We went on two excursions booked via the hotel: one to Santorini via ferry, and the other to Acqua Plus Water Park.

We also walked to the town and around, and checked out the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, coast and the shops.

Food excellent with exception of flavours restaurant poor service poor food and head waiter.aggressive mannor.

For a five star resort you would expect alot better, the shows in an evening at the amphitheatre were very poor with miming to songs and dance routines to which I've seen children do better.

Unfortunately the hotel is situated in a rather poor area.

The only niggles were the cocktails are poor, a bit more effort, say a cherry or something would be nice.

The only minus I must add here is the poor coffee they served at breakfast.

Not only is the selection of food extremely poor in terms of variety, it is also the same every single day without fail, and is of poor quality.

We were told that we could not drink the tap water, due to poor tapwater conditions in Crete and were made to purchase water from the hotel.

Entertainment is very poor, no music on the beach or at pools, just 2 guys singing twice a week in the main restaurant , at dinner, and a pianist twice a week in the main lobby bar.

Check-in/registration: Our negative impression of the hotel stemmed primarily from the poor service and bad attitude we encountered with many of the Candia Maris staff during our stay, and especially during our first night at the hotel.

We had a room very close to the main restaurant which was very clean and comfortable.

We had a nice room with a
 large balcony and a washing line, which came as a bonus.

The rooms are modern with the most air conditioning and fan with a spacious balcony and sea view.

Upgraded room (wow thank you so much, the small touches were noticed)
Sea view rooms are worth it!

Our room was brand new and spotless, and the housekeeping was top-notch.

Beds ,pillows towells all clean as were the rooms .

The rooms are kept clean and the maids leave water daily.

but it was clean and we didn't spend much time in the room so it really didn't matter.

The room (superior) was clean and had a  good size balcony.

Just could not fault the staff, the room, the cleaners and the Spa personnel.

The rooms were very clean and to a good standard

Rooms were very clean and anything we asked for was provided swiftly, extra pillows, new kettle, etc.

Having paid extra for a better standard of room room 234 was more 3 star than 5 star.

Our superior seaview room on ground opening onto grass with pools and beach within stones throw so could enjoy both whenever we wanted was perfect.

From what we saw, the Lux rooms are lovely, some with hot tubs, a few with private pools

The other problem we found was there weren’t any outdoor no smoking areas for those of us who don’t like having smoke constantly blown in your face.

The problem we had was getting up to VERY LOUD ladies from the spa sneaking out for cigarettes.

music was needed outside in the up stairs bar and a non smoking area for outside

Non smokers only had most, not all, of the main restaurant, inside Flavours and inside Wunderbar.

but it was spoilt for me at times when smokers sat near us and we could smell / inhale the smoke.

I also found it strange that alot of the entertainment team can walk around in uniform smoking and sitting in bar areas on their phones and laptop's and generally not looking very professional in their jobs.

Only problem I found was everywhere was exposed to inconsiderate smokers.

but an hour later the smell drove us to ask for a new room.

Similarly, once a table has been vacated, the guests' used plates and cutlery remain on the table for ages -- staff don't bother to come to clear them away so, even if one is lucky enough to find a table at which to sit, one will inevitably find that one is sitting amongst the debris of other people's breakfast at neighbouring tables.

There are lifts so if you are unable to take the stairs you can get around and a gift shop selling cigarettes, confectionary, maps, holiday paraphernalia and books/magazines in numerous languages.

It was small, no air conditioning and a smelly shower curtain.
