentleman I dealt with was super friendly and helpful.

We thought the people at the desk and staff in general could’ve been more friendly, approachable and attentive.

Great food in the restaurant and the staff were so friendly.

The rooms are clean and the staff are friendly.

Very relaxing stay, comfortable room with lovely view, friendly helpful staff, lovely grounds with a swimming pool .Handy  to everything, especially the Hot Pools which were very relaxing (and quiet).

All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly expecially to my 7 year old daughter, she loved it.

We were given another room as ours wasn’t ready and it still had rubbish in the bins, the blinds weren’t cleaned or straight and there were rips in the net curtain.

Overall Hanmer is run down and very over priced.

Our room wasn't ready on check in so we had to wait, and we paid for breakfast, last time we came it was a lovely buffet with eggs, sausages, bacon etc this time it was only toast and hard muesli.

our patio room was booked and paid for in advance when we arrived we were informed that they had given our room to other guests they told us we had to have a room upstairs with no view we exchanged words with the staff

Have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast.

The full price rate, without water park, may be on the high side.

I spoke to a gentleman at reception and was given excuses  we paid $215 for 1 night I was gutted!

but not for the premium of the services not received

but expensive for what you get and not good value for money.

but we had to drag our suitcases and bags for a long time while others had the car in front of the garden unit.Breakfast was poor coffee I call it hot water my wife drinks only decaff and she had to pay $ 6.00 for a cup of poor coffee all by all a shame

but food and drinks at the bar are a bit pricey.

I agree with others that the hotel is a bit dated, which is not reflected in the top dollar we paid for our stay.

Glad we had got a deal through grab one because would have been disappointed if paying full price.

Restuarant could improve it's  selection on menu and  coffee prices.

On the slightly expensive side for what is on offer,

It totally needs to be removed from your available rooms at this higher price.

We appreciated their willingness to try and do the right thing.

but our cabin was way over  priced and very dated and cold.

And we surely didn't feel cold in your new units.

but was so cold I could not sleep , I explained I needed it to be on for 10 mins only then once in bed all would be ok , as the  and Family Heakthcare Consultant of NZ I certainly would not intentionally keep any child awake .The coke Machine was whirring all night and the Tumbke drier with metal clanging was on for 3 hours but as these are charged for they are never turned off .The manager was terribly rude about my disability and Top Ten are investigating , I have been advised since that the ALPiNe adventure holiday park is much better and would have looked after me superbly .

Heat pump in the room & electric blankets meant we felt toasty warm in a cold snap.

Toilet and shower block were lovely and with three bar radiators wall mounted above the cubicles meant you didn't get cold no matter the time of day or the weather.

It was a little cold in the shower block and they could do with some form of heating.

The only negative comment is in relation to the toilet and showerblock - need some maintenance, very cold and very damp - need to improve heating and ventilation in the winter months

The bathroom was cold and cubicles very small, something that may have been acceptable 30yrs ago

We use lots of top tens and this is the.most expensive and the most basic missing g locked on toilet door no heating in toilet and shower blocks so cold you can't have a shower without freezing.

Nonetheless it was a very cold night during our stay

however the older chap who checked us out was a little cold.

The amenities block was not heated which is a shame on cold days and it is a bit dated

despite booking in over the phone and told check in time was 1pm it was 3.30pm before we were able to enter our room as it wasn't cleaned yet, I found the owners to be most unsympathetic to our needs on a cold raining day.

Check in was very friendly with plenty of guidance and they put us on a powered grass plot with plenty of space to practice reversing our 6 birth Maui Camper.

The Hanmer Springs Top 10 Holiday Park was affordable, close to town, close to the forest walks, great facilities and managed by great staff.

Beautiful toilet and bathroom facilities, very welcoming reception staff who tended to other guests needs quickly and, in my opinion, went above and beyond to make sure they were happy.

Pizza is avaliable from reception to cook in the pizza oven.

Rae went out of her way to ensure our stay was all we hoped for with our package deal after needing to change our dates three times due to covid levels.

Due to a change of plans we ended up having 2 nights here after our original one night stay booking - SO pleased we had the 2 nights as it really is a very special place.

but due to multiple road closures we detoured and booked a room last minute.

If I was to be very picky about something to improve our lovely experience, maybe time for some new towels as the current ones have taken on a slightly grey tone due to use and maybe slightly bigger towels would be nice for those that are also on the taller side!

After being advised by his doctor for some immediate time out due to exhaustion, my husband, and I, busily looked online, found The St James and hurriedly took off from Christchurch.

We only stayed in Hanmer Springs for one night due to a tight travelling schedule

but due to flight cancellations we turned up at the last minute.

My husband and I made a detour into Hanmer due to not being able to get to Christchurch because of the earthquakes.

but due to the mining tragedy in Greymouth decided to change our plans,one quick phone call to this hotel to ask if we could change the date of arrival was handled without fuss.The spacious apartment was very well fitted out,especially the lighting which was obviously very well thought out,this hotel has definately got it right.

This was the fifth time that we have had the privilege of staying at this we rate five-plus star Motor lodge the staff were friendly and the welcome at reception excellent.

Always a friendly welcome, and the rooms are very comfortable.

The friendly staff were welcoming from the moment we entered reception to the day we checked out.

Beautiful rooms with underfloor heating, wonderful views, friendly staff, great proximity to Hanmer Spa pools, bush walks and excellent places to eat.

We could smell the bakery so asked at reception - turns out bakery was right in front of the hotel.

We went to the hot pools and then got some dinner and returned to the room; it still smelled of gas (there may have still been some in the pipes?).

My only complaints would be lack of dishcloth provided (just a scourer) and the fact there is no extractor fan in the kitchen yet a sticker on the wall threatens fines if you leave lingering smells in the apartment!

It was cold and damp, and frankly I was well and truly over the drive.

but the smell of incense is totally over powering!

I am a smoker and did not realise that the entire premises are non-smoking, so I enquired as to where I could smoke.

The t.v in the bedroom was too small and if you are a smoker don't bother as you have to go off the premises and over the road!

Kathy kindly put the milk in the fridge & closed the curtains for us so when we arrived it was lovely & warm in our unit.

A special mention to the staff  member 'Salil ', he was fabulous and so welcoming, he made our stay so lovely and he came to the many  calls for help, for anything we could not work , it is so nice to get such good service and with a smile.

Lovely modern hotel located on the edge of the town with a very pleasant manager.

Highly recommend, so clean, lovely staff, I booked 2 rooms joining, worked so well, everything we needed & more, even warm floors, great location, can’t wait to come back, big thanks to Jan, great service, well worth every cent, cya again soon
