Hotel is about 20 min casual walk to the Sanlitun shopping area.

It's not too far from the embassy district, subway or the Sanlitun area which has alot of western restaurants and stores.

The hotel was happy to provide a cot, slippers and toothbrush for my young son and happily allowed him to roam and explore the outdoor area behind the lobby.

Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

The location is very good - I know the area 东直门 very well as I used to live here.

I stayed there for 2 nights for a business trip, the hotel's location is quite good, it is closed to Taikoo Li Sanlitun a very famous and modern shopping and entertainment area, and Guijie, restaurant area, bot of them are extremely poplular for the youth.

I lived in Beijing 7 years so on a visit back I stayed here as I know the area well.

We particularly liked the Dashilar and Quinmen area

The public areas are decorated with quirky touches and the rooms are simple and very comfortable.

Would stay again if I needed to be in Sanlitun area.

Location wise is in the sanlitun area which is good for shopping and restaurants.

About 15 minutes from the excellent Airport Train from Dongzhimen metro, and minutes from one of the main shopping areas, Sanlitun.

Hotel is close to Sanlitun area for food or shopping

North and West of hotel are also interesting commercial areas.

Holiday Inn Express Beijing Dongzhimen is a very good hotel for a short stay in a very good area of Beijing.

good clean accommodation with a decent breakfast, bar area a bit small and a touch expensive compared to nearby bars.

The room was terribly hot, and since most hotels in China don't let you set the thermostat temperature, I had to move to a room at the top so I wouldn't hear the street noise while keeping the window open.

My room had a faint whiff of smoke (probably why the window was open when I first arrived),

The room windows open to allow air in if needed.

Fortunately the pollution level was not too high so leaving the windows open was viable.

I was dissapointed how poor the front desk staff english was!

There is nothing particular I didn't like, maybe the fact that English is poor around the city (including this hotel).

but the blatant smoking made this hotel really poor.

but their English is poor and that sometimes leads to minor misunderstandings however that would not deter me from staying their on my next visit to Beijing later this year.

Check out was not very easy, as invoice was different to booking with no clear reason and explanation was very poor, which was frustating.Hotel shuttle service did not work, when we needed it.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom had lots of complimentary amenities to offer.

Room was clean and we did not encounter any noise (15th floor).

This hotel is a good no frills hotel that is close to plenty of places to eat and just a walk to many shopping malls, its also just a short taxi ride to a lot of main attractions in Beijing and a thriving night life.

It's in the Sanlitun Embassy district so also close to shopping at Taikoo Li and Parkview Green, great food and great bars/pubs

It is close to great leap brewing, April Gourmet grocery store, and the shopping in Sanlitun so  it is convenient.

Well localised close to resto and shopping.

I try to stay here whenever I'm in Beijing, close to Sanlitun, good shopping and wide selection of bars.

Very close proximity to the Beijing's shopping, nightlife and sight seeing.

Take rooms facing garden and residential blocks for quieter experience, or facing the street for views of the city.

It is within the correct rings for tour guides to pick you up and has a great peking duck restaurant across the street - Jing Zun Peking Duck restaurant.

The bed was comfortable; only issue with sleeping was the street noise - somewhat out of control of the Hotel,

There were some dining options across the street.

They went out of their way to may us feel comfortable at our stay and went above their duty by personally showing us around the city of Beijing, giving us directions and recommendations and even took us out to their favourite street food and drinking hangouts.

The street that the hotel is situated is lively with good food options.

We ate in the Duck restaurant across the street one night and thought it was the best dinner of our trip.

Just up the street there are a few traditional noodle and rice Chinese restaurants.

There are good restaurants nearby and the duck restaurant across the street is awesome.

A nice Peking Duck restaurant across the street.

It's situated in a smaller street between big roads, which makes the environment peaceful.

Many interesting small restaurants on the small street across from the hotel.

The famous Silk Street Market is a very short taxi, tuk tuk ride.

About halfway down the street, the hotel is on the right.

Same standard as other Holiday Inn hotels.Clean room and bathroom with some amenities, also wifi worked well.Staff responsive even if sometimes there are some communication problems.Breakfast with many options to choose from.A small store across the street if urgently need something.Close to Sanlitun and other restaurants and bars, if you're into the nightlife the location of the hotel will not disappoint.

Clean & efficient hotel. Far enough from the main roads to damper the street noise yet walking distance (10 minutes!)

Near to the subway and to the sanlitum bar street.

but a bit uncomfortable as the temperature of the AC was maintained at 25-26 .

However, the downside is the temperature in the rooms.

Step out of the hotel to the left there are just a good couple of meters to go for Tiananmen and the historic area around, to the right is more non-touristic and also a good number of restaurants.

The Wangfujing shopping area is also very close.

but easy walking distance both to the main shopping area and the Forbidden City.

My husband saw workers smoking cigarettes in the area where the washed clothes when he was on his way to the gym to exercise.

They also have a play area for the kids in floor 4 if I am not forget.

The hotel has a great location - right next to Tiananmen square in the Wangfujing area of Beijing.

Reception, hallways and public areas- The reception area is clean

The public areas of this hotel are excellent as was the food and most of the staff.

Fabulous hotel, helpful staff and a great area.

Area is fine, lots of people asking to take you on rides, taxis etc..simply say no.

The location is unbeatable, we could walk to the local malls and shopping area and also to the forbidden city.

The room was divided into 4 areas: a sleeping area, the dressing room, a living room and a bathroom.

Smoking areas well segregated from the non-smoking hotel areas.

I enjoyed this hotel - the location is near the exit to the Forbidden City and down the street from a shopping area.

Just a few blocks from the main shopping area and the Forbidden City.

Forbidden city ten mins away , Wangfujing area 10-15 mins walk the other way .

To overcome this walk a couple of blocks up to the main shopping area or to the metro.

You will need your room card to gain access to the upper floors.

she made a face and muttered something loudly in Chinese on being asked why we were being charged for breakfast when we have already prepaid while booking.

Very convenient to charge meals to the room and pay with a credit card upon checkout.

You can get a much better place in the same area with the same money they charge you

Avoid being charged 5 TIMES THE COST BY ILLEGAL TAXI DRIVERS who lurk at the airport.

We ran into an issue with our credit card and Penny at the front desk along with a lady from the back office (sorry, did not catch her name) were extremely helpful in getting us connected to our credit card company.

(they cannot take an imprint of the card as in Europe)Be aware of this!

Please NOTE - if you want your sheets changed, leave the card on the bed ( some people complain that sheets were never changed, like a lot of good hotels, they give you the option of clean or tidy up ( to save the environment).

*The hotel charge you if you want more than 2 tea bags a day in your mini bar and they do not provide sugar or milk
*There are limited basic restaurants across the road which serve average Chinese food.

They are usually scammers who will try to charge you insane amounts for a hutong tour.

We also found very strange that they would only give one key card for a family of three (and yes, we did ask for another one).

They tried to charge it again upon checking out.

when we arrived to Kapok hotel they immediately asked if we want to upgrade the room for additional charge.

Still, had we arrived the next day we would have been charged a no-show, am sure.

As I was settling my bill, a chap at reception had been charged twice for his room.

if thats the case, why are you charging me for an upgrade??

They also over charged me so I had to spend quite of lot of time working that out - so be careful.

They will charge 200 RMB, so you better negotiate it down to at least 150 because the meter fare is only about 80.

but the hotel needs a deep cleaning and new towels.

The cleaning of the bathrooms needs to be improved.

The rooms were dirty and cleaning was below par.

The room interior in general shows age and not a good regular deep cleaning.

The wifi was very Poor , And the cleaning also.

The guy from housekeeping finished making the beds and walked over and around the cookie multiple times never picking it up.

but it was worse so we begrudgingly accepted the room as the smaller room that was clean from our first visit was occupied by other guests.

he understood our needs and actually arranged for housekeeping to speed up their cleaning and we got our rooms after our breakfast at about 11ish am, just so we can have a rest and freshen up before starting our day.

Other minor issues were inconsistency of the cleaners who sometimes left coffee and soaps etc and sometimes just didn't bother and useless in room wifi

Although the room was cleaned everyday, our bedding was not changed during our entire stay (4 nights) which was slightly odd.

Housekeeping could use some follow-up inspections, the room wasn't as clean as it was last time and I had to call for someone to come up and finish the work, that's a little annoying.

The room service as not good, seems they just simple clean up and there is no replacement of the amenities.

Mine had plaster falling from the ceiling that ended up on the floor and I think the cleaning crew really only makes the bed, replaces linens and cleans the bathroom since the plaster was there most of my stay.

The bath tub was stained and not properly cleaned.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and all the housekeeping did each day was fold the quilts up. *The toilets were terrible as we were required to put used toilet paper in the bin in the bathroom (Chinese style!)

but that someone from the maintenance staff would come to look at the room to see if it could be cleaned.

However, I feel that the cleaning staff could've used bleach or another cleaning product on the toilets to reduce the "urine" smell.

Two times during our stay it was not replenished by the room cleaners.

but the angle is poor which means it is easier to life it.

The staff are a different story altogether - their English was very poor and communicating with them was a huge challenge when I had to ask for a map or directions - we were unsuccessful and had to do this on our own.

With that said, this hotel is average

PROS:
* Location: you can walk to tianemen and the forbidden city
* Price: it's relatively cheap for the location

CONS
* A/C in my room didn't get cold enough
* Internet was very poor.

After struggling with the reception staff's poor understanding of English (Google Translate helped enormously) we rejected our room and requested a cleaner one.

but their English is not enough to work in the reception or restaurant:( 
It was poor quality for the money you pay.

though it worked fine in reception.Finally the shower had very poor water pressure.

Selection for breakfast was poor and dinner was only okay.

So I had good connection sitting next to the tv while my husband had poor connection sitting by the window.

The management has done a poor job of keeping up the facilities (pluming, fixtures, furniture, etc. ).

They just need to work on helping the staff to be able to cope with the needs of guests so that they do not have to make excuses for poor service.

And the poor sweet maids' uniforms, were torn with holes!!!!!!

The breakfast has poor selection and is outrageously priced!

Point in case : this hotel is centrally located only minutes away from the metro station, famous Tiananmen Square and the shopping malls including thankfully a Starbucks and Dunking Donuts, when it comes to food sorry

The location would be hard tp beat..300m to forbidden palace, 10 min walk to tiannamen square and 5 min walk to main shopping street.

It about 600m away from thé Forbidden City and approx 1 km away from Wangfujing shopping belt.

Close to good shopping at small stores and mall.

Location is a stone’s throw away from Wangfujing street, where the shopping district is (Apple store, Prada, Adidas).

It is located close to the Wangfujing station and market where you can shop and eat well.

The location is superb, close to several of the main sights and a 5 minute walk from the amazing Wangfujing street shopping area with a 6 floor mall down one side and the most comprehensive and expansive collection of designer shops you are likely to find anywhere down the other side.

Good hotel in an excellent location, close to to Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Shopping Malls 10 to 15 mins walk.

This was our first hotel in Beijing and it has a great location - within walking distance to The Forbidden City and Tianamen Square as well as loads of shopping and restaurants.

Wangfujin street and tian'anmeng east mrt was within walking distance.

The hotel is in a good location with great restaurants on same street and nearby.

It is down the street from the Forbidden City which you can see standing in front of the hotel.

This was a lovely hotel on a fairly quiet street

The bed is comfortable, there are free drinks in the fridge, close to the Forbidden city, across the street from a good restaurant and the staff was nice

There are wonderful little restaurants directly across the street (one appeared to be open 24 hours) and a few little convenience/gift shops nearby.

Walking distance to APM mall, food street as well as forbidden city.

The street is quiet both morning and night (but not dead) that means you will definitely get a good sleep.

Plenty of eating places in the local streets.

In terms of location, immediately down the street is the exit portal to the  Forbidden City.

The APM mall a few blocks down the street has a great variety of restaurants on the 5th and 6th floor which makes it a great spot for vacationers.

The only complaint for me was the breakfast, which was a bit disorganized and lacking a bit; the best thing about the hotel is the location, it’s walking distance to Forbidden City and Snack Street!

The Hotel is near the forbidden city and the wangfujing street, this is the main advantage of this hotel.

It was pretty upsetting as streets in China, especially city centers, are usually very well illuminated and pretty controlled.

Taxi fare to touristy areas was about 35 Y and the walk to the subway was 10 to 15 minutes, perfect for stretching your legs.

The location is in the residential area, it takes about 20 minutes walk to the nearest subway station and Niu Street where all the Halal eateries.

Hotel is situated in a residential area approx.

The breakfast was a nice quiet dinning area with the best coffee during my trip to China.

2) You can have made-to-order omelet, noodles or even exotic rice cake at breakfast area.

but in a nice area to explore a bit in the evenings to see some of the Beijing locals.

Getting to the SOHO area (Sanlitun) will take you about 45 minutes in the evening and about 20 minutes at night when there’s no traffic.

The room was very large with a little sitting area by the window and plenty of space to spread out.
