Wonderful historic hotel that gives you a sense of Japan in the past.

but ensure when staying you have a drink in Bar Victoria in the evening, classic old Bar with great old world cocktails, book a session in the private Mermaid Room thermal bath at a nominal cost, highly recommend to book your room in the Forest Lodge or Comfy Lodge wing.

The public areas have been maintained/refurbished quite well and they do ooze charm, especially for those who like historic hotels.

We were excited about staying in this historic hotel and indeed the history of the place is amazing.

If you were looking for a classy and historical way to spend a day or two, I would recommend this hotel.

We took the train from Kyoto and arrived at a lovely old station,  walked down a steep hill to this a wonderful, historic hotel where the Great and the Good have stayed for the last 100 years so that it has great character and it was an experience in itself.

This is a fantastic historic hotel with an insanely beautiful garden (don't miss it! It takes like 20 minutes to walk through!)

Even if you appreciate the historical point of view and the old-timey luxury hinted at by the crumbling, creaking staircases and wizened halls, the hotel still suffers as a current attraction.

If you enjoy historic hotels you will love this one.

With regard to Miyanoshita, it contains some interesting craft shops and antique shops and on one occasion we ate at the Naraya Cafe which is close to the railway station.

The hotel is located about 25 minutes from Odawara Station, and as you arrive, you're welcomed into a charming complex of traditional Japanese buildings surrounded by nature.The service was outstanding — warm, polite, and attentive throughout our stay.One of the highlights is the stunning Japanese garden in the back.

Bedroom beautiful, garden gorgeous, onsen tranquil, so relaxing.

The cafe has the best cakes in the world and there is a nice Japanese garden behind it.

The rockery garden, complete with pools of koi, waterfalls, hot houses filled with bonsai and exotic plants - stunning.

The gardens and ponds are very lovely here.

As other people have said the location and grounds are stunning with beautiful gardens and koi pond at the back of the Hotel.

My parents spent 3 nights at Fujiya so we spent time exploring the exquisite gardens, the museum & enjoyed desserts, pizza & happy hour drinks.

Our room was presented well enough, with everything explained to us and a great view of the garden outside from the huge windows.

Located in a very large garden, it is something different for a visit to Japan.

The service is good and there is a beautiful garden.

One stop up the mountain is a wonderful Art Museum.

There is an amazing museum underneath the hotel that takes you thru the history of the hotel - very interesting.

There’s a lovely in-house museum charting its long and interesting history which is well worth a visit.

We visited the museum which was very interesting and further added to the reason for staying in this hotel.

It's a time capsule with its own museum inside the hotel.

The hotel is charming and steeped in history, they even have their own hotel museum.

There's an open air art museum a few stations up the mountain which is also well worth visiting.

Do not miss the (free) visit of the hotel history museum and a tour of the Japanese garden.

The hotel had a small museum of its history which is well worth a visit as well as a pleasant garden, (green houses where you can buy the plants), and in addition to the pool in the basement there is a second outdoor pool (summer time only).

The hotel is like a rabbit warren of corridors going in all directions, and it it worth exploring the premises if you get the chance, including the museum which provides  the history of the hotel.

A great place to express the local area (including upmarket attractions like the Lalique museum and must-see Picasso gallery. Awesome).

Customer service was really good and we enjoyed the hotel museum and pool.

We were advised to visit the museum in the hotel which was very interesting .

It even has its own museum and lots of photos of the rich and famous who used to stay there.

On my visit with friends, we stopped by and wandered through to the hotels museum, free for the public to visit.

Good location to explore Open Air Museum, onsen and other Hakone attractions.

Even with the rope tow out of service, we had a wonderful time: you can easily get to Lake Ashi by a bus that stops very near the hotel, to the unbelievable Hakone Outdoor Museum by going one stop on the mountain railway and to the outstanding Pola Museum of Art by going two stops on the mountain railway and connecting to a bus that drops you at the Museum's entrance.

Firstly, the positives: most of the staff including those on Reception, those who take you to your room and the cleaning staff are friendly and efficient; the building has a historic charm evidenced through its decor, the fascinating photographs of past guests and the wonderful hotel museum; the bedrooms are large,

Food prices are the most we’ve paid anywhere with small portions and slow service.

The main restaurant is a little expensive,

Water - For the cost of this place you don't even get a complementary water in the room, you have to pay for it.

However on closer inspection around the hotel it is in need of some repairs and painting I know a property of this size won’t come cheap

Avoidable at all costs - staff also not very helpful - asked for black tea bags in room and not provided.

but at these prices and with high occupancy the lack of investment is a disgrace  
Our  first room was a ghastly closet, opening directly outwards onto the corridor ( "please be careful when opening door" ! !!)

The cost of food is crazy, i have never seen costs so high for a sandwich or plate of chips.

Ridiculous small portion for price point..,4 small breaded shrimp, no side, all for 32$ .

The dining options were overpriced without many options.

We didn't eat in the hotel's restaurants because we found them too expensive.

The buffet breakfast was very limited for western people and did not worth the price.

The hotel food looked overpriced so we only had breakfast there,

Also the price of wine is extremely high - the lowest priced bottle available was around GBP 60.

The only restaurant near was closed, so we had to eat in hotel restaurant (grill wisteria), ridiculously expensive.

Tip - go to the main dining room, it's no more expensive than the other dinner room, there's more variety, and there's no formal dress code as there might have been at one time.

Also, the floor plan seems to be the same as before renovation, the whole bathroom is slightly smaller and the sink is smaller and smaller.The bed is single size and slightly stiff mat.There is a gallery offering free coffee and a smoking area in the building.The forest wing has a public bath and spa.The public bath is not kakenagashi from the source,

It is so old and have not been updated for decades.

but it does need some updating particularly in the bathrooms and you had a white kitchen style fridge plonked in your bedroom which looked out of place.

The worst part was the bedrooms are disgustingly old and in need of a makeover.

We were in a room in the newer area (60 years old) it felt like walking back into my grandmothers house, I don't think anything has been updated since it was first decorated, it was all very tired for me.

This hotel is very  dated..looks like they haven't re new since the 60's,so the rooms and the public areas real old and not updated.

The decor is a bit faded and could do with an update

but sooo dated -- the bed was horribly uncomfortably, the furniture was straight out of a grandma's cottage, and the bathrooms haven't been updated in decades.

Based on previous reviews, we were expecting to see a hotel in need of some updating -

The swimming pool room were old and needed some renovation,

rooms in Forest wing are in need of refurbishment,

However, its not cheap and the decor / room fixtures/fittings need an update to modern day standards.

but indoor only, the outdoor swimming pool was closed and under renovation and the spa water in the room would have been exactly like running a bath at home.

Both times our room looked like it hadn't been updated since the 1950's,

Dinner in the French restaurant was wonderful.

Regarding the food, I was impressed with the traditional seasoning of the dinner (a special order of onion gratin soup for the reasonably priced Cascade course), which used the acidity well to avoid making it heavy.

The food and rooms were excellent and we were very satisfied with our stay.

Great Korean restaurant two shops down the hill on the right.

but the grill downstairs serves fairly good food.

French dinner at the restaurant "Wisteria" was awesome as well.

Breakfast it's very good and the restaurant hall is beautiful as well.

Others are in the upstairs ‘served’ restaurant and said that was good quality as well.

Having said all this the staff were unfailingly helpful and attentive and the food good if pricey.

En route down from the rail station is a cafe that offers a table over water where you can cool your feet!

Restaurant and service were all excellent.

The staff were charming and helpful and our dinner, which we had delivered to our room, was good, if a little pricey.

Dinner was French and it was part of our deal and it was delicious.

A perfect place to walk and unwind.The rooms are spacious and designed in a traditional Japanese style, which really adds to the atmosphere.

The room was large and very comfortable .

Not all rooms are alike, and you will want to choose one with plenty sunlight and a good view.

This hotel is by far my favorite :) Professional staff, beautiful architecture, rooms are so cool and yet very comfortable, the new spa is fantastic with a semi open-air hot spring.

Heritage hotel with beautiful and spacious room and good service!

Very spacious and comfortable rooms and very good service.

The rooms look beautiful, and the surroundings are steeped in history.

The helpful staff member who showed us to our rooms was even far too polite to laugh at our foreign confusion over the thing.

The atmosphere and decoration has been kept as it was almost a century ago, yet the rooms are clean and well renovated.

Our room was huge, teak panelled, big windows surrounded by trees, perfectly clean.

The western breakfasts in the main dining room are very good.

The breakfast in the beautiful wood carved dining room was the highlight.

The dining room itself shows its glamorous past and the service is also very good.

The service was wonderful; every guest gets escorted to their rooms, and everybody working there was so kind and helpful.

Service was very good and it was all on silver service - Fish dishes seemed to be done best.

Rooms are massive, service is 5 star, even by Japanese standard,s I was very impressed.

The service quality was excellent and the way they make you feel comfortable is simply pleasing.

The service is first-class and you can access various tourist activities and hot springs around the hotel pretty easily.

There are many quant shops & restuarants within walking distance of.

but quite cold and had a bit of a smell too it.

While I can see why this would be true in a damp enclosed room, it should be addressed.

The bathroom smelled of mold and new paint to hide it.

The pool was also old, faded, and dated, the roof was black in spots, like it was mouldy.

Wooden floors that aren't carpeted are filthy.

could have been a bit cleaner as it had little patches of mold around the bath as well as more discreet places such as the tops of the shower rails (= don't hang your towels on the shower rails to dry!).

The rooms were not no smoking so the smell of smoke drifted around the hotel and was very unpleasant.

This means you have to carry your selections about 100 yards and the room smells a bit fusty

Unfortunately we had to change rooms as the first two smelled of mold.

but there was a musty smell and the door to the closet was stuck, you really had to pull on it to get open.

I'm very sensitive to smell, the old wood smell makes me very uncomfortable.

The hotel was converted to non-smoking not too long ago.

The room smelt funny and there were weird noises in the night so I would not stay here again, plus we felt it was overpriced for what you got

Cons: 
It is old, and some parts of the hotel are a bit musty.

Anyone who says this hotel smells musty, food is expensive or that it is out dated has missed the point.

but rather a demonstration of how to spray the deodorizer.

but tolerable aspect of the hotel is the odor - they spray some type of air freshener throughout the hotel, presumably to mask an existing musty odor form this old and marginally kept up hotel.

The reception is run efficiently and is well staffed.

Overall, the staff's attitude this time was good, as they were neither too close nor too far away.

The staff are friendly and will quickly help you take photos.

The staff, from the front desk to the cleaning staff, were very friendly and greeted us every time we passed each other in the hallway.

I would recommend this hotel without question

Whatsmore, the staff wait on your every whim, the old fashioned way, from the moment you set foot in the lobby right up to your room.

To start with I must say the staff are lovely, friendly and helpful

We stayed here as part of a tour and did really enjoy it the staff were efficient and very friendly.

The staff were also lovely & accommodating.

but it took a long time after I ordered it because the kitchen was away.・At the dinner buffet, when the meal was about to end, I was put on a slip and charged only to "give it out when I leave" (I'm also at fault for not checking the contents because we ate with five family members.  )

For the last day's breakfast, I didn't eat; I only had a cup of coffee with water, and they charged me a total buffet price.

I guess the only gripe is that prices are a little steep here and they actually not only charge for the room itself

However we were disappointed that they charged 1000Y/day to connect to WIFI when we had it FREE at every other Hotel we stayed in across Japan over three weeks!

but for the money this place charges, would not stay again due to the size of the rooms.

When I disputed the charge the with the staff member, he was extremely rude and would not answer any of my questions.

although we never got the chance to try them because rather than stick around and be gouged by the insane charges for things, we went elsewhere!

To add injury to insult, the already excessive food prices on the menu exclude cover charge and taxes, making the surprise even nastier.

Just add $10 to the room rate and extra person charge so guests don’t feel ripped off.

2- upon check in we were told we would be upgraded at no additional charge.

They charge for karaoke and bowling so we didn’t do that.

There is incorrect message delivery on Hilton website, so the extra fee should not charged to customer.

however, there was never any mention of any administration charge any where on any website which I search this hotel on.

But the Japanese staff insisted charging our 3 kids ( drinks ) and wouldn't just let it go.

and instead said we could have 10% off our meals if we had some kind of Japanese dining card we weren't familiar with (not associated with Hilton).

It was like that.But the pool was a lot of fun.The gym was great too, walking with the view in the blue sky.

The swimming pool is the most complete of all the Hiltons..

The children were very happy with the entrance town, the model trains, the swimming pool and the games center.

There was a pool, a rock sauna, a large public bath, a tennis court, a golf driving range, a table tennis practice area, and fitness machines, so you can relax.

We were only able to stay one night, so couldn’t experience all of the countless facilities,

The staff and the facility were well prepared and made us feel welcome and safe during our entire stay.

Very nice facilities; big, clean indoor heated pool, a dog run, a nice gym, lots of open space, an arcade, a playroom for kids, a bowling alley and also a mini golf course.

They have free swimming arm tubes for babies.

Very nice gym, onsen, swimming pool, tennis courts and more.

Room and bathroom well equipped with nice view on lake and mountains.

Excellent world class hotel with many facilities, extensive grounds, impeccable service and a beautiful onsen.

We spent a full weekend with two kids and another family, and we were totally blown away by the great service and facilities.

This resort is equipped with spa pools and hot spring that I really enjoyed,

The property is massive and the building also is large with a hotel building and the fitness wing separate to it.

- really comfortable and enjoyable service in many ways starting from check in to check out, and thank you upgrade room and special section for breakfast area, for loyalty member,  especially very pleased on hiking trail as well as spa facilities.

Another member of a large group checking in with us tried to throw his considerable weight around, screaming about all his Hilton Honors points and threatening the staff.

Although the hotel name is Odawara, the nearest station is a short distance from Odawara Station, an unmanned station with a spectacular view of the ocean.From there, take the free shuttle bus up the mountain path to the hotel.The lobby is spacious,

After riding the beautiful RomanceCar train, there is a free shuttle provided by the Hilton,

There are free shuttle services for Nebukawa station as well.
