We had a lovely spacious room (15) with beautiful views from the balcony which is large enough for a table and chairs and two sun loungers.

The room had the most beautiful view, super comfortable beds, a balcony which had the best view ever and I visited over 35 countries.

Our balcony had a wonderful view out over the harbor, and our room was clean and basic.

We enjoyed a top floor room with a balcony and picturesque views of Loutro harbour.

Outside on the balcony is a table and chairs and an umbrella.

It’s up on the hill, so get ready for a nice tracking,the restaurant in the hotel, serves nice Greece food, the staf is very nice, except one time, the manager was a little stressed and not so friendly

We've been for a few years now and whether you enjoy the view from your balcony, the delicious breakfast, with views over the bay, or a relaxed dinner it's just a great place to stay.

Sitting at the balcony in early morning hours and watching the sunrise with a good book in hand is the best way to start the day.

Enjoy your breakfast on the  balcony overlooking the harbour and it's blue blue blue water, and enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants fronting the harbour.

Each room with its own balcony overlooking the bay, the ideal setting for a pre-prandial gin and chilled tonic whilst watching the last ferry pull in and unload!

Sophie and her team looked after us so well and even decorated the breakfast balcony with balloons and bunting and produced a cake for our sons birthday.

We had  room #2 which has a balcony and faced the harbour overtop of the restaurant,

As the hotel was quiet I was offered a room on the top floor with a lovely balcony complete with sun beds and drying facilities.

The rooms are upgraded with good beds,big and soft towels(also beach towels),a splendid bath and the best : a balcony with a perfect view of sea and the little village .

The balconies are large (even larger at the topmost floor).

breakfast is lovely with the great sea view from the balcony.

We had a room with a terrace on the top floor (the 4ish rooms on the top floor with balconies would certainly be the best rooms).

She said that's the way it is and I said that they should take credit cards by law.

There's yoghurt and honey or toasties for a small charge.

If you don't want to cook you can have breakfast in the bar for a small charge.

If you want more there is a small charge for things like fruit salads, Greek yogurt, eggs etc.

In our search for rooms we also discovered that everywhere else offers free WiFi, whereas Porto Loutro charges 4 Euro/day.

There was also a charge for use of sunbed/umbrella

Some reviews have pointed out that the hotel charges for Internet (although there bars and tavernas where its free)

It is impossible to express in words the physical and emotional charge which we absorb from crystal-clear, blue water of the Libyan Sea.

but the woman who rules the hotel must be upset by her job
She wasn’t nice and welcoming with my wife,  maybe for some racial reasons too, I don’t know, but I don’t recommend to stay in this hotel, as there are at least 6 hotels the same in loutro.

Just was there last Friday 21/10 and the hotel has the best location in Loutro, close to the beach, the room is clean, the hotel owner is a very nice lady, the hotel personel is very nice.

The hotel is located above the harbor of the wonderful village Loutro in the south of Crete.

The hotel occupies a commanding position overlooking the bay and what with that and the quality of the food served up for both breakfast and dinner must make it one of the most competitive establishments in the village.

But if you want a hotel in a prime position in Loutro with sea and coastal views to die for then this is the place.

Alison's as most people refer to it ,after the the gaurdian of this wonderful place.Is located at the centre of the cove,if you come to complain,don't come Alison does not suffer fools gladly and I too subscribe to this philosophy of life.

Rooms are adequate and reasonable for location and price.

There was no apology or discount from the loud and ill mannered owner Alison.

Very loud music right across the bay spoiling everyone else's night.

Instead of playing acustic music for the local guests in your hotel, intense, loud music filled the bay and  kept all guests in all accomodations sleepless.

Had we known about the party we would have gone elsewhere.

but Sunville got us to the nearest port by road and Allison, the hotel's owner fixed, the rest with taxi boat to get our luggage to the hotel (too rough for normal mortals but our cases didn't mind) and jeep plus a short hike in (Allison sent a party over to make sure we found our way) to get us there!

Apparently, only one member of a party is allowed to ask questions of Allison.

The walking is magical with only the sound of the buzzing bees on the wild thyme for company, oh and the odd goat - up the hill to Anopolis for Sfakia cheese pie with honey, then round to Livaniana for a beer at the bar with the pink piano.

It isn't ideal for young children or rowdy teenagers and is definitely NOT a party destination.

I answered that we have been ready for long time and her answer was that we should call her then!!!

Although it calls itself a hotel we did not have our rooms cleaned during our week

Finally call the hotel and they took my name and said no problem.

We leave behind the trappings of our busy lives and take off our watches, put away the laptop and mobiles and let Loutro soothe  our souls.

Yes the internal phone system can be a bit of an ornament at times because staffing is not heavy and room service not a feature.

As with not answering the phone, there is perhaps another reason.

Her answer was a rude no so I asked her why.

However, I wasn't prepared to be screamed at, in the front of the hotel, when I asked a question about the ferry .

Seeing how this is a small village and didn't want to be stuck without a hotel room, I asked for a email conformation.

You know one of these places that you are just asked to relax, watching, listening and smelling the sea.

She asked how close we were to Sfakia and whether it was time to send a boat for us from Loutro to Sfakia.

Our biggest problem this year was the order of holiday reading books from Amazon that I asked be sent direct to the hotel not arriving with Amazon saying the carrier couldn't deliver.

The room is clean and bright with a large fridge to stock up on cold drinks , good air conditioning and good Wifi.

Pretty room with water views compensated for that.

There are studio rooms available with cooking facilities.

Renovated rooms, healthy breakfast and the best view of the village .

Rooms are perfect, including amenities and beach towels.

but even then did not want to leave and cant wait to go back, Lovely clean simple Greek rooms which is what we love.

Since our last visit 2 years ago, the rooms have been upgraded with extremely comfortable beds.

We opted for the deluxe room on the last floor with a beautiful terrace.

Last year, all the rooms got a new look including new beds!

I spent 2 nights in this hotel, room 19, a wonderful stay.

We were surprised and disappointed that smoking is still allowed in the restaurant.

And sit upwind to avoid the smokers of Greece.

A faulty drain across from our door on the rear walkway to all the 2nd floor rooms also caused our room to be flooded during the storm with almost an inch of water, damaging some of our personal things we'd had in a suitcase on the floor.

Also in the bathroom, I felt a drip of liquid on my shoulder in front of the toilet, and it turned out that liquid was leaking from the ceiling, presumably from the toilet in the bathroom above me. Disgusting.

On the Sunday before we left, the owners and family members gathered for a feast of roasted lamb on the grill and we sadly sat on the balcony, forced to endure the heavenly smells of the roasting meat which others got to enjoy without us.

My only quibbles were the mattress which left me needing to some serious stretching in the morning to get the kinks out of my back and the loo which did smell quite a bit especially after a hot day, this is I feel more reflective of the fact that the whole town is not on mains drainage.

Beach towels are also provided to save your luggage allowance.

Comfortable bed with a soft topper, ( no sore hips), nice pillows and linen and extra beach towels.

There are beach towels provided and a hairdryer.

Our room was spotlessly clean and attended to daily with fresh sheets and towels every 3rd morning.

The owner originally from England knows what people like - crisp white linen sheets, fluffy white towels, extra blue towels for the beach, marble bathroom, the included breakfast has multi grain toast, fresh squeezed orange juice, croissants, jam & marmalade and that perfect filter coffee.

Hairdryers are provided as well as towels to use on the beach.

We got fresh towels every day, they serve home made jams for breakfast, the girls are all nice and Sofia (the owner) and her boyfriend Manolis, are very friendly and hospitable.

A hairdryer and beach towels are also provided which helps your luggage allowance.

but sunbeds, umbrellas and beach towels are available. Rooms face east (the whole village does!)

Alison now provides beach towels and there are hairdryers in the room.

And at times I felt like I was dealing with Manuel from 'faulty towels'!

The rooms are typically Greek with marble floors, good bathrooms and lovely crisp linen and fluffy towels.

but perfect - from the quality of the thick cotton towels and sheets, the useful fridge , to  the candles to light on the table on the balcony and the wonderful breakfast (don't miss the freshly squeezed orange juice and yogurt, fruit, and honey).

Very pretty room, good beds (matress a bit hard), fresh duvet, good pillows, thick white towels.

The rooms are  spacious and welcoming , from the high quality  bedding - crisp white sheets, or the duvet if you prefer to snuggle down with the perfectly working quiet airconditioning and softest towels in Greece, plus hot, hot water all day.

And after a day on the beach, and a shower, wrap yourself in the amazing soft towels.

The hotel has its own private terrace with sunbeds included in the price.

We had the usual friendly staff throughout the hotel from reception to housekeeping and the rooms always beautifully cleaned daily with fresh towels.

Right next to the sea, a stone built hotel with a plentiful breakfast and ultra helpful staff.

If driving you need to drive down what we first thought was a perdestrian street as there was so many people walking down it,

While I ate out in different restaurants over my visit there I can say with confidence that Jorgos the hotel chef/manager is the best cook in the village - exceptional food, I recommend you try it.

If you arrive by car there is parking available at the rear of the hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel getting on for 40 times over the last 25 years and it is with true sadness that I write that when we went in April 2019, the experience was not always pleasant.

Still our favourite hotel in the region - despite them double booking my friend's suite - he wasn't happy.

The hotel is on the edge of the sea at the harbor, offering many rooms with overlooking balconies or a large shared terrace.

If you stay in the back portion of the hotel, the rooms are larger, and you get a patio with an ocean view.

but suffice it to say that the hotel is very popular.

This quaint hotel has such wonderful views of the sea and the harbor.

The Xenia Hotel is a lovely hotel, in a great location, where you are made welcome by GREAT hosts.

After a few days we went to the local bakery (there are 2 in the village) and bought pastries and just had coffee and orange juice from the hotel.

The hotel arranged for someone to drive with us to Samaria early in the morning and drive the care back to the hotel for us.

The next day before leaving, we still came to Xenia and had lunch there (we gave all of our meal spend to Xenia, because I recognise meal revenue as important to a small hotel; and food was genuinely good).

The location is special and the staff really make it more so.

The big draw of course has always been the location and the view - and this remains as exceptional as ever.

The hotel is in a good location to try out the many restaurants and cafes or to take boat trips.

The location directly at the sea is great, we had room number 304 in the top floor with a huge terrace with a great view.

We stayed 3 nights at Chora Sfakion, the location is good at the end of the predestrian road in Chora, nice view the room is clean and the bed ok for sleep.

Very nice location on Chora Sfakion little port, our room was spacious, very clean, with a very nice balcony facing the little sand beach below.

Without a doubt, the real reason for staying here is the location.

For the first time visitor the prime attraction has to be its location - right by the sea with views in all directions.

The Xenia is well located, by the sea, with beaches front and rear.

but is still less than a five minute walk - however, this makes it more peaceful as regards its location.

The location is perfect:  the rooms more than adequate, if short on comfort and little amenities like some bottled water as a gift in the fridge.

but, for a small fee, transported our luggage to Sougia so we could pick it up from the ticket office when we passed by on the ferry on our way on to Paleochora!

Only one tour bus arrived before we did and we met almost nobody on the track after the initial dissent section (much better than taking a package tour).

This can be especially important during the peak season when tour buses bring groups of hikers from Chania and Heraklion.

but they refused to provide an earlier shuttle and said that only 3 tour buses arrive anyway before 8:30, so we'd still be able to beat the crowds.

There is parking, a restaurant on site that does delicious cretan food, a very good breakfast included in the price and a free shuttle service to the entrance to Samaria Gorge park at half hourly interval from 7:30 to 8:30 (thus beating the coach-loads).

but if you really want a true, authentic, Greek mountain hotel experience, this is your hotel.

Dinner at the hotel was lovely, home cooked lamb and all the meals looked very nice.

Ok breakfast and hotel will make you a lunch to bring (sanwich, apple, egg, tomato).

The hotel were very helpful and drove us to a different gorge.

I would gladly stay in the hotel for a night or two to explore the area, which is extremely beautiful, and relax in the nature.

Obviously you go there for Samaria gorge and the hotel is ideal forthe purpose + the food is amazing.

The hotel is really pretty, it's located in a beautiful place surrounded by mountains and goats and it's really close to the "Samaria Gorge".

Neos Omolos is a small, family run hotel designed for walkers.

The main thing about this hotel is that they make an effort to look after you.

They also have nice food and the location is great if you would like to go hiking in the beautiful mountains of Crete.

The location is very remote: it is all about the Samaria Gorge which is 3-4km away.

For the second and third nights of our journey we booked a room (bed and breakfast) at Neos Omalos hotel, located on the Omalos Plateau; a good base camp for outdoor activities in a magnificent place.

This is basically a travellers' / hikers' hotel as you'd understand from its location,

This rural retreat, high up in the mountains, a few kilometres from the north entrance to Samaria Gorge, provided an ideal location for making an early start to the 'downhill' descent of this Gorge.
