The room was very small, far too warm and where lacking real air conditioning could not be made comfortable.

Only issue in room was heating as too hot

After asking repeatedly at the front desk for relief, they finally admitted that they could not set the thermostat cooler.

Rooms are nice, just AC is sometimes tricky and loud, so it's better to switch it off during the night if you have light sleep.

The drawback is the hotel rooms are dated, and the air con is not the most effective.

We did have one issue with water leaking from the air con unit

However, the air conditioning was non existent.

Ironically it might be cooler here when it’s hotter, if you see what I mean as in the summer the aircon would be available.

No bar and non-functioning air-con bring this to three stars from four.

The heating worked only periodically: it's not funny in october.

We realize Europeans do not use as much a/c as Americans

- Finally I'm not a big fan of the whole 'diarrhea-colored fake wood with fake gold-plated ornaments' concept that supposedly gives Best Western its charm,

Unfortunately there was a slightly offensive smell that hung about the room during our stay which disappeared after the aircon had been on for a few minutes.

Staff were extremely helpful and courteous, one downside is the poor air conditioning in the rooms, units are seemingly too small for the rooms.

Reception was warm and friendly the room was excellent and the breakfast too was great!!

Breakfast was like feeding time at a zoo..everything spread over two rooms was like hunter/gathering had returned.

Continental breakfast had a good selection of fruit cheese and meats.

The breakfast was the best I have had that was included with the room, with so many options, even with me being gluten-intolerant and needing protein and low carbs.

There was a great choice of fresh food, cereal, breads, cake for breakfast along with good coffees.

The breakfast is great and has options for people needing gluten free and dairy free food and it is well located so that you can arrive from the train station and drop you bags to visit lovely Bergamo.

The hotel is of high quality: good position near the city center, room very clean, kindliness of personnel, high quality breakfast for food and service as well.

The rooms are of an acceptable standard for European Cities and provided value for money (156EUR / night incl breakfast).

Staff are excellent, breakfast phenomenal and the hotel is immaculate.

For many years, I stay at the NH hotel when I'm in Bergamo, enjoying the convenient location, the spacious rooms, and the very good breakfast.

I disliked the room because was small and doesn't look as beautiful as the picture.

Lovely bathroom with piped sound from the tv in the bedroom.

I found it difficult to adjust the water temperature, couldn't locate the drain lever and there was water around my ankles, and the soap dispenser didn't work properly.

The water temperature was not consistent and fluctuated significantly 2 seconds from hot to cold, making it impossible to have a comfortable shower.

Apart from that the shower/bath did not drain so ended up showering in 10 inches of water!

There was  water heater and complimentary tea/coffee sachet in the room for use.

Unfortunately this was one of the most disappointing upgrades we had as we were given a room with serious water issues in the bathroom.

Walls were patched up and had visable water damage.

If I remember it correctly, they don't provide free bottled mineral water in the room, so in case you need some, you can always use the auto selling machines just across the street!

I was also disappointed that our room had apparently suffered some kind of water damage and the repairs were pretty shoddy.

The en-suite bathroom was tiled in an unfortunate mottled grey-brown that gave the impression of water damage

A very reluctant receptionist agreed to give us a jug of hot water to make a hot drink

Little bit disappointing was a water pressure in the bath - very low.

Water pressure in the bathroom was excellent, only downside was they only have one of those half shower doors that seem popular in Europe for some reason.

though about the water pressure in the room, a shower took ages!

The water pressure was really bad and it really took away from the enjoyment of the room.

although hot food had run out by 9am and hot water for tea/coffee provided was cold.

Breakfast staff were equally brilliant, a good selection of 1st class buffet breakfast etc.

Good cold breakfast and room service options.

We had no issues with finding a table at breakfast.

but very good staff who constantly kept clearing tables and restocking items on the buffet.

Breakfast had a wonderful display of food, lots of healthy options and breads of all sorts.

Round and about there are good restaurants and cafes for breakfast and it is away from the tourist hubbub in the old part of town on top of the hill.

Pleasant staff, great breakfast, a stone's throw from the station and an easy walk to all the sights.

Breakfast was wholesome with lots of choice.

The hotel itself is very nice and l would’ve given it a higher rating if it wasn’t for the dreaded breakfast service!

The hotel is very quiet: The breakfast is very elaborate and of very good quality.

The breakfast is far from good as well and they have 20 tables for 100 rooms so basically eat standing in the nearby hallway.

I would choose it again if breakfast was at least adequate.

The hotel has a decent choice of breakfast.

The breakfast are is unwelcoming and the look of the buffet food available was enough to make me walk away and find an alternative restaurant, despite already paying for breakfast.

We had the worst nights sleep of our lives on extremely hard beds, we requested extra pillows from Reception and were delivered two stained pillows (there were quite a few dark brown patches) that we then had to put into the pillowcases.

but this is only my personal opinion,  not enough lighting for working or reading after dark.

The rooms might need a little updating as the blue walls leave the rooms a little dark.

We had room 104 on the first floor and it was rather dark (walls are painted dark blue).

however the room we had was seemed to be very dark and painted a very dark blue.

The bathroom was very dark and outdated also.

Even with every single lamp switched on,  the room was still far too dark and dingy.

however, was small and dark, made so by the one small window, the darkish blue paint, and the absence of any effective lighting.

but the room had no soul and was quite dark, despite being on the last floor.

We had a standard room, rather small, very dark blue painted walls, which made the room look dark and not welcoming.

Besides that, the rooms are dark  and awfully designed.

The uninspired dark colored rooms and the overall dated feel doesn't make the stay a particularly cheerful experience,

My room - 416, had very small windows and therefore it was dark, made more so by the all blue walls.

On the subject of lights I found some areas of the room were too dark and I couldn't, for instance, read the instructions on using the safe because there wasn't enough light.

Rooms are in poor condition - old and tired and needs a complete renovation.

the reception service was very poor , the receptionist does not seem able to accomplish her duty in line with the style of Accor.

Privilege room was very poor and not worth any extra.

however the coffee was quite poor in terms of quality.

Food - poor buffet choice very standard and breakfast - not great.

Our stay was unfortunately spoilt by poor staff and what can only be assumed as 'penny pinching' by Mercure.

The fixtures lighting were poor and we could not use the window for a little bit of natural light because it faced a back-view terrace that we had to share with another 3 rooms.

but the poor lighting could be hiding a multitude of sins.

but the carpet in the hallway leading from the lifts (there are 2) was in pretty poor condition and the walls were scuffed.

One poor man came down dead on the time breakfast finished .. And was grabbing food before it disappeared . Wrong.

The lighting is extremely poor, no ceiling lights just bedside lamps.

The breakfast was pretty poor, dry bread, warm milk, an inadequate selection, no fresh fruit.

Carpets are worn and stained, walls falling apart etc.

In both rooms, as well as the hallways, wear is very visible on the walls, carpets, and door frames.

but all we had was a brick wall and roof tile view.

The purple color on the walls is not the best option, the renovation will definitely comes handy.

The second thing was not really high standard of cleaning the carpet was simply dirty and there were cracks on the walls all around.

but showing signs of severe wear and tear, marked wall and carpets suffering from a lack of tlc.

The only thing we don’t like, is the blue colored walls and ceilings. everething is just too much blue :)

The walls were painted a cringing "bleu marin" 80's style with multiple patches "fixed" in a slightly different nuance.

It's obvious that the hotel needs some working ( chipped wall paint, old curtains.

Bathrooms have silver paint from mid way up the wall to the roof.

but on the other floors the walls are completely scratched by the housekeeping carts and room's doors are damaged.

Rooms are awful we were in a upgraded room and as in previous reviews the walls and ceilings were blue, bathrooms are painted silver and look like a tin can.

The blue colour of the walls makes it a bit dim inside.

The shower cabin didn't completely close and there were a few scratches/black stripes on one of the walls, which I assume were left by someone who had previously stayed in the room.

A bit crowded and noicy breakfast.

The breakfast waiting staff are so professional and eager to please.

Nice room with a pretty view of the old town, wonderful breakfast with many options, great location right at the base of Citta Alta.

Ambience, spotless cleanliness, lush breakfast which includes a separate section of gluten-free food and the location next to Bergamo Alta and a short walk to the bus and train station together with bus-stops in front of the hotel.

Comfortable bed and good shower ( over the bath) excellent self serve breakfast.

Air condition kept the heat out and the beds were comfortable, really tasty breakfast and helpful staff.

Breakfast was like a wedding brunch with attentive staff serving hot foods and replenishing stations.

The breakfast was perfect with a large selection of food.

The room could be bigger, the bathroom needs renovation

Room 605 needs desperately a renovation if you don't wanne be in the nineties.

A lot of the rooms have been updated we were obviously unlucky and got an old room.

On the other hand this hotel, could do with some renovation in the rooms.

but now - everything required renovation.

The hotel itself is a little outdated; you need to return keys to reception when you leave, you know, those keys with heavy piece attached to key ring.

The hotel has seen its better days and should benefit from an renovation / update.

We stayed at not renovated room (standard one).

The total room could use a total overhaul.

The good staff cannot make up for the fact they should finish remodeling all the roooms so I will not be returning to this hotel again.

Rooms a bit small (we had a superior room - I cannot imagine how standard rooms would be).

The "gym" (hidden on the second floor with poor signage) was a disappointment, comprising a tiny room with a broken exercise bike, a treadmill and one weights machine.

The rooms have been some what small in size, have been furnished with bare necessities and bathroom too has basic amenities.

but the hotel was overpriced with very small rooms.

My room was small and did not look like anything on the website.

Stayed for one night,  the room was small as  mentioned in other reviews and the soundproofing between rooms was terrible, you could hear everything from adjoining rooms.

A tiny room at the back of the hotel, bathroom with just a shower which wasnt the cleanest i'd ever seen, metal shutters on the window which when we managed to open found we were looking straight into someones flat, i dread to think what the bog standard rooms were like.

although the room we had was quite small and a little old fashioned (air conditioning required a little encouragement to work !).

That said, behind the 70's style glitz, woodwork and backlit adverts for the restaurant, it was actually quite comfortable and well equipped with a marvellous rooftop restaurant/bar. Our room were a little small and old-fashioned

A fish that stinks at the tail stinks at the head, and this head is poisonous.

The first room we got smelled so much smoke that we had to change.

Definitely never ever coming back and would not recommend this smelly place to anyone.

A lot of other reviewers have mentioned the damp smell.

Plus you are feeling very strong uninhabitable dump smell starting from the entrance and more strong in rooms.

Rooms are

I was located on the 7th floor and unfortunately I could smell cigarette smoke as soon as I got out of the lift.
