The hotel is in a fabulous location for restaurants and attractions.

Service is 5 stars, hotel is 4.5 stars, rooftop bar 5 stars, location 6 stars.

It is well located across from the harbour, it is clean, has lovely and large rooms, had a king size comfortable bed with good pillows and nice linens, and we fully recommend it.

The hotel is in a lovely position near to Port Vell and there are many good restaurants nearby.

The location is fine with a terrific roof top bar overlooking the harbor.

The hotel is in a well maintained old heritage building, in a perfect location between the gothic quarter and the water front/beaches.

The location of this hotel is great - walking distance to beach, on the edge of the Gothic district, close to Picasso museum, Barcelona cathedral, walking distance to La Sagrada (longer walk),  close to Metro trains and tons of shopping,  bars and restaurants.

The hotel staff were excellent, the hotel food was excellent, the hotel itself was excellent and very nice and clean, the hotel rooftop bar was an excellent touch with a great view.

We also visited the rooftop bar / restaurants a few times, the area is perfectly maintained and with two small pools and a beautiful view of the harbour and sea.

From the staff answering questions and accommodating our requests prior to us arriving to our arrival and every day after,  The entire staff from the front desk, at breakfast, at the rooftop bar all were accommodating.

The breakfast was very good — as was our pre-dinner drink on rooftop each evening.

The room was clean, bigger than expected, there was champagne waiting for us.

The rooms are comfortable and well appointed.

The Premium room was spacious and was ideal for us .

This place feels quite new from the lobby to the room.

Family room was very spacious- 2 proper beds for the children.

Everyone from the front desk to the restaurant to the people who cleaned the rooms were extremely polite and accommodating.

However the pools are hilariously small and any room located near the service elevator is probably pretty noisy in the morning.

But our room was small, with no view, the window overlooked an alley and had a curtain pulled shut for privacy, which made the whole room dark.

Only disappointment, was the room was a little small for the price paid - not like those pictures.

The hotel is small and only has 30 rooms.

The hotel offered a room for three adults and a fair rate (though the room was a bit small and had limited drawer/closet space.

Our room was very small and felt congested.

If you get a high room and a small tree you are set!!

It is within 10 minute walk to Las Ramblas and also the beach.The staff in the hotel were excellent and provided a glass of wine while they checked if my room was ready for me.My room was checked and ready within 10 minutes.Rooms very spacious and very clean.All staff were very friendly and helpful.The hotel has a Sun Terrace on the roof with a small splash pool.They also provide fresh towels for your use on the Sun Terrace.

Nighttime it has a clubby feel - daytime they bring out the loungers and the 'splash/plunge pool' is a welcome relief from the midday sun.

There is music late at night on the roof and noise in the street,

but we were on the first floor, which was a bit noisy from street and sidewalk traffic.

Our room was very nice even facing the busy road and could hear noise,

The only negative would be that the front rooms facing the street can be noisy, however I knew this would be the case,

However the double glazing blocked completely all sound from the street.

The only thing I would change is to stay on a higher floor next time (I was on the 2nd floor), as the noise from the street below me carried into my room when trying to sleep my last night.

though we overlooked a sometimes busy street we barely heard any street noise with the dual windows.

Although we were warned that night noise is high in Barcelona we would have wished that our room would have been more protected from street noise which never seemed to stop

We were on the second floor facing the street so it got a little noisy at times.

but the glazing meant that we couldn't hear the noise from the road at all.

If you put two suitcases on the ground then you don't have much space to walk at all. But my biggest issue was the noise from the street (Barcelona is loud everywhere!)

Lower floors I expect suffer from some street noise later as the bars stay open until the early hours

The location for us was perfect.

Ask for a sea view room as the rooms on street can be quite noisy.

.. forward facing rooms get some road noise and unless you are on the top floor, the trees obscure the views of the marina.

Nice balcony/sitting area just outside our door, overlooking the lobby and out at the moored boats.

The roof terrace/pool and bar area had great views over the marina definitely worth a visit.

Loved the hotel, clean, friendly helpful staff and amazing view over the harbour.

Our waterfront facing room had double pane windows so very quiet at night, even with fun loving groups walking by at all hours.

I picked the H1898 because it's the oldest hotel in town and it's located on the La Rambla in the heart of the Gothic Quarter.

Location out of this world on the busy and lively streets of la rambla.

Our honeymoon haven at Hotel 1898 was nestled in the heart of Barcelona, just steps away from the vibrant La Rambla.

We had a nice room at the back with a small balcony overlooking a small square which was better than overlooking La Rambla with its almost never ceasing stream of tourists.

It's conveniently located just around the corner from La Rambla, a heavy tourist-focused part of this beautiful city.

The hotel is really well located on La Rambla.

The one plus was the location - right on La Rambla.

Great location, front door just off La Rambla, staff friendly and helpful, everything within walking distance, room was comfortable, a very nice and pleasant hotel.

We very much enjoyed the private terrace pool overlooking La Rambla.

Our stay at this hotel was fantastic from start to finish, from the birthday wishes by and complimentary drinks on arrival, to the perfect roof top pool to escape the hustle and bustle of La Rambla.

The location is perfect, next to La Rambla, and most of the tourist interests.

Comfortable beds, excellent service and amenities, lovely rooftop pool and bar for amazing sunset viewing.

The rooftop bar is amazing and a wonderful way to swim, relax, have a meal, whilst admiring the views of Barcelona.

The superior rooms are very large, the classic double can be hit and miss, the roof top pool is good, the breakfast has a good selection and the woman on the front desk there is super friendly

The rooftop pool is lovely and we could find seating quite quickly on most occasions.

While the location is great, the hotel itself is stylish and clean, the food experience at the rooftop bar ruined the whole experience (so if you do not plan to eat there this might not be a problem)
So this is just a personal view and you could be really happy in this hotel

The hotel itself is beautiful - the rooms were lovely, and we really enjoyed the rooftop bar and pool, as well as the downstairs spa.

The hotel lobby and spa are absolutely wonderful and by far the highlights here.

Wife used the spa and she had an amazing experience.

The Stuff invited us to a special in the spa with champagne.

The spa is unbelievable, the hotel manager brought us a mimosa.

Also the steam area in the spa was closed, so the spa area consisted of the very nice (but at bit too cold) pool and a sauna.

With the added delights of a complimentary bottle of champagne, a birthday celebration, and a splendid spa, this hotel became the perfect backdrop for our romantic getaway.

They have introduced a booking system when using the spa which worked really well.

I also highly recommend their spa and the indoor pool which are an absolute enjoyment to relax tired feet.

And we didn’t even use the spa or swimming pool, which provided an amazing panoramic view of the city and beyond to the surrounding mountains.

We loved the facilities; spa; pool; room was really spacious & comfie etc & great location.

You have to try the spa in the basement, very nice and relaxing.

The Spa pool has various settings so we jacuzzi’d and had water spout massages to our hearts content!

Breakfast is unbelievable, the spa is amazing, and there aren't enough words in a dictionary to tell you how much we love this place.

And in the bathroom needs to wait 5min+ for hot water.

Others have remarked on the (lack of) hot water in the bedrooms.

but if you are a bit late they'll be gone and not refilled.As well as coffee but there are plenty teas and hot water.

What used to be a variable tropical shower has a clogged head so the water is more like a wet weekend.

However, the walls are extremely thin that you can hear people walking past at all hours of the day, you can hear water flowing through pipes when other rooms flush the toilet/ shower, and you can hear people in the lifts as they are approaching your floor.

though again the water was cold and not pleasant.

Additionally water was only provided in room for 1 person, the shower system needed a card to explain its operation, rooms were not cleaned automatically & the lift system is complete chaos for residents.

Besides the noise, there’s no hot water - just briefly in the morning, then it’s off all day and into the night.

but no way were we going to get hot water for a shower despite following the instructions .

The only problem was on the last morning there was a lack of hot water.

Let the shower run in the morning for AT LEAST five minutes, probably longer, to get properly hot water,

Hot water is a problem, and that just wasn’t my experience alone, even allowing for the curious plumbing fittings.

The only issues we had was that it took several minutes for the hot water to run , reception staff told us that it was recent issue that was being fixed and the failure to access the BBC news channel on the TV .

A ref and hot water thermos was supplied.

The Cons:  The bathroom has a rainfall shower that is too close to the curved-up end of the bathtub; hot water can take more than five minutes to appear even will all taps open; the bathroom heater gets hot enough to cause burns and is not protected; no hair conditioner; poor quality bathroom amenities; the room lighting is clever
