Keep in mind the beaches “close” in October.

The hotel is a classic beauty with very nice interiors quaint rooms and a stunning view across the bay.

We loved our off days spent at the beach and the pool area.

It is important to note that the beach is public-

Convenient beach club opposite the hotel.

The location of the hotel is great. An easy walk to the town or to the beach (right across the street.)

It is the only beach area in Santa Margherita or Portofino to speak of.

Our beautiful room looked out over the Ligurian Sea and the coastline.

We were blessed with brilliant sunshine and therefore able to experience all the outdoor offerings from the pool, to the outdoor terraces, to a beach stroll, to the splendor of the park and the sentimental walk. We highly recommend staying at the GHM, whether it be for a couple of nights (one night would be such a tease!)

We particularly enjoyed the beautiful pool, and the beach.

though it is a tourist area like the Amalfi coast, it is filled with Italian visitors enjoying the lovely seaside passegiatas and lively appertif hours we had come to love.

We loved going across the street to the beach club and swimming in the Ligurian Sea.

Breakfast was served outside on the terrace - overlooking the beautiful bay.

We enjoyed sitting in the evenings on the terrace bar sipping on local wine, listening to the soft piano music, and watching the glittering lights across the bay as the sun went down - Perfection!

The Ligurian coast, with its mild winters and semi-tropical flowers, used to be a favourite for English and American travellers

We enjoyed a few days at the pool and a few days at the beach club.

We loved the breakfast and found walking to the train station and Portofino easy and enjoyable.

From the morning pastries to the dessert, it was all delicious.

The breakfast buffet was plentiful and perfect before we left for sightseeing for the day We loved our stay at Grand Hotel Miramare and highly recommend it!

Breakfast was absolutely lovely and we enjoyed it each day on the front porch of the hotel overlooking the sea.

It is set back from the road, with a more glamorous breakfast service, and a more romantic atmosphere.

The restaurant - the food is delicious and you will not find a better view anywhere - be it Portofino or Santa Marguerita.

Whatever you want, they deliver to your room, and it’s all delicious.

It was so relaxing to have the GHM as our base for the week as we knew each night was open air sleeping on wonderful Frette linens and each morning was breakfast on the outdoor terrace of the Vistamare restaurant.

Breakfast is a full spread and several bars around the hotel have fantastic cocktails and views.

This hotel is beautiful, the staff is attentive, and the food is delicious.

The hotel amenities are plentiful and well maintained.

but worth every penny to lounge on the terrace in the afternoons or enjoy the complimentary and expansive breakfast at our leisure.

Also, breakfast on the terrace was lovely.

but the breakfast was perfect overlooking the sea just beyond.

The beds and pillows were comfortable and commodious, spotlessly clean, and the breakfast on the terrace overlooking the sea was delightful.

Breakfast on the terrace is the best possible start to the day and an evening cocktail overlooking the sea is a must.

Due to Covid, buffet breakfasts are served by waiters- you point and they give you a plate.

Location of the hotel is breathtaking, Restaurant (wend there for breakfast only, as we wanted to explore the area) with great staff and nice choice of delights.

The room we received in 2019 was a room half the size of the room in 2018 (which was a downgraded room).It was so cramped we had to put a suitcase in the bathroom in order to maneuver around the room.

That matters a lot to us as we rely on restaurant recommendations and in this case advice on the complicated train trips to and from Cinque Terre.

A case of food poisoning due to bad seafood from another restaurant in Santa Margherita prevented me from having dinner here.

These days international hotels of a similar standard offer bathrooms that are very elegant and comfortable, sadly this is not the case here.

but don't do it if you are with suitcases.

Unfortunately – as is often the case – the hotel has limited parking available so charges EUR25 for the privilege.

Downside was that the website mentioned a heated pool which unfortunately was not the case.

but with a little chlorine added (I suppose just in case).

but the water was too cold in any case so it was fine) and many others!

The train station is about one mile from the hotel, so convenient to walk if you are not with bags-- Better to walk back as it is downhill.

As guests departed, some of the tables were then laid for lunch, so that the attending guests were packed together into the same area and in some cases there was just a few inches space between the tables.

As is often the case, the only downside was the expensive parking.

at least here i can honestly say you are getting full value for your money, something that is certainly not always the case in europe.

but at the Miramare i believe you truly get full value for what you pay, something that is not always the case in many places in italy (and other countries!).

There are much better restaurants in Santa Magherita Ligure.

We had great meals in Portofino and Vernazza so it's great to explore the neighboring towns.

Walking distance to ferry, downtown restaurants, shopping, and sites.

So many wonderful shops, restaurants, and wine bars…and some of the best gelato we had in Italy.

Had outstanding views, food, spa treatments and rest.

After dinner every evening,  we looked forward to having an after dinner cocktail on the patio listening to the wonderful piano player.

The poolside summer restaurant under a pergola is gorgeous.

Also - make sure you pre-book a taxi into town and back - we went in twice for dinner and were stranded. .

The front desk assisted us with making dinner reservations, transfer arrangements and directions.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, particularly the restaurant and pool staff, who went above and beyond to ensure that we had a memorable stay.

We ended up eating in the restaurant 2 of our 3 nights there (we actually cancelled a reservation that we had in Portofino)  b/c it was such a great experience and I'll say it again,  the best view anywhere.

But the town itself is really lovely, with great restaurants and fun shopping, without all the normal tourists!

We took a taxi to the restaurant and the driver told us to wait in the car because it looked quiet..of course it was it wasn’t even open!!!!

The pool side area was wonderful and the bar a great spot for a pre night out cocktail.

They fileted our fish at our table - and the seabass is to die for.

And lunch by the pool, with the most beautiful view of the sea, was perfection.

The sun streaming in the windows with the serene colors of the room was gorgeous.

The room was spacious and had an extremely comfortable bed.

We had a jr. suite with park view and while we loved the room - the patio was visible by a whole section of the other building and had no privacy.

The room was large, comfortable and clean.

Lastly, we definitely appreciated the size and quality of the hotel's fitness room, which was well-stocked with a variety of fitness and training equipment.

Reception staff gave us a tour of the Hotel before taking us to our room, & that rarely happens.

The rooms were  spacious and comfortable, with excellent coffee, waters and snacks provided.

Rooms overlooking the sea are stunning and windows thick enough to block the busy street traffic when needed.

Our room was very nice with a patio just off the pool.

The staff is so friendly and approachable, our room was lovely and bright, and the pool is beyond gorgeous.

The rooms were beautifully appointed, and very comfortable.

The rooms and bathroom are quite large with large closets.

We were able to get to the other towns and do our own tour with the help of the front desk.

The hotel pool staff was amazingly attentive too so we enjoyed both the pool and beach.

Top class with all the quiet luxury you’d expect with first class, genuinely nice and attentive staff.

The service staff, particularly at the pool restaurant, were just wonderful.

but I have been to many 5-star hotels and never experienced the “robotic-ness” and stiffness of a reception staff.

Visited as a a couple and we were underwhelmed by the attitude of the staff both at the reception and at the spa.

I never felt like we were bothering them…they always greeted us warmly.

High attention to detail, great staff & service, and simply stunning.

The staff is fantastic and we never had a single problem as we had multiple issues that were immediately handled.

The staff, especially Stefano, the younger concierge, could not have been more helpful and informative.

The porters just looked at us bewildered and didn’t know what to do.

We booked a 6 night stay sight unseen at the GHM and were rewarded everyday with wonderful accommodations, staff that believed in “eye-to-eye” communication style, and a calmness and kindness that was radiant.

Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Our room was large with a balcony facing the pool and ocean.

The food is amazing, the service was impeccable, and the views are breathtaking.

The view from our balcony was just gorgeous.

The sea was crystal clear and quite lovely to swim in.

The terrace with the view of the garden has a nice sun screen so it could be enjoyed all times of the day.

We were pleasantly surprised by the size and location of the swimming pool, which had amazing views from the pool deck, with plenty of lounge chairs available for guests.

though we still had a Park View room it was very spacious with a walk in closet.

Because the hotel was not full at this time of year, we were upgraded to a suite with a balcony, giving us stunning views of the Ligurian Sea.

The location with its incredible views, the staff, the service all were exceptional.

but soak in the view and beauty of this region of Italy, as was our purpose this trip.

Grounds are beautiful and elegant, especially loved the pool area and vistamare restaurant balcony, magical views!

The most delicious Neapolitan pizza we ever ate, stunning view of Genoa Bay and Portofino harbor, elegant rooms.

Shuttle bus so convenient to Portofino town or Baja Paraggi, you must try their beach club, amazing day there.

The rooms overlook a beautiful bay that is simply magical.

The hotel has a stunning view of the Portofino Bay.

We’re glad we’ve seen it and the beautiful nearby coastline,

The hotel also set up two separate private boat tours on different days for us - one an all-day tour up and down the coast on an Acquariva and the other a sunset cruise on the hotel’s private boat with Captain Roberto (special thanks for taking some of the best photos we got of ourselves as a couple throughout our entire time in Italy).

From the moment we arrived we could feel the history of the hotel - The hotel is truly beautiful, perfect location (regular shuttles to the port or a simple 10 min walk) and offers panoramic views of Portofino and the Ligurian coast.

My wife and I have travelled extensively throughout the world and have been privileged to stay in many of the worlds best hotels from the Gritti Palace in Venice, Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville, Datai in Langkawi, Four Seasons in Chiang Mai, Prince De Galle in Paris, Villa Gallici in Aix-en-Provence, Hotel D’Angleterre in Copenhagen, Mystique on Santorini, St Regis Florence etc and believe we know a good product.

Sitting on the balcony overlooking the breathtaking view of the cove while sipping complimentary champagne and listening to "Love in Portofino” live is indeed the BEST experience anyone could ask for.

We have stayed at this unique special  hotel  several times over the years once before in the presidential suite and this time the glicine suite with a stupendous balcony with of course that view of the bay of which we can never tire .

They chartered us a boat to tour around the coast of Portofino, set up a spa day perfectly, gave us a shuttle into town and back, and took care of many other request we had such as finding special flowers and locating us a special cake customized to our request.

Breakfast, which was excellent , was available to guests either in the Dining Room or on the Terrace which overlooks the bay of Portofino !

Amazing view on Portofino Bay, Amazing swiming pool, Amazing garden, excellent services, excellent cocktails on the terrace, beautifull room, time is suspended, hard to leave.

In summary, this is an absolute perfect hotel with an amazing view over Portofino Bay and fantastic people loving their job.

My room had a beautiful balcony on the bay, the service absolutely perfect.

This hotel towers over the bay of Positano and offers a really impressive view. The service on the terrace was impeccable and we had the best and most memorable Bellini with freshly squeezed white peaches and lots of love :-)

We were very kindly treated to an upgrade on arrival to a very well appointed suite which has a beautiful terrace overlooking the bay, lovely comfy bed and luxurious bathroom with all the amenities you could wish for.

The people at the frontdesk were super friendly and we got a very nice suite with a fantastic view down to the bay.

but wouldn't go back as it's exorbitantly expensive and the rooms are old and tired and you're paying for the view.

The only downside is how costly the hotel is.

but needs to up it's game in terms of attention to detail - not because it's bad, in fact it's very, very good - but because it's close to the most expensive place on this planet and should be correspondingly mind blowing.

but at the price point I definitely thought there were a few things that could be improved.

As far as European hotels go it is not outrageously priced.

It’s extraordinarily expensive for what it is,

I have found some Belmonds to have overpriced restaurants

Here it appears that only those spending a certain amount for the rooms are the ones who deserve a good treatment, while those paying “cheaper” rates and not tipping the staff, do not deserve an equal treatment.

Since we are not going to pay such a ridiculous price for a simple bottle of wine, we ordered the second least expensive one, which was 70eu.

but not outstanding and we ate better and at more reasonable prices elsewhere in Portofino.

A little on the high side in terms of price

Over the years it has become more and more expensive and it was sold out when we decided on a side trip to Portofino, BUT.

but everything is very expensive which is what you would expect from a luxury and exclusive hotel.

Within the current TripAdvisor rating system, one has to rate Splendido as at least a six star hotel.

As you'd expect the food and service were exceptional and we cant wait to return!

I think the pasta and sauce came from a can.

We shared the agnolini stuffed with fish.

So so sad - all that fresh fish goes to waste because the chef bakes / salts / sauces it too much.

If you want a relaxing stay, the Splendido is the place to go!

The hotel experience, ambience, food, sense of pleasure and comfort, were among the best in my life.

From the menu; especially Seabass and tiramisu are highly recommended..

What an incredible experience, food, setting, staff. rooms.

We dined at each of their 3 restaurants and the food was terrific at each.

The team working at the Bar and restaurant are the complete opposite of the rest of the hotel staff: they lie their way out of their mistakes, and make sure to attend to the biggest tippers and regulars before anyone else.

(And we dined at 3* Osteria Francescana, 3* Da Vittorio, 2* Seta and innumerable other 1* restaurants on the trip.)

The views, access to town, and food are all superb.

It is worth eating in their restaurant not just for the quality of the food and service 

Beautiful views, stunning rooms, fantastic food, great staff and of course our highlight, Vladi who makes us want to return time and time again, Our girls love singing with you, so much.

We dined once at Terrazza, had three lunches at the Pool Grill, and went to the Terrazza bar every night of our stay.

The food is also superb - Do not miss the Elizabeth Taylor pizza and the fresh pesto pasta in the pool restaurant, the perfect lunch spot.

The room was kept in great condition, the housekeeping did an excellent job everyday of being quick, discrete and efficient.

The welcome is warm and professional at the same time, the room is perfect and has everything you need, the swimming pool is just fabulous and warmed, you have a great fitness center to work out and a shuttle service to Portofino every 20 minutes

The rooms are very comfortable,the staff excellent and whilst the hotel is showing a little age…this is forgiven ( it’s going to be refurbished in 2023)

Our room was spacious, clean, nicely decorated ,toiletries  were in abundance they have thought of everything.

It seems that every room is slightly different so this may have been unique to our room,

I do love a room with a view and I thank the Splendido for giving me such a perfect moment.

My wife and I were celebrating a special occasion and the Assistant GM and team made sure we were thoroughly spoilt including a bottle of champagne on ice and other amenities in our upgraded room sea view room on arrival

Other than our room needing a bit of upgrading (we had a jr. suite with balcony), this stay was perfect!

The rooms are beautiful and spacious, the grounds and pool are lovely, and the service is impeccable.

but unobtrusive service, amazing food, charming and helpful staff, understatedly elegant rooms.

Ambience, the garden, rooms and beds, the pool, quality of service, the bar and the restaurant - simply excellent.

They also had chocolates, champagne, flowers and  the most delicious cake in the room for me.

My room was exceptional and the always very well kept by the staff.
