We were supplied with a fan and left the window open as much as possible,

Unfortunately there was an air conditioning unit out side the kitchen which went on & off all night and had a very loud rattle.

We we’re changed room because we had a kitchen extractor fan outside our bedroom window which was going on all night.

Rooms aren't well ventilated and get stuffy at night even with the window open.

On entering it appeared drab and we wondered if the heating had been off for a few days.

We had to have the window open as there’s no air conditioning.

Bedroom very poor, shabby/grubby, view of skip and bins, bathroom freezing and only accessible by steps
No cosmetics, basic tea tray
Bed comfy and clean
Lounges smart

but unfortunately because it had no air con we needed the window open because it’s summer, consequently all the flies came in …. Ugh!

The window frames, both inside and out and radiators and walls were showing chipped and peeling paint.

However, the solution was easy, I turned the Radiator off and we never needed to turn it on again.

Heating could be a problem in very cold weather as small radiator in a room with large window and high ceiling.

There was rust down the radiator and skirting boards missing with a very old door.

Only niggle was that they have put a roller blind and no curtains in the room, this is both not effective and aesthetically poor, the room does not look finished without curtains.

however was a total shock and disgrace there was barely four feet square to use and you certainly could not fully open the door because of the radiator on the inside wall.

Apparently this was not good enough and she returned to the desk to complain about the possibility of tripping over the leads and took offence at the logical suggestion that she placed the fans on the dressing table.

We immediately rang to reception and they provided 2 fans which circulated hot air and due to the lack of sockets were plugged in within our walk way, so if we got up for the toilet we would trip over the lead, apparently that would be my fault cos I'd requested a fan!! £194!!.

Air con would have been nice as room was a little warm although there were 3 sash windows in room

The bar areas and dining room were very clean and comfortable.

Public ares clean with large bar area with comfy seating , drink prices very reasonable given it’s a hotel and certainly much cheaper then bars in Keswick itself .

The hotel is very clean and welcoming with a lovely spacious bar area.

The Bar area is recently updated and it very comfy in a contemporary style.

The bar area was much improved and spacious.

although the floor had a big slope which could be challenging going to the bathroom in the dark😂

An old lovely looking building reveals a lovely bar area and dining room overlooking the hotels well maintained gardens.

We were told that are room was ready & all the information we required, then went for afternoon tea in the bar area that was very pleasant.

The service is exceptional throughout the hotel - special mention for Sophie on reception, the food in the restaurant is first class and the bar area is very relaxing and comfortable.

We booked dinner, bed and breakfast because I really don't think Keswick has many restaurants that sell quality food, mostly pub grub.

A very good selection of cooked, continental and cereals for breakfast.

The positive side to the hotel is that the staff are mostly very helpful (even finding me a charger to ‘reset’ my toothbrush) and the food was good, with hot and cold items for breakfast,

but what a lovely atmosphere, the lovely lady from Hungary who helped us with breakfast was so very lovely.

Breakfasts were sumptuous and had an adequate variety of offerings.

Breakfast was buffet style, plentiful and served in a lovely restaurant overlooking gardens .

The dinner was of a good standard as was the breakfast.

It must be said that the staff were all excellent and attentive and the food the buffet breakfast was fine,

Breakfast is a buffet, except tea coffee & toast which are served at your table.

Very peaceful sleep and then high quality all you can eat breakfast.

We did not eat dinner at the hotel only breakfast.

Staff very attentive, Philip in dining room in the evening, is very welcoming & friendly.

The dining room is so classy, as is the bar and lounge areas too.

All public rooms, bar lounge, dining room are very nice & the price of drinks very reasonable.

The hotel has interesting architectural features, is well maintained with plenty of seating in the various bar and lounge areas and dining room.

The rabbits on the croquet lawn provided a constant cabaret from the huge dining room.

The Lonsdale Dining Room exceeded our expectations.

The dining room team are also exceptional, like a well oiled machine, led brilliantly by a very pleasant and enthusiastic lady.

The common parts and particularly the dining room are on a grand scale and it is easy to imaging how it appeared a hundred and twenty years ago when Keswick, and this hotel was the major railway destination.

The food and service in the dining room were superb.

The dining room was also in need of fresh decoration.

Plenty of room in the lounge and space between tables in the dining room.

We stayed three nights and must praise all the staff from housekeeping, reception , dining room and catering.

The hotel was nicely decorated for Christmas, as was the party night dining room.

Choices to suit all served in beautiful dining room by wonderful attentive staff.

The dining room is very well organised and the waiting staff are really efficient.

The surprise was the dining room: on our visit two meals were included.

Dinner was absolutely superb with plenty of choices, beautiful food, and amazing service in the Dining Room.

The grand dining room serves a delicious 3 course dinner, the bar and lounges are bright and  relaxing and bedrooms newly decorated and comfortable.

but the service is another level- friendly, efficient, cheerful.

All staff very helpful, friendly and professional.

I did find the staff friendly and tried to help to the best of their ability,

My wife and I have stayed at the Keswick country house hotel several times this visit again did not disappoint friendly professional staff food and service are excellent.

Came here for my husbands 60th for 2 nights, upgraded to a deluxe first arrival what a beautiful period property still lovely features inside panelling etc the room was large with stunning views of the mountains buffet breakfast perfect staff attentive and friendly, the only let down was the bathroom it wasn’t just dated

We spent some time in the beutiful gardens before heading out to a pre arranged engagement.

The hotel had a lovely lawn, garden, and large and comfortable lounge/bar area.

Gardens well kept with lovely seating areas to enjoy the great verses on the hills .

The gardens are also lovely and quiet to sit and have a drink in at the end of the day.

The gardens are beautiful & well maintained.

Built in 1869 as railway hotel it is situated in its own lovely gardens.

The weather has been hot for March, we have been very lucky so made the most of the lovely gardens.

There is ample parking and well looked after gardens to relax in.

The location of our room wasn’t great with a view over the bins despite being told at the time of booking that we were on the side of the hotel overlooking the garden?

We had a nice room overlooking the garden which was very pleasant.

We ate a tasty full cooked breakfast each morning in the hotel restaurant with a table that overlooked the lovely gardens and spent a few hours throughout the weekend at different times in the hotel's bar/lounge.

The garden is just gorgeous to sit in and enjoy drinks or a cream tea.

Breakfast was were the hotel excelled, the room where we ate was lovely light and airy with a great view of the garden which is very well kept; the staff were attentive and polite and the choice of food was very good.

We chose to have Dinner at the Hotel both nights and the quality of both the food and service in the Restaurant was exceptional.

Dined in the restaurant on our last night.

The very good 3 course evening meals are £36 pp if paid for separately, which we did twice.

The meals especially in the evening are amazingly prepared and presented like on master chef.

Lovely choice of menu & food well cooked & presented.

Decoration in the lounges is tastfully modernized and a traditional and deljcious menu for your lunch selscfion.

The staff were very helpful - the packaged lunch they offered was excellent, reasonably priced, and was appreciated during my walk in the countryside.

fantastic food always a lovely feel from the moment you arrive to leaving.

The food is excellent and having eaten out is Keswick many times over the last 20 odd years I actually wouldn’t eat anywhere else other than this hotel, it’s one of the reasons why we like the hotel so much.

Evening meals were very good with waiter service.

Unfortunately that meant that you could have the dog in specific rooms, which were in a separate building adjacent to the main hotel,

Stephanie, the general manager, sorted us out with a lovely room.

Rooms are comfortable and have everything you need.

Clean ,comfortable and very welcoming staying in room 315 was a few stairs up and unfortunately at the back of the hotel

The room was very spacious with a good sized wardrobe.

When we return to Keswick staying at this hotel would depend on other rooms being available .

When having a shower, you could smell sweat and musty aroma which is not great.

There was a distinct smell of drains too.

Only criticism room wad a bit tired in decorating and a bit of a musty smell in  landing to room

The room we were in must have just been finished because it smelled of paint.

But the real issue was our bathroom which was absolutely filthy!!

but the bathroom had black mould in a few places.

Due to unpleasant odour checked inside pillow cases to find dirty & stained pillows.

Whilst their room was very large and beds comfortable it was a bit more dated and there was a slightly musty smell in the entrance hall.

Made a reservation with this filth of a place

Ended up having to close window, which on a warm night wasn't idea,  Also green light from smoke detector kept flashing s beam across the ceiling.

but the bathroom was just plain out of date - it worked and it was clean but for the price I would have expected better final touches - damp and flaking ceiling and the seals at the bottom of the tiles had black mould Carpet in the bedroom was very old and there were screws about to poke through in a number of places - we put a book over them as they hurt our feet.

Our room (318) had obviously just been decorated, a smell of paint and new carpet.

The only negative is the flashing smoke detector light in the room which disturbed my sleep, a common problem in hotels these days.

The sash windows open sufficiently to ventilate (but not to smoke out of)!

No musty smell in the corridors which you often find in older properties.

We walked into a freezing cold room which smelled of damp, the bed was a double bed, not king size.

Found all staff members to be polite and courteous.

I can't praise the chefs and staff enough.

A great pit stop welcoming a slightly older clientelle.

Visited for two nights , Staff excellent, Public areas very smart, Dining very good, Drinks reasonably priced and superb location and car parking .

On check out I was just given card machine to pay , not even question how was our stay.

This hotel is outdated and overpriced, with a restaurant called the lake view without a view of the lake.

The hotel was expensive and completely disappointing.

If I hadn’t have already paid to stay the Tuesday and Wednesday night I’d have left and gone to an actual four star hotel.

This was an expensive stay and you could see where corners were cut.

The room felt sumptuous, generously proportioned and elegantly upholstered with expensive, high quality rich fabrics.

All in all I feel the cost of the stay certainly did not reflect on the quality of the rooms, food or staff - i think you are paying a high price for the location and view.

All in all, worth the price for a double room, disappointing if you pay a lot more.

We would have preferred a cheaper room if it had a bathroom

My only complaint was our inability to use the Spa facilities which we had to pay extra £20/ per day.

but a room rate of £450+ is a bit excessive for what you get, even allowing for the Lake District premium.

however personally I do not feel that the hotel was value for the money paid.

however the price to pay for this stunning outlook is constant attacks off wasps and flys which is annoying and a bit of a relaxation killer.

However, the price for dinner had not been reduced due to under staffing issues!

We came just before they announced new lockdown restrictions, and instead of offering compensation or another trip they kept us in the room and charged us for overpriced room service.

This is a grand, historic and huge older property which will be costly and complicated to maintain, which the management succeed in doing without loosing the character of the building and reinforces the overall sumptuous ambience of the hotel.

We went to the spa on a half day package, inclusive of lunch.

Stayed here for anniversary, was upgraded to a suite, very spacious, 3 nights booked in the lakeside restaurant, delicious food overlooking stunning views of the lake,great breakfast, luxurious spa, staff were all friendly and helpful, excellent customer service from time of booking to sadly leaving, will return 🥰

The grounds of this hotel is a sight to behold with a gorgeous facade and stunning views of Lake Bassenthwaite,
The food was first class served by a lovely young man called Sam who was friendly

Spa facilities were great and food on half board was absolutely great far exceeding our expectations as well.

From the rooms to the amazing breakfast in the Lakeview restaurant I couldn't recommend this place enough

Went to Armathwaite hotel and spa,  for my wife's birthday,  booked for 2 nights,  got a room upgrade,  which was fantastic,  the food was really good, the wife  used the spa which was free to use, the staff was really polite and helpful,  Definitely go again, Well Recommended,

An amazing stay, we stayed for the night and had full spa treatment were made to feel extremely welcome, the place was beautiful kept original plus a touch of modern with the spa addition, lovely dining and food was a lovely nights stay would highly recommend

We do not mind paying for a food,  and we love fine dining,

“I don’t know it’s a new menu” very helpful.

Delightful, attentive staff … wonderful room (air conditioned) overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake and delicious lunch and dinner. Being a bad sleeper I took advantage (slightly sceptically!)

The approach to the hotel is really impressive and there's plenty of parking Lovely facilities,  food was excellent and staff very helpful.

Food amazing and staff attentive and nothing was too much trouble!

The staff were super helpful and the food in the restaurant is top notch, not to be missed.

The entirety of the meal was spent swatting away flies.

We ate at the Pheasant down the road on a couple of evenings

The second night of our stay we went to the Castle Inn (about a mile down the road) as it was supposed to be well worth a visit - it was deadly quiet and we wished we had stayed at the hotel.

I particularly enjoyed the lemon meringue and my wife loved the rocky road, which was soft and moist.

They even phoned me three days before the booking to advise me that the A591 road would be closed and suggested an alternative route – well done.

Thankfully we phoned The Pheasant Inn just down the road and they were so exceptionally helpful we went there instead and had a few drinks in their beautiful garden before sitting down for dinner at 6 when their kitchen opened.

We took a walk a mile up the road to the Lakes Distillery which was also well worth the trip.

We enjoyed the Park like grounds around the hotel covering something like 460 acres,
We tried to walk to the lake crossing a bridge over a road

Although we found the journey there quite difficult due to a road being closed and being unfamiliar with the area, once we arrived we were warmly welcomed.

(You can walk over a footbridge over the road to the lakes edge.)

Quite hidden away which was lovely for one night as part of a road trip so felt like a proper escape!

It is clearly an old country house with well kept gardens and a path that leads down, over the road, to the edge of the lake about 1/2 - 3/4 kilometre away.

when we arrived we had to go up a long drive mind the road humps, on the right were sheep & alpacas, the alpacas you can take for a walk

- Location is fantastic, as you drive up the private road, you know you are in for a treat!

Treatment was lovely and we enjoyed the relaxation room.

When we checked in we were allocated a beautiful room

The spa facilities are fantastic with an outdoor jacuzzi and great aroma steam rooms, sauna all quite sizeable.

but we got lovely outdoor terrace areas with our rooms. ).

We booked a 2 night dinner (£50 allocation per person per night) bed and breakfast package at a  cost of £830 in a superior room.

Our lake view room was huge and beautifully appointed with every facility, right down to an extra TV over the whirlpool bath! The staff were helpful, efficient and friendly (particularly Cath and Lindsay who went above and beyond to look after us!)

So if you want to stay in rooms that looks like you are staying with your grandmother,  with  staff you truly don’t care,  this is the place for you, As I was born in the Lake District and still consider it home,, I suggest you stay at some of the other many fabulous hotels and forget about this place completely

We had a beautiful room overlooking the gardens.

The room was fantastic, with its own secret staircase to a castle like tower with 360 degree views all around the area, a table and sunbeds!

Room beautiful, spa lovely, our evening meal which we came for was abysmal!
