The toilet also stunk for the 1st 7 days we were there, until the maid put some bleach down it on day 7, which improved things considerably, as previously we had to keep the door shut and the fan on when in the room.

All of the doors to the rooms need replacing.

but there is frosted glass on the shower and toilet doors so you can’t see through.

Should be hotel info in each room with info on safe, Wi-Fi & tourist recommendations, making clear if balcony door was open then air con would go off etc.

Significantly if you are in that situation, the bathroom has no door.

No bathroom door, toilet was behind a shower screen.

It's open and the toilet and shower have sliding doors.

No doors fitted to bathrooms so no privacy.

Slight worry that our patio doors were left open one day and our front door on another day

but one was a rusty camp style bed which blocked the patio door completely.

The only thing is that the room doors slam shut, despite trying to do it quietly.

I loved the sliding doors to the toilet and shower, again I don’t understand the niggles on that one.

The access ramp to the font door is a little tricky

The set up is pretty unique in the bathroom, with clear/frosted doors for the toilet, and shower, with the sink placed in the middle, so not much privacy.

Initially we were slightly alarmed by the see-through toilet doors in the room

233 and 234 have a small view of sea in the distance and pool
Key cards had to be reset on an almost daily basis, annoying when reception is busy and some guests seem to think letting the room doors bang all hours is OK
Food, plenty of choice, hot and fresh
Meat, fish, seafood, pasta, potatoes, salads, veg and a paella always available
Breakfast either cooked or continental with plenty of choice
Alphonso in restaurant “number one” and smiley guy working bar deserve a mention for their always happiness and desire to help.

We shared a room with 3 beds, on entering the room we were suprised to find the shower cubicle straight ahead, and toilet cubicle,  no bathroom door!!.

The door, to the toilet, also has no lock to it.

although there is a frosted glass door on the toilet, you can clearly see your partner sat on the pot.

The shower and toilet both have frosted doors to them with a sink and mirror bewtween them.

Very poor management skills as the hotel needed a couple of extra bodies in a few areas .

The first 2 days we were there a poor frightened looking boy was in charge of 'entertainment'.

The night we booked 4 couples left as the food was poor, greasy and cold.

The hotel entertainment was pretty poor unfortunately and weirdly inside quite a small room with a stage, most people sat outside, i felt the 'entertainment ' would be much better if it was outside with a few changes to the seating area.

It was absolutely mind boggling how we felt that the easiest dish of the day (in our opinion) was so extremely poor.

The entertainment was also very very poor, 2/3 of people left after only 15 minutes most nights.

Read a lot of reviews regarding the food and the poor quality.

Very clean rooms with comfy beds and superb air con .

The rooms have very poor air conditioning, so it was uncomfortable sleeping, especially as there are no proper pillows.

The food was poor, bland, repetitive and of low quality.

Drinks provided are again cheap and a poor selection available.

also NO PINK GIN available not even to purchase / very poor selection of drinks !

but again great service with the room cleaned every day and a plentiful supply of clean towels.

The cleaners also - lovely clean rooms and towels daily and the most comfortable beds and matress!

The hotel itself is ok, nothing spectacular, the rooms were always clean, there’s air con in the room down the bathroom end

Their answer to this, was to cover the broken/missing tiles with an old mat, that absolutely stunk the room out.

To be aware, shops (like the spar shop across the road from the hotel) are not allowed to sell any tobacco products.

Because of change in Spanish law you can only smoke in a small area outside the bar at front of hotel.

However, there are a couple of places put aside for smoking in this hotel.

we are used to not smoking indoors and I agree with that also not in areas where people are eating,

The sun loungers were all filthy and in some cases cracked and fixed with gaffer tape.

There are several rooms off reception,relaxing room with bed like area,2 pool tables in another and a reading room where you can book swap.This is a no smoking hotel,the only places you can smoke or vape is outside the front of hotel or on your own balcony.There is a Spar shop right outside hotel and also a restaurant.

The wine was disgusting apart from the last night it improved slightly.

No smoking only at front of hotel and at side of pool area.

This year we spent a couple of days down on the beach - we tried the smaller cove nearer the hotel that a few people have recommended on here - no idea why as it was full of stinking seaweed !

We called the TUI call centre to see if we could move, we were advised nothing would happen for 3 days at least as the change team only work mon-fri ( we arrived on Friday)
-bedroom smelt damp
- no bottled water available in the rooms, had to be purchased 
- drinks were awful, lager flat, and soft drinks left a strange aftertaste.

Access to the hotel is via a very sharp twisted damp which was not easy.

Only downside was the picnic the sandwiches were uneatable as the bread was very stale,

We had room 13 (unlucky for some) and there was a bit of a smell so without question Pepe offered us a room with a sea view.

After so long waiting to check in I wasnt going to ask to have my room changed after being told we had a room on the ground floor which was at the end of a very smelly corridor.

Entertainment in the evening was mainly held in a smallish room (stale smoke was prevalent and didn’t create a good impression) with plastic chairs and tables.

The hotel and rooms are kept to a clean standard and the bedrooms are functional for a short stay.

Toiletries were supplied in the bathroom and cleaners kept room clean.

The room was very clean apart from the shower head which was filthy.

Stayed at la cala Hotel for 14 nights and it was perfect  the staff are fantastic and very very friendly the room's are spotlessly clean and comfortable and the location is great for getting about and the food is really nice with plenty of choice.

The food here is very poor, unfortunately the worst I’ve ever had.

The food, available in the canteen - I refuse to use the word restaurant - is poor and unimaginative at best.

The entertainment was poor and there was no other bar or lounge to escape to if you didn't like it.

The evening entertainment was poor, whereas the entertainment used to be outside, it's now inside - which really doesn't make sense to me, especially with Covid still around.

The food is poor quality and lacking in choice, which has been the case for a few years, so increasingly we have eaten out.

* The wine very was poor in the restaurant and had run out of 3 out of 4 white wine options.

Naturally there were some bad points, for example the sea front bathing area was made of rough concrete, many sun beds were in poor condition and if you were unlucky, like us,  you could end up in a room overlooking the evening entertainment , which could make sleeping difficult if you had been up since early on your outbound flight.

Like all things I suppose you could select something that is not exactly as you would like it (resident entertainment duo are very poor) our main complaint would still be sun beds most of which still have towels on by 6.30am?

I feel sorry for these poor individuals who seem to have nothing better to do with their lives 

Entertainment was heavily geared to the older generation and have to say the resident double act were pretty poor and became very monotonous.

It  relies very much on the return of the regulars and doesn't seem to want to give them anything back, for example the sunbeds and umbrellas on the lower sun bathing areas near to the water are in a very poor condition having not been upgraded for years.

Having been to this hotel many times, I feel let down, and taken for granted by Catalonia, (not the staff, who are all wonderful) The food was very poor, with watery vegetables, tinned fruit, salad nowhere as good as it used to be.

The food was rather poor in presentation and in taste, and for people with allergies I would not recommend it.

Dress code has been relaxed, with no enforcement in the restaurant at all, we had people next to us who came in straight from sun bathing with out getting changed, poor management in the restaurant.

Despite the rooms being spotlessly clean and comfortable the furnishing are looking very tired which I felt didn’t warrant the hotel being rated as platinum standard.

however the building and rooms were kept spotless,  all the staff worked hard and  were very friendly and helpful apart from kitchen.

Why give people the choice to smoke on their balconies

We were shown to a room on the 5th floor which reeked off smoke and had not been cleaned thoroughly as one of the teaspoons was smeared in yogurt.

The seats and table on the balcony were covered in bird poop as felt like these were unusable.

There were a number of stains in the hotel room, most disgustingly on the toilet seat (please see photographs).

We spoke to several other guests who were also not happy with their rooms, including a guest in a single room who had to put up with a sewerage smell every time neighbouring rooms used their bathrooms.

The smell of urine in the en-suites was over powering until cleaners each morning drowned the smell with neat bleach, which was also over powering.

We didn’t come as part of a tour group and were assigned an upgraded (deluxe) suite that was in tough shape - fridge wasn’t working, room wasn’t sufficiently clean, broken fixtures in bathroom, shower curtain far too short to be effective at keeping bathroom dry and strong smell from pipes (sewage?).

but they must do something about the sewerage smells.

Beautiful hotel except our room had a horrible smell after my husband complaining twice and them trying to fix it

The smell lingered throughout our 7 day stay.

Our room was looking very tired with smelly drains 224 and is in need of some attention.

The bathroom was always a bit smelly to say the least.

Rooms on level 2 and 3 are older and really in need of updating, we paid for late check out to keep a room on until 6pm as our flight was really late and was asked to move rooms and given 309 which comparable to our deluxe room was old and tried with a smelly bathroom, just where there was no ventilation.

There was no toilet brush and nowhere to hang damp swimwear or clothes and very noisy in the day and from the entertainment if you were stage side.

The spring rolls btw were probably the worst ive had ever and the chips were dry and stale and inedible at times.The food was very obviously produced as cheap as possible and quality on a par with a 2 star hotel.

For most of the holiday there was and unpleasant smell in the corridors of our floor.

Unfortunately the room we were given had a bit of a smell to it

The entertainment is poor, you’d think for a 4* hotel they would have much more.

but the adult entertainment provided was poor.

but I have to say this time the entertainment was dire, great for the kiddies part but after that, really poor and not entertaining at all, very poorly organised.

The entertainment programme is quite poor for children.

All in all, a very poor experience and it ruined the first day of our holiday.

Our kids were constantly frustrated with the very poor Wi-Fi around the hotel and in the room, so I'd also advise people who need to work when overseas to consider possible alternatives.

The kitchen staff seemed to be quite slow to replace empty selections which was poor.

We found the bar understaffed on evenings, both the red wine and white wine on the all inclusive package was very poor indeed.

Long queues for bars 10-12 deep on average, top brass were in for a few days and they put extra staff on for their benefit, shame they cant do it all the time for the benefit of the customers paying £3000 plus for a week, the drinks on all inclusive are really poor quality wine (I mean undrinkable) the soda and beer goes flat if not consumed under 5 minutes

I have to say that despite their best efforts, the entertainment was poor.

Then a poor 6 yr old did slip over and cut her eye open the second week we were there.

but again very busy, poor salad selection doesn’t look appealing.

The gym is very poor (one treadmill, two static bikes and one cross trainer).

The staff are really friendly and helpful and the rooms are very clean the maids do a great job !

Rooms are clean, modern and we had daily visits from house keeping.

We have been coming to this hotel for 8 years the hotel is set  in a lovely sea view location and spotless as are the rooms the pool is very big with more than enough sunbeds and umbrellas and is cleaned every morning.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and so are the rooms, the outdoor facilities such as pools were also very clean and never a problem getting a sunbed.

It’s a family hotel, room was clean and functional, comfortable and good size.

but it was not attended to) and spent 10 days with a towel wrapped round the base of the toilet to stop us from slipping on the water that trickled from the base.

Plenty of sun beds and none of this putting a towel on to reserve nonsense.

You have to pay for towels, 7 euro for a week.

Otherwise it’s 7.50 euro per towel and you’ll can change as many times as you like.

Realised/remembered recently that the pool towels had a refundable deposit, which wasnt given to me when i left which i think its very cheeky.

We also discovered that all inclusive does not include water which we would have to buy and pool towels have to be rented.

but they, and the floor is covered with the red sand that when mixed with water makes a dirty paste that stains clothes and towels.

The other annoyance was that the towels were €7.50 each none refundable.

The all inclusive package is not a true all inc - charging for ice creams and snacks is not on, nor is hiring beach towels.

Would be nice in a 4 star hotel two have two bath towels per guest.

My only gripe would be the age-old problem of people using towels to ‘reserve’ sunbeds which meant that sometimes there were no spare sunbeds. I’d appreciate signs and clear guidance  being put up to say this is not allowed, which would then mean I felt justified in moving towels from unoccupied sun beds (which I may well have done anyway.  )

There are pool towels to hire,works out a bit pricey for a family.

2) People putting towels on sunbeds before the pool even opens.

It never got the sun either, so towels etc never dried.

You have to pay for pool towels, not a deposit a hire charge.

Had to pay on arrival for pool towels, again why in a 4 star hotel?.

The gym does not have a water fountain, towels or staff in attendance.

Hotel has commitment to the environment so water is ssued in glasses not plastic bottles and towels are changed at your request rather than without question.

After the first nite we discovered the fridge did not work neither the hairdryer or the plug in the sink the shower was a poor quality and really not a hotel quality shower the room was tired and in the grand scheme of things reflected the hotel bizarrely the bathroom door opened and hit the loo so if you was using it the door would slam in to you so side way usage was advised.

but the lighting was very poor the bathroom was well equipped but it lacked any places to hang towels or bathrobes
Overall a very enjoyable stay but they just need to sort out these two little issues

but there is a lovely public beach, with payable sunbeds and parasols, just 10 minutes walk away

The Cons (hotel appears to have been built in 1970 and last renovated in 2011)
- worst of all was the room which was the most basic accommodation imaginable and like going back to the 1970s, when brown was in fashion, poor lighting was acceptable and expectations were low. It definitely under-delivered on the ‘deluxe’ promised in our BA package
-beds were two singles (partially on wheels!)

Not a good stay outdated rooms, and poor entainment.

but my, along with my friends rooms, were in a poor state of repair.

but mangement are deluded if they think that providing poor second rate entertainment by inexperienced performers with no Compere, bad or no  lighting and bad sound is good enough for this class of hotel.

Our experience of the poor service from the Jet 2 rep, was supported by another couple who had stayed for 10 nights and told us that they had also not seen him until their last day.

Storage was poor and beds were on wheels so every time I sat down it moved!

The lobby bar advertised is not open and has not been open for over 2 years
2 There is only one indoor buffet restaurant - there is no outside dining or choice or places to eat
3 The air conditioning in the rooms is so poor it makes almost no difference to the room temperature even when on maximum and cut out multiple times during our stay.

Gym was poor with machinery out of use, no water machine, no air con, looked very neglected.

Our only down side, poor evening entertainment, needs a  nice relaxing lounge in the evening with a bar, spoils the evening.
