However, there were no fans or aircon, and it was hot (we slept with windows open) and no facilities for tea or coffee in the room (or a mini fridge).

It could be hot and very stuffy in the summer because there is no air conditioner.

but the irritation was that anyone visiting the bathroom during the night and switching on the light lit up the entire bedroom in a way that was very unwelcome to the sleeping partner!

A fan in the room would have been a bit of a help.

There was no air conditioning so windows had to remain open at night.

but this didn't spoil our stay or cause us to be awake during the evening but as there was no air conditioning it did mean that we couldn't have the windows open some nights.

Rooms do not have air conditioning, so those at the back facing west get very hot

We stayed in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel, which as someone else pointed out can be very noisy due to road traffic and as there is no air conditioning extremely hot when we were there.

This room got the sun for most of the day and despite keeping the curtains closed and the windows open, the heat built up - some kind of fan would have been useful in the absence of air conditioning as it made sleep difficult.

Just two small things  -  there is no air-conditioning, which made things rather uncomfortable in the heatwave while we were there, and it would be nice to have a small fridge to keep our water cool.

The weather was very warm and the room would have benefited from air conditioning or a ceiling fan.

even though the standard rate is over €100 a night for B&B there is no air con.

It is near a busy main road and could be noisy so please ask for a quiet room further away from the road.

We normally sleep with a window open and because of the position of our room, we were right at the end near the swimming pool, we were disturbed by the noise from the busy main road.

The dining room was busy and the level of service was variable.

Secondly, one night, as we were staying up late waiting anxiously for news of our four year old niece undergoing surgery in the US, we tried to keep ourselves busy playing scrabble and cards.

The only downside is that the front of the hotel faces a busy road so you are much better booking a more expensive room overlooking the lake

At breakfast a number of items were not replenished even when the dining room was busy, which meant a lot of guests had to continually ask for them every morning.

Having just driven up from Lake Como where at the start of August all is quiet and boats,  bars and restaurants half empty the fact that Wolfgnagsee is so busy pays tribute indeed to the work of those who run hotels like this.

It was a busy weekend and may be a bad day for the Hollweger staff, definitely disappointing for me.

The lodge backs on to a busy main road and is very noisy.

Family run by Gerda Hollweger and her friendly and efficient family members and staff who mostly speak English very well, the rooms and facilities are very comfortable, well-equipped to a high standard and spotlessly clean.

Excellent and friendly staff who worked at this hotel, everyone from the receptionists, cleaners, to the waitering staff, all very friendly and could speak good English.

Conference guests not courteous to hotel guests

The hotel was quite empty, only few guests where hosted.

Although welcome by the hosts I think the main clientele probably are older people without children.

but hotel's clientele mostly pretty elderly and there is a hostility to kids you can feel.

The staff do not seem to care that their noise is disturbing guests.

This is galling when we are all paying guests!

Service from the head waitress was very poor as she was always rushing around and I saw her being rude to more than one guest.

Although there were half board and package guests this time I did not feel I was being treated as second class.

but the main course was the same for all Thomson and Ingham’s guests, so it must have been ready and waiting.

however I live in a rural village with little overnight noise, so for many other guests this presumably wouldn't be a problem.

but they were to busy realize that the door separating one part of the corridor from the main passage woke me up by its screaming noise each time it was moved during night and morning by maids, guests etc.

however some of the food combinations were a little strange and mainly catered for the German guests.

The lodge is reached by a fairly steep gravel path which is not ideal for older guests as it has a loose stone surface.

As tourists, and not 'big spenders', we were generally not afforded the same hospitality as that extended to others, particularly business guests.

but the hotel has a computer with internet access that it makes available to guests.

St Gilgen also offers a fast and efficient modern cable car up the Zwolferhorn mountain.

It was nice to see the owner of the hotel helping her staff with everything.

The team there make the atmosphere so welcoming.

Afternoon cake was a good addition The staff always helpful.

the staff from housekeeping restaurant staff and front desk are exemplary they are attentive and you feel they are pleased to be there which says a lot about how the management treat there staff well and it shows in the service given 
Breakfast and evening meal was high quality with so much to choose from 
The spa area is wonderful clean and relaxing and there own private beach for lake swimming is a very special place take a picnic and spend some time relaxing there the private sauna takes 1 euro coins and the changing rooms bathroom and shower were of a very high standard would we recommend yes definitely would we go again yes please

The service is first class, and a special thanks has to go to Eva Maria (Ott) who was so helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

We were greeted on our first evening with a free glass of Prosecco or fruit juice by Madame herself.

The restaurant service was inclined vary in its attentiveness - one evening we sat for 35 minutes between our starter and our main course - the waitress who said in passing "it's coming" might have offered an apology

Don't be put off by the "Austrian-ness" though, most of the staff speak excellent English and are very helpful.

The house seemed newly refurbished, all clean and nice, the staff were great, the breakfast was certainly worth the price with many choices for vegans, healthy breakfast, a more traditional one, hot and cold.

The tickets to Dachstein Ice caves were for 75€.

Finally,  during check-out he handed us small bottles of preserves which gave a very personal touch to our stay.

but comfortable, with little thoughtful touches on our arrival – Mozart chocolate balls on our bed and a bottle of water in the fridge.

On entering the room I found a Mozart Kugel chocolate at the side of the bed and a bottle of water on the desk.

Markus Eisl and his staff/family were welcoming and friendly.

Day 5 (Dachstein Ice caves) -  we took the bus to Bad Ischl.

Past many many years we visit austria , its very beautiful country, and st gilgen is our fevaret holiday place, and Hotel Schernthaner is our no 1 place to stay , everything is good about hotel, clean, ideal location , and most importan hotel owner , marcus Eisl and his family , is best host , very clean , specious rooms , very good break fast .

The host/owner greeted us on arrival and was very kind and helpful throughout our stay.

which was very-very helpful in the deciding factor.

We interacted only with Marcus, who could not have been more welcoming and hospitable.

The receptionist, Marcus and his mother run this place.

Anniliese was always smiling and cheerful.

I was greeted by name when I came in to register.

Room was very nice, owner was very hospitable.

On our arrival, we were given the warmest and friendliest welcoming possible by the owner and instantly made to feel right at home.

This is a wonderful old style hotel till you open your bedroom door then we are in 2022.

We really enjoyed our stay there, the only two things that annoyed us was a German speaking woman allowed her two children to run up and down the corridors and slammed the doors between 9 and 10pm on Monday night.

As well as the bed and storage, we had a seating area with sofa and table, an open plan bath and sink and then a separate shower and toilet (this area had a door).

The Christmas market was in full swing and started right outside their door, continuing down to the water.

Our room was on the side of the hotel on the second floor, we didn't find it noisy at all even with both doors open.

We were taken to and from the front door of the hotel by minibus.However some package tour operators expect you to convey your luggage to and from the bus station which on the your return means going   uphill for 150 yards which is not to be recommended if you are old or when it is raining.

Directly opposite is the shower and toilet which share a sliding glass door.

The bathroom was very open plan with just a glass sliding door to hide the loo.

The only strange/quirky part of the room was the clear glass door and partition to the bathroom.

Fortunately the toilet was in its one little room with door!

Staff were all very friendly and helpful and we would particularly like to thank the hotel for finding my husband's wedding ring, which he left behind in the room safe, and safely posting it to us back in the UK.

The next day at dinner we were joined at a nearby table by the builders still in their overalls who must be staying at the hotel and it gave it a premier inn type feel to the place.To be fair the hotel was clean the food good and the staff mostly friendly.

A beautifully modernised ancient inn, all the staff without exception were incredibly attentive and friendly, the bedrooms were large and very comfortable , the bathrooms were superb and very modern and the food was so absolutely delicious we ended up ended eating in the restaurant nearly every evening.

The previous review is fair concerning the German & Austrian guests, who are catered for a little more than the Brits

but it was also highlighted by a couple of other British guests who felt the same.

however we felt that the management were more interested in other guests as opposed to us.

We also saw some non resident guests eventually walk out after being seated

If you are used to Austrian holidays where a guest card gets you free or reduced prices on the local transport you must be prepared for higher prices round Lake Wolfgang.

but nowhere for guests to sit, again we found this very odd.

They were willing to lose custom and income as they were so concerned about how the guests would be affected.

Not too many guests are half board - about a third of the tables seemed to be for this whilst we were there.

though I felt a definite division between package tour guests and self-booked guests/locals.

On our last night some hotel guests were served champagne.

but were told they were locals and walked there with their dogs and out of the tourist season they were their only clients,  One night there were nine dogs in, including two really huge ones.

but the room on to the street is very noisy especially as there is no Airconditioning so you need the window open.

but it's only a small village so it wasn't too much of a concern even with the windows open.

The also seemed to be a lack if air - conditioning and had to open the windows during the evening.

Austria does get warm in the summer so your choice is to sleep with the windows open (but in our case, our back windows (room #103) were near the kitchen's exhaust vent) or keep them shut.

but be aware of noise from the Village Square and the hotel's own restaurant if you sleep with the windows open (which we did as the weather was sweltering.)

The room was over one of the main roads through St Gilgen, we couldn’t leave the window open due to traffic noise,

The elderly elegant lady in dirndl was so elegant looking, we could look at her all day, beautiful and her sweet perfume smell !!

The waiters spoke much better English than I did German which was helpful.

The service was timely and attentive and the food was excellent.

Lovely hotel in a lovely area of Austria, been wanting to go to St Gilgen for some time finally got there and chose the perfect hotel, breakfast 7.30 - 10 really flexible and evening meals excellent and varied, all the staff very attentive, the whole area and hotel made a big impression on us, 5 mins to the lake and the same to the cable car and the 150 bus into Salzburg, Marvellous.

The staff are extremely efficient and polite.

We wanted to go on a hike up the nearby mountain and the desk manager insisted we borrow her trecking poles. .

It's family run and the staff are just excellent and they are a happy staff.

The view from our window was like a chocolate box: the Rathaus, Mozart statue and other attractive buildings; there was some noise from visitors taking photos outside,

The one jarring note is the weird feature of many modern hotel bathrooms of a window between the sleeping area and the bathroom.

however the lounge area consisted of 2 window seats.

The curtains were too narrow for the window, so we had a stream of light in the room!

We had slightly cold weather so the water was freezing,

If they installed air conditioning and window screens, it would be all the difference in the world and they would deserve a 5+ rating.

The only slight blot are a lack of air conditioning in the room and no mini fridge either.

The rooms had no air conditioning, no fans and no screens on the windows.

Although I'm not a fan of roast beef, this dish is mouthwateringly delectable and I did order it several times to make sure!

Waiters and waitresses are so friendly and eager to help you anytime.

Last year for health reasons we had to cancel, so we are particularly looking forward to returning for a week early in June and again meeting Family Ebner and their friendly helpful staff.

Wolfgangsee (lake) was crystal blue and so clean, bordered by mountains (which we woke up to!).

We woke up with bites and welts during the night.

I barely slept for 5 nights and was exhausted by the time we left.

The food is excellent and our rooms, in the main building, were exceptionally comfortable with big balconies overlooking the lake.

The staff was very kind and always helped us out.

The environment and Ebner family were warm and welcoming, the room cozy and sooo relaxing!

The hotel is well maintained, the staff is clearly trained and experienced, the food is tasty, and the amenities - bikes, boats, etc.

The restaurant with staff that have lots of initiative is a winner.

- Service was the metric by which the staff and the management set up and ran the hotel by.

Half of us walked from St Wolfgang over the mountain and the other half from St Gilgen around the lake, so we felt we deserved our lunch - and it was gorgeous Wonderful food, wonderful staff, wonderful view, well worth the boat trip or walk.

The staff was exceptional and the grounds were immaculate.
