A surprise birthday card and unexpected small  in the room is just an example of warm genuine feeling throughout the entire hotel.

I did not asks for this type of room and the room seemed quite small.

Room was small with sloping walls due to dormer windows.

Finding a hotel for a family can be tricky in Europe where hotel rooms can be on the small side.

The rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the tram stops and can be a little noise very early in the morning.

Our room (216) was not sound proofed very well as noises heard in hallway--but good fan system (and phone app) provided needed white noise.

The only thing I could complain about is that there is next door noise.

but we were not disturbed by noise although the hotel had thoughtfully provided ear plugs just in case.

As there was construction work outside, they had left earplugs

They provided ear plugs and apologized for the construction noise from the street outside,

The only criticism is that our room was on the front of the hotel and we were awaken at five o'clock when the trams start running along the street outside.

This s not a problem unless you open the window, it then is noisy.

Could hear some noice from the tram lines in the morning in a room toward the central tram line, like a rumbling.

This hotel could have gotten to honours from my wife and I hadn't it been for two things: Even in fifth floor you coud hear the trams stopping and leaving outside the hotel.

I did ask for a room away from the street as the trams start very early and can be a bit noisy.

It could be noisy if you were there in the day when the building work was going on

Even with the windows closed, I could hear each one of these streetcars, and I even felt them as they were creating vibrations in the room.

Quite noisy with trams just outside the windows.

I never felt disturbed by the many teams that go by on Station-Square.

It was a spacious and clean room with a comfortable bed and the bathroom design had actually had some thought given to it – the shaving mirror had good lighting, which meant you could use it to make up and that’s not always the case!

My room was very small, I'm not sure if this is because it was a single room or not.

Fairly average Hotel in my opinion with average rooms a tiny bar that seats about four and a pretty miserable breakfast set up.

Only downside is the steps to the top floor as no lifts!

but our room was not that large compared to others we could see when they were being cleaned, and it was on a corridor from the lift to the main block, so we could hear people walking past our room on the creaking floor.

The “Arts “ building is without elevator & is steep 3 floors & if you book into the suite it’s another 4 th floor steep steps within the duplex.

Recommend not staying in rooms 14 & 15 because they are located close to the elevator (14) and on a stair landing (15) where there's noisy, people traffic due to the wooden floors.

Also be aware that there are no elevators.

Elevator didn't go to top floor so some steps.

Also there is no elevator if you got a room in the Art Building.

however that due to the historical nature of the building there are no lifts.

It was on the last floor (without elevator), steaming hot

however they put us on the third floor of the building (without elevator) and we had to carry up our luggage by ourselves.

Our family room was three floors up in part of the building where there is no lift.

The rooms in the "Art" part of the hotel are individually decorated, large, well equipped, each with its individual feeling and touch (caution: there is no elevator in this building,

but there are many rooms with a level route between the lift and the room.

I asked for a room in a floor served with a lift for I was travelling with my mum and they put us in a room in the middle of the stairs, not thoughtful.

The only downside was our room was located on third floor and there was no elevator.

although sometimes the absence of a lift made it a trudge up the stairs.

Since we don't travel lightly, we were delighted to find that Der Teufelhof does have an elevator.

Breakfast is not included and the restaurant is pricey.

Opening our windows on the third floor and looking out over the "Old Town" and watching the residents going about their day was worth the price itself.

however tiny and too expensive for the equipment and the surface offered.

It is so dull and largely ugly, terribly expensive and lacking in any sense of place.

but the one they had was nothing special or unusual, and they wished they had not bothered to pay the premium.

Breakfast expensive and not included in our room rate.

Also, Basel itself is outrageously expensive!

We paid 15 Francs extra per person per day.

But all aspects were overpriced even accounting for Switzerland’s high prices.

So why only four out five, rather than the max - for the price (rather than their star rating) I think that air conditioning should be available,

Having this breakfast be so hard he allowed us to stick with only two meals in super expensive Basel.

but I would rate the comportment of the restaurant staff (at both times) -- in sharp contrast with the staff at the hotel reception desk -- to have been the hotel's weak spot.

The requirement to book a table well in advance to one side this is a great place to stay and at CHF300  for a double room including breakfast not too expensive for a boutique luxury city centre hotel.

We ate at Atelier the restaurant attached to the hotel, quite expensive

Should be trained before letting them loose with the paying public, as the meals there are very expensive.

This hotel had everything:  two restaurants, a wine cellar, a brewery, an excellent breakfast, a cozy, clean room.

The hotel is a beautiful bourgeois 19th century building located in the old town of Basel, in a very quiet area with lots of fun boutiques and interesting restaurants - with the city centre nearby and the tram right in front of the house - ideal !! Hot spell when we stayed there and as the hotel doesn't have air conditioning we had to open our windows ( the room was so small that the windows always have to opened)

On the down side the Easy rooms are very small, and hot as someone else said (and this was late September so must have been frying in summer), and who thought it's a good idea to have wooden floors in rooms and, particularly, corridors?

I made the reservations in advance, which I suggest doing, to save on rates and secure your room in this very small hotel.

Unfortunately we were not aware of Swiss hotel standards so we chose a room in the non boutique part,  room was small

there were 5 of us staying in 3 rooms and all of our rooms were really clean and stocked with bottled water and a tea/coffee making machine.

Rooms were clean, extra pillows on request.

The rooms are clean and tidy, there is complimentary fruit in the hall, at night there is live piano music, and the location cannot be beat.

Clean rooms with triple glass windows make staying close to the train station very enjoyable.

Delightful Hotel 5 mins walk from Basel SBB - extremely comfortable and clean rooms - friendly helpful staff - and if you are travelling on business the Bahnhofplatz is at the front door for easy access to trams and buses all over the city - they even gave me a free travelcard for the duration of my stay - all mod cobs 👍👍

If you see my invoices attached below, only 20CHF was applied for the whole duration.

We were subsequently charged again for the room on the credit card.

Charging a quite high price to enter the wellness is also rather odd, having Aquabasilea in the same building and also considering the hotel is in the middle of nowhere.

however I was told a repeat will be charged - a first in any Marriott.

Fortunately you also get a free Basel card so can use public transport for free, you have to ask for it though.

Like other reviewers, I had a mysterious 24 Euro charge added to my account for no reason (I did not dine or buy anything from the shop), and I discovered the charge after I left the property.

But after checking out and paying your bill you can get surprise with another heavy charge on your card doubling the rate you agreed to.

but they also charged my credit card for the amount of the room PLUS the deposit.

They apologized and dry-cleaned it at no charge, so no harm no foul. The in-room safe was also broken

There is no do not disturb card or a card to indicate they should make up the room.

It would have been nice to know that from the start - instead of being told that they have to charge because they don't have an exec. lounge.

When you arrive, even with a voucher from travel agency they request you your personal credit card.

The charge for phone calls from the room was 3.5 SF per minute which was incredibly expensive.

Note that the restaurant definitely charges Swiss prices.

Secondly, the taxi driver charged me a flat fee of 50 CHF, without using the meter, stating that it is standard fare from the hotel to Basel downtown.

Unlike another reviewer mentioned, there is a possibility for room servive (at 5CHF extra charge)

The car park is about 35 chf for 24 hours - charged by the hour.

Thirdly, I was only told by Sarah that my postcards would be sent complimentary as I asked how much it would cost, she mentioned it would be complimentary, yet I received a separate invoice for the postcards.

Expensive to get in and non swimmers can’t watch so my wife ended up sitting in hotel bar.

For this price, the service and the rooms are an absolute insult.

As stated clearly in the reservation, my two nights cost 417 CHF (including the city tax).

However it still was quite expensive for the experience.

Or at least far cheaper
The hotel in general is rather anonimous.

Food was mediocre and very very costly (18 CHF/ $18 for a margerita pizza and 26 CHF/ $27 for a cheeseburger).

The taxis are VERY expensive in Switzerland.

but the food and drink can get expensive (but a lot of Switzerland is).

but everything in Switzerland is pricey!!!

Tourists wanting to save a few francs from city-center expensive properties should not be put off from staying at the Courtyard in spite of the distance to the beautiful old town.

The Aquabasilea is not included in your room rate, and, frankly, not worthwhile, even with the reduced rate - at least not for my 15 year old and I.
