but still no call from reception to collect the lounge access card.

The hotel has line up of private taxis that charge 5 times the normal taximeter just in front of hotel, which is legitimate

My rating should have been between 4 and 5 if I hadn’t had such a negative surprise after my stay, finding out that my company credit card was skimmed here.

The room rate was over $800/night including breakfast which was an additional charge.

Then I was charged 80+ yuans at the end for me and my wife.

You need to be aware that its 5 star and the prices in the hotel are also 5 star i recently purchased a tea and smoothie for me and a friend and got charged around £20, so check before you buy.

Hotel needs some modernization for the rates they are charging.

Main problem is ofcourse the staff - for the money they charge for the rooms, they should be able to hire more competent people, who actually can speak english.

All was excellent other than a mistake on the billing which had to be adjusted after my departure.

but the organization failed checking-out when the invoices was only available after 9 am: unacceptable for an hotel dedicated to business trip

Also next night our card wouldn't work to get back into room.

It turned out that half of the food options advertised at different cooking stations were not available, most of the food was old and didn't look appealing so we had to ask for the manager and in the end they let us order from the menu and didn't charge us for dinner which we appreciate,

The second issue was for some reason my card would not read in the elevator to select my floor.

They charge for the Internet which is not stated when you log in to the wi -fi,

Cons: I'm a bit disappointed with some aspects of the service, during check out they wanted to charge me thus if mini-bar that didn't take, also at evening the cleaning staff is loudy outside the rooms.

Just dissapointed that they charged me a half day room because I checked in at 10.15 AM after a night flight - never experienced this in a Westin Hotel as a Gold SPG Member.

To protect your privacy, it isn't always easy to pay with an international credit card OFF-SITE.

The hotel location is okay, it’s far from downtown,

I have several friends staying at westin every canton fair and I used to stay in downtown due to the lower room rates and proximity restaurant and shopping malls.

You can easily get cabs downtown to bar street and other locations.

but the location was far away from downtown area.

Lastly, if you worry about the distance from this hotel in Pazhou to downtown (Tianhe or Zhujiang New Town), don't worry.

Location is perfect to attend local shows and 20 minutes by taxi from downtown.

Excellent location next to the Canton Fair and close to downtown.

if you want to go to downtown for eat .but if you participate the exhibition only , the westiin pazhou is your good choice

but subway station is only a 5 minute walk, and the price when no show is on more than makes up for a little travel time to the downtown.

The location was far away from downtown area and was very quiet with neither conferences nor fair going on.

Breakfast is decent, with a pretty wide range of items for you to choose from.The metro is about 10 minutes away

If your trip is solely leisure, might not be the best location since it takes about 15-30 minutes to get to downtown.

Just make sure you are not expecting to stay in downtown if you stay here!

Their teams have been excellent and they serve you with personal touch, not the kind of great 'cold' service with distance

But other than that on regular months, it’s quite a far distance from the usual touristy destinations like Tianhe, Beijing road pedestrian street etc.

Front desk service was good, no language distance even in English.

The air can be pretty choking on some days with heat, humidity, pollution and so much cigarette smoke, so consider that when looking at the distance to get anywhere on foot.

I must mention their PM shift leader Lyn has been the most experienced and impressive lounge staff I have ever met.

Staff in Executive Lounge are extremely welcoming and professional, especially Lyn and Tim, been very helpful to solve my problems and meet my needs proactively.

Lyn, Winnie, and the rest of the Club Lounge team are really helpful and can even help with the new QR code health requirements at check-in while you enjoy a glass at happy hour.

Lyn and Rania in the lounge provided exceptional service for check-in and check-out.

Westin Club Lounge view is amazing, staff are very attentive, especially Ruby and the team, breakfast and evening cocktail spread are amazing, thanks to Chef Stephen Yong.

I recently stayed at the westin hotel in guangzhou and during the 3 days I stayed there i was very well taken care of by the staff at the executive lounge .

The staff, especially Martha Ramirez in the lounge, and the amenities are great!

No food options for international travelers, only chinese and Japanese available (and only set dinner was available) serious cost cutting during my stay at the hotel.

The problem is that 95% of normal taxis i tried to hire with taximeter refuse to accept the normal taximeter price.

I booked with breakfast , since i wanted to sleep long on sunday morning i wanted to have the breakfast in the room , i told them i wanted to pay an extra fee for that .

Upon inquiry, I was told that I ordered an expensive type of tea.

Our main reason for staying at the Westin was that it caters for observant Jewish guests, with Chabad catered meals (paid privately), and a Shabbat elevator.

Breakfast expensive rmb250+ for a buffet.

I believe this is what sets a five star hotel from a major chain compared to some air BNB and Low costs chain that would probably just sweep your feedback under the carpet.

but perhaps I should pay a visit on the next occasion.

but prices are likely to skyrocket due to high occupancy.

If you reserve at a higher price the hotel cannot change the price for you.

The room was terribly expensive and didn't include breakfast.

Also, they have just renovated their restaurant in the Lobby which is also excellent.

Would recommend the Chn restaurant on the second floor.

but a la carte menu more reasonable and food always of a good standard.

but other restaurants offered excellent food, service and value.

Service and food is great at this hotel and Is prefect for me As I just wanted to fair , eat good food and get some rest.

but for veggans they can order from the Chinese menu.

5 Sense restaurant was a great surprise, we fully recommend it

Very good English and able to recommend a great restaurant!

Breakfasts are great and they have a wide selection of food (even in the Club Lounge).

Besides that bad experience I must say that the evening buffet in the ground floor restaurant is one of the most spectacular I have seen.

Later had room service after I finished all my emails and quality was very good.

Especially Chinese restaurant I'll come again next time when I come Guangzhou again.

this is a very 5 star hotel with amazing food and excellent service.

Generally speaking, it is good, with good attitude and yammy  food.

but a little crowded, If you early will be better, the room is also good,facilities, space,room service also nice，the overall experience is good, see you again next time.

The hotel location is convenient, the service is also great, all the staff could speak good English, so that's a plus.

We also had a problem with the service, they kept giving us rooms right near the elevator.

So  overall i am dissapointed with the service here .

but they are really slow and the don't get English.

2 hours to complete a normal diner solely because of slow service.

Travel through Guangzhou is slow going, even for a short distance.

3) The hot water flow is too slow and it takes more than 40 minutes to fill the bath tub.

The Internet speed at this hotel is something that needs to be improved as sometimes it is very slow and unstable.

The last big disappointment came from the IT departement, the Internet connection both in the room and lobby were slow and unstable, it made me think of Internet back in the 90s.

Internet is very slow and painful and deserves immediate overhaul as this is a business hotel.

In a few cases, service is slow and needs chasing.

The only two disadvateges, the slow elevator and lack of taxies.

But they worked very professionally and were passionate, patient and smiled all the time.

First of all, we thank you for the perfect service and providing delicious foods, which give us a deep impression for everything you done.

!Baked egg tart with nostoc and cheese soooooo nice, love ice cream puff served with lychee syrup and rice roll with shrimp too.

I was utterly astonished to be presented with a (delicious) cake celebrating our anniversary (we celebrated our anniversary at this hotel 4 or 5 years ago, and they remembered the date - amazing :)

Everything else is just perfect, from our (huge) comfortable room, swimming pools and food.

food and services are good, specially to Wing, Hannah and Freda, breakfast is sumptuous, evening cocktail has a extensive spread, I love the americano, staff take initiative to serve guests, meet and greet, I will definitely again.

There were many delicious restaurants besides the buffets as well.

Love the Shanghai-La experience and a highlight is always the breakfast buffet.

Breakfast buffet was massive and worth the cost.

The next day (Christmas day) we went for breakfast.

The Restaurant with buffet having a large range of Seafood, Juicy steaks and Asian dishes was superb

But hoping to see more variety of food for breakfast buffet .

Normally, breakfast buffet at hotel clubs are like an afterthought.

Wing, Elaine and everyone else in the club lounge offered their usual great service and we were surprised by an extremely good chocolate creation sent to our room by Linda.

The staff, particuarly Wing, Jocelyn and all the other staff in the club lounge made us feel very welcome.

In the club lounge, the staff always make us feel very welcome.

Shangri-La is still my first choice in Guangzhou, the staff are very friendly and check in was very smooth at the Horizon Club Lounge.

Special highlight Iris Wu at woktoo cafe and also Wing, Clark who at club lounge.

And, again as normal the staff in the club lounge went above and beyond in making our stay perfect. It's things like coffee being refilled in the morning without needing to ask - and during happy hour being offered bagels (several months ago I expressed my love of bagels and I think it is amazing that this has been remembered!)

First time at a Shangri-La and after the perfect service will look at others when i travel , room was just perfect , Sherry on reception made my stay very special , was always there to help and Tracy in the club Lounge was the perfect Host, Very Lucky to have such great staff.

We had access to the club lounge which has happy hour between 5.30 - 7.30pm, great buffet food and drinks.

Every day after exploring the city, I would unwind with a couple of beers and light dinner in The Club Lounge.

We will have no hesitation to come back again to such a wonderful hotel with such a good Club lounge.

All the normal parts of the hotel, exceptional staff, great food and drink in the club lounge etc were just as good as always.

The Horizon Club lounge is the best lounge i know from all hotels i do use.

The Eclipse Club Lounge is worth the extra financials.

Katherine in particular provided very attentive service in the club lounge.

This hotel is in adjacency to Guangzhou International Convention Centre.

Everyone loved it here, avoiding the convention cneter as much as one could.

Close to the river and convention centers, it’s a beautiful hotel with lush gardens and multiple pools.

I recently stayed at the Shangri-La Guangzhou for a week to attend a conference at the nearby convention center.

The Door staff helped us get Taxis to and from our Convention and nothing was an issue..
My wife and I are very Happy.

would highly recommend staying at this hotel especially if going to conference as its only a 5 to 8min walk to convention centre..

This is a very nice hotel with easy access to the local convention center.

I also had to insist on seeing her cross out the original room charge.

Hoping people won’t notice the second hold and pushing it through as a charge.

They wanted to charge no show fees, were unable to look up the correct email.

To our surprise, Ms Abbey Victoria give me birthday card and gift when I entered the room.

However I encountered unexpected problems with my visa on arrival at the airport and after a frustrating few hours, manage to be granted a transit visa which shortened my stay to just 1 night.

All the staff got to know us, pointed out what sort of fares taxis should be charging (as we found we were slightly ripped off arriving fro airport), and recommending restaurants in the city.

No roaming charges, so a big 
extra for guests.

Lunch at the Chinese restaurant was pretty good. Handy HDMI plug for plugging in your own device to the TV

Dislikes:
Bring a pool cap, they won't let you use pools without it, charge too much at desk
Overpriced drinks (one can soda was 40 RMB?)

The problem with this is that it creates a culture where the customer-facing staff are constantly asking guests to write a review on Tripadvisor, and I lost count of the number of times in just one week that one of the staff gave me a Shangri-La card with the Tripadvisor logo on it that they had written their name on.

This was actually night 3 of my stay in Guangzhou, the other 2 nights having been spent at a very disappointing 5-star across the river, charging over USD100+ per night more.

Credit goes to the F&B Director of the chain.

Check-in took 25 minutes, in Shanghai it was as simple as swiping a credit card.

And the taxis do not take credit cards, like they do in Beijing.
