We loved the breakfast and found walking to the train station and Portofino easy and enjoyable.

From the morning pastries to the dessert, it was all delicious.

The breakfast buffet was plentiful and perfect before we left for sightseeing for the day We loved our stay at Grand Hotel Miramare and highly recommend it!

Breakfast was absolutely lovely and we enjoyed it each day on the front porch of the hotel overlooking the sea.

It is set back from the road, with a more glamorous breakfast service, and a more romantic atmosphere.

The restaurant - the food is delicious and you will not find a better view anywhere - be it Portofino or Santa Marguerita.

Whatever you want, they deliver to your room, and it’s all delicious.

It was so relaxing to have the GHM as our base for the week as we knew each night was open air sleeping on wonderful Frette linens and each morning was breakfast on the outdoor terrace of the Vistamare restaurant.

Breakfast is a full spread and several bars around the hotel have fantastic cocktails and views.

This hotel is beautiful, the staff is attentive, and the food is delicious.

The hotel amenities are plentiful and well maintained.

but worth every penny to lounge on the terrace in the afternoons or enjoy the complimentary and expansive breakfast at our leisure.

Also, breakfast on the terrace was lovely.

Breakfast was served outside on the terrace - overlooking the beautiful bay.

but the breakfast was perfect overlooking the sea just beyond.

The beds and pillows were comfortable and commodious, spotlessly clean, and the breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea was delightful.

Breakfast on the terrace is the best possible start to the day and an evening cocktail overlooking the sea is a must.

Due to Covid, buffet breakfasts are served by waiters- you point and they give you a plate.

Location of the hotel is breathtaking, Restaurant (wend there for breakfast only, as we wanted to explore the area) with great staff and nice choice of delights.

The room we received in 2019 was a room half the size of the room in 2018 (which was a downgraded room).It was so cramped we had to put a suitcase in the bathroom in order to maneuver around the room.

That matters a lot to us as we rely on restaurant recommendations and in this case advice on the complicated train trips to and from Cinque Terre.

A case of food poisoning due to bad seafood from another restaurant in Santa Margherita prevented me from having dinner here.

These days international hotels of a similar standard offer bathrooms that are very elegant and comfortable, sadly this is not the case here.

but don't do it if you are with suitcases.

Unfortunately – as is often the case – the hotel has limited parking available so charges EUR25 for the privilege.

Downside was that the website mentioned a heated pool which unfortunately was not the case.

but with a little chlorine added (I suppose just in case).

but the water was too cold in any case so it was fine) and many others!

The train station is about one mile from the hotel, so convenient to walk if you are not with bags-- Better to walk back as it is downhill.

As guests departed, some of the tables were then laid for lunch, so that the attending guests were packed together into the same area and in some cases there was just a few inches space between the tables.

As is often the case, the only downside was the expensive parking.

at least here i can honestly say you are getting full value for your money, something that is certainly not always the case in europe.

but at the Miramare i believe you truly get full value for what you pay, something that is not always the case in many places in italy (and other countries!).

Special mention to Elizabetta at reception and also the main lady at breakfast who has been extremely helpful assisting in sterilising our baby bottles in the microwave each morning.

I have stayed one night with the family, experience just amazing all staff from front desk to ladies at the restaurant for breakfast extremely kind.

All the staff from breakfast room, the bar, the pool and spa staff and room service staff are all rendering high standard service that makes people come back.

Breakfast was nice there was always something to have great selection of  fresh warm pastries which we really enjoyed.

But also here, little attention to clients: I asked for spinach (out of the menu) I got them frozen and tasteless and they were charged 17€!

We went to the infinity pool and spent an afternoon and it was like spending a day in a post card.

Limited hot meal options in the breakfast menus otherwise good .The room service was Ammazing ,my wife was unwell and the breakfast was in the room in no time for a very small charge , The rooms were exceptionally clean with grate bay view.

Taxi driver charge an extra 2.50 euros for waiting.

Another guest out of the blue complained to me about a meal charge.

but we were charged for mini bar items we didn’t have and as my husband is either a) too trusting to EVER check a bill or b) too British to mention the error, I didn’t discover this until we arrived home.

And free parking is limited, so you'll probably be charged 16 euros/night for the use of the underground garage.

However when a hotel is 5 star one expects great service, we had a few incidents such as airconditioning not working for12 hours, our key cards cancelled twice during our stay, such that we could not get into our rooms, we felt as

Water - many luxury hotels offer water free, this hotel gives you a small bottle 250 ml between two of you - only people in suites get two bottles??

Only drawback - coming in and going out by foot (mainly coming in) requires a steep climb

Only quip we had was extra charge for wi-fi in the rm at a luxury hotel.

However, a new one of these scooters could be purchased for $6,000 and they charged me over $1,400 to paint some scrapes and maybe replace some of the trim.

It took housekeeping less than five minutes to provide us with two adapters when we requested them for charging our Australian equipment.

When you pay all the money, you expect all the service.

The hotel is a little tired - has that 1960's Italian hotel feel - acres of marble floors, lots of confused furniture with 18th C portraits and 70's leather couches
The breakfast was very very poor for the room prices.

but the smell of damp and the outdated and tired rooms do not command the nightly fee.

Many things doesn’t work, the service is not good and the prices are completely unfair - its way to expensive.

It was mediocre at best and ignoring the fact that it was undoubtedly overpriced, the quality was simply nothing to write home about.

Multiple request for ice to our room went without said ice being delivered and a request for an iron which in any other 5 start hotel is a basic room amenity was met with a rather perplexing explanation that they could not provide one for ‘security reasons’ no further explanation to what this security issue could was able to be provided other then they have a paid service available which would not allow for pressing before dinner on arrival in any case.

It was clear that they hardly ever receive Black guests that don't need to scratch their heads about how to pay for a hotel since we paid for the place before arriving.

but beware of the steep prices (undoubtedly due to the upmarket clientele and the locality).

That can’t be said of the hotel manager ; she didn’t show any flexibility nor empathy when we had to depart early for personal reasons .Am pretty sure our already pre paid rooms our now sold again , so the hotel making an advantage of our circumstances.

The bar is incredibly expensive and I mean incredibly.

but the savings may cost you dearly in DRAMA.

TV system not very English friendly, and our went out both nights with wifi issues.

The taxi driver didn’t use the meter and claimed that it was a set fee (the internet claims it should have been a maximum of 20e).

I had some trouble accessing the WIFI from the room,

Throughout our travels we always use the same code number so we put our valuables in and closed the safe using our code.

Our AC didn’t work in our room, WiFi access didn’t work in our room either.

Internet is not working god so we could not have wifi really that is problem and how is this possible we did not understand 5 star hotel and you dont have strong wifi.

Our room was on the fifth floor and there was no chance to connect to internet.

but almost couldn't connect our devices through the wifi.

The hotels Wi Fi was way far from functional, almost as old as hotels design.

My only complaint was that the wifi logged out immediately after you stopped using it for a couple of minutes and required a long login process to renew access.

The Aircon and wifi issue plus the coffee issue lost the hotel its fifth star.

Wifi is poor for 5* hotel, reception was the best area, and down by the pool you need a different login, and each time it asks for your login :(

Angelo was very helpful at reception with excursions and general information.

Wifi is extremely slow I had to use data roaming many times since I could not even check my mails or read the news.

There's also a cute outdoor cafe that serves snacks and lunch; again the food was delicious.

The restaurant at the hotel is very beautiful and wonderful for both dinner and breakfast.

The hotel charged a fee for the lounge chairs which was disappointing.

Older people play cards up by the cabanas.

Be aware that there is an additional 15 euro charge for parking (this is pretty standard for Italian hotels) and that the walk back to the hotel from town involves a bit of a hill.

but loungers on the hotel's beachfront attract a daily charge.

A few issues with providing copies of documents initially, and was a bit put off that they charge you 15€ parking when it's their carp park.

At 370 Euro plus parking charges for a suite on a busy (full) Friday night, the Metropole isn't the most expensive place in Santa Margherita.

but it is not OK to charge extra for a bunch of things when you give a 'all inclusive' impression on your website.

but I would like to point out that it is unfair to criticise the hotel for charging 15 euros a day for this, as it is quite usual for a town hotel in Europe to charge for car parking.

Then there are some additional charges which I don't think acceptable -- 15 euros a day for parking at the hotel & similar amount for having a sun bed on the lido: you can have a deck chair for free

So we had to argue with them and they finally let us charge the massages as part of our hotel bill.

The man in charge during the morning buffet seemed in a bad mood and was sort of slamming things around as

although there is a price for loungers here, 16€ I think.

but, in my opinion, it was too expensive according to what ordered).

If you have children, be prepared to pay an extra cost even if you book a suite.

The sign said it was €20 for the buffet and you have to pay another 5/6€ for an egg to order?????

If you get a taxi it will cost you fifteen euros and it really is a two minute walk.

Only complainant you must pay 16 euros for the loungers on the ocean.

but like everything in Portofino overpriced.

We met people staying a hotel nearby that was double the price and their experience was not nearly as positive as ours!
