We were aware that the hotel required a card against which it services could be charged during our stay.

The only downside during my stay is that I was overcharged on my credit card and had to follow-up with them to get feedback on the refund.

I called a few days prior to my stay and he was dismissive and his tone of voice is not something that should be in charge of answering phone calls.

The front desk staff missed to charge the lunch we just had as it was too recent so i told her to include it into my bill which she was grateful for.

She said the transaction didn't go through.

There are very few outlets to charge our devices, with none on the bedside tables, such that my husband and I had to take turns charging our phones every night in the desk, and our daughter, who was catching up with her classes online while on an opposite time zone, had to do it in their bathroom.

As the only 5* hotel on Cebu it doesn't leave much of a choice, perhaps this is why Shangdi La feel like they can get away with charging extra for absolutely everything.

But now it has gone down south to a 3.5 resort with old rooms, charge for everything philosophy, uncontrolled yelling kids resort, long lines at breakfast, hard selling tactics at front desk during a long very long check-in

Lets start with check-in: Awful! Long!

However, I personally would recommend that you look elsewhere because, while the Shangri-La is no doubt a beautiful and prestigious hotel, the quality of service and especially the food does not quite live up to its billing.

but there is a charge for a bottle of water at the pool!

(strange argument considering that room charges are also much higher during peak season. ).

The latter was charged as “kids pasta with meat balls”

- Dining not great if you need Gluten Free; 
- Charge for everything, even a splash of milk for your tea.

During busy times you will easily wait 30 minutes for your turn and at every visit so far there have been erroneous charges on the bill which is annoying and spoils the check out experience.

Until I discovered they over charged my by 16k pesos I had to go back and they gave me a refund

What I didn't know when we ate there is that this place is authorized to charge about 33% tax.Of course, if you don't ask, no one will tell you.

but this is the first resort we have seen which charges extra for kids play area.

When my wife put me in charge of picking places to stay during our trip to the Philippines, I hesitated on selecting the Shangi-La due to its price, especially relative to other properties.

They charge 5,000 pesos for an 1 hour massage.

The kids facilities are top notch, our toddler enjoyed it every single day.

We had a perfect stay, as expected the rooms, food and beverage offerings and facilities were all top notch.

especially when the hotel was already pretty empty I reported this on two occassions including face to face and the staff did not seem to understand english very well, for a 5 star hotel this was terrible Finally received a call asking if we wanted to move, we were only there one day and this call came in at 9pm at night 

Food at breakfast and dinner was excellent if pricey

Other than the outstanding breakfast buffet, our dining experiences were quite average, and quite expensive.

Put a sour note on the trip for me I expect to pay premium prices for service,food and drinks etc

However, the price of the mud crab that we ordered was not transparent on the menu.

Given the price point of this hotel, I cannot recommend this hotel to the demographic who could afford the rates.

I reviewed the hotel policy and it says nothing about this, the policy about visitors is that they cannot stay inside the room past 10pm and if they stay beyond 10pm they need to register and pay the extra person fee.

Two problems with this visit: (1) the food was poor - Shangri La seemed to be cutting down on costs by delivering cheap street food.

Morning came and we all had breakfast at Tides since the room only came with 2 free breakfast for 2 adults, we readily paid for the nanny's breakfast.

We paid 20-30 pesos more for each I think.

For the price I was paying, I was expecting a bit more high end.

After 10 minutes of the receptionist being on the phone, she informed us that we would get driven to the airport for no charge (which is not exactly accurate, because we actually had prepaid for that airport shuttle in our room rate).

However the rooms are very tired fro a 5 star hotel and you have to pay for everything!!

We were offered compensation of a reduction of a said amount per night (turns out the compensation was in fact the room rate difference between a sea view and “garden view” ) Therefore this was not a compensation, it was quite simply the difference in room rates!

I really having hard time to understand the prices for country as Philippines (most of the people here need to say "good buy" to no less then 1 month salary for 1 night stay.

This being said, the Shangri-La Mactan Resort & Spa is still a good hotel, it’s just not as great as it used to be.

The spa is this hotels hidden gem, its vast, one of the biggest I've been to.

I also opted to do a massage at the spa which was phenomenal.

It was our last day in Cebu when we decided to take our extended Filipino family out to dinner at Shangdi-La resort and spa for dinner.

if you want bigger room (still for 2 people only) you will say "good buy"  to a lot of money. The services of the hotel (spa , massage.  )

My kids came here for their  bonding time last year everything was perfect and to be honest we've been recommending this Hotel/resort to people who wants to visit Cebu from Maryland USA   me and my husband will come visit the Philippines again next year and will definitely book Shangri-la Mactan Resort and Spa again !! !

I had a couple of massages which was great.

Had the Chi spa signature Philippines massage and it was excellent.

A picturesque resort in every corner, poolside, beachfront, marine sanctuary, spa, eco trail. etc.

The staff said that its very rare that they can get taxi around 3 am and said that they don’t have available vehicle as well.

Every staff went out of their way to greet you, from the gardeners to the managers.

Boracay and BGC anticipates your needs while Shangrila Mactan staff are very reactive and complacent.i

The staff throughout the property was extraordinarily nice, polite, and helpful.

They didn’t bother to notify that it has been processed already.

I've been here for several times specially before pandemic I can say they wwre able to maintain the beautiful ambiance of the whole resort what a great job to housekeeping, landscape maintenance team and most specially to the superb service of the pool life guard Nelius whos been doing a superb 5 stars service like before you ask for a hotel the towel is already in your hands i  never experienced that on my Shangrila resort visits even in Boracay, Makati and Edsa Shangrila keep up the amazing job Nel!

We were greeted with welcome drinks of local ‘kalamansi’ juice which was very refreshing.

I would like to commend that their staff like Mr  John Bacatan has a high IQ and fast grasp of the details  of my stay.

I would like to commend the  Room Reservation Team for handling  our accomodations efficiently last July 12-14 despite the huge volume of guests( as we  were part of a big event ).

This is like our second home, the warm hospitality and welcoming smiles, make it harder for us to leave this place, so worth it!

Hotel was stunning and the staff were amazing then went to the hotel shop for some sunscreen and the shock at 2500 peso for something that was under 750 anywhere else in Cebu.

Great resort and enjoyed their cozy infinity pool and water activities.

Room, beach area, motorized beach activities,  infinity pool, gym, food, internet speed, grounds and the friendly service-attitude of staff were all 1st class.

I did swimming, kayaking, fish feeding, and superb lunch at Azure.

The toys were of good quality and it had enough activities that kept my toddler entertained during our 12 day stay.

Enye was a gift when it opened on the weekend as the food was delicious - sadly the other venues were just okay.

Grace at Enya, Jamal at the water sports, Nico at check in, all went out of their way to make us feel comfortable.

Plenty of activities to do… will definitely consider staying there again!

It has two huge, beautiful swimming pools, one located near the beach and the other one in Crimzone.

The beach is astonishing with all the colorful fishes and the lifeguards were vigilant all the time.

For our engagement proposal the staff went all out to set-up a Beautiful White Clothed table on the beach with a Canopy surrounded by fairy lights with a torch lit walkway and a heart on the sand made of strings of light.

The beach has a lot of fishes, a couple of corals and anemones.

I would like to say those at the beach towel counter there were 3 of them at around 12noon and they were MOST helpful!

Most of the staff are friendly and helpful.

Our kids enjoyed their playtime and loved the trampoline, thanks to the attentive and friendly staffs namely Hazel and Jenny of Crimzone.

Check in counters and concierge are helpful and friendly.

Crimson is a bit tucked away from everything, which means transport can be a bit of an issue at times (either by getting a taxi or calling a Grab),

To get to these, you need to call a taxi.

However, the cleaner did not leave any fresh towels :( so I had to call the housekeeping.

I tried calling the day manager's direct phone number

Crimson care service even at 8/9pm no one answers your call.

It took 3 calls to finally get them delivered!

but they need to check on something (sanitation) they will just call me if it’s all good.

We have to call again the next day, to re-confirm since we already had trust issues with this resort who couldn’t get instructions right.

It took us quite some time to call their attention.

You have to call the reception at least 3-5 times even then they still won’t take the call.

- During dinner time, we tried to call Azure for room service.

disadvantage:
1. there was not enough outlet at bed side for charging phone.

but lacking on details such as adequate room lighting, a bathtub drain that required a knife to open, overly soft water supply made it time-consuming to rinse off, room service and concierge never answered the phone on less than 10-20 rings, no roving drink waiter at the pool or beach.

I kept calling room service again and again and they kept forwarding me to the restaurant then telling me to call in a few minutes because no one is picking up.

Although when I used the phone to call for operator for lobby and other concerns, the phone system needs to be updated.

But sad to say that their service and treatment to customers is not as it used to and worst is we felt unsafe when my sister lost her money, wedding ring and a pair of earrings.

when my husband had a cut in his feet (he got it before we checked-in at the resort) and needed band-aid, we called the operator to ask some, and right away, someone rang the doorbell in our room and it was the resort nurse who brough the band aid.

It would have never been the same without these amazing staff members who I am lucky to call our friends.

but the staff has managed to keep this damaged vibe and the ongoing construction well away from the guests.

The staffs were very nice and we greatly appreciate how they treat and accomodate their guests.
