But not the first night due to our assigned suite being dark, two levels and quirky.

Laying on a sun bed of the terrace; looking around the landscape and the lively motion of the harbor without any intrusive noise; watching the lights and colors changing over the surrounding houses and local people living them , until the dark came,  was such an intimate and touching experience to be difficult expressing.

The furnishings of the room were quite dark

(Triple was a little dark -- only complaint we had.)

To have a shower was a challenge as when the shower curtain was drawn it was dark and difficult to see anything.

However it was very dark, dank and smelt very damp and musty.

The bathrooms were a little worn and the bedding was dark and heavy,

Would definitely come back despite minor complaints [a/c unit a bit weak and bathroom a bit small and dark] as it really is a charming stay whether you wish to be in the action or just step back from it all and relax.

They wanted to be sure we made it back from the Gorge before it got dark.

Our bathroom was on the small side and the shower was quite dark.

The building is nice, the breakfast is nice, the service is nice, we were just a bit disappointed by our room(11) with a view on other windows, the strict minimum in the bathroom, wich was actually very tiny and you have to ahve a shower nearly in the dark because the light is not ok. For the bedroom , the furnitures look a bit old and the matress is not very confortable, too soft, so you'd better have a partner of the same weight than you.

I've read some of the negative comments about the rooms (being dark, bad bathrooms, too small, etc) and I feel I must let people know that the rooms have been recently renovated (in fact we were only the second people to stay in our room) earlier this year and these problems have been fixed.

The hotel is over rated -- no view,  shower is revolting,  dark and tiny,  rooms too light,  curtains not lined to prevent early  morning light.

This is a first rate small family owned hotel just the steps from the old venetian Harbor Inn Chania.

We stayed in the Presidential Suite, whose terrace has sweeping views of the old Venetian harbor.

This is a very well styled hotel in the old venetian harbor of Chania.

We had the penthouse room, nicely decorated, with a fantastic private rooftop patio overlooking the beautiful old venetian harbor.

Warming: you should be fit enough to climb one flight of stairs, particularly after s good breakfast!

Note that there are no elevators in the hotel, so you will need to climb the stairs to your room (3rd floor max). .

but it was an amazing place with amazing service, (they even made us a breakfast box to go at 4am to catch a flight) and i took full advantage of the free wine on the roof garden overlooking Chania for the one night. Highly recommend (only dont drink too much as you have to walk down many stairs to go to the bathroom in the night)

however not a good idea for families with small mobile children or for older adults due to the amount of stairs in the room.

(We were surprised to discover that it was up 3 flights of stairs with no elevator.

So when you've walked all day, you really don't feel like trudging three flights of stairs just to get to your room, your deluxe suite.

Travellers may like to be aware that the hotel has a large number of stairs and steps, in some cases not very obvious; there is a lift only in one part of the hotel.

Room was rather small and on 2 levels with a tiny balcony that was almost too small to sit on; marble floors and stairs were lovely

Because the floor space was small, the designer used the height of the room (the hotel is located in an old palace) and put the bed on a landing at the top of a flight of stairs.

If you have difficulty with stairs, mention this when booking as our room had 3 flights to access it.

One caution: only one side of the hotel has a lift so, if you are averse to taking the stairs, ask for that side.

but it was impossible to keep the window open because it goes directly to the stairs, people were walking up and down, therefore it was noisy.

but in case you have difficulties with stairs you might opt for a room accessible by the elevators on the other side of the hotel.

Although we are young and healthy, we didn't want to take those stairs again if we didn't have to!

Situated in a former Venetian mansion this is a very cool little hotel with a courtyard breakfast under a magnificent old tree,  a roof-top bar with awesome views, and located in the heart of old town.

Right in the middle of old town and one block from the water - perfect location.

Hotel is beautiful and in perfect location to explore the Old Town and region of Chania.

It’s a lovely small boutique hotel, in heart of Chania old town.

Hidden in the Old Town streets, the hotel is very quiet despite being literally 2 minutes walk from the harbour front.

Location: Everything is the Old Town is within easy walking and these walks take in the beauty of the old town, you can rent a boat on the doorstep if your feeling adventurous, you can take a horse and carriage ride from further up the harbour or you can visit the many restaurants and bars that exist both in the old town and along the harbourside.

We had easy access in walking distance to Old Town and its many shops and restaurants.

Our first time to Crete and it will not be the last - perfect hotel in a perfect little town.

The hotel is located very close to the heart of the old venetian harbor,

Hotel samaria is situated on the center of the town in Chania, just two minutes on foot from the old venetian harbor.

The location is great, within walking distance to the old venetian harbor and the city center.

The room was small with a very uncomfortable bed, the hot breakfast which was included was usually cold and not great.

A few reservations: our (standard) room was very small, almost too small to accommodate two, and storage was very limited.

The rooms are a bit small (15m2) so it is better to book a higher category room if you like spacious rooms.

Admittedly our room was a little small on arrival and I asked to move, the hotel manager (lady) moved heaven and earth and provided us with a bottle of champers and fruit in a new room.

This place is ok ~ it is safe, super small rooms & probably best for the 20 to 30 year old crowd that can hang with all the road chatter, engine noise & gas fumes.

although some days our fresh towels smelled like cigarettes.

The suites are exquisite, and the prices do not leave you with a hole burned in your pocket.

On the last day of our visit, I believe the pool must’ve been cleaned as the smell of the chemicals used was very strong.

When the patio door is closed you cannot even hear the busses, and the pool has a great water feature to mask the noise as well.

As a non-smoker it was a bit disturbing that smoking was allowed in the pool area and at the breakfast (outside).

* Smoking outdoors by the pool

I used the hotel gym and was able to get a good work out in (to burn off all those fried potatoes)

Food- we only ordered room service once as we wanted to experience food locally.

It smelled of smoke and the cleaning fluid they had used to try to remove the smell.

The only tiny drawback is that it is right beside the bus station and occasionally the noise and smell of engines was noticeable.

It is also in a very safe area of town and convenient to many small coffee shops, bakeries and other places to grab something to eat quickly if you so desire.

I can't fault it to be honest.. and location is super central to the old town - where all the action happens.

but small pool and very convenient for trips into old town and harbour.

It is very close to the old town and great for those with a car as it has valet parking that is super convenient.

The staff were superb, the location just outside the old town was perfect, the rooms were quiet and comfortable and I would give this hotel a complete ten out of ten for everything.

The hotel it is super well located, less than 5 min walk to the Main Street to walk to the Old Town.

The hotel is situated very near to the Old town and harbour which we loved.

The location of the hotel was very convenient - just a 10 minute walk from the old harbour and Chania Old Town, and 15 mins from Neo Chora beach.

It’s a short stroll into town & the harbor.

but the hotel is starting to need some maintenance in some of bathrooms and stains on carpets in corridors .

Cons: road noises are quite bad if you are light sleeper, carpets are very out dated and stains.

Only thing I would suggest is refurbishing the rooms with hard flooring-the carpet is dated and stained and just not in keeping with the rest of the hotel.

but the carpet is way overdue to be changed.

My only complain is about aged carpets resulting a dirty impression on the floor.

The only comment I had was the hallway carpets were full of stain otherwise I could have an 5 star ratings.

The only negative is the condition of the carpet throughout the hotel.

THE BAD: Tiny room, view of the parking lot, stained carpet, tiny (albeit clean) bathroom (with a half glass door which I hate).

Only reason why I don't give it 5 stars is that style-wise this hotel is in need of a guru and a make over, especially the carpets and the small bathrooms need seeing to soon.

The only reason why I do not give Kydon a 5 star review are the hotel's carpets.

Filthy carpets, can hear hallway noise from rooms, and service is poor.

A new/clean carpet plus a tea/coffee maker would have been more in keeping with a 4*.

The fact that it was a 5 minute stroll to the Old Venetian Harbor and tons of cafes and restaurants made it even better.

Bear in mind when booking, Standard double room very small  struggling to find areas for our clothes,   advise to book a larger room.Pool not very deep, not good if you are a lengths swimmer.

Some comments on here that the basic rooms are rather small

A room for two is rather small so if you spend more time in the room, don't choose the basic standard for two.

We did hear comments that the basic rooms were quite small.

I just have one complain about my room that was really small for two peoples.

I believe there are some quite small rooms available, so check the size.

Then rooms were a little on the small side
