It is about 13 km from TaiChung International Airport, about 25 minutes drive from TaiChung Railway Station and High Speed Rail, and a walking distance to the busy FengJia night market; with plenty of shops and eateries restaurants.

Breakfast is acceptable 

Taxi fare from Taichung airport is around TWD400~450.

we took a coach freego in Taoyan airport (NT 240 per person - 2hr) to reach Qingshui station .

During the first time, boyfriend and I took a coach from Taoyuan Airport to Taichung Chao Ma bus stop which took about 2 hours plus (this will allow you to save some money from taking the HSR!).

After a long day in Taichung (early morning from airport and to various attractions and finally check in hotel at night), we were quite pleased with smooth and fast check in.

We took bus from Taoyuan Airport to Chaoma.

In terms of transportation It takes about NTD350-400 to get from the airport to the hotel and it's within NTD200 to get to most other places within Taichung city.

Beacon Hotel offers comfortable lodging, the room is bright, clean, mini-fridge, breakfast in the morning, coffee or tea and cookies available in the lobby, complimentary laundromat on the 8th floor,

The buffet breakfast is good too, with variety choices including cute panda bun.

Breakfast was free with Chinese style spreads of dishes.

Breakfast spread on 12th floor was really good.

There are also breakfast stalls set up right outside the hotel every morning- I will always skip the hotel breakfast to go for these stalls.

Their breakfast is great and comes with variety with local chinese food.

Shower is good and breakfast has some western options as well as local Asian ones.

In addition, we are very satisfied with the prompt check-in and check-out processes, cleanliness of our room (family suite), and the complimentary breakfast served.

Room is near and clean and breakfast is ok.

staff are super friendly, room is reasonably good for the price and the breakfast spread has a good variety.

The reception is at top floor and it offers complimentary breakfast for guests.

All my family members love to stay here, with great breakfast and laundry service.

The breakfast they provided are good too.

They also have a nice and simple breakfast buffet.

But please,  Beacon, please really do consider upgrading the lousy lifts!

Lastly looking for the hotel entrance can be a little hard, cause it’s a small front and the lobby is at the top floor with 2 elevator servicing the hotel.

The only downside is that the lift is probably abit too small.

the entrance is small, if you are carrying luggages from your travel, expect no one to help you out in the hotel entrance since you will only see an elevator, you have to go a few floors up to go to the hotel lobby to check in and check out.

Hotel can consider to improve on this so as to help to alleviate the lift load.

On the day we checked out, they were performing elevator servicing around 8am, so the elevators could not be used then.

Also, the ground floor lift lobby is very small as check in and out are at level 12.

This is a boon and a pain as usually your taxi or bus will not be able to stop in front of the hotel and you gotta drag your luggage some distance to get to the hotel
Lobby on the 12th floor and concierge service on the 1st which sounds okay except there isnt usually anyone manning the concierge desk on the 1st 
Lifts are slow and small and there is only 2 of them so getting anywhere in the hotel is a hassle
Room was average.

Allow more time for checkout as there are only 2 lifts to service all the guests.

Lifts are just too slow n got to be very patient

this may take a long time to wait for the elevator.

However, the Lift were not enough to accommodate the rush hour in the morning.

So need to factor a little time more waiting for lift.

I very lost n clueless on how to use the phone to control the light thou.. 
- wifi is not workable for me despite follow instruction to enter password and etc.. 
- need to use the card to press the lift.. both card with hubby.. end up I'm stuck inside the lift

But generally still loving it will definitely come back if have the chance. !

only bad pts, is the lift got to wait qutie awhile if fully booked.

The disadvantage will be that there are only two lifts serving the entire hotel which might get too busy during morning as well as checking in and out timing.

The Not So Positives:
There are only 2 lifts serving the hotel.

Unpleasant smell coming out from the stairway at level 5 as it's just next to the lift area.

Lastly, the noise from the corridor was horrible and you will be waken up by the other's conversation or opening of room doors.

But there are a lot of tourists group,  which make the morning very noisy.

and their attitude is just "nothing i can do" "nothing more i can provide"

oh, also we can hear people walking and talking along our cooridoor.

but as a twin was quiet small for two people and nowhere to put luggage.

remember to check  your door is closed cause it is not fully automated and I think they should improve on  the sound proof.

The ride to the HSR and TRA should be about 10 minutes or 250-300NT, depending on traffic conditions.

Even night market just downstairs, I didn't hear a very loud noise/music from my room (we were at 6th floor).

At night, down stair of the hotel is crowded and noisy.

In addition, when sign is "on" the bell should not be triggered even when it's pressed
- improve sound proofing of the rooms

other minor bad point is it's close to town so a bit noisy especially at night.

we had to lug our luggage across street as the cab cannot drop us directly in front of hotel due to traffic direction .

Maybe a bit noisy  at night, since  the city sleeps  late.

- Rooms are not really that soundproof, so you could hear the next door if they raise their voices.

However, journey can take between 45-60 mins depending on traffic.

The rooms are from the 5th through the 11 floors, so you are isolated from the street noise below.

Two tv provided, adults watching tv without disturbing the kids at night.

We were given a complimentary room upgrade by the friendly staff.

Though I wasn’t able to get the names of the staff, I think the customer service was really really genuine and good.

I was very impressed with one of the hotel staff (the girl wearing specs).

If you are a foodie, ask the hotel reception for their food map.

Overall, hotel is very accommodating and provide my request of baby amenities like baby bed & baby bath tub.

All you read about the location of the hotel is genuine.

the hotel is located at a busy junction, not easy to spot and the reception is at 12th floor.

Location and the price make sense if one want to walk night market in Fengjia.

however there are several rooms that smell of cigarette smoke, either from previous occupants or when neighbor room is smoking and the smoke seeps into your room through the toilet vent.

one suggestion is that it would be quicker if they change the key card swipe for the elevator access into sensor activated, it would save a lot of time for many guests who couldn't get it right and managed to swipe their key cards many times.

though and there's no bathtub which is ok since i'm not a fan.

but I really doubt the exception exist for HIX brand, it's really dispointing me as an IHG fans and platinum member.

When we got there it was still around 30 something degrees and even the foyer had no aircon

The elevators had no vent it was exposed outside building with three sided glasses.

The air conditioning is very noise and temperature is out of control .

However , ac in the room is not cool , we are unable to adjust the temperature

The cold penetrate thru the glass and made the room freezing.

Amenities such as Tea, Coffee, Bottled Water, Shampoo, Shower Gel, Towels, Toothbrush were provided in-room

They didn’t explain to me at all when checking about the amenities choices at their counter which are not offered in the room, and when I asked for a sewing kit, I needed to go downstairs to fetch it at the reception counter.

The opaque bathroom glass wall is really useless in my opinion - serve no function.

Speaking of "views", other reviewers have commented on the shower so I won't.

There were a couple of areas which caused inconvenience: as the bathroom was using opague glass, it would be inconvenient if you stay with friend instead of couple or family.

One thing to note, the shower is enclosed by opaque glass and can be seen in the room.

I don't know if this hotel was under the pressure to recruit new IHG Memership or any other reason.

The water pressure of bathroom was still very strong.

They might get an eyeful when passing by or entering the bathroom when you're showering.

One word of caution, the washroom was enclosed by opaque glass and a silhouette of you taking shower would show in the room.

The bathroom have complete set of towels, shampoo and body wash is also provided.

In other words, if you are in the room and someone is showering, you would see his/her silhouette!

Upon investigation, realized the smoke is coming from the washroom area, meaning some bloke was probably enjoying itself in the same area on the upper, lower floors or the next room to mine.

The bathrooms have glass panels which make it sort of "see through".

The only thing I would mention, is that in the bathroom, the door doubles as a shower door and a bathroom door.

The bathroom was separated by a milky-glass wall.

Minor drawbacks include 1) lack of variations for the breakfast which was included in the room rate (as selections were basically the same for our 4-night stay)  and 2) the semi transparent glass of the toilet, which was problematic as I was unable to shower with friends' presence inside the room.

The other great thing is breakfast (included) with plenty of choice of western style and home cooking meal.

The front desk provided great service as usual, and the service during breakfast at the Great Room seemed to have improved somewhat as well.

We booked direct with the hotel for a Room with 2 Single Bed for 3 nights at ~5900TWD which included complimentary internet and breakfast (Spread was good).

This my first time stay in Taichung holiday inn express, the location is really good ,near the train station and 一中 street .The front desk is really helpful, they tell me where I can eat delicious food.

We heard this hotel boasts the best breakfast out of all the holiday inn express in taiwan, and it did live up to the reputation.

The free breakfast is spectacular, with a wide selection of both Asian and Western food, more selections than even some buffet places.

nice Room, nice location, nice staff, nice breakfast.

Hotel do provide complimentary breakfast and there is a coffee station on each lift lobby.

but tidy bathroom, restaurant is under renovation but they still have well prepared breakfast.

The t almost canceled this hotel reservation because it sent an email mentioned the restaurant is being renovated, breakfast will be delivered to the room.

Breakfast is nice,too.The long distant bus terminal is a few yards away from the hotel.

Free shuttle service is available from Taichung HSR that alighted us at the Taichung Park Bus Stop which was a 5-10min walk away.

Checked with the front desk for the timetable of bus 302 from the Taichung Park to the airport, she told me that it might take up to 2-3 hours even after the busy hours in the morning.

There are many bus stop around, you can take that to go anywhere,,,,,,,,,

2 minutes'walk from the bus stop that connects you from Tai Chung HSR.

Bus stops are only adjacent to the hotel.

Located right opposite to the Taichung park and  near bus terminal to other tourist attractions around Taichung county, it’s a good choice for travelers indeed.

I was at this hotel for 3 nights and my review as follows:

1) Location:
It is right opposite Taichung Park, the shuttle bus service from Taichung HSR will stop at the park just opposite the hotel.

Direct bus to sun moon lake right next door.

but we mostly used the bus system which works well.

The best thing was that the bus terminus of this 302 was just half a street away from hotel.

Nearest park is nice place to take a brisk walk
Hotel is just beside the bus stand so good option for going out different place.

They were supremely helpful in answering our questions about public transport and buses.

Location wise, this was a short walk to the bus terminal and train station.

Suggest provide a shuttle mini bus from taichung HST to the hotel.

I stayed at Holiday Inn Express Taichung Park 1 night 1 QUEEN BED PARK VIEW NONSMOKING Upgrade 1 step for Platinum member with 1 drink.This is location can used Shattle bus form HSR taichung staion(Free!!!)

The train station (Taiwan Rail) is around 10 minutes walking distance and the bus stop to the High Speed Rail Station is nearby to this hotel apart from taxi services.

The location couldn't have been better, only 1 minute walk away from the bus terminus, with buses to many places in the area (Puli, Sun Moon Lake, Cingjing, and more).

right next to the hotel is Nantou bus which you can take bus to go to Sunmoon lake.

The reception desk has a pamphlet from the centre with the timings for the above buses.

Not only that he and his colleagues help us to find the best ways to take buses and move around the city and travel to tourist attractions.

The shower is a glass wall though, so if make sure your friend / roommate won't peek when you are in the shower!!

My only issue is that the wall of the bathroom is frosted glass and you can almost see what the other person is doing while bathing.

While the room was nice, the bathroom was a little weird: it's only separated from the room by a frosted glass wall.

It is also cold because the entire front of wall of the room is just a glass panel.

however, we could enjoy park view just walked out the room and only couple steps from a seating corner with floor-to-ceiling window to view the park.

As a Spire Élite member, I finally got an upgrade to a room with a great view from this not-so-generous Holiday Inn Express this time.

Room was spacious and we were given the one on 12th floor which provided a good view.

First stay was being upgraded to a corner room,

Room perfect well maintained and cleaned daily.

The room is spacious and comes with everything we needed.

I wrote to the hotel asking them to treat the room to prevent it happening to the next guest.

We enjoyed staying in our room after a day of visit.

Hotel Location is in city center, booked 2 rooms they kindly gave us park view rooms. hotel amenity is fine(instant noodle and 2 sun cake..they are yummy!)

If you get lake side room, view is excellent!

Hotel room is not big yet acceptable as compared with the price.

The rooms are nice, clean and spacious (especially in Asian standards).

The internet is excellent with a hardwire connection in every room.

At 5:55, the smoke detector went off again.

Overall i would say the only thing good is staff is nice n breakfast is good

However if u staying for work i don advise unless u love noise and hotel guest that do not listen to rules

Actually the car park looks very old and filthy, which is a big contrast to the hotel.

This is a non-smoking hotel and the control of cigarette smoke is much improved comparing to my previous stay a couple years ago.

but imagine my surprise when strong scent of cigarette smoke kept infiltrating into my room just when I was about to head to sleep.

Having a pleasant view welcoming me in the morning was indeed a great way to start the day.

During our check-in, Sky offers us a room with a good view facing the Taichung park.

but I read quite some local bloggers wrote in Chinese about their elite status upgrade automatically to the lake view room experiences and recommended this hotel to their viewers, so I was wondering why they have different attitudes about their upgrade policy.

First time in Taichung & decided to stay at this hotel as it’s just next to Taichung Park.I was lucky to have the room overlooking the Taichung Park.

Firstly the room view is very nice, overlooking the Taichung Central Park.

The room was great - large and clean and had everything we needed including a great view.

Room has a nice view of the park below

Mysterious chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor

It's a 5 minute walk from the Taichung Rail/Bus Station, not to be confused with the Taichung High Speed Rail Station, overlooking Taichung Park.

Reception staff were very kind to upgrade us to a room with Taichung Park view and even offered to provide us with a baby bath tub for the kid.

but as they are window glass looking outside, you get a view with the slower ride.

My room faced the Park and window view was scenic.

The room was clean and bright with pleasant view from the window.

He really enjoy seeing the view of Taichung park from our room even the park are under renovation.

Never could figure out the A/C temp control,

Bottled water is provided with a water heater and a small drawer stocked with local tea & quaint coffee drip system.

You need to ask the staff for an additional heater in order to be able to sleep at night.

The AC was the other weird thing in the room.

1 bedside table and it is occupied by a large controller that controls lights, A/C, etc and impossible to turn a light on during the night (i.e.

The rooms feel ever so slightly dated and have the most frustrating system for controlling the a/c and all the lights - it must have sounded like a fantastic system to install

Thirdly, the A/C unit in my room was noisy.

In the wine and cigar bar you could literally freeze, air conditioning is fixed probably below 20 degrees.

It close to HSR shuttle bus station and the Breakfast also good in service as well.

This hotel offers a wonderful and very famous buffet when you choose this hotel you must try it.

From the extremely helpful desk staff to Chef Jamie in the buffet.

The breakfast buffet was good and the chefs were helpful with recommendations.

Breakfast spread is really good with all kind of choices.

The highlight of the stay there was the wonderful chef Jacky, who would point out and explain all the new and exotic foods i saw there, many for the first time, during daily breakfast.

Beds are comfortable and everyone slept like babies .. haha
Breakfast is quite okay .. just a bit too dimmed, need more light to start up a new day .. just a little thought ..

We liked the breakfast provided and especially the 担担 noodles.

The breakfast is vast with lots of choice.

Verity of foods for breakfast, mostly Japanese style and Taiwan style.

I did not enjoy breakfast too much so I went out to soy bean milk place near by the hotel.

Buffet breakfast menu was the same everyday during our 4-day stay,

The choice of food for breakfast was excellent, catering for European, Japanese and Chinese/Taiwanese food tastes.

Impeccable House-Keeping, Breakfast large enough to see you through the day, one is assured of a very comfortable stay.
