Secondly the Airconditioning was not available which we argued with Managment to let it switched On.

but the AC unit wreaked of cigarette smoke when we turned it on.

We found the room to be very hot and the a/c is controlled centrally.

We did find the room to be quite hot, and we were offered a portable AC unit to remedy this, which seemed strange

I was slightly reluctant when I first made my booking, mainly because I am not huge fan to big hotel chains.

(it's near winter and most of the hotels and malls have switched their function of the air-con to only fan blower instead of having cold air too).

They have the heating on at present, and lowering the thermostat does not cool the room.

Only issue a noisy air conditioning, but the beauty of the lake landscape  is worth a little pain!

and please think of installing Nespresso coffee machines in the rooms.

Firstly, the room smells, a very typical china air conditioning smell, old musty.

cons:
There is no air condition on the rooms, ask staff for a fan if the room is to hot.

but staff informed me that I could of asked for a fan

however had I complained about it, they would have installed a portable air conditioner.

Only the concern is the aircondition of the hotel.

They even changed our covers to cooler covers and lowered the room heating when we told them we prefer to sleep cool.

Perfect location to start excursions from, great and comfortable rooms, delicious dinner and breakfast.

Rooms are tidy, the breakfast has lots of Chinese and Western choices and they have a well equipped gym.

Recommend travellors to take their breakfast from the stores outside the hotel.

but executed perfectly with quality ingredients.

We opted to forgo hotel breakfast (Y188 per person) and instead found buns and noodles at a local joint for much cheaper.

Buffet Choice and quality was ok for rouhly USD 30.

Very large and clean room   Room service breakfast was good.

Many choices for food, Western restaurant (where excellent breakfast is also served), Tai and Chinese.

From the concierge to the staff in the breakfast and the nice lady who cleaned our room really added the extra plus I won’t forget to mention Anita who is always our great host who always goes above & beyond to assist us in what we need.

but ended up also loving it for its very helpful international staff and delicious breakfast buffet.

The breakfast buffet offered a good choice of Western and Asian food (with a focus on Chinese dishes)

Luckily was opted for the breakfast buffet included option, which alleviated the need to go somewhere to have breakfast.

and above all super attentive and friendly staff.

Anyone - from the front desk to the waiters and cooks as well as the cleaning ladies - were friendly, professional, and attentive.

The highlight is certainly the service at the front desk, where Ada served us and was very friendly.

Steven and Jason are very friendly and helpful.

At check in was greeted by friendly, very helpful and efficient front desk staff.

The hotel staff were super friendly and helped me out a lot to find my way around Hangzhou.

Staff are friendly, attentive and very helpful to your every need.

The front desk and concierge team are efficient and friendly.

but the associates are friendly specially Badr who was attentive to every detail and he was always ready to help.

Mahdi he was super friendly and professional  person on duty.

The good location (just a 3 min walk from West Lake) , excellent equipped rooms, a friendly and helpful consierge and an attentive guest relationship manager are definitely worth highlighting.

Then there was Charles with his friendly smile ready to give suggestions where to go and helping us calling didi (China’s uber) car and even accompanied us to the car.

Other than the initial checked in hiccup the staff was really helpful and friendly.

Fundamentally, their conceirge is very friendly and professional.

Any special request can be arranged by the helpful  friendly Arab staff  “Sara” and “Mahdi”

The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere around the hotel was great.

There's plenty of food choices nearby, including a small night market.

Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale Hangzhou is a really nice hotel, just 5 mins walk to the west lake, very close to the night market and metro is also nearby.

The location is perfect, just next to West Lake and broken bridge and Night Market.

The hotel is located close to a restaurant area and next to the night market where you can sit with the locals.

The location of the hotel is ideal for exploring the west lake and at night there is a night market 1 block over.

Overall very good location, just across Westlake with a night market at the back.

The hotel is also near to the Westlake and broken bridge, I recommend everyone specially to go during the sunset, there is also an small night market offering some street food and Chinese souvenirs, few western bars are also nearby.

Also close to Wulin night market, so snacking food options are always available.

I stayed three night in this hotel, the location is very good near to west lake and near to a market .

Also very close to local eateries and the daily night market which is always well attended by the local youths - lovely stalls of both food and crafts! 2.

Wyndham Gand is perfectly located near the corner of the lake and near lots of night market activities too.

There is a food street and night market on the street next to the hotel.

Excellent hotel with indoors swimming and rich breakfast, the staff gave us an early Check-in after our long trip, it is worth for what you pay, the location is right next to the lake and nearby there is every evening a Night Market where you can buy local products.

Especially their guest relations manager Eva is just amazing.

Eva from Guest Relations happily gave us a late check out as well as recommendations of cafés to visit to enjoy Hangzhou before going back home.

We stayed at the Hotel as a family with a kid and Badr from the guest relations was very attentive to our needs and helped us get confortable and enjoy our stay at the hotel.

But during my last night we met Badr the Guest Relation Manager and we gave him our feedback, with his small gestures and kindness he was able to made up our stay which will definitely let us reconsider the hotel for our upcoming visit.

and I would like to thank the guest relation manager Mr. Mahdi to help me through this journey.

Staff at reception was very polite and helpful, and Yuki Gong, the Guest Relations Manager, spent time to help me to make a query as to why my local SIM card did not work.

The employees are very helpful and from different countries.the guest relations officer  named Sara was very helpful to us investing a lot of energy in orienting us to many beautiful sites in hangzhou.

Sara in guest relations was very helpful and recommended some cool local places to visit.

Our stay was actually in April 2016 and what really stood out for us from staying in a few hotels in China was the international guest relations team.

There was also a kind of strange odor in the room.

It does smell like smoke which bothered me.

If you have aversion to cigarette smoke be warned, this hotel does not favor your preference.

The only down side of this hotel was the room was a little musty.

but there was a latent smell of smoke throughout which was off-putting.

As I walked in I smelled some cigarettes from the room.

The bread was a little stale my first morning, cheese was going a little hard, some of the cuts of meats I had in the evening were chewy, the omelettes needed seasoning, the Chinese options at the buffet were not great in flavour and a lot of it comes from pre-packaged supermarket stuff – you could see the plastic packaging for the fried dumplings – not something I’d expect from a 5 star hotel.

Overall the hotel was fab - they have a smoking issue like many hotels in China i guess so rooms can smell of cigarettes

On my second stay the room did not smell of smoke

To me the decor seemed rather heavy and state leader-ish, and nobody asked me if I wanted a non-smoking room or not,

Room smelled a bit stale, housekeeping came with air freshener within 5 minutes (at 1am) and fixed it right up.

however there were other events being held and people were smoking and making loud noises at the open area (sitting area and tea breaks).

Anyway the room had no smoke smell what so ever.

2) Very polite and warm services were provided in Executive Club Lounge, such as: personal favorite breakfast preparation and special cocktails offering during happy hour time by Clara.

The breakfast buffet is incomparable to anywhere I’ve ever been or anything I’ve ever seen.

The property provided breakfast & lounge access for Platinum members.

The latte was my favourite during breakfast at the ground floor.

What made my stay especially nice was Ms. Summer Zhu and her Executive Lounge staff.

Hotel staff is great and lounge is as good as you will find in a Marriott in China.

The staff in the lounge are excellent, especially the manager Summer who seems to always remember every guests name and make each guest feel like they are being welcomed back home every time they walk in.

The Exec lounge supervisor is Summer, and she went way beyond normal service to help with directions, city ideas, restaurants and more.

That said, based on the overall lack of non-smoking policy enforcement observed here, that might make pleasure feel more like business.

We had been guests since the propety opened about 7 years ago, be we decided to make a switch after things became stale.

however note that we could smell cigarette smoke from somewhere at times.

The steam burns was not fresh, miso soup was cold.

I check into the hotel room & found out that the room carpet smell.

I have to argue for 10 minutes to get a non smoking room.

Even after being changed, it's still smelly.

Expect other local normalcies such as people smoking in the elevator, having to wear a swim cap in the pool, adults who encourage their kids to relieve themselves in the pool, people pushing and shoving their way at the breakfast line and a taxi line with taxis unlikely to drive you anywhere unless it's a far distance (why they don't ban said taxis from future pickups at the property is beyond me).

Also there was a tiny burn mark on the counter of the coffee machine.

If you stand in the LONG line for the "sanctioned" taxi's expect to stand for 30 minutes or more with people cutting in line, no AC and lots of smoke.

The view of West Lake from many rooms and the Lounge is a plus, as is the central location by Wulin Square.

As for the hotel, it was very well situated, walking distance to shopping, dining and entertainment venues of all sorts in addition to being close to the Wulin Square metro station.

The nearest Metro station (Wulin Square) is only 5-8 min away on foot.

It is also near the Wulin Square Metro Station for easy access, The Grand Canal and the Hangzhou Tower Shopping Mall.

The location is about 500 to 600 meters from the Wulin Square subway Exit B.

During my weekend I was able to easily cover Lingyin Temple, Wulin Square, Hefang Street (at night) and of course the various locations and sights in and around the West Lake.

The opposite site of this hotel is Wulin Square and walking a few minutes we arrive at Hangzhou Hall.

Very conveniently located right at the Wulin Square area with plenty to do around the hotel location.

Even Line 1 Metro station Wulin Square is nearby.

but on way back very difficult to find one, nearest subway at present is Wulin Square metro station which is about 15-20 min walk.

The hotel room is clean and neat, the cafe and lounge provide delicious foods.

The food of the Executive Lounge is delicious and especially the special hot drink made by Miss Summer really surprise me!

We arrived a little after midnight (Jan 9) due to flight delays and we were turned away because "the worker was gone already".

though didn't go very well due to a miscommunication between reservation desk and front desk staff, issue was sorted by the on duty manager.

It took us about 20min by car to get to the lake due to the regular Hangzhou traffic.

Since this hotel established, I tried to stay a couple of days, After that, due to their excellant management and service I stayed twice a year in average till last month in 2015.

Probably due in part to sharing the same building as the JW, this Courtyard offers amenities and services that I'm not used to seeing as part of this brand, such as an on-site restaurant.

I didn't have breakfast unfortunately due to jet-lag,
