However, there were no fans or aircon, and it was hot (we slept with windows open) and no facilities for tea or coffee in the room (or a mini fridge).

It could be hot and very stuffy in the summer because there is no air conditioner.

but the irritation was that anyone visiting the bathroom during the night and switching on the light lit up the entire bedroom in a way that was very unwelcome to the sleeping partner!

A fan in the room would have been a bit of a help.

There was no air conditioning so windows had to remain open at night.

but this didn't spoil our stay or cause us to be awake during the evening but as there was no air conditioning it did mean that we couldn't have the windows open some nights.

We stayed in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel, which as someone else pointed out can be very noisy due to road traffic and as there is no air conditioning extremely hot when we were there.

This room got the sun for most of the day and despite keeping the curtains closed and the windows open, the heat built up - some kind of fan would have been useful in the absence of air conditioning as it made sleep difficult.

Just two small things  -  there is no air-conditioning, which made things rather uncomfortable in the heatwave while we were there, and it would be nice to have a small fridge to keep our water cool.

The weather was very warm and the room would have benefited from air conditioning or a ceiling fan.

even though the standard rate is over €100 a night for B&B there is no air con.

A large buffet breakfast is included with room stay and there is a superb nightly buffet offering as well as an a la carte option.

The food was great with wide choice at breakfast.

the staff from housekeeping restaurant staff and front desk are exemplary they are attentive and you feel they are pleased to be there which says a lot about how the management treat there staff well and it shows in the service given

The buffet breakfasts and dinners were a feast, with so many choices to be had.

A wonderful breakfast is included if you book directly with the hotel (This is extra with 3rd party sites such as Booking.com) and evening meals are excellent too.

The house seemed newly refurbished, all clean and nice, the staff were great, the breakfast was certainly worth the price with many choices for vegans, healthy breakfast, a more traditional one, hot and cold.

The evening meal was pre chosen at breakfast and was usually aperitifs and starters from the buffet bar followed by a main of either meat, fish or a vegetarian option.

It is near a busy main road and could be noisy so please ask for a quiet room further away from the road.

We normally sleep with a window open and because of the position of our room, we were right at the end near the swimming pool, we were disturbed by the noise from the busy main road.

The dining room was busy and the level of service was variable.

Secondly, one night, as we were staying up late waiting anxiously for news of our four year old niece undergoing surgery in the US, we tried to keep ourselves busy playing scrabble and cards.

The only downside is that the front of the hotel faces a busy road so you are much better booking a more expensive room overlooking the lake

At breakfast a number of items were not replenished even when the dining room was busy, which meant a lot of guests had to continually ask for them every morning.

Having just driven up from Lake Como where at the start of August all is quiet and boats,  bars and restaurants half empty the fact that Wolfgnagsee is so busy pays tribute indeed to the work of those who run hotels like this.

It was a busy weekend and may be a bad day for the Hollweger staff, definitely disappointing for me.

The lodge backs on to a busy main road and is very noisy.

The hotel was quite empty, only few guests where hosted.

Although welcome by the hosts I think the main clientele probably are older people without children.

but hotel's clientele mostly pretty elderly and there is a hostility to kids you can feel.

The staff do not seem to care that their noise is disturbing guests.

This is galling when we are all paying guests!

Service from the head waitress was very poor as she was always rushing around and I saw her being rude to more than one guest.

Although there were half board and package guests this time I did not feel I was being treated as second class.

but the main course was the same for all Thomson and Ingham’s guests, so it must have been ready and waiting.

however I live in a rural village with little overnight noise, so for many other guests this presumably wouldn't be a problem.

but they were to busy realize that the door separating one part of the corridor from the main passage woke me up by its screaming noise each time it was moved during night and morning by maids, guests etc.

however some of the food combinations were a little strange and mainly catered for the German guests.

The lodge is reached by a fairly steep gravel path which is not ideal for older guests as it has a loose stone surface.

As tourists, and not 'big spenders', we were generally not afforded the same hospitality as that extended to others, particularly business guests.

but the hotel has a computer with internet access that it makes available to guests.

The tickets to Dachstein Ice caves were for 75€.

Finally,  during check-out he handed us small bottles of preserves which gave a very personal touch to our stay.

but comfortable, with little thoughtful touches on our arrival – Mozart chocolate balls on our bed and a bottle of water in the fridge.

On entering the room I found a Mozart Kugel chocolate at the side of the bed and a bottle of water on the desk.

The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast buffet very good.

The breakfast was amazing, homemade cake and plenty of lovely breads, meats, cheeses etc.

The delicious breakfast on offer was above-average European continental and served in the charming breakfast room.

They even served one of my childhood favorites, battered apple rings.

Everything is personal, from check-in to breakfast, the family knows you by name.

Breakfast has both hot and cold choices which are all fresh.

Breakfast was good and Anneliese and Marcus went out of their way to ensure we had all the information we needed to ensure a perfect stay.

Lovely hotel in a lovely area of Austria, been wanting to go to St Gilgen for some time finally got there and chose the perfect hotel, breakfast 7.30 - 10 really flexible and evening meals excellent and varied, all the staff very attentive, the whole area and hotel made a big impression on us, 5 mins to the lake and the same to the cable car and the 150 bus into Salzburg, Marvellous.

We had our meals (both breakfast and evening meal) at the front of the hotel in the conservatory.

Breakfasts were normal continental European, with a nice selection, particularly the fresh fruit; you could also order eggs done the way you wanted.

The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was great.

Breakfast was good, you can order eggs of your choice.

Everything went well from start to finish.Transfer from the airport in Salzburg to the hotel was perfect.Reception at the hotel was excellent.The room was good, breakfast was superb and the 4 course dinner was excellent.A different menu each evening and you ordered the main course at breakfast.

We had booked bed, breakfast and evening meal; breakfast varied continental buffet style with large choice; evening meal 4 course with choices available, and in 14 days the menu was not repeated.

With dinner (Matjesfilet, schnitzels, pudding, beer, Gruner Veltliner wine) and a generous buffet breakfast (with eggs cooked as you wanted), the bill was about Euros 150 each.

Breakfast was self service with lots of fruit, breads, yoghurt etc.

Stephanie prepared the sunny side up eggs just the way Laura wanted it.

The breakfast every morning was also very good as well and it was a great way to start the day.

A beautifully modernised ancient inn, all the staff without exception were incredibly attentive and friendly, the bedrooms were large and very comfortable , the bathrooms were superb and very modern and the food was so absolutely delicious we ended up ended eating in the restaurant nearly every evening.

This is a wonderful old style hotel till you open your bedroom door then we are in 2022.

We really enjoyed our stay there, the only two things that annoyed us was a German speaking woman allowed her two children to run up and down the corridors and slammed the doors between 9 and 10pm on Monday night.

As well as the bed and storage, we had a seating area with sofa and table, an open plan bath and sink and then a separate shower and toilet (this area had a door).

The Christmas market was in full swing and started right outside their door, continuing down to the water.

Our room was on the side of the hotel on the second floor, we didn't find it noisy at all even with both doors open.

We were taken to and from the front door of the hotel by minibus.However some package tour operators expect you to convey your luggage to and from the bus station which on the your return means going   uphill for 150 yards which is not to be recommended if you are old or when it is raining.

Directly opposite is the shower and toilet which share a sliding glass door.

The bathroom was very open plan with just a glass sliding door to hide the loo.

The only strange/quirky part of the room was the clear glass door and partition to the bathroom.

Fortunately the toilet was in its one little room with door!

The only thing I think the hotel lacks is a separate guest’s lounge area where you could relax with a coffee or drink.

The previous review is fair concerning the German & Austrian guests, who are catered for a little more than the Brits

but it was also highlighted by a couple of other British guests who felt the same.

however we felt that the management were more interested in other guests as opposed to us.

We also saw some non resident guests eventually walk out after being seated

If you are used to Austrian holidays where a guest card gets you free or reduced prices on the local transport you must be prepared for higher prices round Lake Wolfgang.

but nowhere for guests to sit, again we found this very odd.

They were willing to lose custom and income as they were so concerned about how the guests would be affected.

Not too many guests are half board - about a third of the tables seemed to be for this whilst we were there.

though I felt a definite division between package tour guests and self-booked guests/locals.

On our last night some hotel guests were served champagne.

but were told they were locals and walked there with their dogs and out of the tourist season they were their only clients,  One night there were nine dogs in, including two really huge ones.

but the room on to the street is very noisy especially as there is no Airconditioning so you need the window open.

but it's only a small village so it wasn't too much of a concern even with the windows open.

The also seemed to be a lack if air - conditioning and had to open the windows during the evening.

Austria does get warm in the summer so your choice is to sleep with the windows open (but in our case, our back windows (room #103) were near the kitchen's exhaust vent) or keep them shut.

but be aware of noise from the Village Square and the hotel's own restaurant if you sleep with the windows open (which we did as the weather was sweltering.)

The room was over one of the main roads through St Gilgen, we couldn’t leave the window open due to traffic noise,

The view from our window was like a chocolate box: the Rathaus, Mozart statue and other attractive buildings; there was some noise from visitors taking photos outside,

The one jarring note is the weird feature of many modern hotel bathrooms of a window between the sleeping area and the bathroom.

however the lounge area consisted of 2 window seats.

The curtains were too narrow for the window, so we had a stream of light in the room!

but sorely in need of a fan in the absence of air-conditioning in the scorching July summer.

We had slightly cold weather so the water was freezing,

If they installed air conditioning and window screens, it would be all the difference in the world and they would deserve a 5+ rating.

The only slight blot are a lack of air conditioning in the room and no mini fridge either.

The rooms had no air conditioning, no fans and no screens on the windows.

Although I'm not a fan of roast beef, this dish is mouthwateringly delectable and I did order it several times to make sure!

Fantastic breakfast spread; gorgeous dining room.

As ever the breakfast is the best of anywhere we have stayed, and we’ve been around a bit.

The breakfast (included) was outstanding - anything you could imagine, home made cheese, pastries, etc.

Excellent and very rich breakfast including vegan food and juice extractor.

Breakfast was rich, with many choices and full of local tasty products.

The in-house breakfast each morning was divine.

I liked the juice extractor and lovely cups & saucers at breakfast.

There were free bikes to ride along the lake trail, there were free boats to paddle along the lake, there were swans, fish, and ducks galore who seemed well accustomed to bread feeding guests.

All staffs were very friendly and kind, and the breakfast was great.

The breakfast is tasty and the dinners are worth it.

Breakfast is expansive, even with a pile of fresh vegetables and a "do it yourself" juicer.

The waiter kindly gave us some recommendations as to what to have and it was delicious!

Mrs Ebner, the owner with her husband, excels in the kitchen and continually provides delicious and innovative food; the local Reinanke is caught from the lake everyday,

Wolfgangsee (lake) was crystal blue and so clean, bordered by mountains (which we woke up to!).

We woke up with bites and welts during the night.

I barely slept for 5 nights and was exhausted by the time we left.

but felt as if they were because they opened through big glass doors and windows onto the flower decorated balcony.

The breakfast was also very good and we had a nice buffet lunch.

The food was delicious and the  rooms extremely comfortable.

We found the staff so helpful and friendly from the ladies at breakfast time to the waiters and waitresses in the evening.

The 4 stars is for the view, the room and breakfast on the terrace.

Breakfast is good with a range of continental items and if you ask you can get eggs.

Egg dishes were available for the asking at breakfast.

and the Team deserve huge thanks and kudos for going the extra mile and being so warm, professional and helpful - shirts ironed to perfection in a flash, driving me to the port in time to catch the boat, presenting me with salt from the mine and lovely hand made soap - plus a delicious breakfast including pre-peeled vegetables for you to juice - bliss!

Breakfast is typically an Austrian menu with made to orders eggs and omelettes upon request.

The breakfast, if possible on the big terrace with fantastic view, was not big,

At breakfast time we were unsure where to sit and asked if we could sit on the terrace.

Food (at dinner, breakfast was questionable) was delicious.

The breakfast was excellent and so was the service.

Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious, dinner was tasty, wholesome and with plenty of choice.

We paid much less at other hotels, with more amenities, better breakfast, great Wifi, totally hospitable staff, etc. etc.

The manager, while not admitting any fault, allowed us to cancel our 3rd night and pay only half price for the first 2 nights.

And the manager was very unwelcoming with a very unfriendly behavior.

but the staff (and management) really need to sort it out as a matter of urgency.

Management was clearly lacking and perhaps this explained the bizarre treatment we experienced.

Since their Manager, Peter and his wife, left two years ago, it has not been the same.

First night buffet dinner the food was extremely poor.

Evening meals are poor,no salad bar you get what you are given, main course is either fish, vegetarian or meat dish if you do not like what is on offer tough.

but no minibar, weak wifi and shower not bath.

No minibar in the room, and not a single drinking glass, the wifi functioned slow and not always.

We could only get Wifi in one corner of the hotel, and even then it was spotty at best.

Only Wi-Fi in the lobby so everyone was in there on a night.

The only downside, if you can call it that, is that you cannot get WiFi in the bedrooms only in the lounge downstairs.
