but the hotel is a six-minute walk from the Archaeological Museum, which is the main attraction in the city.

Within walking distance to shopping centers,restaurants, cafes, Old Venetian Harbor and the Archaeological Museum and about 20 minute drive from Knossos Palace.

Great location to walk to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum and restaurants.

I stayed one night in early September 2018 for a visit to the Archaeological Museum and Knossos.

Also, the archaeological and the Christian Art Museum as well as the historic museum is all very close.

but just a few minutes walk from the old town, and one of the best archaeological museums - solely focused on Cretan history - ever experienced.

And a 10 minute stroll to the Archaeological Museum and the bustling Eleftherias Square with its cafés and buses to the beach and elsewhere.

The city centre and attractions such as the archaeological museum, the historical museum of Crete, the Castello and the main shopping streets are all within a few minutes walk.

The hotel is within easy walk to the city, archaeological museum, restaurants, and the harbor.

We thought the location was good, walking distance to the ferry port, lots of restaurants and shops, and the archaeological museum.

The city centre is on the doorstep with the archaeological museum and historical museum both within 10 minutes easy walk.

The hotel is located 10 mins walk from the centre of town (shops, restaurants etc) and 10 mins walk from the world-famous archaeological museum.

Definitely worth stopping in Heraklion to visit the Archaeological Museum and the Palace of Knossos and this is the hotel to stay at.

It's very close walking distance to the archaeological museum and the venetian fort, and also very close to the bus station for buses to Knossos and cross-island buses heading west.

In general, this is a modern, elegant, comfortable hotel, situated at the touristic heart of Heraklion, around the corner from the fantastic Archaeological Museum (not to be missed!). Further more, we were upgraded from a standard room to a (junior?)

The location was convenient to everything we wanted to see in Heraklion: the Archaeological Museum and Knossos Palace to which you can take a bus from a bus station just a few steps from the hotel.

A fantastic hotel in a lovely pace overlooking the historic bay in Heraklion, extra large beds and fantastic chambermaids that checked the room several times a day , fresh bedding and towels !

We stayed 3 nights at the GDM Megaron.Very central location on the Venetian Port and close to the Heraklion Town Centre.What a great hotel-impressive rooms and public spaces.Our room (Junior Suite)overlooked the Port.The Bed was super comfortable.Very relaxing.Don’t miss (a)the daily breakfast which is outstanding and (b) the 5th Bar Restaurant.Lovely views over the Port at night.Plus fantastic quality Cretan dishes like Feta Saganaki.Not to be missed.

The rooftop swimming pool, albeit small, was refreshing, clean and delivered beautiful views of heraklion.

During our memorable trip in Heraklion, we had the distinct pleasure of residing at the Megaron Hotel.

Definitively the best hotel in Heraklion and maybe the best in Greece.

The location is very close to the outstanding Heraklion Archeological Museum with its wonderful collection of Minoan artifacts and the sea view from our Balcony was delightful.

The location is ideal for exploring Heraklion and the breakfast is incredible with authentic Cretan ingredients.

Located right at the port the hotel is probably the nicest building in Heraklion.

Not only did the manager not charge us for the room that day, she upgraded us to a corner room because we had such a struggle to get to Heraklion.

I returned to this wonderful hotel for a second time this year and stayed for three weeks: absolutely the best way to enjoy Heraklion and the north shore of Crete is from this superb property.

However, this hotel made quite an impression -- the room was very luxurious and the buffet breakfast was exceptional.

Breakfast was amazing: the food was magnificent!

The hotel buffet breakfast was simply outstanding with the most delicious baked goods, local menu items as well as a variety of yogurts, fresh fruit and toppings.

The breakfast (included in room price) had wonderful options and local pastries.

and of course that famous breakfast buffet.

The breakfast offered a HUGE selection of very good food.

Well located,  generous size rooms, roof-top pool & bar and one of the best regional breakfasts we have had in Greece - a seriously good breakfast!

Very nice buffet breakfast, a gym and a rooftop lap pool and friendly staff.

When we asked for coffee, we were each given individual stainless steel coffee carafes so we could pour our own refills. The breakfast itself was the most lavish of any of the great breakfasts we experienced in Athens and three islands (and in Greece that's saying something! )

Now the breakfast, was MARVELOUS as was the staff.

In particular Irene’s joyous greeting and enthusiastic service every morning started my day with a wide smile and the breakfast buffet is the best I’ve encountered in 20+ years of luxury travel with its local delicacies and fresh ingredients.

Breakfast is WOW, fantastic room with a view to the Venetian Port, rooftop pool and a great central location.

Walkable to port, bus station, shops, restaurants and museums.

They offer you water and a baked treat, are pleasant throughout the process, then they pull out a local map and start highlighting places they recommend from restaurants to museums and tours.

Location was quite good, two minute walk from the esplnade along the medterranean and no more than 10 minute walk up a moderate hill to the Archeological museum as well as the history museum and tons of restaurants.

They are wrong, it's a great small city right on the ocean with a good cafe culture, an amazing archeological museum and the best food I had in Greece.

It is walking distance to the shops,museums and restaurants.

Good accommodation, excellent dinner at the rooftop restaurant.

The check-in process was quick, friendly, and professional, and the restaurant with a view of the harbour accepted us immediately and provided good food and friendly service.

Staff was marvelous and quite helpful with suggestions for dinner.

We were within five minutes walk from shops and restaurants so very handy !

but the view from it and the 5th floor restaurant are the best in the city and I found it an excellent place to rest in the afternoon before dinner.

The restaurant and the service was perfect.

Best of all is the incredible breakfast brunch spread.

The 5th floor roof top pool and restaurant area was amazing, it has stunning views over the harbour, a great place to while away the late afternoon and enjoy the sunset.

We ate in the rooftop restaurant which was also very nice.

although the food and service are very good.

The food at the rooftop restaurant was delicious too and also offers an open air terrace.

The view from the pool and rooftop restaurant are terrific.

Our room was not affected by the noise and was very comfortable.

We moved to a non-suite room (right next door) and it was just as nice

Even if you don't snag that room, GDM Megaron is first class all the way.

Service was fantastic and the rooms were very nice.

Our room was luxurious, with a great view of the harbour and Venetian castle lit up at night.

Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable and the bathroom was decent.

There’s a pool on the fifth floor a gym with excellent machines and a sauna /hot tub / steam room ( you have to book and pay extra for this ) The restaurant for evening meals has a good choice

We had a lovely VIP room which has a great view of the port and fortress.

Comfortable room, excellent water pressure, fast Wi-Fi, beautiful views, delicious food, and friendly staff.

The hotel room was clean and well appointed.

5 star hotel great staff fabulous breakfast room was fab great beds great sleep BUT.

The front desk staff were eager to please.

Irene and the staff were super kind, attentive and friendly towards us.

The decaf cappuccino coffee was the very best from a two week tour and the staff could not be more helpful and accommodating.

The location is right in the middle of Heraklion with food and shops within walking distance and right next to the bus stop out to Knossos as well as the archaeological museum.

Capsis is a well-known Greek hotel brand and this hotel occupies a prime location in Heraklion right across from the Archaeological Museum, which is iconic and a must for any visit to Crete.

The archaeological museum is one block away, and buses to other cities are just down the hill (though it was a hot walk on an afternoon in May).

The Astoria Hotel is right in the center of Heraklion just across the street from The Archaeological Museum.

The location is the best thing about this hotel - right by the Archaeological Museum, shops and restaurants.

Location is 5 star, a very pleasant and very short walk tp the most animated areas, a few steps from the Archaeological Museum and bus stops (bus 1 to the airport is 40meters away, bus 2 to Knossos even closer)
Rooms are well equipped and with balcony (4stars well deserved there) , AC works great as odes WiFI all over the hotel.

It’s in the town and really close to Knossos, Archaeological museum and there is a bus stop right outside.

As soon as we finished touring the Palace, we took a quick coffee break at the hotel cafe, then walked across the street to the Archaeological Museum.

The location is superb, right across the street from the Archaeological Museum and the main part of town.

My second floor room was quiet (overlooking the pedestrianized area) and had an honest-to-gosh bathtub -- while a shower gets you clean only a soaking bath relieves the muscles after a hard day in the archaeological ruins!

I was primarily interested in visiting Minoan sites, so the proximity of the archaeological museum and the bus stop to Knossos made this a perfect location.

It is literally metres away from the amazing Archaeological Museum, and there are bus stations around the square to take you anywhere you like for a cheap fare (we visited Knossos and we loved it!).

Hotel location is in central Heraklion opposite Eleftherias Square and adjacent to the Archaeological Museum (which is world class and not to be missed).

Capsis has a lovely rooftop pool area with great views and a bar with dinner menu.

Heraklion is a truly bustling and Cosmopolitan city.

As usual the breakfasts were excellent and the roof top pool useful as it's quite a way out of Heraklion before you get to the nearest beach.

We came as walk in guests and stayed from the 3. to the 4. of October at Astoria in Heraklion.

This is my favorite and inexpensive place to stay every time I come to Heraklion.

I would recommend it to anyone staying in Heraklion.

Was in the middle of the Heraklion and it has near a lot of restaurants and buses.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for someone who wants to stay in the heart of Heraklion.

The Astoria hotel is a local landmark in Heraklion Crete and serves as a great base for the visitor.

The one saving grace of this hotel is the location, although not great if you want a nice view from the balcony -

This is an excellent budget hotel with a perfect location.

Rooftop pool & bar lovely & central location was fabulous for sightseeing.

I am really surprised that more people don't go up there at that time to enjoy the views and chill out because it really is a wonderful location and I felt so peaceful and chilled listening to the music and watching the sun go down.

I highly recommend it to all who need a comfortable, centrally located place to stay!

Staff is amazing, located in the heart of herkaloin which is my top 3 cities in all of Greece.

The hotel was very comfortable and quiet, the food great and the location superb.

We spent our 1st 4 nights in Heraklion and the location was excellent on the old town , so close to the port and next door to the architectural museum.

This hotel is conveniently located at the Eleftherias (Freedom) Square near the Archeological Museum and many restaurants among other places.

If you are visiting the Archeological museum this is the place to have coffee and treat yourself with a free sweat.

It is located near the acheological museum, bus stops (where you can take the bus to Knossos Palace), and many restaurants.

A real benefit of the hotel is its location close to shops, restaurants and the museum.

It is just opposite the excellent new Archaeological Museum and well placed for restaurants, the harbour and shops.

Keep in mind this is a CITY, so expect night noise.

It was quite noisy in the square in front of the hotel  (skate boarders)

The seals around the doors and windows didn't seem to be as effective as they could be at keeping the noise out.

even though we overlooked a center area and there was some traffic the doors were very sound proof.

We were not disturbed by that because our schedule was more open.

There is a lot of activity happening inside/outside the building so it is noisy.

but because it is the side away from the  busy, noisy square.

Had to ask 3 times within 2 days for a mattress topper, hearing each time this will not be a problem before one of the receptionist told us they actually had none.

but you could hear chairs scraping and being moved, people walking around, overall a terrible nights sleep after  a long day out.

CONS
-There was a constant puddle of water outside on our balcony, not sure what from.

Cons: 
The only reason we didn't give a 5 was due to the balcony having a leak of some sort and having a large metal pipe constantly vibrating and making noise, it couldn't be heard once the door was closed though.

BAD: Location (good for traveller, less good for sleeping as can be noisy).

I have read reviews complaining about the noise from the rooftop bar.

At first, it is a little noisy because of its location also due to it is in Greece.

We used search engine to find budget accommodation, and somehow ended up in this hotel.
