We would have been happier if there was air conditioning in the rooms (travelled with another couple).

There was no air conditioning in the room and it was very hot.

There were a couple of small minor points, our room did not have aircon like most Austrian hotels so was quite uncomfortable in the heat,

It's a corner unit which faces the lake on one side and the unused dock on the other.

One of the only places I've ever been to where one can pay upwards of $500 a night and still sleep in sweltering conditions.

I would start with a caveat that it isn't perfect and if it was it probably would be too stuffy for us.

First, our room didn't have air conditioning or fun for the hot days.

Various reasons were suggested and ultimately we were given a noisy fan to use.

We obviously survived the night with no A/C and it was fixed the next morning.

The only unpleasant point was that the central heating remained completely cold during all 3 days.

They also allowed room ventilation which is important given the lack of a/c.

but unfortunately there was maintenance work ongoing in the block and the heating wasn't working.

Also, it was hot when we were there and no screens, no AC meant bugs came in with the open window - shutting it was too stuffy to sleep. As usual in this area, bring your own shampoo and conditioner as they do not provide any - just the "body and hair soap."

The lake room had eaves type structures with furniture cleverly placed and when the balcony could not be used made the room rather small, the bathroom was very small (fans did not work) and not suitable for people above average size.

The only thing you can do is ask for a fan.

One thing these hotels are not equipped with is that they do not have aircondition or fans.

There is no air conditioning which can make for hot rooms.

no steam, just not so hot towels to open up the pores, the "microdermabrasion" was not really effective, with the thinly applied 10-12 minute mask I was left alone for 20 minutes, so that the skin really felt dried up and when she asked if she should correct the eye-brows, she did not mention that 8 euros would be charged on top.

As mentioned, the corridor outside reeked of damp, and the room was only habitable by keeping the window open and using an electric fan.

The shower area was like a grotto with twinkling lights in the ceiling and three options of cooling off(shower, plunge, mist).

The breakfast consisted of a buffet and you are well looked after, the chef made omelettes were our favorite!

We enjoyed a beatyfull accomodation in cousy room, large spa and great breakfasts and dinners.

Stayed for our usual annual holiday in January and the hotel is as good as ever and the food was excellent both breakfast and dinner.

We had 3 nights here and it was lovely. Beautiful hotel, excellent service, the best breakfast I have ever had (especially Sunday!)

Excellent experience, cleanliness is second to none, hotel staff are so polite, helpful and professional.They speak perfect English as well as German.The spa is perfection, outside heated pool, and heated jacuzzi are amazing, The hotel is perfectly situated in an outstanding area at Wolfgangsee, with a panoramic views of the mountains and the lake.Cuisine experience is a winner, fresh ingredients and professional chefs, made The Whole experience unforgettable.

The choice of food at the breakfast buffet is staggering and with the chef preparing omelettes, eggs etc with such panache breakfast is a pleasure.

Special mention to Tim in the restaurant, nothing was too much trouble and he remembered us each morning for breakfast and evening meal.

Breakfast was good with lots of pics options, great drinks, a lovely dinner.

What a delight she was to have care for us at our champagne breakfast on the Sunday.

The owner is a friendly host meeting and greeting a champagne breakfast on Sunday mornings with piano music been played in the restaurant there is also a cocktail hour prior to dinner one evening again hosted by the owner.

.and, of course, the breakfast buffet is the BEST.

The breakfast choices absolutely superb, including made to order omelettes, fried eggs etc.

We always stay half board and the quality of food at both breakfast and dinner are of a very high standard.

We recently returned from our 14 night stay 6/1/18 - 20/1/18 and is as good as ever with excellent food (especially breakfast) and attentive service throughout making it as usual a relaxing and very enjoyable holiday.

Another thing that made the experience outstanding is the great food we had in both dinner and breakfast.

This hotel comes VERY highly recommended, several Austrian friends raved about it, and the elderly couple sitting next to us at breakfast one day told us that this was their 10th stay!

The service was exceptional from the minute we entered to the moment we left, we had booked breakfast and evening meal both of which were top notch, the breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice and the evening meal was 5 courses off the menu.

Well located and pretty easy to get about without needing a car, we managed Hallstatt and Salzburg easily.

The friendly front staff will guide in full details using a map where your room is located and where you can park your car.

From the minute we drew up in our car we were looked after by the efficient, friendly and oh so helpful staff. Our room (50 again!)

I was taken rather than just directed to a garage where I could park the car.

At the end of the stay the car and luggage were again efficiently organised.

We travelled to St.Wolfgang by car and had a parking space assigned to us behind the apartment.

Whilst we parked the car in their secure car park (about 7 minutes walk away) our cases had been taken to our room (46).

+ Mr. Hans, who was both helpful in carrying the luggage and parking the car.

Some staff are extremely professional and warm such as Doris, Martin and an old staff who took great care of getting our car and helping us with bags.

Singles are usually consigned  to a broom cupboard with a view of the trash cans and car park - not here.

Parking is available at a cost and a car is needed.

Examples: park your own car in the garage, blocks away, rain or sunshine.

You have to use the car park at the other end of the tunnel and walk back.

They have an outside floating pool anchored in the lake, 15 meters long, heated at 30 degrees- great fun to swim.

St Wolfgang is really lovely - we watched the band that played in front of the hotel 3 times during our stay and took part in the local food and drink evening that was on whilst we were there which was great fun.

All was going very well until the last two nights of our stay which focused on extremely poor service from the restaurant.

but I'm afraid the choice of food on offer left a lot to be desired, particularly the breakfast which we considered to be very poor.I'm afraid I would not recommend this hotel as poor value for money, it does have however a wonderful position in the centre of St Wolfgang with wonderful views of the lake.

but the rooms are poor and old and the bed is not comfortable for 320-420 euro per night.

It also had a poor view of the lake despite having booked a lake view room at extra cost.

Wi-Fi connection I found to be surprisingly poor with online video unwatchable.

Don't be put off by poor English translations on the website.

Sleep quality was poor due to the windows having woefully inadequate blinds.

We didn't have poor service; rather there was no service.

The buffet style for most of the week was poor in choice, slow to be replenished and sometimes not at all.

Outside main meal times, the offering is appallingly poor – a choice of a 14 Euro club sandwich, or a cheese toastie or two thin frankfurters and a slice of bread. Disgraceful.

but service was very poor as in general was all the staff at front desk and the snobby owners.

In the 7 nights we were there, the meat course was 'boiled beef' on 2 occasions which was quite a poor dish for this class of establishment & veal on 2 other evenings.

and the one evening meal we had in the restaurant was very good, if a little over priced.

It is unfortunate that the menu dinner costs +40 EUR / person + drinks (the same applies to kids), what we found rather expensive.

Very expensive for something i could’ve got from a supermarket.

You can park at front temporarily unload or pick up your luggage and park at a specified car park area with a fee.

Here, a bit formal if not to say stiff (matching the prices, see below).

We had breakfast there only one morning (as it is not included in the price of the apartment)

but the bigger cost was having one's Christmas ruined.

We were not fased by the rather high rate [ almost US$ 400)

but also VERY expensive one, which means that we mostly ate elsewhere.

However, the non air-conditioned ones seem to be as astronomically priced as the other ones.

Yes it is expensive and it isn't perfect -

but there are a few of them and they are very expensive !

Hotel has a gourmet restaurant which we thought looked a bit old school (we didn't investigate by dining) + had Michelin prices without the stars.

We of course came for the famous hotel on the lake and not for the far away place in the second lane off the lake! The only way not to fully waste our anniversary plans was to pay a hefty upgrade fee (double the price!)

We really did not expect this to happen when we booked an “emperors room” at a rate of approx.

I think if we hadn't paid so much for the room we would have been much happier with the service and facilities.

Considering how low the occupancy was and what we had paid, this was disappointing (I think our hotel room number was 63).

I thought the transfers from Salzburg were a little expensive,

There was a TV in the room with one English Channel (BBC world news).

Additional requests for an iron, early 7am breakfast on one occasion and the free loan of a DVD player (English news channels only provided) were very speedily met.

We visited all the surrounding villages by ferry, the cog railway and took the cable cr from St Gilgen.

It was fun to watch the movies about it plus Sound of Music on the hotels TV channel.

The family room was spacious and the kids loved their room that also had a TV!

There were also big, fuzzy blankets to drape over you while you lounged and admired the beautiful lake view-very nice touch!

They even play the Sound of Music on their in-house channel.

The view off the balcony was amazing, wonderful sunset.

The hotel was very well presented with lounge, bar, dining and large terrace area and offered numerous additional facilities.Good sized bedroom with lake view balcony, ensuite and walk in wardrobe.

We had a superior room at the front with fantastic views and the balcony is sheltered from the sun.

Room was spacious, well appointed with a balcony and a bit of a view of the lake.

Stayed for one week at the Strandhotel Margaretha , in a superior room with lake view.The scenery from the balcony was breathtaking.

but this hotel with a lakeside balcony view at reasonable price was chosen.

Our room was extremely spacious, and the views from the balcony were spectacular.

We had a really good view from our balcony onto this area and noticed that it is kept scrupulously clean by some very dedicated staff.

When we arrived we had been upgraded at no extra cost to a twin room with balcony and view of Lake Wolfgang.

We had a great view of the lake and the mountain from our balcony.

We also had the benefit of the Red Bull Air Show, with great views from our balcony.

Somehow I did make all the connections and arrived in good time and was pleasantly greeted and quickly shown to my room which was an unexpected upgrade with a balcony and view.

We paid Thomson an additional £224 for the week for a side lake view and balcony.

Every day we enjoyed the view from the balcony, where we even got one of our evening meals bought in the town center few minutes walk away.

Room was a small suite with a balcony view of the lake and mountains.

The view from our balcony was breathtaking.

We had booked a dinner, bed and breakfast package and again were very impressed the the amount and quality of the food served.

You sometimes have to “queue” to get what you want from the buffet.

Breakfast offered a good range of options.

has a penchant for having it piped throughout the hotel from breakfast to dinner and all evening.

Food was excellent with plenty of choice for breakfast and dinner (most allergies were shown on the menu) also complimentary tea and cake in the afternoon which was very welcome.

Good choice at breakfast and all the staff were helpful, happy and good at their jobs.

Even got to eat outside under the canopy for breakfast and dinner on 3 nights, watching the sun rise and dip over the lake.

The continental breakfast had a great variety.

Huge selection at breakfast, and a five course evening meal with silver service.

The breakfast is good, served inside the restaurant and on the terrace.

The included breakfast was also very high quality.

The rooms were spotlessly clean,
food was good, a lovely choice for breakfast.

They had also run out of Nuernbuerger Bratwurst (a type of sausage) at breakfast this morning when I was hankering after a few,

Breakfast was good with a selection of hot food, cold meats and cheeses, pastry, yoghurt and cereals.

The restaurant provided ample breakfasts with fresh food and good coffee, while the evening meals on half board were so comprehensive that it was sometimes necessary to forego the delicious salad or decline one of the other four courses.

Disappointed with staff also who was more busy preparing the breakfast area for the next day than attending hungry diners (maybe because they already knew that diners will stay hungry anyway).

It is separated from the actual lakeside by road, which is not too busy.

This is really the quieter end of St Wolfgang, personally I was glad we were not in the main part of the town (10 minutes walk away) which was very busy even in mid July.

Either go early morning or late afternoon as it gets busy in between.

Try and get to dinner early (by 6:30pm) as when it gets busy, we found that we became invisible sometimes even after we thought we were next to get our next course, especially when one of the 3 main serving staff were on their day off.

Unfortunately our ice cave trip lasted 3.5 hours (and we didn't dawdle) and it wasn't massively busy, and we didn't even get to the top "5 fingers", so if you are offered a trip to Hallstaat and the ice caves, be warned that you may not have time to see Hallstaat - and it works out a very expensive day!

but quite busy in the daytime with day tourists.

One evening, whilst having a not too late night drink, it was obvious that the bar lady just wanted to go home (turning lights off around us and scowling when we ordered another round).

but after our rep's intervention we remained where we were re-allocated.We did not see anything that suggested any family involvement in the hotel and having a drink in the evening after meals seemed to be a problem with seating areas in darkness and we felt we were inconveniencing staff.On a positive note there is a private frontage onto the lake for batheing,swimming etc.which was good.The cog railway is only about 100 yards away which is convenient.Hotel cleaning staff were excellent.Slightly disappointing for a 4 star hotel

But do not make our mistake and eat there, a drink will be (expensive) enough.

One very small criticism was that on 2 evenings we wandered back from the town to have a drink at the hotel bar (arriving back no later than 10pm) and the bar was all closed up and in darkness, understandable perhaps if nobody had been in the bar all evening

The follwoing night when they got the order wrong yet again offered us complimentry drinks - and guess what - got that ordder wrong as well.

Restaurant drinks seemed a bit pricey for Brits suffering a low exchange rate.

Food was mostly good (though sometimes a bit salty), and as we stayed on a 1/2 board basis afternoon tea and biscuits was included too (though no free drinks for kids).

Drinks in the hotel are expensive so bear that in mind.

The hotel has a nice location, a short walking distance from the village, and very near the funicular train to go up the mountain and a stop of the boats that cross the lake.

This is a hotel I would love to return to because of the wonderful room and location.

Very nice location, just across the small road there is a private beach on the lake.

A hotel with a lovely position overlooking the lake, just out of town and thus very quiet at night.

The hotel is also located within 200 meters of the 'Wolfgangsee Schifffahrt '  -- a medium sized ferry that you can take all around the lake.

The location is great - not far from the local motorways, and just at the lake-side.

We enjoyed visiting St. Wolfgang and on the whole this was a very nice hotel in a good position overlooking the lake and not too near the town centre

The location is perfect - close to the town and nearby the ferry, mountain train and mini golf.

but this hotel is in a quiet location about 10minutes walk from the centre.The hotel is really lovely ,it is clean food is of a good standard ,5course dinner and complimentary afternoon tea ,and the staff are friendly and helpful.They have a private sun bathing area across from the hotel and easy walk to bus stops a new mountain railway.

This hotel is set in a prime location for all the lake has to offer.

Breakfast on the terrace and lying in the sun on the lake side, a dream holiday and a perfect location, what more can I say! !

Everything is excellent here a great position  opposite the lake and beautiful views of St Wolfgang and the mountains.

It’s just a shame that the room experience and the poor food soured the week.

but this had limited channels in English and poor reception.

but I have to say that the food was, in my opinion, not of 4 star standard, the choice was poor and quality inconsistent, and seemed to be done 'on the cheap'.

but she tried to be-friend us and hassled us a bit about having her as a taxi on her day off to take us round to see some sights in Halstatt (where she lived) as she said she needs to supplement her poor wages at the hotel!!!

On one day our group was 18 students to one instructor which was very poor.

On the down side the dinner service was v ery poor frequently had order wrong and misssed out one course altogether on Christmas day.

The only thing which was not up to the standard of the rest of the Margaretha  was the main course at dinner which we found very poor.

Lots of doors banging at 5/6 a.m.  Food not brilliant and widely variable from very good to very poor.

There is a charging station which you can reserve and costs a forfeit of 20 euro for the day.

However, even local wine by the bottle was unexpectedly expensive and we soon reverted to house wine by the carafe.

However, Thomson were able to offer (for a supplement equal to 15% of the total cost) a "Superior" room with lake view.

but he advised that moving would incur a considerable cost to ourselves, a bill I was not prepared to pay given the state of the accommodation we were allocated.

I suspect the owners comment would be ‘this is the room we paid for’,

In the afternoon there was afternoon tea at no extra charge a choice of tea, cake, and biscuits.

Most bottles of wine are priced at 29 euro, which is a bit steep

If you want lunch suggest you go out as the a la carte menu in the hotel is very expensive.

I doubt if Morton’s has a steak at that price.

I can't believe that anyone could possibly rate this hotel as being terrible - I suspect the he or she was describing another hotel! !

It's not too expensive to hire a car which we did to take us further afield on the cloudy/ wet days.

but we can only report what we experienced and rate the hotel accordingly.

There are plenty of watersports around, ferries across the lake, a cog train which goes up the local mountain - quite expensive

This is compensated by the large and beautiful terrace with view on the lake where you eat your breakfast.

The communal areas are stylish and comfortable, and the terrace has wonderful views over the lake.

Lovely views from the terrace where meals can be eaten if the weather permits.

So pleasant to eat either in the dining room, or on the huge terrace.

VERY moden hotel I would say not to everyone 's taste lovely setting right on the lake had breakfast and evening meal on terrace every day staff was really good and attentive room always clean and tidy .Food was very different good

we loved the terrace in which you can have beakfast or dinner is in front of the lake, the beach is well equipped and overall the is a really peacefulplace to stay.

Absolutely overwhelmed by beautiful view of the lake from the dining room and terrace.

The hotel open areas were very nice, the lakeside area is very pleasant, and spending a sunny evening on the terrace was fabulous.

but hot, so most days we ate outside on the covered terrace.

In the afternoon, tea and cake was available to enjoy on the terrace.

Good choice for breakfast to set you up for a good days walking and then return for dinner which is taken on the terrace in good weather.

The restaurant has a wonderful terrace with lake views - lovely at all times of day.

The room had its own terrace equipped with table and chairs and two sunbeds and a sunshade.

We enjoyed having dinner on the terrace with a view of the lake on the three evenings that it was warm enough.

The hotel has a nice lounge bar area and front sun terrace for use in good weather.

We enjoyed breakfast every morning sitting on the terrace overlooking the lake and breakfast was available from 7am to 10.30am so no hurry in the morning.
