Food is terrible, reheated, cold, sometimes frozen in the middle.

When they do, the food takes over an hour, arrives cold, and from our experience the order is always wrong.

Who’s catching a cold in the 40• heat especially OUTSIDE!!!

If you like sitting in a hot (cold) tub with half the jets working, then it'd be perfect.

but when we reported it a second time they didn't come back to investigate)  There was no cold tap, only a cold shower head, so to use it we had to run the water 2-3 hours in advance otherwise it was way to hot and unsafe to use.

Room service was awful, there is no variety & food arrived cold.

but you needed to catch it when they 1st set it out or it was cold.

but the waffles sat in basket waiting for someone transport them and by the time they did, they were cold, like much of the buffet food.

Sushi was worst than gas station sushi, rice was cold and hard.

they told us to go down to the bar instead

room service was cold or even better not even delivered when we scheduled it with concierge
Beach/Pool towels were hard to come by.

The pools are not heated and our swimout was adjacent to a pool which is shaded from 11am onward which means COLD.

The buffet food was cold, our toilet leaked and made a terrible noise, after 6 maintenance visits it still was not fixed, the toilet door was so swollen from water damage that it didn’t  close, and on the only occasion I did get it closed I got locked in, despite reporting this 2 days in to our holiday nothing was done.

Buffet was very basic for breakfast, the rodeo was a brutal, kept being told to come back in 45 minutes (twice in one night) and both times it was a 3.5 hour wait to get main course, food was just ok, can’t sit outside for less that $30/pp apparently, food arrived cold both visits and not prepared to how it was ordered.

Be prepared for all the food at the buffet to be cold and not good.

You can grab water at any of the bars for free, 

The vegetation has all grown in and looks nice plus you have the two sister resorts to roam and use their facilities if you like which is a bonus.

When I read “adults only” I expect a relatively quiet and relaxing atmosphere, free from children and families.

It's the best "free" hibachi I've had, and a top 1/3 of the paid.

My husband had to work all week so he used the free Wi-Fi and had no problems.

Since we had an extra free day, Valentina suggested Rio Secreto, the secret river tour in a cenote.

If you are considering staying here, you have two choices, pay premium prices for a 3 star at best, and get annoyed at other guests using your facilities, or book the cheapest option, and use the facilities that suckers like me pay for, free of charge.

One evening I got a complementary dinner in Grill restaurant.

I stayed in the platinum block which was nice and quiet, the room was beautiful and the bottle of tequila in my room an added bonus.

The excursions were all well priced and hassle free.

The first was stress free, great food, excellent service.

When we arrived they offered to upgrade us to the Yucatan platinum suites free of charge which is supposed to be the more posh side and adults only. ..

Ppl who check you In don’t tell you anything about the sister resort Grand Princess - they have wild monkeys & there is a free shuttle - some of the workers are nice some aren’t.

Just take these things out and free up some space!

but the swim out pool option was definitely an added bonus and I would book that room again, for sure.

The front desk personnel will make you feel as if they are doing you a favor by "upgrading your room" for free.

A staff member overheard several guests expressing their disappointment at the beach condition and he suggested we go on an excursion where the beaches are beautiful and you get free lunch and drinks.

I did try calling them, though, and it did not work out,

She could have got better results discussing and not being rude and abusive to staff, 
 
Swim up rooms are amazing, room cleaning service is excellent and accommodating, even the maids superior checked her work occasionally too,  they do care 

Room service can be difficult to get hold of on the phone at times to order,

one time i believe she even faked a phone call to housekeeping.

We tried 5 different times to order from the 24 hour room service they offer and no one would answer the phone once.

Room service took forever when you ordered if they even answer the phone the same goes for the front desk and housekeeping.

but they want to call themselves a 5 star hotel. LOL!

How this hotel gets to call itself a 5 star I will never know.

Main pool was closed twice because individuals got to wasted at the swim up bar Threw up in the pool everyone had to leave the pool for the day for it to be cleaned 

I had to change my key card 5 times extremely frustrating my cell phone was nowhere near my keycard for it to deactivate it.

No TV remote in our room, and we had to call three times to get one sent up.

Overall cleanliness of the resort was well maintained, for some reason I was told I would need to pay for extra water bottles in our room when the mini fridge wasn't topped up via phone chat with house keeping which was shocking.

Room service didn't respond or answer the phone Saturday night.

We have stayed in many resorts in Mexico and this one unfortunately has been the most overrated 5 star if you can call it that.

but she chewed my ear off when I answered the phone because my husband hung the do not disturb card and proceeded to tell me that I was not going to receive a replacement yelling at me at the same time.

In the bathroom, the phone came off the wall.

I had to place numerous calls and wait many hours before reaching someone about this issue.

but nothing special, we did not have any help to bring up our luggages, had to call for the room to be cleaned & for new towels, pool waiter comes once per hour.

We have stayed at 2 other resorts in Playa del Carmen which were far better

He was friendly and had excellent recommendations that made our vacation in Playa Del Carmen memorable!

Also, take advantage of the shuttle bus into playa del carmen - it costs 4 USD or 70 pesos per person each way and they drop you right by fifth avenue.

One of the other very convenient offerings at this resort was the Playa del Carmen shuttle that left the lobby at 9:00 am, noon and 3:00 pm and dropped people in central Playa.

Other things to mention, direct shuttle to Playa del Carmen a few times a day.

but a 15min taxi ride will take you to downtown Playa del Carmen 5th avenue with numerous bars and clubs to suit all travelers.

I would highly recommend you doing your test off the resort and go downtown to Playa Del Carmen at one of the testing centres.

We went into Playa Del Carmen and the beach there was better.

The good thing is there are several other resorts around to choose from so you can still enjoy playa del Carmen .

Safe & Easy Travel Restrictions

So now that we have that out of the way lets get to the nitty gritty of this new location exploration that is the PLATINUM YUCATAN PRINCESS RESORT in the beautiful Playa Del Carmen, Mexico!

We took the shuttle service in to Playa del Carmen so we could stock up on biodegradable sunscreen/repellent, liquor and souvenirs.

A shopping trip into Playa del Carmen is cheap, at $8 return, and a fun break from resort food.

The good: 
One of the larger beach areas north of Playa Del Carmen.

We went to Coco Bongo on Saturday night - with Royal Service which was so cool and then took a day to head to Playa Del Carmen (50 pesos for the bus there and 50 back each) and took a ferry to Cozumel after lunch at Senor Frogs.

Food was tasteful in all restaurants and never got bored in buffet.Shuttle to Playa del Carmen very convenient and timely.Would love to visit soon.

In our eyes, the Platinum Yucatan Princess Resort (Adults Only) in playa Del Carmen is truly a resort that offers a true sense of paradise.

We did things off the resort and enjoyed the pool and spa. Enjoy!

The palm trees, resort pools, flower bushes and animals around the resort still make you feel like you're in a tropical location

Very spread out and the pool bar hard to access due to number of guests occupying the area!

Rooms are BEAUTIFUL, huge balcony's & AC (robes, slippers, drinks included in mini fridge+important toiletries)
Pools are huge with swim up bars/lots of chairs, &you can use the swim out pools even if you don't have a swim up room
Access to Ocean Riviera/Grand Sunset Princess (would book sunset princess next time bcs everything is the same except kids there & its much cheaper) 
The food is AMAZING.

Also about the pools, we did not go to any other of them.

The pool gets full sun from around 11am and the pool is always a nice temperature so not a cold shock when you get in.

My room was situated right above the main pool,  which I thought would be neusance

The room was clean, very pretty and having the private patio, and pool area was worth the visit.

3000 is on the main pool which during the day is very lively from 10 am till 6 pm.

The pool had a nice temperature for the weather.

The room was lovely, overlooking the pool.

the pools, bars, and grounds were very nice.

It is catered towards young Americans who want pool parties and cheap tacky food to soak up the alcohol.

we didn’t see any adult activities in the pool as others did lol infact everyone was very friendly and seemed to be enjoying themselves.

but there are many side pools if you wish to get away from this energy.

but if you like spend top dollars and hang around a pool for 6 days with Cancun vibes then this is the place.

Pools were easy to find seating if before 11.

i DEFF recommend you go to COCBONGO, do some tours.

Tour operators need to re-evaluate this facility and it’s classification.

We came to rely on Allan for all of the tour and excursion information we needed during the rest of the stay and he was a great resource.

but beware of dealing with the Best Day people – they are not interested in helping you to a good experience, they are just interested in selling you a tour.

There are people that offer tours to Chichen Itzá, isla mujeres, snorkelling, swimming with dolphins etc

You can always go in town and get authentic Mexican food or take a food tour.

Behind the bar area there is a tour guy who worked for  (LIVE IT water activities)  sitting underneath a hut.

6 - we were the first drop off and rhe last pickup by our tour operator so the location was good.

I wanted to order room service for the morning before going out on a tour early at 530.

When we went outside we noticed the phone was from the tour operators across the driveway.

I was in building 2 and the signage makes you go along a very very long route.

There are plenty of “off the property” activities and tours available, most of them quite pricey,

On a 5 star rating:

5 Star.Entertainment Evening Shows: House dancers are fantastic, other entertainment was very nice: mariachi bands, fire show and the hip hop street dancers.

But I will say that Caribbean Tours, which took us in, was fabulous and had great staff.

We paid 200 dollars for the tour and 100 just to come back.

So nice to be able to just walk out and hop in the pool.

We had the most amazing experience at the Grand Velas Resort in Playa Del Carmen Mexico.

A 15 minute taxi ride puts you into the middle of Playa del Carmen where there is abundant shopping along with many restaurants and bars.

Short car ride into Playa del Carmen for a walk along 5 Ave, heaps of shopping, bars and cafes to entertain for the day.

We spent six days at the Grand Velas, a few miles north of Playa del Carmen.

Went into Playa del Carmen one day, was 20 US dollars each way and only 15 mins away.

After 3 days in Tulum staying at the Azulik hotel, we move to Playa Del Carmen at GrandVelas Riviera Maya all Inclusive Spa and Resort.

We took our first vacation since Covid to Playa del Carmen and had an amazing time at Grand Velas.

Tried different hotels in Playa del Carmen like The Fairmont to the Pablo Escobar Mansion in Tulum and I know about service, quality, etc.

I was very impressed with the Grand Vilas here in Playa del Carmen.

we have been visiting Playa del Carmen for more than 15 years and since we stayed in Grand Velas, it has been imposible to go to another hotel

I won a company incentive trip to Grand Velas in Playa del Carmen.

So, this is our 4th year in Playa del Carmen out of the last 5 years.

The location is great, its secluded back probably a mile from the main road that goes to playa del Carmen.

Would recommend this resort to anyone considering a vacation or getaway in Playa Del Carmen!

Whether it was room service, poolside, beachside, Azul, Fridas, Piaf or Lucca the food was delicious.

We used a new travel agent and booked at the Paradesus in Playa del Carmen.

Grand Velas is a 5 Star All Inclusive resort just a few miles north of Playa del Carmen on the Mayan Riviera.

Close by at the adults pool, Marco took amazing care of us pool side.

We had planned on sitting by the pool for a change.

We never made it all the way to the spa because the massages right next to us at the pool were so good!

Having cocktails in the pool was really nice!

Snacks by the pool were great — especially the fresh shrimp ceviche!!

The various pools and the offerings on the beachfront made everyday memorable.

Pool areas were peaceful and was plenty of available chairs and tools.

Also, Jacqueline at the pool took great care of us every day.

I believe it was $150 per half hour just for the jets in pool.

You can be there with family ( Ambassador and Zen ambience) and for couples you have Grand Class which has an adult pool.

The pool was great to relax at every day.

I'd say the private pool was unnecessary.

but once your pool side Andres, Emmanuel, and Jacqueline will leave you wanting for nothing, “everything is possible”…Rigo took care of every other detail for us, all was incredible…Aldo quickly befriended our pre-teen boys, they haven’t stopped talking about how nice he was…a beautiful trip!!! !

Marco, Ismael, & Luciano provided amazing services for us at the adult pool all week.

Andres and Emmanuel by the pool took care of everything we needed all day.

but loved going to the Zen property for the pool and for a change of scenery.

Granted, some of our experience may be due to the very slow season.

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN RESORT AREAS: It's only about a three-minute slow drive from the Zen area of the resort (in the jungle) to the oceanfront areas, Grand Case and Ambassador.

Surprisingly had the worst service at the Grand Class beach (no one came out to help with towels and painfully slow offering food & water & delivering food).

The lines for inexperienced travelers were long and slow.

however EXTREMELY slow (it took us over 2 hours to order an entree each and a dessert each).

It was entirely too slow, stuffy and not that great.

but service was rather slow even thought it wasn’t busy.

Pool/ocean side food service can be slow as the food must be prepared and while the staff work hard, there are many guests asking for service.

but there were fewer evening activities (to be expected during slow times).

(It is stunning to me they don't try to fill it more by dropping prices to, at least, past guests, at slow times.

Inform your guest in advance that the Spa will be closed.

Extras -  The massage in the Zen spa was lush!

The spa is without a doubt the best in the world.

From setting up a visit to the spa to coordinating room service, the experience thanks to her genuine efforts made me feel like a true 5 star guest!

The spa was wonderful and definitely worth visiting (no one under 16 permitted)

The Spa was beautiful, and I highly recommend the water ceremony which is worth a trip to the Spa on its own.

The Spa is amazing, we had massages and did the water ceremony, it is an experience none of us had ever had, and we were all super impressed!

My day at the spa was unlike any experience I’ve ever had!!

We have traveled to many and if you like spas this will not disappoint!

From the food, to the rooms, to  the amenities, the spa.

The spa was absolutely amazing as we literally spent almost an entire day there.

The spa was a unique and relaxing experience, something that is a must while visiting the resort.

The water ceremony at the spa was a unique and relaxing experience!

The hydrotherapy journey was over the top!

I felt she went above and beyond to help make our experience very exceptional, a she certainly did, she’s very personable and made us feel special.

I guess it’s hit or miss, a lot of reviews mention amazing concierge experiences and we did notice many concierges walking around and checking in with guests throughout the day.

The food: Every meal felt like a Michelin-starred experience.

Looking forward to similar or even better experience.

The food was way better then typical all inclusive, cucina de autor was a culinary experience and Lucca was a fan fave even with our family of Italian New Yorkers!

After checking in, we were assigned a personal concierge, Katherine Galindo, who made our experience so delightful.

It is an entire experience which is  relaxing and rejuvenating!

but to be fair after 2 years of lockdown I thought it was very nice , people say the rooms smell damp , yes they do if you don’t keep the A/C on all day it’s a tropical country , some people say the rooms are dated , they may be but I don’t spend my day in the room !

We are not fans of the purple, Vegas look of the other one.

However, I have two complaints: the air conditioning and the front desk.

Housekeeping was effective, and they let you choose yourself when and if you want the bedsheets changed.

although you could never turn off the ventilation (again noise you could not turn off).

One thing I will mention is that the AC in the rooms turns on/off when the temperature rises/lowers (rather than the fan constantly blowing and lowering).

The water closet is too small and there is no ventilation.

The hurricane didn't hit until around 4am, and blew out by late the next day, so we really weren't inconvenienced at all!

- Outside restaurants like the Mexican or steakhouse are very hot and the fans are not doing anything they should be changed with high speed more powerful fan at least to get some air while eating outside in those restaurants especially at dinner time.

We were not fans of the Italian restaurant or the Steakhouse.

but the room was so humid the sheets on the bed were wet and sticky.

Room AC was perfect, cold enough so that when you opened the patio door, the floor got slick with condensation and we actually had to turn UP the temp.

In addition there were drug dealers also circulating on the same beach offering weed and cocaine!

Only inconvenience was that our room got very humid,

slamming doors at night 
all three pools are full of people drinking all day long .

We had an adjoining room where both keys we're all keys opened all doors.

The servings were so minuscule that we had to go next door to the buffet to eat because we were still hungry.

We were on the corner so only the people in the room next door were in/out.

I had lunch at one of there out door buffets

The room were weird with a tub in the middle in between the door and the shower area and a step down to the living room with a few of ugly trees.

When we made it out of the front door of the resort, there were piles of spaghetti vomit scattered on the sidewalk and drive.
