We had forwarded our bags from the main bullet train station in Tokyo (to save us lugging them around the Hakone Freedom Pass area) when we left Tokyo in the morning and they were at the hotel (and in our rooms) before we arrived.

We had 2 large bags in addition to some smaller suitcases and we were lucky there was room for them.

The pillows were rather uncomfortable (like a bag of wheat, which I noticed were in a few of the other hotels we stayed in).

Coming from Kyoto was more complicated than we expected, so we were very glad we had shipped our suitcases and travelled with only overnight bags.

Staff are incredibly helpful and friendly including the women (in my case) that show you all of the basics of your room and how to operate appropriately in the baths, etc.

Bear in mind that the hotel only takes cash.

Please note that they accept only cash payments in Japanese Yen.

Any charges billed to the room are paid at this time in CASH.

*The only negative thing I can say about the hotel is this: when you enter, you realize that your online booking DID NOT immediately charge your credit card like it said, and YOU MUST PAY CASH WHEN YOU ARRIVE.

The experience begins by changing to Japanese clothes, Japanese hotel room where you sleep on the floor, Japanese restaurant serving authentic food (you can get fork and knife if you ask - we did not).

You're supposed to shower in their public bath and obviously in Japanese terms, no clothes are allowed inside

Don’t bother with massage was the worst one I’ve ever had, light rubbing through clothes!

We wanted to leave soon after breakfast so we wore our normal clothes to breakfast,

When we check into the hotel we were a little disappointed, it looked like any other hotel lobby and people (reception and guests) were in western clothes.

please don't wash your clothes in the hot springs).

but at the price we paid it simply wasn’t special enough.

however the food is exceptional - multiple course traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner included in your room price, beautifully presented.

For the price, it's the best deal in the area, luxury feeling with a budget.

We paid for a private onsen which was fabulous - sitting in the hot water looking into the bamboo grove behind the hotel was one of the highlights of our stay.

There is a public bath and a private one that you can book at extra expense - both are wonderful and definitely worth it.

The food was also amazing, and the private onsen experience was very much worth the additional cost.

Conclusion
For the price it sounds like a good deal

It was absolutely worth the price and a nice experience to end on.

Although this hotel is obviously more pricey than others it is worth every penny.

We ate the set price meal for dinner one night - wonderful!

When we arrived, the hotel was clean, appeared to have had some remodeling in the lobby and common areas, which was a pleasant surprise as the photos seemed to suggest a dark and older building.

Upon arriving at the hotel, I noticed that the hotel grounds and interior is in much better condition than what the photos actually show.

The room had a small screened in porch area that had a view of the surrounding mountains.

Loved Hakone too - open air museum and Pola - consider getting a train from Gotemba to Namazu then to Mishima to then get the bullet train for inward journey (instead of return to Odawara) as there are amazing views of Mount Fuji  on a clear day - get bus to outlet then free bus to Gotemba station.

Despite the name of the hotel we did not have a view of Mt Fuji from anywhere during our stay.

we booked this in particular to relax as it was away from the city and in the midst of the mountain and nature.

The bigger one is a single wooden bath filled with hot spring's water with the same view of the previous one.

Spotlessly clean, attentive service. The owners are very knowledgeable about the beautiful area of Hakone, where there are many activities (sportive, cultural, natural, history etc.)

I enjoyed drinking tea in the evening in the eating area while planning the next day and chatting with the friendly owner.

There is a communal sitting area which was nice for the group travelling to congregate in after we returned from dinner.

There can be a shortage of showers (only one is separate from the onsen ) so I recommend you book an onsen slot for when you want to shower and hit two birds with one stone 

There’s unlimited green tea on tap and a cozy area to relax in.

The outdoor onsen can be booked for 30 minutes at a time for ¥500 per person. The living area has several couches, a piano (!)

We had a great night here hanging out in the communal area.

All instructions on how to use the public transport to get to the guest house from Odawara station and how to go around the areas are very clear.

While there isn’t much in the way of shopping or entertainment in the immediate area, the quiet location makes for a nice peaceful walk.

The bus stop which can take you all around the area, is 100 yards from the hotel and very handy.

We really enjoyed the true Japanese experience and the local hospitality.

We were looking for a ryokan or minshuku experience during our 2 weeks in Japan and the Fuji-Hakone Guesthouse exceeded our expectations.

While not fancy or pretentious, it offers a genuine guest house experience where one can enjoy the onsen experience privately.

It is a traditional ryokan, so this is the place if you want an authentic experience.

I did the outdoor onsen and it was amazingly relaxing and a great experience.

There is a small Onsen and you can reserve time slots as couples for a nice romantic outdoor experience.

Top experience was soaking in the onsen with a slight drizzle of rain.

Our one-night stay at Fuji-Hakone Guest House was an interesting experience.

but I'd recommend it for a "when in Japan" experience!

There were a couple of aspects of this visit that made us feel uncomfortable.

It's a wonderful experience, and well worth trying out!

If I'd had known how lovely this place would be I would have factored in more than the two nights we stayed into our travels.

Traditional room was specious and had a nice view of the trees around the property so felt very secluded.

Arrived around 6pm for check in after a long bus ride from Odawara station and was feeling queasy from the winding mountain road during the bus ride.

So typical and comfortable, there is everything you need in the middle of the mountains.

Our room had a lovely view to the forrest and the sound of stream nearby.

From there,  you can see Mt.Fuji or take the ropeway to the top of the mountain.

There is a lot to see in the area, from art galleries to mountains, and everything is easy to access by the local bus from the ryokan.

A male and female toilet not far from our room (heated seats), bathroom sink outside our room, slippers to use in the toilets, dressing gowns on our bed, guest kitchen down the hall, beautiful view of the garden out of our room and used the indoor family onsen for a uniquely traditional experience.

Service-staff speaks great english, very willing to help for directions to view mt fuji and nearby area.

Great to relax in after all the wonderful walking to view the area.

The staff and the facility were well prepared and made us feel welcome and safe during our entire stay.

Very nice facilities; big, clean indoor heated pool, a dog run, a nice gym, lots of open space, an arcade, a playroom for kids, a bowling alley and also a mini golf course.

They have free swimming arm tubes for babies.

Excellent world class hotel with many facilities, extensive grounds, impeccable service and a beautiful onsen.

We spent a full weekend with two kids and another family, and we were totally blown away by the great service and facilities.

The property is massive and the building also is large with a hotel building and the fitness wing separate to it.

It seems to be quite new with spacy and well equipped rooms.

Another member of a large group checking in with us tried to throw his considerable weight around, screaming about all his Hilton Honors points and threatening the staff.

+ The view of ocean from teh room was great and all rooms have ocean view
+ The room size was big and had a tatami table and two large beds.

but cool weather but swam outdoors in the heated pool area!! Brilliant!!

Relaxed in the large outdoor jacuzzis before having a good risotto for dinner.

The pool area was so much fun for our daughter.

Our 3 year old daughter especially enjoyed the heated pools.

My husband enjoyed a swim in the lap pool.

The pool area was fairly large and had ample changing and shower areas as well.

Breakfast was good, as are the excellent pools.

While at the resort, we also played a round of mini-golf, went bowling, and used the pool a couple of times.

That hotel is a pure family resort with all you need for the whole family; swimming pools in and outdoor, driving range, table tennis, karaoke, amusement, you name it.

There are various attractions such as a gym, pools, bowling alley, mini-golf and the like.

The water was very warm in the leisure pools, and there were lots of various jets to massage our weary limbs after walking 30 miles the previous week through Tokyo.

3) Swimming pool and water spa area "baden", great for kids.

Our room was spotless, well designed and comfortable with a fantastic view of the ocean and everything you could possibly need, even including bilingual TV!!

Some of them should be in the lounge to maintain the room clean and to refill snacks and drinks!! !

The room was spotlessly clean and staff handled everything with style and finesse.
