The location is convenient to Las Ramblas and within walking distance to many of the sightseeing attractions such as Gaudi’s Casa Batllo, Gaudi’s Museum next to the old Cathedral, La Pedrera and the Medieval Roman section.

I highly recommend the obvious. .Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batllo (very cool!)

The bar on premises is closed on Sunday's and Monday's which is a bit of a bummer

Travelers tip 2: when planning your activities in Barcelona, keep in mind that many places are closed on Sunday.

The elevators, halls and rooms feel closed.

We had the drapes closed for privacy most of the time so the room had a cave-like feel to it.

but be aware that the restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday.

The area is then closed for an hour, allowing the staff to remove breakfast and ready the area for the rest of the day.

We had the "city suite," and it was huge when the sofa bed was closed.

We didn't make use of the downstairs area as it was closed during our stay -

At 11:30, breakfast closed and an extensive choice of snacks, salad, soup, and drinks were available - all at no extra cost.

but once the doors to the balconies were closed, you could not hear a thing.

Because it was a holiday, many sites and restaurants were closed.

The kids did not like the fact that the sliding door separating the bathroom and bedroom did not close fully due to the design of the hanging rail around the wall which meant the door had no lock and a very small gap was left when closed.

however our adapter kept falling out when we closed the safe door.

Unfortunately, the restaurant next door was closed 2 of the 3 nights I was there and  I did not have a reservation for the first night.

The bedroom was dead quiet and so dark that it became too easy to sleep too long.

A bit concerned because the photos showed what appeared to be a dark (red walls) & smallish room.

I would recommend an upper floor as the 1st floor is a bit dark (and I was on the 'city view' side) and noisy if you have your windows open.

Everything was dark red and black not very inviting in my own personal view.

The only thing to note about the room is that it’s a bit dark and faces the street.

If I had one nit-pick it's that the room was rather dark, and there was an area of the room that wasn't lit at all.

My husband was able to sit up and watch tv while I went off to sleep in a dark room.

but to get to hotel you had to walk about 3 blocks  down a very dark narrow street/alley.

You can make the room as bright or dark as you want with the roll down blinds.

Perhaps the most important is that there is no clock that can be read in the dark so it is impossible to know the time with the shades drawn unless you turn on your cell phone.

but very dark due to red and black decor and lack of enough natural light.

Lighting could have been better as the bedroom was a little dark.

Rooms in the A part comprise 2 parts: a bedroom with bath facing the vertical gardens (very quiet,but a bit on the dark side) and across the floor a small living area with a hammock (this side faces a small road well frequented also in the night).

At first the bedroom feels a bit dark as there are no windows,

although this view and red colour of bedroom make this place rather dark.

The main reason I could not give it 5 stars was because the room was so dark with harsh lighting and it got very little natural daylight which kind of spoilt the experience.

A unique hotel to host us where we actually experienced generosity and sincere hospitality.

The front desk staff was both helpful and gracious.

First of all the staff are super friendly and welcoming and the hotel is super calm and quiet.

The staff are all excellent and always able to assist with any request.

It is in walking distance to Casa Batllo and La Pedrera.

Two young women at reception welcomed us warmly, which made us feel extra happy finally being in Barcelona (I am sorry I did not know their names).

Staff was quite courteous and efficient..

The staff from the front deck, bar, and breakfast were all very friendly and attentive.

Location  was fantastic and service by the staff very attentive.

The reception team were a delight to deal with and could not have been more helpful.

We found the staff to be absolutely wonderful.

The hotel and its rooms are of high quality and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

People at the front desk was so helpful with everything we needed and we felt very welcoming.

And in the bathroom needs to wait 5min+ for hot water.

Others have remarked on the (lack of) hot water in the bedrooms.

but if you are a bit late they'll be gone and not refilled.As well as coffee but there are plenty teas and hot water.

What used to be a variable tropical shower has a clogged head so the water is more like a wet weekend.

However, the walls are extremely thin that you can hear people walking past at all hours of the day, you can hear water flowing through pipes when other rooms flush the toilet/ shower, and you can hear people in the lifts as they are approaching your floor.

though again the water was cold and not pleasant.

Additionally water was only provided in room for 1 person, the shower system needed a card to explain its operation, rooms were not cleaned automatically & the lift system is complete chaos for residents.

Besides the noise, there’s no hot water - just briefly in the morning, then it’s off all day and into the night.

but no way were we going to get hot water for a shower despite following the instructions .

The only problem was on the last morning there was a lack of hot water.

Let the shower run in the morning for AT LEAST five minutes, probably longer, to get properly hot water,

Hot water is a problem, and that just wasn’t my experience alone, even allowing for the curious plumbing fittings.

The only issues we had was that it took several minutes for the hot water to run , reception staff told us that it was recent issue that was being fixed and the failure to access the BBC news channel on the TV .

A ref and hot water thermos was supplied.

The Cons:  The bathroom has a rainfall shower that is too close to the curved-up end of the bathtub; hot water can take more than five minutes to appear even will all taps open; the bathroom heater gets hot enough to cause burns and is not protected; no hair conditioner; poor quality bathroom amenities; the room lighting is clever

It was also perfectly located for us in the Exiemple area of town, a pleasant and safe area close to some fabulous shops and Gaudi's Casa Batllo house and other architectural attractions.

Recommended places to visit are Parc Guell (monument park and Gaudi's house), Casa Batllo, Montjuic and the cable car, Casa Musica, the Palau Nacional and Font Magica, a boat trip around the harbour and. .

Excellent location nearby Urgell metro station and "AeroBus" bus stop, within walking distance (2 km) of tourist attractions like Font Magica de Montjuïc, La Rambla and Gaudi's Casa Batllo. The breakfast is a bit expensive compared to the breakfast options in the local pubs and pastry shops,

Spot on location, in walking distance of most things including La Rambla, Barri Gothic, Casa Batllo, the list goes on!

Could also walk to some of Gaudi’s works, like Casa Batllo and La Pedrera.

The room was generally dark even the corridor despite having on all the lights On room.

But then you go to use the bathroom and toilet - it's very dark and suddenly the funky lighting doesn't work in your favour.

and the light of room was so dark and opened window was so narrow.

The hotel theme is modern, albeit a bit dark in places.

but light still comes through and around these so if (like me) you like a completely dark room you will notice this.

buttons, hot/warm lighting, and combinations (if you arrive tired and it’s too frustrating, remove the key card and it goes dark).

but lighting made the halls and room quite dark.

Decor was dark and corridors were unsettling as they are so dark.

Interior deco is a little dark, like a night club.

although I did find the lighting a little dark in the room.

My only complaints are the shower has a small glass partition that gets water all over the floor and the room can be a bit dark.

We booked a standard double room and it was a bit dark as the hotel is a high-rise building and there is not much natural light

The only let down was how dark the rooms were and sometimes the room smelt unpleasant.

Decor is minimalist and contemporary in neutral, dark colors.

All the reception staff were very helpful and knowledgeable , they really made the stay enjoyable….

When we arrived we were greeted by an extremely helpful member of staff whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch.

On one hand, the reception staff did not seem genuinely concerned about customer needs, even when suitable rooms were available.

Staff were great, both at the front desk (Roberto was exceptionally helpful) and in the breakfast area.

The only thing to complain about is that you can not turn off the lights themselves in the window which are switched on and off automatically.

The very cool miniblinds in the windows don't work--permanently.

Only things that would make this hotel the best would be to put blinds or a curtain on the shower glass wall, as in the bedroom you can see straight into the shower, as there is no privacy which wasn’t the best.

Also noted in other reviews, it was a bit irritating not being able to amend the blinds between the window panes.

The hotel is located between Casa Mila and Casa Batllo, two popular attractions.

Equal distance to Casa Batllo and La Pedrera in Gaudi's city with an extremely friendly staff serving.

Walking distance to La Perdera, Casa Batllo, Placa de Catalunya, metro stops, and many restaurants.

Not to far from the Sagrada Familia, La Pedrera , Casa Batllo and many others.

On the Paseo de Gracia, diametrically across from Casa Batllo!

There are also attractions just walking distance from the hotel - Gaudi's Casa Batllo and La Pedrera.

Our room, #823, was quiet with a lovely view of Paseo de Gracia and Casa Batllo.

The best hotel in Barcelona, located in the most amazing and beautiful area Paseo de Gràcia, which contains lots of shops and restaurants and also the most famous 2 monuments in the world "The Pedrera-Casa Milia" and the other Gaudi's masterpiece "Casa Batllo".

Impressed with the location of the Majestic which is within circa 20 minutes of Sagrade Familia and La Ramble,  with Casa Batllo within a few hundred yards.

Also a minute walk (literally) to La Pedrera and Casa Batllo.

Didn't even get a followup call or an apology

Taking a shower and using a toilet in the dark with a phone flashlight was not fun during our stay.

The table edges were chipped, 2 lights burned out in the bathroom, a large chip missing in the bath tile, in need of woodwork paint, a door not closing on the closet, a curtain hook ripped and missing, and a phone with a message light that stayed on all three days of the stay.

Note it is easier to call cabs than use Uber app, so have Euro on hand in 1,2, and 5 dollar denominations so you can pay and tip a little.

I can imagine they could hear me talking on calls.

Breakfast was included with our stay- they accidentally charged us - it took 5 international phone calls to rectify.

We’d expect a management call at least .

There really isn't a pool there, even if they call it one, as it's just a small square crowded by all the people having drinks.

And provide assistance to customers at any time through the phone or reception.

The air conditioning was not cooling the room at this point I didn’t want to call anybody didn’t get maintenance to check the AC I had just given up.

No question goes unanswered and no request seems impossible.

Many people also could not check in until after 3pm

My advice— call ahead if you are getting in before 3pm, and definitely stay at the Mandarin Oriental.

Be sure to have an International phone plan because you will need your phone for everything.

after all the time spent calling to amex and dealing with the " manager" who was obviously not the manager, at least you can expecto to get an apology or something maybe insignificant to the hotel to fake they care which they did not of course.

I had specifically requested a baby crib at reservation and they confirmed it on the phone and of course it wasn’t set up and I had to nag about it and follow up.

We talked with someone via phone and she never called us back.

I wait 5 days to post incase I received a call

it took them hoalf a day and cost me USD150 for international roaming before they had put down the unique serial number of my iphone and then they switched it on somehow>

Drinks at bar are very pricey (19 euros for a pina colada).

A 3x3 size lasagna costing about $20 is way overpriced in the first place.

Paid $600 a night through Silverseas and unloaded the bus filled with 50 pieces of luggage with no assistance from hotel staff at 65 years old with 75 year old woman!

I felt we did not get the deluxe room we paid for and should of experienced.

For what the company paid for me to stay I was borderline annoyed.

When we brought this misunderstanding to the manager and explained that we would never have given as many items had it been per unit rather than per category of item, he simply remarked "This is a 5 star hotel and these are the prices".

The price you have to pay and what you get is just too much.

though I have to say that if it were not included in our rate, EUR39 would be rather steep for the kind of spread offered.

Overall for the price, a disappointing stay

Try to avoid airport transfer as overpriced.

but then we changed rooms and the second night was cold, a draft was coming from the windows which was a disappointment with the amount you are paying each night, also the minibar wasn’t included which again what you are paying a night we expected it to be free of charge even if it was water or crisps and then for the more expensive things then a price list starts then that would have made more sense.

I was denied concierge service to hold my luggage, inspite of offering to pay for the same.

We chose the Majestic over the better known high end hotels due to the size of the room for the price.

It’s a very expensive hotel in good location.

It is in a beautiful part of Barcelona and the staff are all attentive and make you feel very comfortable.

In the end, the Majestic is our favorite place to stay in Barcelona with its combination of a beautiful property, warm and gracious staff and super convenient location.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our 5-day stay.

Shame as otherwise the staff and hotel itself are great.

Friendly and efficient check in, good rooms, great bathrooms, good WiFi, AC perfect, great breakfast, roof top bar and a fabulous location in Barcelona.
