The resort is maintained very well, and was very clean during our stay.

Rooms were nice (newly renovated from what I understand) and very clean.

The rooms are maintained very clean and the fridge is well-stocked.

The hotel was very well presented and clean, fixtures and fittings weren’t totally perfect (slightly wonky toilet in one room and gurgly plumbing in the kids room when you flushed the toilet)

The resort underwent a complete renovation and re-model in the summer of 2023, and EVERYTHING is brand new and impeccable.

We loved the fact everything has been recently renovated, everything was lovely and clean.

3 places to smoke, if your a smoker  which are not adequate for hotel this size.

The middle pool is a pool bar where people were just drinking until they couldn't stand up, smoking in the pool, and we even saw someone taking substances.

If you’re a smoker, I would strongly advise against this hotel.

Our room did smell of sulphur on occasions and the fan does make a noise which you can't switch off so some light sleepers may struggle.

There are staff raking that up each morning and it’s nothing like smelly seaweed and didn’t deter anyone swimming in the sea.

First off the rooms had a horrible mold/mildew smell that was making me feel sick, our rooms were NEVER cleaned unless we requested on the app and even so no fresh towels brought / toilet paper refills.

Areas for improvement: 
We saw many people smoking throughout the resort in undesignated areas, which we found very annoying.

The rooms were a bit dated and the bathrooms could have been cleaner, there was black mold in ours.

Day we checked in, the room had pillows and bed that were giving off a stinking smell, same with curtains

but of course people had to ruin it by leaving their garbage behind, we found broken glass, straws and cigarettes :/ Food was very poor, only friuts and vegetables were great also staff was very helpfull and nice.

even though u tell them constantly you don’t smoke not a very good way to welcome holiday makers absolutely disgraceful behaviour

No air in room bathrooms, insufficient room lighting, red stained mirrors, pee on the side of the toilets.

Our friends had trouble with electrics on floor 9, blowing lights, hair dryers ect…fuse box looked old and looked like required maintenance, this happened after rain, so probably water in the electrics, they had to sleep with no lights or electric, with a smell of burning, was not resolved until next day, their last day.

Everybody smokes, everybody is loud and inconsiderate of others having a relaxing time.

but still want a good day out you NEED to go to Xel-Ha, this place is out of this world!

While we were there we went on a lot of excursions including Xel-Ha and Xplor which we booked ourselves through the Xcaret website before going, and a few excursions through Thomson while we were there including the catamaran trip to Dolphin Discovery where we swam with dolphins, nurse sharks and fed the manatees and a trip to Garrafon Park, and Chichen Itza.

You can also book all excursions at hotel, we only booked coco bongos through arturo the rep and booked xel ha with a place on the strip.

Nice view to the pool and the beach.The resort was nice and clean, this is a big resort, 400 rooms and the buildings are tall, 8 floors.

Really good, clean and spacious room with spacious balcony.

Really good and clean facilities giving plenty of options of things to do.

The beaches are clean with almost no seaweed.

Beach was clean and fun seeing the turtle sanctuary.

I have travelled to many resorts offered through RCI this is one of the nicest, modern spacious clean and comfortable rooms we have had on over 30 years.

Both are a true asset to the hotel and had  impeccable service.

It was very modern, clean and had a fantastic bathroom with great views.

Even the pool toilets are the most modern and cleanest I have seen in my life!

This hotel has it everything for a fair price.

There’s construction on one side of the hotel,

major construction was happening Dec 10-17, 2022 when we were there, right next to us in B601, and that was a vacation destroyer.

Plus the building construction is pretty unsightly.

Now the paving slabs are being replaced and it is impossible to swim in the children's pool and the adjoining adult one, the dust from construction works flies in the face and water.

Still some construction going on for now, so that was our only "cleanliness" negative.

They were remodeling on side of the hotel

Hotel is under construction 24/7 Jack hammering around the pool.

Unfortunately we ended up in a construction place with loud people that couldn’t behave.

The Cons: as for now the hotel is undergoing reconstruction that creates some construction jobsite-like noise during week day time.

We also heard construction noises all through the night our first night there.

but part of it was also under construction.

Construction: Yes there’s construction going on, no it did not bother anyone as you can’t hear the noise and they’re done early, it will be out of your way. Promise.

CONSTRUCTION AT THE RESORT:

There is some construction currently being done.

What you don´t know is that once you arrive you find that they´re doing some construction right at from of the beach: so you´re trying to enjoy Caribbean sun with slap-hammer music and construction noise.

Construction at the establishment was only a slight distraction; to see continued investment makes me want to come back.

There was construction going on all day (except Sunday)

I assume the hotel will be bigger as there is a lot of construction and renovations going on.

We did Xel-Ha, catamaran to Isla Mujeres and captain Hook.

Close enough to to Cancun areas and driving distance (1 hour approximately) to all the Parks and Attactions (Xplor, Xel-Ha, Xcaret, etc).

Great location and place to stay if you want to go and visit the big Xcaret, Xel ha and Xenses parks.

The beach area is clean and a great place to hangout.

We took a family vacation to Cancun at the RPP, the property was beautiful and very clean, the staff was friendly.

but given the cleanliness and the wonderful staff I opted for 3 stars.

Pros : Great staff and service; great food; nice room, spotless.

but is super clean and the staff is amazing.

The rooms were clean and had a great view.

Pools and beach were clean and beach chairs were plentiful and comfortable.

Staff did a great job keeping our room immaculate.

The resort has 5 pools, the VIP pool very clean and comfortable.

We were last there 5 years ago when everything was cleaner looking and not scuffed in so many places.

The rooms are modern, attractive, clean, and importantly: very quiet.

From the food buffet, cleanliness of rooms, hallways and court yards, to the courtesy of the staff, our stay was amazing.

Clean rooms and great service from the staff!

The amenities, like the shampoo and soap, were really awful smelling and totally dried out our skin.

It has flaws such as the shower floor being slanted away from the drain which means water stands inside about 1" deep.

We visited the place at middle of November 2023 , we arrived late after 12h fly , there was one person at reception, waiting 40 min for check in, no one help as with the luggage, so we took it ourselves to the 1st floor ( we stayed in villa) , there was no food, drinks for us , everything was close and the sports bar was empty… The room was covered with mold, the smell was horrible.

Our initial suite/room was not ready at check-in time (3:00pm), quite probably someone was perfuming our room to kill the smoking odor last minute,

During the day it’s overpowering and during the evening can be heard even on 16th floor with the doors closed, in the buffet hall and foyer.

So imagine coming back to your room and the food from the night before and getting slapped with the smell.

That was 5 hours earlier- how had the staff not cleaned up vomit?

Amazing food and service all around, my only complaint would be the amount of cigarette smoking all around the property in indoor common and beach area.

but it’s cleared each morning and we didn’t see any rotting piles of it on the beach and no smell.

We also we had to take a shower with roaches because the water did not go down the drain, so we had roaches to swim around.

On our first night there the jacuzzi in the room wouldn't get hot and the water stunk so we didn't even use it.

He tries to make his way to the bed and is throwing up, dizzy, cross eyed, falling down, and having trouble breathing.

Rooms are damp and needed some TLC, we didn't use the spa bath as the fittings were very old and uninviting.

We Were told You cannot smoke on the secured side.

We had some pop up in the villas on our last couple days, smoking by the pool.

In our 11 days, the best food we ate was at Xplor and Xel-ha.

Definitely go to Xel-Ha if snorkelling is your thing.

Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula

The resort is super clean, service is impeccable, breakfast is great.

but had sargassum seaweeds that were cleaned off the beach every morning.

Hotel was super clean and staff was so friendly and kind - most do speak some English, if you need it.

The hotel rooms, public areas and grounds were really nice and clean.

Clean, comfortable and the location is perfect.

but what I found was the same immaculately kept Hotel and great service that I experienced in 2009.

The rooms are spacious, have good facilities and are kept spotlessly clean.

The grounds are so well kept, there seems to always be someone cleaning something, the pool is huge and clean and the beach is right there in front of the hotel and is stunning.

but budget friendly, clean and has a beautiful beach.

The beach is clean and the water is so clear.

It is a beautiful and well maintained hotel situated on a beautiful pristine beach.

The resort is very clean and well maintained.

We had a one bedroom suite, and it was a good size and very clean.

The rooms were decent size and very clean.

Clean with crystal clear waters and not many vendadores.

It is clean and quiet hotel that has many amenities required onsite.

They will bring a credit card machine to you.

They charged my card instead of blocking it on checkin.

When we went to the pool, we were told we need a special card to get ONE towel.the staff was friendly and the restaurant ok.

They charged me 15 dollars an hour for my requested late check out.

Once we arrived,  the hotel claimed that we were a no show and sought to charge us full price for both nights for each of the reserved rooms.

I called to cancel the booking and they charged me $120 and refused to refund it.

:-)   So I called Expedia and they ended up giving me a credit so i stayed rather than try to push further.

I kept explaining that we were not able pay at the moment because we didn’t account for that charge

One minor issue was that we were charged a $50.00 upgrade fee, (we requested ground floor/ pool or ocean view), she said she had one room for us,

but we were charged even more money to get the second room even though it was the room that we should have been given in the first place.

When the credit card company disputed it, they refused again.

Yes, we paid the extra charge for an ocean view and kitchen.

They charge extra fees for everything here: if you don’t wash all the dishes in your suite - fee.

We put a travel alert on our card and used our debit card with no problems.

Kudos to Cindy, the graveyard front desk young lady and Isatchel, our room service person in charge.

The only reason I gave this property 4 stars is because a) they gave me one voucher for a beach towel which entitled me to only one towel for 3 days b) I ordered drinks on the beach which I paid for by card.

Third problem to get an inner court or Seaview room there is an additional 45 dollars charge - their website states that there is a possibility of getting a Seaview with no charge!

Also , enforce the no smoking rules in the restaurant.

I think because it was hurricane season the beach had a lot of seaweed that smelt really terrible and meant I didn’t spend much time at the beach.

Unfortunately the seaweed was in the water and it smelled awful.

but a very slight downgrade and the bathroom had a very damp smell.

Nasty greedy horrible people don’t give them your business.

Only down side was bathroom smelled sewer-ish, and pool area needs music!

We were welcomed by a horrible stinging smell as soon as we entered our room.

Standard rooms were shabby,run down and smelled funny.

There was definitely no room for 4 people and the smell was atrocious.

The room was in need of repair and smelled, asked for items that were not working and never did get the things I asked for.

Poor service, low quality amenities, short of laundry coins, bad smells thru the hallways, the beach right in front is beautiful.

The octopus was the center piece and it was disgusting, and not eatable.

Treating their guests like cash cows and not replying to their mails once they leave is disgusting and no hotel should allow itself to do it.

Your balcony is no use, unless you don't mind the traffic noise and waste gas smell.

We got the so called one of the most beautiful suit, and the bathroom was roting, and the room smelled disgusting.

but NO ELEVATOR, older property, beachfront is greater but room did not meet my vacation expectation there were rotten decay in the bathroom and the room had poor ventilation.

We got in at 1:00 a.m. after long flight delays and were placed in a room that had just been painted and smelled of enamel.

I've stayed in, I don't know, hundreds of hotels, and that's the first time I've encountered that

The bus tours to Xclaret/Xel Ha pick up at the stop right outside the hotel!

We would recommend the Tulum/Xel-Ha tour.

The best snorkeling can found on an excursion to Xel Ha.

Tours we have taken over time: 
Xel-Ha -all day tour arrival back to hotel late evening.

Having already been to Tulum, Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Chitzen Itza, Isla Mujeres, etc.

We went to Xel-Ha, Deep Sea fishing and I did the ATV without my wife, all were a great time.

You can sign up for tours to Xcarat, Xel-Ha, Garrafon etc.

The guest service representative Maricio was absolutely impeccable in his orientation and explanation of all activities and amenities of the resort and his attention to our wishes made this the best stay ever.

The rooms were very clean and tidy and spacious.

( we ended up paying at the end of the trip at checkout) The room was spacious and clean for the most part.

The rooms are clean and would say it looked like the pictures so can’t complain and the staff were very friendly.

The hotel and facilities are very clean, the pool is lovely and the swim up bar is such a bonus!

The room was spacious,  immaculate and cleaned daily.

The rooms look nothing like the photos- the hotel and amenities are really run down and are overdue for a deep clean.

If recommend reserving a seat at the pool a day in advance because people leave there towels and never come back.

One of the things did not work as well as most times there was no paper towels or toilet paper.

at this time we did also notice people had already places towels on sunbeds at the pool, which was very cringey and not what I expected.

Sometimes dirty towels were left, sometimes only one towel left, bathmat not always replaced.

The other con is they have signs telling people reserving chairs with towels isn't allowed,

Apparently, if you'd like to have a chair to sit on in the pool or beach area, you have to get up early and stake your claim with towels and other belongings.
