The tickets to Dachstein Ice caves were for 75€.

Finally,  during check-out he handed us small bottles of preserves which gave a very personal touch to our stay.

but comfortable, with little thoughtful touches on our arrival – Mozart chocolate balls on our bed and a bottle of water in the fridge.

On entering the room I found a Mozart Kugel chocolate at the side of the bed and a bottle of water on the desk.

Day 5 (Dachstein Ice caves) -  we took the bus to Bad Ischl.

The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast buffet very good.

Rooms are clean and there is free breakfast every morning.

Our room was clean , well equiped with enough space.

The hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean and Anneliese was the perfect hostess.She was very professional and went out of her way to ensure we had everything that we needed.I loved her personal welcome card on the breakfast table on our first morning.

This is a wonderful old style hotel till you open your bedroom door then we are in 2022.

We really enjoyed our stay there, the only two things that annoyed us was a German speaking woman allowed her two children to run up and down the corridors and slammed the doors between 9 and 10pm on Monday night.

As well as the bed and storage, we had a seating area with sofa and table, an open plan bath and sink and then a separate shower and toilet (this area had a door).

The Christmas market was in full swing and started right outside their door, continuing down to the water.

Our room was on the side of the hotel on the second floor, we didn't find it noisy at all even with both doors open.

We were taken to and from the front door of the hotel by minibus.However some package tour operators expect you to convey your luggage to and from the bus station which on the your return means going   uphill for 150 yards which is not to be recommended if you are old or when it is raining.

Directly opposite is the shower and toilet which share a sliding glass door.

The bathroom was very open plan with just a glass sliding door to hide the loo.

The only strange/quirky part of the room was the clear glass door and partition to the bathroom.

Fortunately the toilet was in its one little room with door!

The only thing I think the hotel lacks is a separate guest’s lounge area where you could relax with a coffee or drink.

The previous review is fair concerning the German & Austrian guests, who are catered for a little more than the Brits

but it was also highlighted by a couple of other British guests who felt the same.

however we felt that the management were more interested in other guests as opposed to us.

We also saw some non resident guests eventually walk out after being seated

If you are used to Austrian holidays where a guest card gets you free or reduced prices on the local transport you must be prepared for higher prices round Lake Wolfgang.

but nowhere for guests to sit, again we found this very odd.

They were willing to lose custom and income as they were so concerned about how the guests would be affected.

Not too many guests are half board - about a third of the tables seemed to be for this whilst we were there.

though I felt a definite division between package tour guests and self-booked guests/locals.

On our last night some hotel guests were served champagne.

but were told they were locals and walked there with their dogs and out of the tourist season they were their only clients,  One night there were nine dogs in, including two really huge ones.

but the room on to the street is very noisy especially as there is no Airconditioning so you need the window open.

but it's only a small village so it wasn't too much of a concern even with the windows open.

The also seemed to be a lack if air - conditioning and had to open the windows during the evening.

Austria does get warm in the summer so your choice is to sleep with the windows open (but in our case, our back windows (room #103) were near the kitchen's exhaust vent) or keep them shut.

but be aware of noise from the Village Square and the hotel's own restaurant if you sleep with the windows open (which we did as the weather was sweltering.)

The room was over one of the main roads through St Gilgen, we couldn’t leave the window open due to traffic noise,

What a wonderful and relaxing stay all made possible by amazing food and service from a very attentive and friendly staff who always had a smile on their face and kind word to say say .The hotel rooms we had were clean and spacious .We can highly recommend this hotel and  I would return without hesitation.

The one jarring note is the weird feature of many modern hotel bathrooms of a window between the sleeping area and the bathroom.

however the lounge area consisted of 2 window seats.

The curtains were too narrow for the window, so we had a stream of light in the room!

However, there were no fans or aircon, and it was hot (we slept with windows open) and no facilities for tea or coffee in the room (or a mini fridge).

It could be hot and very stuffy in the summer because there is no air conditioner.

but the irritation was that anyone visiting the bathroom during the night and switching on the light lit up the entire bedroom in a way that was very unwelcome to the sleeping partner!

A fan in the room would have been a bit of a help.

There was no air conditioning so windows had to remain open at night.

but this didn't spoil our stay or cause us to be awake during the evening but as there was no air conditioning it did mean that we couldn't have the windows open some nights.

We stayed in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel, which as someone else pointed out can be very noisy due to road traffic and as there is no air conditioning extremely hot when we were there.

This room got the sun for most of the day and despite keeping the curtains closed and the windows open, the heat built up - some kind of fan would have been useful in the absence of air conditioning as it made sleep difficult.

Just two small things  -  there is no air-conditioning, which made things rather uncomfortable in the heatwave while we were there, and it would be nice to have a small fridge to keep our water cool.

The weather was very warm and the room would have benefited from air conditioning or a ceiling fan.

even though the standard rate is over €100 a night for B&B there is no air con.

It is near a busy main road and could be noisy so please ask for a quiet room further away from the road.

We normally sleep with a window open and because of the position of our room, we were right at the end near the swimming pool, we were disturbed by the noise from the busy main road.

The dining room was busy and the level of service was variable.

Secondly, one night, as we were staying up late waiting anxiously for news of our four year old niece undergoing surgery in the US, we tried to keep ourselves busy playing scrabble and cards.

The only downside is that the front of the hotel faces a busy road so you are much better booking a more expensive room overlooking the lake

At breakfast a number of items were not replenished even when the dining room was busy, which meant a lot of guests had to continually ask for them every morning.

Having just driven up from Lake Como where at the start of August all is quiet and boats,  bars and restaurants half empty the fact that Wolfgnagsee is so busy pays tribute indeed to the work of those who run hotels like this.

It was a busy weekend and may be a bad day for the Hollweger staff, definitely disappointing for me.

The lodge backs on to a busy main road and is very noisy.

Conference guests not courteous to hotel guests

The hotel was quite empty, only few guests where hosted.

Although welcome by the hosts I think the main clientele probably are older people without children.

but hotel's clientele mostly pretty elderly and there is a hostility to kids you can feel.

The staff do not seem to care that their noise is disturbing guests.

This is galling when we are all paying guests!

Service from the head waitress was very poor as she was always rushing around and I saw her being rude to more than one guest.

Although there were half board and package guests this time I did not feel I was being treated as second class.

but the main course was the same for all Thomson and Ingham’s guests, so it must have been ready and waiting.

however I live in a rural village with little overnight noise, so for many other guests this presumably wouldn't be a problem.

but they were to busy realize that the door separating one part of the corridor from the main passage woke me up by its screaming noise each time it was moved during night and morning by maids, guests etc.

however some of the food combinations were a little strange and mainly catered for the German guests.

The lodge is reached by a fairly steep gravel path which is not ideal for older guests as it has a loose stone surface.

As tourists, and not 'big spenders', we were generally not afforded the same hospitality as that extended to others, particularly business guests.

but the hotel has a computer with internet access that it makes available to guests.

The room was kept clean and tidy (although a fridge would have been a great help) and the staff were so helpful and friendly.

This hotel is friendly and comfortable.We had a large room with a balcony overlooking the lake and it was ideal - plenty of room and spotlessly clean.

The room was spotless, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom enormous.We had booked half board with Inghams and while the evening meals were wonderful for meat eaters, as vegetarians we found thechoice rather limited and somewhat on the " heavy" side.

The rooms are spotless, the staff are so helpful and approachable and the food is excellent.

We sleep with white noise and still the traffic was loud.

I could hear the guest in the room next door using the loo and washing.

No shampoo or Conditioner.The Sound of Music was filmed in Salzburg Austria.

but you have to take into account that this is also the local pub so at weekends you will get a little noise sometimes into the early hours and if you don't like smoking, the bar downstairs can seem a bit overwhelmed by smog.

The second night was even louder and worse than the first night.

The rooms were very clean and the beds very comfy.

Our rooms were clean and tidy and there is plenty parking.

We were upgraded to 2 lovely rooms which were clean and comfy and faced the woods.

A downside was that the bar also appeared to be the smoking area and the staff smoked.

Walls have dents in them, the plastic chairs on the balcony ( I use that word loosely) were covered in mildew.

On Saturday night, the entire place smelled like cigarette smoke, including our room that was 2 stories up from the bar/hotel.

Some comment has been made about the smoking in the dining area.

Our only minor complaint was the smoke that wafted up from outside.

The rooms were small, not a lot of space to move around, tripping over our luggage, no bar fridge, bathrooms small.

As we had to book late, we started out with a few days in the more expensive rooms, which were lovely, so - having got a bit spoilt - we found the cheaper rooms somewhat cramped.

The only small drawback was having no proper shutters or heavy curtains to keep the light out in the mornings.

The room was very clean the bed was comfortable.

We further would like to thank and to mention the rest of the staff that were busy on a daily base, to clean our room and to make it neat ,tidy and cosy.

The rooms are clean and warm and cozy, the breakfast was delicious, service was outstanding as they went out of their way to help and accommodate every need!

The view from our room and the breakfast room is no less than breathtaking.

This is not a mask that you can buy in the store.

The manager, while not admitting any fault, allowed us to cancel our 3rd night and pay only half price for the first 2 nights.

And the manager was very unwelcoming with a very unfriendly behavior.

but the staff (and management) really need to sort it out as a matter of urgency.

Management was clearly lacking and perhaps this explained the bizarre treatment we experienced.

Since their Manager, Peter and his wife, left two years ago, it has not been the same.

First night buffet dinner the food was extremely poor.

Evening meals are poor,no salad bar you get what you are given, main course is either fish, vegetarian or meat dish if you do not like what is on offer tough.

but no minibar, weak wifi and shower not bath.

No minibar in the room, and not a single drinking glass, the wifi functioned slow and not always.

We could only get Wifi in one corner of the hotel, and even then it was spotty at best.

Only Wi-Fi in the lobby so everyone was in there on a night.

The only downside, if you can call it that, is that you cannot get WiFi in the bedrooms only in the lounge downstairs.

A bit noisy due to the proximity of the main road crossing the city center

We were given a better room due to a problem with the water pipes.

Beds were comfortable, all was working and room was very clean.

Nice clean rooms with most of the rooms having a balcony.

The rooms were clean, the hotel was well kept, and the family running the hotel was very friendly and helpful.

I am still staying here and sitting in the balcony, I am constrained to write this review as smaller places like this need constant reviews to attract tourists.

Unfortunately, I was not feeling well on this trip, which meant we didn't get to do the touristy things that we had planned.

as is really good to open the external door of the room and to hear the soud of the water running in the river, in front of the hotel.

We enjoyed our vacation in St Gilgelm mostly because of this hotel. We were not so lucky with the weather on the end of March 2013 so instead of hiking beautifull nearby mountains we were running a marathon between nearby restaurants, shops and our hotel : )

but sorely in need of a fan in the absence of air-conditioning in the scorching July summer.

We had slightly cold weather so the water was freezing,

If they installed air conditioning and window screens, it would be all the difference in the world and they would deserve a 5+ rating.

The only slight blot are a lack of air conditioning in the room and no mini fridge either.

The rooms had no air conditioning, no fans and no screens on the windows.

Although I'm not a fan of roast beef, this dish is mouthwateringly delectable and I did order it several times to make sure!

We also enjoyed the meticulously selected decorations of the rooms and obviously spotless cleanliness with a pitoresque view on the Wolfgangsee.

Spotless rooms, wonderful food &  hard working and friendly staff, who could all speak good English.

Wolfgangsee (lake) was crystal blue and so clean, bordered by mountains (which we woke up to!).

We woke up with bites and welts during the night.

I barely slept for 5 nights and was exhausted by the time we left.

but felt as if they were because they opened through big glass doors and windows onto the flower decorated balcony.

My only (mild) discomforts come from the not-wonderful water pressure, no facial tissues in the room, and the tiny slip of soap provided.

The room was clean and attractively furnished with a good view over the lake.
