Scrambled eggs, streaky bacon, has browns, mushrooms, everything you might want! The hotel is midway between the old city (which is amazing) and the new area (which is still quite old!)

Breakfast was excellent, it was buffet style with a great choice of cold and hot food.

Friendly and competent staff, great breakfast buffet, nice room with balcony.

The best thing is the view of the medieval cite and we thought breakfast wasn't bad.

Breakfast the following morning provided a good choice of continental and cooked with perfectly cooked scrambled eggs.

Breakfast choice was fab with hot and cold meats, eggs, cheeses, fruits, pastries plus more,  juices, quality tea and coffee selections

We were "upgraded" to a room with a balcony which was technically nice except the room was so small, it was uncomfortable.

but small rooms, even the deluxe one we had.

Breakfast on the Sunday was chaotic, the kitchen could not keep up with the speed that food was taken from the buffet, Monday and Tuesday were slightly better, probably only because the hotel was a little less busy.

When I eventually found someone to deal with my problem, I was given a code to get me into a municipal car park which by now had closed.

but the wifi is hit and miss especially if more than one device is connected.

6. air conditioning was intermittent, came on and off as it was set at auto, not possible to have it on constantly, and for all of us it was too hot to sleep well.

The only downside is the WiFi; slow and unstable.

Complimentary internet was poor as connections kept dropping.

Note that the car park is "closed" on Sunday, which is to say there are no staff - the hotel will give you a pin code so you can still get in to your car, pay and drive out.

One or two small problems still to sort out on account of its newness (the wifi wasn't great, and one of the electric sockets in the room didn't work)

Fatema was so resourceful and a real life saver in helping us getting our boarding passes printed from the hotel next door when the internet was down.

Once again the Hilton brand and the efficiency of the staff was undermined and devalued by the ‘petty’ and small minded policy of asking for an extra €10 a day for WiFi after you have party d €570 (or in this instance €470) for the room which is nothing short of scandalous, especially when hotels at a 1/4 of the price offer WiFi free, as they should in this day and age.

5) The wifi kept going out and I had to login more than a dozen times over the course of a single day.

unexciting, uninspiring, average to poor and overpriced food.

However our experience in the restaurant was most disappointing - very average food at very expensive prices and senior restaurant staff were unwelcoming.

The food was seriously average and executed without imagination.

but the prices seem very high (EUR117 for dinner, EUR25 breakfast and EUR15 for one glass of average wine) for what was available, the food in the Forfait D'ete package seemed very mean spirited and in our view the hotel was run less with a tight focus on the guest than other relais that we have stayed in.

Otherwise the showers in the bath in the bedrooms are so low that an average person struggles to use them.

The hotel is below average Relais et Chateau standards both in terms of facilities (cheesy statues, no frills public area) and service (no free internet).

We have been coming here for 19 years and have always been so impressed by the professionalism of the staff, the attention to each tiny detail  and the utterly delicious gastromic delights.

One day, we even got a truffle cooked egg.

The dinning room has a wonderful terrace overlooking a marvelous garden and the golf course, great place for breakfast weather permitting.

but delicious and beautifully presented too.

We had dinner together with an overnight stay and breakfast.

But very many positives: comfortable spacious room (suite actually), very tranquil atmosphere and surroundings (faint buzz of traffic far in the distance on occasions), lovely gardens and terrace on which to enjoy a sumptuous breakfast each morning, very friendly and helpful proprietor and staff at any time of the day or evening, delicious and creative menu in the restaurant, excellent wine list.

Incredibly delicious dinner where each plate was in harmony with the total experience.

Every course was delicious, and served with an accompanying  wine - the final dessert was fantastic .

We booked 5 days before and specifically mentioned 1 guest was vegetarian, we were all surprised when the waiter offered scrambled eggs.

The restaurant is classic in ingredients, modern in conception.

Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the pool and gardens is one of the treats, as is the uniformly obliging service from the staff.

but, even better, will listen to you and try and find something delicious to satisfy your tastes.

Just to say it with few words: Super service and delicious food!

The continental breakfast is a medley of fresh fruits, fresh breads and a little creamy scrambled eggs.

We went to the local supermarket, a 5 minute drive and got mostly the same thing for less than €25 and it fed the 4 of us for 2 breakfasts.

but delivered as a package for EUR25 a piece, unlike many hotels where there is a broader choice of buffet.

Sadly two small single beds, pushed together with a cheap double sheet over the top doesn't cut it for a hotel at the luxury level this hotel wants to be, and at the price being charged.

The restaurant was too French for me and expensive

Would have saved money on this overpriced hotel.

We paid top dollar for our accommodation, and expected more.

but expensive and sparsely-patronized gourmet restaurant, unfortunately meat-heavy, and lacking vegetarian options.

I am certain we had the most expensive price for the least exciting room.

( and if you are into malt whisky, poor selection)

All in all though, not cheap

only thing: the standard rates are overpriced.

The following morning, eating a very ungenerous and expensive breakfast in the dining room, the proprietor Madame approached our table and asked why we were not happy with the room.

There was nowhere for us to put our stuff so I complained, at first they asked me to pay more money

Breakfast is a little expensive and not as good as expected.

Guests sleep in 2 small beds (that looked very old), and when we asked about a double bed, they told us that in France it was impossible to have a king size bed so they were putting 2 small beds together (pictures attached).

The Guinea fowl skin was white, with the yellow fat still underneath, the meat had no taste,  the waiter asked if I didn't like it, as I left most of it untouched, I said no, his response was that this is the French way of cooking, really!

We asked if we could have only a 'quick' dip to refresh ourselves before being fleeced for a very non Michelin star quality dinner. Verboten!

We asked if they had another room (our booked room had been given away).

One very bad note is that we finished playing at 2:15 PM and couldn't have anything to eat at the course bar. We asked for a sandwich and they told us the "kitchen was closed."

When we asked the Madam to help make the appointment, her face immediately turned ice-cold, and jaws dropped.

The service in the restaurant was above average as we asked for something not on the menu on our second night and

but when we asked to cut our stay short we were told that we would be invoiced for the full week.

There was either just not enough breakfast staff or the staff they did have were not trained in any kind of restaurant service.

My husband and I are both vegan, we had pre-paid for the breakfast and we didm't have any healthy options apart for a fruit salad full of sugar and cereals full of sugar.

We ate at the restaurant twice and the food was delicious - particularly the cassoulet and the veal chop.

The product in  our visit was good - the room was clean when we arrived, the reception was excellent, (the hotel has a star in Rosaline), breakfast was good, we had a nice balcony with views over the medieval city and we were able to park in their small car park

A bit expensive if you choose the room with the view,

In all my travels, recent and old, I have never experienced such humiliation by being refused my stay (which was paid in full on hotels.com website including daily tax and 20€ for 2 pets) because I did not have a vaccine pass.

but you have to park in an underground car-park not too far from the hotel, but pricey.

I booked for 4 nights and left after 2 nights, they never gave a refund.

However, we managed to book on our last night.

but she was dismissive and insisted I should have confirmed!

but small ( needs booking) so might be too tight for a big car.

I almost never booked this hotel, due to some reviews.

They did not even take the effort to try to refund me OR offer to help to book me elsewhere.

The hotel doesn't have parking facilities which was advertised on booking .com.

We didn’t know it would be such of a “pain in the ass” to stay in a supposedly 5 stars hotel, @L’hotel du Roi is this a joke are we getting refunded or something?

I introduced myself, they told that I couldn’t check in before 3 because they were fully booked ( lies ) and also that my room will face the building opposite the entrance !

Clearing of dirty dishes from our table between courses was non existant and I cleared them myself!

The tables weren’t cleaned, I had to actually get a cloth and clean the table myself and remove the dirty dishes.

No potatoes was served with the respective dishes.

We were disappointed with the breakfast the second morning there was no orange fruit juice and no scrambled egg we  asked if there was any more to one of the staff  she said its cooking so we waited about 15 minuets and a tray was brought out so we sat down to eat it and it was cold not just luke warm

but he/she was not to be seen.As we had a long drive north we did not have time to wait for the manager to come and  hear our sorry tale!

You just wait till 16:00, they don't care.

I’ve submitted the statement from my credit card bill showing that I parked in that city ramp and I’m still waiting to hear.

-they started by putting us in occupated rooms we had to go downstairs wait an hour for them to give us available rooms, didn’t apologize or do something.

She prepared breakfast on the six mornings we were there and they were all healthy and so enjoyable.

Breakfast is provided each morning with a variety of fresh produce served on the terrace overlooking the medieval city.

Everything from the delicious, hearty breakfast, to the beautiful, modern, tasteful decor, was just perfect.

We had a very good continental breakfast on the outside patio every morning of our 4 night stay, with a wonderful view of the Cite de Carcassonne close at hand.

We had a lovely breakfast each morning either in the dining area, or out on the deck with a super view of the Castle - coffee & croissants, freshly-squeezed juice, fresh breads and several options - what's not to like ?

Breakfast was lovely with home made jam and cakes, and even when flooding in the area left her sister's house half submerged in water, Denise still made sure we had good food and spoke to the airport to make sure we could get our flight.

There are incredible views to the medieval castle from the decking where you have breakfast.

We had a little difficulty finding the property, as there were no taxis waiting at the airport, so we had to travel on the airport shuttle bus (6 Euros each).

The aircon is controlled from an office off the reception and had to request twice that it be turned down.

and that the heating was on and not the air conditioning and it would not be on until the “summer”!!!

We were told that the air-conditioning was "for the summer" and working yet.

Room 2 the toilet flush had fallen away from the wall room 3 actually had a flood during the night so we had a bucket and towel switched off the AC and continued  our interrupted sleep.

Bad things
- Decor is a bit tired, we noticed a lot of chipped paint, cheap door handles and some odd signage around the place
- Confusing layout of the hotel, some stairs lead to places that other don't  and the pool was a bit difficult to find at first as there is no sign for it on a closed door at the end of the corridors.

As I wrote this I am currently shaping ear plugs to block out the noise of our rattling, ill-fitted ac unit.

We didn't have either dinner or breakfast so can't comment on the food.

Downstairs at reception there is a bar where they can provide coffee, drinks, and a light breakfast.

The Tribe is one of the very best hotels I have stayed in for the price and the staff location and rooms were just fabulous iI can no say you will not be disappointed close the the Castle and it has its own swimming pool and a rooftop restaurant for breakfast close to the main square where there are lots of different styles and prices to fit with most budgets.

Breakfast was substantial and of a high quality and served in the 4th floor restaurant where there were views across to La Cité.

A local Ibis hotel serves a similar buffet type situation for 10euros up the road.

Door to pool was locked and neither I or another guest could get our fobs to unlock it.

It was uncomfortable to sleep and then you open the door up which is above the road and entrance (although you need to be roadside near the entrance to get a view of the castle). We asked at reception and were told it was winter (29 degrees during the day and not much cooler at night!!!)

From the start it was like a car crash, room 1 the door handle was broken.

There is no labels on doors for the restaurant or the pool.

Tip: this is through end doors on level 3, then up a flight of stairs.

Having been fully renovated and refurbished, this hotel claims to be 4-star, which is not the case yet due to too many flaws in the materials used for renovation, namely: doors can't close normally, bassinet tap is uneasy to use, painting is worn out.

I'm honestly annoyed at having ever considered this hotel versus the much better SOWELL next door, at the same price.

Final room had a hole in the door ,
The small rooms are depressingly dark,no storage poor light and we felt it was back to our student days with gloomy black and dark paint.

We never really unpacked during our 4-night stay because of no space to do so.

but mistakenly oopened it all up for viewing, not realising that it would be better to open one or two floors and focus on a great finish in a smaller space instead of having four, half-baked floors.

Superb location in the middle of Carcassonne with a welcoming host and incredible breakfast choices.
