Excellently located hotel within easy walking distance of the many bars and eateries.

The breakfast is fantastic and there is a bar in the lobby, a courtyard, a ping pong table and billiards.

Lobby is spacious and there is a bar and meeting and sitting rooms  and game room as well as a restaurant on the first floor.

There’s a pool table and ping pong table and cozy lobby and bar too!

I heard the music from the bar next door.

Spotless rooms, great breakfast, awesome bar and restaurant, and the best staff you can hope for in a hotel.

Also the lounge and bar were really warm and cosy too as it was very cold outside.

This hotel is superbly well-located in town within walking distance of many bars, restaurants and local artisanal shops.

Bar snacks in the evening are first class and quite reasonable as are the drinks.

but only a short walk to the bars and restaurants.

although I don't speak a lick of Spanish the staff in the quaint/charming little Bar didn't speak or have a great understanding of English.

We ate in the bar one evening - it's a very limited menu - and had breakfast each morning in the restaurant and everything was nicely presented and enjoyable.

The common areas stood out as being really cosy and friendly.

However, it's very loud when you open the windows, which then impacts your sleep quality.

I was really disappointed with this hotel, it looks lovely on the outside, the corridors are nicely decorated and smell nice and then you open your hotel room door and are hit by a terrible smell in your bathroom - which is of sewage and damp.

A quaint touch is that you have to use a real key (not the card type) to open and lock the room door.

If we kept windows open for ventilation we heard loud music and  people yelling and car doors slamming from the activity at the bar.

Yes, you keep your windows open (no screens is not a concern to us!).

If you open the windows there are no screens and all the mosquitos visit your room.

We go to the room and there were no perfume sticks in it and the strong smell was still there even with the windows open.

(Note: the spa aera only opens at 3pm, so no early morning workout,

However, the hotel would not lend me an opener to open beer bottle unless I paid $5 which was more than cost of the beer.

The other issue to note - the hotel will charge you 50 pesos simply to open a bottle of wine at the bar - a total ripoff!

Also not sure if there was any airconditioning as our room was rather hot and hence we had to open the window, and got the noise.

There seems to be a dog kennel in the back, so if you like to have your windows open, request a room on the street,

While this isn't really a problem in Calafate (just open a window) there is a bar/hostel across the street from the hotel, so if you're opening a window you're also being kept awake until late in the evening which may be annoying if you need to wakeup at 6am to go on a tour, hike on a glacier etc.

There was no hand lotion in the bathroom and no coffee/tea maker in the room for those guests that rise before the restaurant opens for breakfast.

The only downside is that they use a rather strong cleaning solution in the rooms so you need to open the windows for a bit after the cleaning people come through.

Jacuzzi could be open a little lter as often we got back late in the evening and it was already closed.

My wife spent the night with her head mostly out of the open window in our room.

although we did hear car, trash truck  and neighborhood noise if we left our window open.

Due to the lack of AC (not really needed in EC), windows need to be open which allows the street noise in.

Bad sleep due to heat and fact that if we left window open insects came in!!

Our room was quite hot so we had to leave the Windows open.

Our open window, because the room was warm, didn't help the situation.

becaue of street noise (occasional cars and motorcycles) we couldn't leave our window open, so I didn't sleep well.

though soundproofing is poor, not great for light sleepers.

The one bad thing I’d have to point out, is that the wifi connection was very very poor.

I had a poor night’s sleep as the bed was very uncomfortable and my back was sore and stiff in the morning.

Breakfast quality was really poor, the worst of the 3 hotels we stayed during our visit to Argentina by far - I pretty much skipped everything except for the coffee.

This hotel is good if you don't expect too much, as the food is very poor and the Wi-Fi is terrible

Noise insulation was poor, as noted in most hotels we stayed in during our 5-days stay in argentinian Patagonia.

The Hotel Kosten Aike in Calafate is a beautiful Patagonian hotel, with good breakfast included and excellent service, it’s right in the city center, it has a restaurant and a gift shop store.

We stayed at this hotel and is only 2 blocks from the main road where shops and restaurants are located.

Location is very good; just a few blocks away from the main street of El Calafate with numerous restaurants and shops.

There is a souvenir shop in the lobby that has very good prices when compared to shops outside.

We also enjoyed talking to the woman who ran the gift shop and knitted many of the items.

This hotel is perfectly located a couple blocks from down town, a easy walk to shops and restaurants!

We walked into our room and thought we were in a suite as it is huge.

Well situated in the centre of the city and so easy to walk to restaurants.

Wall outlets for charging personal electronics was either of the European type c or the kind found in Australia / new Zealand as type I.  Centrally located in the small town so an easy short walk to the main shopping and restaurant areas.

It is also very close to the lagoon that you can walk around to see a nice selection of birds including flamingos.

Close to Laguna Nimez Reserve and Lago Argentina makes accessing the bird life with flamingos a highlight at the Laguna and Lago convenient.

The location is 5 minutes from the Nimez Laguna and a 20 min walk to the town.

It is just a five minute walk to Laguna Nimez and no more than 15 minutes to the city centre.

It is also about a block from the Laguna Nimez, and excellent place for bird watching and getting in a good walk.

It's a walking distance to Laguna de Nimez Reserve.

Cauquenes de Nimez is a cosy small hotel just minutes away from Laguna Nimez, which is a lagoon nature park with birds and flamingos.

Walking distance to downtown and to the Laguna Nimez nature preserve for birding.

Although a bit outside of town (you can reach the main street, Ave del Liberador, with 15 min of walking), it was a great place on the shores of Lago Argentino.

It's very close to Laguna Nimez, hence the name of the place, and it only a 10 minute walk to the center of town.

This charming hotel is located close to the Argentino lake bay and next to a wildlife reserve.

Cauquenes de Nimez is situated just outside the little city El Calafate, very close to the shore of the lake.

We walked to the close-by Laguna Nimez Bird Reserve and really enjoyed the large and carefully planned sanctuary.

If you are into birding as we are the Laguna Nimez Reserve is 2 blocks away and is a designated IBA (important birding area)   We thoroughly enjoyed our morning there and got to see a harrier chase a grey fox away from her nest!

Cauquenes de Nimez is in a local neighbourhood which is walking distance from the laguna di Nimez, ecological park, which is a nice place for an outdoor walk to see Chilean Flamingos and other birds.

The lake is close by and you should walk to the shore early in the AM to see the birds feeding and horses grazing.

It was a couple of blocks from the waterfront and from the centre of town.

We went exploring near the bay and through the quiet neighborhoods.

The hotel is very close to the Laguna Nimez nature reserve (45 peso entry fee).

She should be in charge

At the end, I used my personal card and kept it inserted in the control.

although after some negotiation the surcharge was lowered.

Nothing was a problem, from providing a lunch for your trip (small charge); providing a specially requested dinner (provided reasonable notice has been given); to allowing us an extra hour to check out free of charge.

but noisy due to cracking  sounds from the hallways and rooms on top floor .

My only complaint was that when the people upstairs got up early, you could hear every footstep due to the wooden floors - luckily this only happened on one morning!

The only disturbing thing we experienced is that in the morning it can be very noisy due to the combination of early departures of the excursions and the wooden construction of the building.

We had booked for 3 nights,but due to our flights changing,we had to leave at 5pm on our third night.

Again, I am confused about a previous reviewer commenting that you need to request this- they are obviously not going to make copious amounts of afternoon tea and then waste half of it due to it being unwanted.

but was not impressed with the stale urine smell.

The bathroom is gross with mildew and mold.

Bathroom had such a strong moldy odor that we had to keep the window open all night to breathe.

In stead of being honest and solve the problem they tried to send us to a less comfortable hotel with a smelly and dark room.

The triple room (although specified by the Agency for 3 adults ) was a double room with a cot. And finally unbearable odor from towels (drying problem?)

The spanish girl from the reception was very nice and helpful!

We cannot rate the staff here highly enough, especially Clara and Bruno.

The staff were wonderful and very helpful.

It's closed on Wednesdays and reservations for other nights are taken at the front desk.

Breakfast is way above average and the reception desk could not be more helpful!

The staff here were extraordinarily competent during my stay - speaking excellent English, juggling taxis for the guests and extremely good when one of the other guests became suddenly and dangerously ill.

We walked down and along it to enjoy all the birds.

As an alternative restaurant, the staff recommended El Cucharon, in a new location and a four minute walk down by the lake.

One thing to remember is that it is a 35 minute walk to the bus station as it's the other end of town.

2) Location is quite a distance from El Calafate main street and it's at least 15 minutes walk from the small visitor centre park, Walking at night from town to the hotel is quite safe

The hotel is on a quiet dirt road only 5-10 min walk from the busy center of El Calafate, which makes for a nice respite from the craziness of the main road and business center.

It is about a 15-minute walk from the town,

So it was a quiet place to stay and great for a walk on the nice path along the lake.
