We were mostly outside all day, we went for the all inclusive options to avoid the hassle.

I would also recommend getting the all-inclusive package.

We opted for the all inclusive plan and had a fabulous selection of dining options with ambiance and impeccable service.

The restaurants are all very good, we did have the all inclusive which I think is almost a requirement as prices are on the higher side if we were to have paid individually.

We debated doing the all-inclusive package.

but, when you book this hotel make sure you do the All Inclusive package.

In the end, not choosing the all inclusive remained a better economic choice.

We opted for the all-inclusive experience and went for the upgrade offered at check-in to a beach suite.

If you're considering a visit, I highly recommend opting for the all-inclusive package, as it's definitely worth every penny.

The food is 5 star for an all-inclusive resort.

It’s a fab resort with an amazing beach.

Unlike other resorts we have visited in the high season, it was never an issue to procure a beach chair.

So we thought we would give it a try to have our first Christmas on the beach there.

All the people who work at the beach shack with the paddleboards, kayaks, etc, should be fired.

but our favorite was the steakhouse in the main hotel, as well as the restaurant with rooftop bar lounge at the beach by the pool.

We traveled as a family of 4 and stayed in the beach area casitas.

We stayed in a renovated beach area casita and enjoyed the large terrace and bathroom.

The Maykana beach area is such a great concept and so much thought has been put into it.

The beach is relaxing and the staff at the kids club were amazing!

This is an incredible resort (shared with four others) on 41 acres of private beaches, mangroves, canals, bike paths, caves, etc.

Most pool pots are filled up early at the beach.

The beach is very clean, free of seaweed.

but you can price this out using restaurant menus and decide for yourself. My favorite restaurants were: Fuego and Brisas at the Fairmont, Casa Amate at the Andaz, Lunch at the Rosemont beach restaurant (the best!)

The facilities are excellent, with access to an amazing beach and a number of pools onsite.

We scheduled an ecotour boat ride which was the highlight of the trip.

Some of the highlights , on-site cenote, hobie cat, canal boat ride.

There are great perks- free paddleboards and kayaks, short guided catamaran trip, an eco tour by boat through the canals (sign up for the last 2 quickly as they fill up).

Kevin and Alejandra at braces were so enjoyable as were Paulette at La Laguna, Noe, who gave us our boat ride, Dorian and Diego, who work at the pool bar, Juan, the pool attendant, Enrique, who served us at Gaia.

Go on the boat tour, Jaun Carlo was very knowledgeable.

The boat trip through the canals at the resort is definitely something to do.

The boat driver was so nice to tell us the birds names & we got to see one of the crocodiles!!

A special shoutout to Noe, who gave us a personal boat tour to see crocodiles, birds and history of the area.

I highly recommend taking the boat ride with Miguel around the canals to learn about the property's history - it might even make you want to buy a Fairmont Residence!

Everyone on staff is incredible, especially Armando and Giovanni from valet, Monserrat at the spa, Leo at Brisas, Luis at the beach pool, and Juan Carlos our boat tour guide.

Make sure you don't skip complimentary boat service and visit the spa for the ultimate experience.

The resort offered a boat ride around the property which was so cool to experience, we went at 9:30 and it was neat to see the birds, fish, and the turtles.

Juan Carlos (boat captain) was so knowledgeable about wildlife.

The boat tour with Miquel was definitely a highlight of our trip and highly recommended, we felt like instant friends, he made us laugh, was incredibly personable and knowledgeable on helping us was to learn about the eco system  and the environment surrounding the Mayacoba property.

Be sure to book your boat tour, spa and dining early so you can experience everything the Fairmont Maykoba has to offer!

Our favorite activities were riding the bikes around the property, paddle boarding, kayaking, pontoon ride, lagoon boat ride and snorkeling.

Most of them say hi and some offer to give you a golf cart ride,

The service could not be friendlier, the little golf cart rides more fun, the rooms more spacious.

There are 3 other hotels and golf club you can walk to as well if you want to get away from the Fairmont restaurants.

It was easy to get around on the golf carts that drive around the property

I’ll start with Mario, the Bellman and Carlos golf cart driver.

The property has free bikes you can borrow and stroll around, golf carts shuttle you through the vast property, riverboat tours that show you all around, and of course a first class golf course.

Golf course is amazing and the spa at Banyan Tree is incredible.

What a beautiful property, with the luscious jungle atmosphere, the white sand beach, the golf course, and the lovely new beach club!

- Our toddler loved the pool and the golf cart transportation, the staff was very accommodating to a 2 year old.

The PGA golf Mayacoba, El Camaleon course is fabulous!

The property is so big you need to be driven in golf carts, or take a bike.

but they had golf carts running all day for easy access.

There are bicycles available everywhere and golf cars to move around the hotel.

The resort is huge, with room for a golf course, pools galore and loads of fabulous restaurants and bars.

Excellent hotel, very comfortable with beautiful landscapes and great golf course, water sports and amenities.

The ocean, the food, the people, the staff, the rooms, the pools, the golf, the bikes!!

The golf carts need to run more often and a teen area for evenings would be great.

We’ve stayed in lots of other hotels around Cancun/Playa del Carmen and this is our favourite.

They are close enough to Playa del Carmen if you want to leave the resort

The Fairmont Myakoba exceeded all of our expectations during our recent dive trip to Playa del Carmen.

We prefer to opt out of the meal plan for half of our stay to allow us to explore Playa del Carmen in the evening, or restaurants in neighboring Mayakoba resorts.

Perfect location near playa del carmen, tulum and cancun for shopping and other tourist activities.

Abraham Limon, went above an beyond making all the arrangements to our son's birthday, and he make sure our Restaurant  Reservation in Playa del Carmen was done properly.

The best quality service and comfort for your dollar in Playa del Carmen for sure.

The hotel is 40 minutes away from Cancun airport and 20 minutes away from Playa Del Carmen, 5th Ave. We used Canada Transfers to get to/from the airport.

She helped us charter a boat for the day to Isla Mujeres and gave perfect recommendations for local restaurants in Tulum and Playa del Carmen.

During our stay, we went 3x to the centre of Playa del Carmen.

We went into central Playa Del Carmen for the action one evening. Recommended activities: 
-Paddle Boarding 
-Archery 
-Bike ride to the ceynote (get a tour!)

Top notch level of service - best I've experienced in my few trips to Playa del Carmen.

We would have breakfast at the hotel and then some drinks at the beach and would go for dinner to Playa del Carmen.

The hotel is about 30 min from Cancun, 10 from Playa del Carmen and about 40 from Tulum which makes it an excellent choice when visiting the sites.

My son & I played golf 3 days, and the 4 of us went into Playa Del Carmen 3 days.

We are not big drinkers and with 2 little kids we would have ended same or even cheaper going ala cart.

My only complaint would be that the food prices, if you're not on the all inclusive plan, were very high for the quality and quantity received.

This is not value for money and the Fairmont's standards are not what I would expect for this price.

A little overpriced based on the ambiance.

We were all inclusive and if I had to pay for meals here I’d be really disappointed.

Upgrading from a King room to double Queen came at a cost of 50usd a night, which honestly seemed like a weird upgrade cost since rooms are the same size.

I felt that the everything (food, drinks, extra amenities) was extremely overpriced to the point of gouging.

Expensive and restricted food at restaurants.

The restaurants are eye wateringly expensive and to be Frank are not worth their prices!

I do not recommend the cafe Maya because it was overpriced and the food was below average.

Let me reiterate, I’m not upset or shocked by the prices.

-Yes, there are silly fees that should be included in the pricing, and taxes of course,

The young man checking us in tried to trick us into upgrading (for only $100 USD more a night) to casitas by telling me everyone else in our group had already done so.

I will beg of everyone who would even think of coming here to STAY AWAY FROM THE FAIRMONT MAYAKOBA AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!! !

Here’s my only recommendation- the food is really expensive.

We bought a $30 small thing of sunscreen in gift shop and it was “natural” which meant it didn’t work and we got burned sooo bad.

The place smelled musty (clearly had not been used in a while).

The pastries were more than a few days old and stale and disgusting.

How do you allow so many people you can't move in the urine filled pools?

Drawbacks were: underfloor heating in the bathroom that could not be switched off, over loud music at the main pool, uncomfortable sunbeds and broken umbrellas, large and overpowering wedding parties.

Room 4207 smelled like mildew from not cleaning the AC and the bathroom vent not working, they sent a dehumidifier up and made me manage and empty it my entire stay.

but it’s almost done
- it does smell like sewage at times at random places not sure why.

handed us cold minty smelling towels and aguas frescas.

We were shocked to smell the seaweed and have such a thick build up of more than 5-10 feet of seaweed in the water that completely prevented swimming in the ocean.

The only negative was the terrace - dark, damp and buggy with no view as it faced into trees.

but did not at first get the room we requested-would not be a big issue if we had not asked for and called to confirm an accessible room one flight up from Lobby 4401 or 4402 to avoid the mold and musty rooms on first floor or pool level that are assesible.

We were not sure if ingredients were fresh (e.g., fish had bad smell), dishes were not necessarily state of the art.

First room offered smelled like mold/mildew.

The new room had a deep paint smell, the hallway light to the bathroom didnt turn off and it blinkered on/off continiously which which was annoying at night, we reported it and nobody fixed it… upon arrival to the new room I stepped on a used contact lense and there was a used qtip on the vanity.

Cons: the rooms that aren’t renovated had lots of little issues while we were there (AC, broken drain, broken shower handle etc)

The Beach was just plain horrible when we visited, mountains of Sargassum rotting by the sand.

That in turn put me off the buffet breakfast seeing people picking food up, breathing on it without a mask and putting it back if they decided they didn’t fancy it.

Welcoming lobby and adjacent huge bar with balconies overlooking the manicured jungle property and (sometimes foul smelling) water ways.

but we certainly were not disappointed with our room regardless of the musty odor.

Would have been great to have at Akumal beach when snorkeling with the turtles -

though we found an offsite cove nearby, which was fine.

Tip: bring a boogie board and swim right at the corner end of the beach restaurant.

Easy access from the beach or boat from the lobby area.

Room Food Service, and Food was not available at the pools, bars, and beach.

but we go to Xcaretpark for snorkel and beach.

The flora and the seashore are also really nice and I enjoyed having a private beach without sellers and with the additional safety which it grants.

Quite conveniently located next to Xcaret, which is easy to access right from the beach of the hotel.

On a brighter note, the location and beach of the hotel are undeniably fantastic, with proximity to Xcaret Park and a beautiful beach.

Paco's Tacos was good fun as well

The area around the beach was excellent.

The scenery is gorgeous, everything is well-maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful, the beach is unparalleled, you are guaranteed to see wildlife roaming around the park at all hours and there is the added benefit of having Mayan ruins on the property.

Huge shout outs to Monica, Frank, Roberto, Samuel, Miguel, Max and of course Raquel.

It’s great to snorkel at the beach by the rocks.

The grounds, staff and accommodations are absolutely excellent.

We had an amazing holiday at the occidental,  the grounds are lovely and the wildlife is amazing!

Also great to see the Mayan ruins in the grounds.

On the plus side the location and grounds of the hotel were lovely with wildlife in abundance.

It is set in lush grounds and is truly beautiful and teeming with wildlife.

Easily one of the best vacations I’ve ever taken because of the energy and staff Xcaret encompasses!

Overall we got exactly what we wanted from this holiday.

Also, at other resorts we’ve received vacation packages worth hundreds of dollars in discounts  for attending a time share presentation.

Booked with BA holidays in Jan sale, and got a really reasonable deal.

First family vacation in 4 years and Occidental at Xcaret was a hit.

They will try to get you to buy in to their vacation club (timeshare type of thing), which could be a deal breaker for some.

but it turns out the free gift is given to you from a sales agent who wants to sign you up for their vacation club timeshares.

This Resort is the best opportunity for an ACTIVE vacation.

This was the best holiday we have been on.

This took away so much from us in enjoying our vacation.

There was enough for everyone to be happy and my kids loved the buffet and the food!

but the Fuego food is excellent and it was a lot of fun for our teen.

but if you're thinking your kids will like big kid water slides Jungala was really fun.

We stayed over Christmas and new years for 10 days and both our kids had the best time of their lives.

We have stayed at many resorts in the area and sometimes choose all-inclusive for the kids,

We came here 10 years ago with our 3 year old daughter and we are back with both our children.

People with teens might find royal a little quiet.

What the hotel really stands out in is its location and the fauna within in, it's beautiful to be able to share that living space within several local species and to see children in awe at their site.

They have a good amount of activities and things to do to keep kids entertained.

We have gone with and without kids and it is always a great experience.

Special thank you to the resort (the woman at concierge that set up our dinner reservation in building 22 december 18, 2023) for recognizing my daughters birthday.

They delivered the crib at 9 pm when my baby was already sleeping on my bed.

This was the 2nd of 3 AI Hotels we stayed in on our family trip with our 10 year old daughter.

Still amazing ten years later, with children this time.

Although they could have been quicker to remove the kids from the pools we loved it.

Having xcaret park next door made this trip amazing for our young children and they were never bored.

The beach amazing and safe for children the pools are very very clean.

Super cheap shopping in playa del Carmen .

Level Royal Xcaret the best place in playa del Carmen.

We've done a few resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

The front desk staff had no solution for me all they suggested was to take a cab to playa del Carmen and get money out of the bank.

We rather travel to playa del Carmen instead of being at the resort.

We spent 4-6 weeks on vacation each year, and spent 7 nights at Barcelo in Cozumel last month as a couple and 11 nights in Playa Del Carmen with our kids, this month.
