Once in room , it was dark, cold, and definitely not what pictures portrayed, no proper heater, no electric blankets in winter, only water available was from bathroom tap.

The curtains were stained, the bathroom has a build up of scum in the grouting, filthy toilet tank cover, dust in the filter and heater system.

but that besides, the room being tired the TV didn’t work, the extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work.

Poorly maintained in the outside of the unit with weeds in the garden.

The bathroom heater was broken, the heated towel rail was not fully functional and the bed was old and extremely soft and sloped towards the floor on one side.

We looked out to other rooms and the air conditioning unit which was loud.

Rooms have no air conditioning so there is a portable fan in the room, no style to the bedrooms and dated.

but after paying $1200+ for 3 nights 1 room here’s my honest review:

The bad:
No air con unit just an old $40 fan on a stand 
Room smelt really bad
Red wine stains on floor
Small old school TV with no digital channels
Very basic free breakfast where the coffee was so weak it didn’t taste like coffee at all.

but lacking
Bedside cabinet had something spilt on it only 1 towel each (small)
A warm night and the heater came on at about 2am cooking us awake  should have checked it maybe?

Being mid-winter the sole heater struggled to combat the cold, two other heaters failed to function for me or at least failed to produce any heat, I did not seek assistance on that problem,spent more time in front of the open fire in the lounge.

but cold floor tiles and although there was a wall heater it did very little to heat the room.

Room was freezing and no one was at reception to ask for another heater.

Adjoining unit was just through the door and we could hear everything going on even what people were talking about.

however we felt that the room could have done with an air conditioner for heating/cooling and the chairs to watch tv were hard and not comfortable.

The only issue was the room was extremely hot in early February, even with two fans running.

Just a little hot, in both hotel itself and the room, seemed that heaters were on (it was an already hot day).

Despite no air conditioning we would come again… just not at the peak of summer.

For a price point of $220 per night the accommodation needs a refresh the installation of air conditioning and some little luxuries like water on arrival, all of these little things would help the property immensely

It was way too hot and we required the fan on all night.

then the continental breakfast was perfect too.

Breakfast was a continental buffet which is exactly what i expected and good considering.

The cooked breakfast is just a buffet so all items were cold.

Plus our room was very clean, plenty of hot water for showers and the evening meals, delicious.

The continental breakfast that was included was great.

We haven’t had our continental breakfast yet,

but full this time so we decided to try the hotel - it was nice enough hotel, clean, warm, nice bar with open fire at the back but not really worth the extra cost 

Continental breakfast was just ok .

The staff were very welcoming, the rooms very clean and the breakfast service was perfect.

Continental breakfast was abit minimalistic

Breakfast was fine with 3 options offered with our deal.

By far the most enjoyable part of our stay was our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel restaurant.

Breakfast was phenomenal, I'm looking forward to staying another time just for breakfast haha.

A complimentary continental breakfast was a bonus.

Had to drag all our luggage upstairs , no lift, no help to do this.

There is no lift so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs (this is only one night of a longer holiday so we have actual luggage), the room is super basic, desperately in need of a renovation.

Most incredibly, one has to carry one’s suitcase up the stairs as there is no elevator or anyone to help.

Being an older person, no lift was a negative with my bag, to start with,

however being on the 2nd floor with no elevator it was a challenge to haul our luggage upstairs.

I suspect this lead to there being a wait to check-in due to about 6 people arriving at once, and no-one available to help carry my suitcase up the stairs (no lift).

The room was on the first floor up two flights of stairs (no lift or assistance with luggage) the rooms have no air conditioning and a small heater so don’t stay during summer), there was a small pedestal fan.

We did not use a lift to access our room and to be honest I do not know if there is one.

No lift to the rooms in second floor, so you would need to carry the luggages up/down via stairs.

3) There doesn't seem to be any wheelchair ramp to the front door or an elevator so if you are in a wheelchair or have difficulty climbing stairs, then you might want to ask to stay downstairs.

There is no elevator so if you are unfit ask for a downstairs room.

Although there is no lift, the reception staff will happily carry your luggage up the minimal stairs.

There is no lift and I refused the offer of help with luggage which was a mistake as there are a lot of stairs.

No lifts, not sure if there are any ground floor rooms.

One gripe was we were on the first floor and there’s no elevator in the main building.

The only negative was the lack of an elevator for lots of bags

Only feedback I could give is that there needs to be a staff member to take up luggage to the first floor as there isn't a lift and someone could fall trying to haul luggage up the stairs.

I’d seriously be wary of staying here for the price they charge and the lack of amenities.

We were given another room as ours wasn’t ready and it still had rubbish in the bins, the blinds weren’t cleaned or straight and there were rips in the net curtain.

Overall Hanmer is run down and very over priced.

Our room wasn't ready on check in so we had to wait, and we paid for breakfast, last time we came it was a lovely buffet with eggs, sausages, bacon etc this time it was only toast and hard muesli.

our patio room was booked and paid for in advance when we arrived we were informed that they had given our room to other guests they told us we had to have a room upstairs with no view we exchanged words with the staff

Have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast.

but I’d seriously be wary of staying here for the price they charge and the lack of amenities. Cheers

The full price rate, without water park, may be on the high side.

I spoke to a gentleman at reception and was given excuses  we paid $215 for 1 night I was gutted!

but not for the premium of the services not received

but expensive for what you get and not good value for money.

but we had to drag our suitcases and bags for a long time while others had the car in front of the garden unit.Breakfast was poor coffee I call it hot water my wife drinks only decaff and she had to pay $ 6.00 for a cup of poor coffee all by all a shame

but food and drinks at the bar are a bit pricey.

I agree with others that the hotel is a bit dated, which is not reflected in the top dollar we paid for our stay.

Glad we had got a deal through grab one because would have been disappointed if paying full price.

Restuarant could improve it's  selection on menu and  coffee prices.

On the slightly expensive side for what is on offer,

It totally needs to be removed from your available rooms at this higher price.

Breakfast in the restaurant excellent too.

It was good value for money, when considering you include breakfast and dinner for two people.

Me and my partner had a fantastic stay at the lodge the rooms were very tidy & the bed was super cozy , the spa & spa bath was very easy to use and so relaxing it was definitely a very nice night away, the food & cocktails at the restaurant were delicious too, & a special mention to the staff & jason for being so kind & giving amazing service will definitely be back soon (:

Breakfast was amazing with an array of treats.

Brewed coffee on the breakfast buffet was warm at best so we asked for espresso which was hot and excellent.

Dinner package was delicious and Braemar is the perfect place to hideaway in paradise.

The food was amazing, my only regret was that my appetite couldn’t manage more it was delicious & beautifully presented.

even though they where still short on staff, one morning the manager was cooking the eggs for breakfast to make sure we where happy.

My wife and I had a 2 night breakaway on an accommodation , dinner and breakfast deal.

There is nothing ordinary here - from the delightful, friendly, polite and courteous staff, to the exceptionally appointed spacious rooms and the food that the amazing chef's produce daily is simply spectacular and delicious.

We purchased an all inclusive package with accommodation, buffet breakfast and a three course dinner.

Beef fillet was perfectly medium rare and the pork cutlet was delicious.

We also dined in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and again we could not fault the food or service (even with the intrusion of the fire alarm - false -

Restaurant food was pretty average and barebones, which for the price is certainly not good.

Also take your own snacks and drinks as the minibar charges are exorbitant.

but feel very disappointed - especially for the price paid.

but if you going , sneak in some treats of your own because the bar and draw luxuries are not cheap and don't touch a think because you touch and eat , you pay 😁

With the restaurant the food was well below standard and for the price that was charged for dinner the food was not good at all.

For the amount the room costs per night, I’d expect slightly more.

The meals are expensive at around $40 for mains.

Definitely not worth the price and we wouldn’t stay again.

You can’t expect to charge 5 star prices when you admit failures - read your reviews and act on them

but if that’s the case then lower the price, it’s certainly not reflecting a place that was $660 for two nights.

The initial bill was for an exorbitant amount, presented as a  final figure with no supporting detail.

It was overpriced for what you are actually getting, it was not what we were expecting at all.

Upon entry, the bedhead was literally so filthy we requested to have it cleaned, the curtains were hanging off and being held on with some contraption, the glass was dirty, the bathroom floor was filthy, the carpets need replacement, the hot tub smelled and was so grubby that you couldn't have paid us to use it.

This hotel is clearly over priced and under resourced.

Guys, this is an expensive spa retreat and having no hot water for 24h is little fun.

but considering we paid extra to have the premium suite with spas inside and out, we were quite disappointed when the cover wasn’t even on the outside spa, plus it was very dirty inside it, to the point we didn’t feel comfortable using it.

We stayed for three nights and had the scrumptious breakfast every day, my favourite breakfast in the world.

Gold star accommodation, platinum level breakfast and world class service - all combined for a memorable stay. Why?

The gardens are beautiful, we enjoyed sipping wine, walking around them & breakfast outside.

There’s a barbecue and a microwave and with a bit of imagination we cooked a delicious meal -

We ordered Breakfast the following morning and it was the best breakfast we have had on our trip to NZ.

Marchmont Gardens is described as a bed and breakfast.

Definitely our best breakfast on this holiday!

Your choice of breakfast items hot or cold are delivered to your room, which can be enjoyed on your patio while gazing up at the mountains or at your table in the room or in that giant bed.

Bindy our hostess was informative on local history, warm and friendly and made a superbly delicious cooked breakfast.

Our very spacious studio was super clean and warm and the breakfasts were scrumptuous,  Towels for the springs were provided for us and changed every day.

Breakfast the next morning was delicious, the yogurt was amazing.

Breakfast was a special event each with a great selection and excellent quality.

Bindy was fantastic and her breakfast is to die for.

A delicious tray of nibbles and wine took our breath away.

She thinks of everything the lovely wee snacks and the gorgeous tray of nibbles and the sumptuous breakfasts.

Despite the rain trying to spoil our visit, Marchmont Gardens is a wonderful place to stay.Bindy provided towels for us to use at the Hot Springs and provided a delicious breakfast in the morning.

The highlight for us was that we could take our wee Miniature Schnauzer (we rang ahead and checked, he travels with his own crate to sleep in).

Calling it a room doesn't do it justice, in size it is more a small apartment and every need has been anticipated.

In fact it is the first time I have bothered to put a comment on trip advisor.

The only negative is I really don't think the website does this place justice!

We stayed in the Morse Suite that had a sunroom where we enjoyed a delicious breakfast from a varied menu each morning.

The house is ideally located, the room was big and nice, the breakfast was amazing and served in the room, which was nice.

Very private and comfortable, we especially enjoyed the delicious breakfast delivered to us just outside our door in the morning.

A charming glassed in sun room adjoined our bedroom for private breakfast which is brought on trays to your door in the morning.

Everything you could want is provided   The breakfast served directly to us in the garden ( no awkward conversations with other guests ) was superb.

And the made to order breakfast was impressive and yummy.

Breakfast was delivered to us on a tray and was superb.

Only regret is not having the breakfast booked through the place for the next day as cafes had big waits, no tables and not as big of a menu plus how convenient would it have been getting breakfast bought to the cottage!

The breakfast is fantastic and the choices available cater for all.

We really can't recommend this glorious place highly enough - not only because of the beautiful glorious rooms & amazing breakfasts

A wellness retreat where you get yoga and meditation training, a daily massage and plant based breakfast and dinner I found to be great value.

We thoroughly enjoyed the spa, yoga and wholesome dinner and breakfast.

Breakfasts were amazing and the people friendly!

They were also able to cater for the vegan breakfast request from me and have a lovely breakfast options.

There was unfortunately some miscommunication with the charges for the 'extras' which was not pleasant to have to discuss/debate this when feeling so relaxed at the end of our stay - perhaps it would be better to outline this on arrival or provide an itinerary of charges via email before arrival so informed choices could be made?

We were charged an extra $50 to upgrade as they did not have a room for our voucher.

A month on I see that they have charged $50 extra on my credit card.

VL isn't necessarily the kind of luxury you might see in an expensive hotel,

However the overall environment, breakfast provided etc was very expensive for the quality of what was received.

Firstly wotif.com told us price for the 3 bedrm was $229.

However, this is an extremely overpriced place and did not constitute the 'luxury' stay expected.

The option to have breakfast on your terrace with a view is delightful.

The continental breakfast was above and beyond, laid out in a shared lounge area, creating an opportunity to meet fellow travellers.

but the price was reasonable and the continental breakfast was included in the room rate.

An excellent breakfast and a comfortabele room.

Lots of beautiful birds right in front of your room, watching the changing colour sky over the Leslie hills, listening to beautiful bird song, early hike next to the lodge before breakfast, hot shower, balcony breakfast, loved it all

Delicious breakfast was left for us in the guest lounge room.

Breakfast has every possible choice & delicious.

I was given a variety of helpful recommendations on what to do in Hanmer Springs, had a long chat with Dave about what to do and where to go during my vacation in New Zealand and had a delicious breakfast which I could either eat at the lounge area or take to my own room.

We were treated to a bottle of bubbles and a delicious platter as part of our package.

The breakfast was very good and we enjoyed it every morning in the guests lounge also relaxing there in the evening on a winters night.

The supplied breakfast was a great touch, and we thoroughly enjoyed the view from our balcony as well as the fabulous location.

Nice and clean rooms, great view from the large balcony, excellent typical New Zealand breakfast.
