We assumed because there was a fan in the room, there is no air conditioning.

The bad news: The really disappointing part of our stay is the fact the kitchen exhaust vent is located nearly right under room #104.

Lucked out with the temperature, as there is no AC.

One of the reasons is that no one should expect A/C anywhere else in Hallstatt.

We stayed in June the temperatures were high 36,37 or 38 degrees, there is no air conditioning.

The ONLY negative with this hotel is no AC.

The only downside for me is that the hotel does not have airconditioning in their rooms.

The second reason is that the rooms are quite stuffy and there was no aircon.

No air conditioning, so the hot July & August months are not ideal times to stay.

I am not a big fan of seafood so I opted for the Chicken Schnitzel deep fried in

but stopped by in the afternoon and made a reservation for dinner at 7 PM on the lakeside terrace, and this was handled promptly and in a friendly manner by the young hostess.

but we additionally found the restrooms adjacent to the dining area were filthy and unkempt.

There was really no trash dumping noise or smell this time.

Paint smell was strong in the room, no surprise given the extensive construction work throughout the floor.

Even from inside the room assigned to us, we could clearly smell paint and its solvents.

Moreover, we had asked for a vienna schnitzel from beef whereas the schnitzel smelt pork.

Only negative is that people can smoke there, yikes, bad for breathing conditions.

but there was nowhere to go that was no smoking, so we left.The only other thing that disappointed us was that when we checked out and wanted to pay by card, we were told that we had to pay in Australian Dollars!

Full of Chinese (smoking in the restaurant) and overpriced food with bad quality.

Our bathroom had a small hole in the wall that seemed to be the cause of constant humidity and an unpleasant smell.

but the balconies were not and unfortunately they all abut each other so the smoke wafts right into the room.

Add on top the fact that room 103 smells like the kitchen (I've now read others commented on this).

I've read some users' comments saying that a few restaurant staffs were not good , and there was one staff who is a little bluff , not nasty.

Also, the area just past the bar, where you would take your drinks, appears to allow smoking, so avoid if that bothers you.

The only small negatives was the balcony was never cleaned of cigarette

although we were lucky that at the time there were no smokers present!

The bathrooms are tiny and a have hit of mildew smell,

The smell is all over every common area of the hotel.

We avoided this area because of the smoke, if you are a smoker it will not be a problem.

The only thing marring our beautiful stay was a foul, sewer type smell that pervaded our bathroom and thus our room .

Besides that the staff on reception were very helpful & knowledgable & we slept well while there.

All the staff were focusing on that and were not bothered about the diners.

but I would recommend making reservations in advance as the place filled up and some folks had to be turned away.

The main thing for us was that the service at the reception.

but this was bluntly declined by the staff.

We walked over to Heritage House Hotel who did have employees manning the desk and the manager called the shuttle for us which saved our evening plans in Venice.

The waterfront restaurant is very nice and the staffs are good .

They e-mailed me back to thank me for a gorgeous card and said I'd be warmly welcomed if I decide to visit Hallstatt again.

Reservations for the excellent hotel restaurant recommended,  to get the best tables on the water, and they kindly give preference to hotel guests.

The hotel staff made sure that our stay was perfect.

I love the service - they were really kind and nice to me.

We had lunch there, it was the perfect spot on the lake, the service was exceptional, with all the employees paying attention to every gesture and taking care of every need.

And Marlene at reception was so helpful to answer all my questions even before we booked the hotel that we felt very welcome here.

Staff is super helpful, rooms are very stylish and breakfast is great!

but the service is not at par with the price we paid.

The only somewhat disappointing part (considering the price) was the food (we booked half board) and the choice of the breakfast, hence only four points.

Things to improve: 1. bottled water was very expensive.

but given the amount we paid, we expected better service.

While it gets crowded with guest from the hotel at times the prices keep many away so that you can enjoy a meal without someone snapping a photo next to you

even though I had paid extra for one with a view, the resulting great difficulty I had to undergo to get to the correct room.

Very disappointed with this expensive, rather ordinary hotel after being given a ground-floor, end-of-the-corridor,  room and being told, 'first come first served'.

Ok, Menue is rather small , portions and quality are reasonable 
View on the lake is good if not disturbed by people with their selfie sticks , price level like a expected in those kind of tourist attractions

but for 15€ it is definitely not worth the price as I found the food choices very limited.

however I was a bit disappointed we did not have a balcony like some of the other rooms (maybe you need to pay a bit more for these?).

The staff was beyond kind and professional.

Everything in the breakfast is delicious, and the staff are diligent in refilling it.

We also had dinner one night at the Im Kind Restaurant in the hotel with a wonderful table on the patio.

Check in was easy and the staff was accommodating and kind.

but the staff actually made us feel uncomfortable.

This hotel is overpriced, and while waiting to be checked in by one attendant, there were at least three guests complaining about their stay.

Extremely disappointed in such conduct by unprofessional wait staff in an establishment that caters to customers. Unacceptable!

We arrived at 2.30pm, which is 30 minutes before official check in time and the receptionist didn’t even check if the room was ready, just tell us to wait until 3pm.

but we had to wait for ages for the table to be cleared and  we’re not asked at any stage of the meal was ok not  were we offered any dessert.

We could have waited downstairs at the reception if they let us know earlier that our room was not ready.

As he was not responding back at all and only was interested in waiting us to completely re-pack everything and pick up the payment slip and about to step out of the door - then he said:

‘How about another one?’

Guess his dream job was to be a policeman capturing thieves or watching people committing crime instead of working in a hospitality business!

I calmly waited for another 15 minutes and nothing was getting better!

First our driver dropped us off at the assigned parking lot and wait for the free red VW shuttle.

This meant we had to wait another half an hour ourside our new room before the same bellhop came again to deliver the correct card.

however saying that they did bring more out you just had to wait a little bit for it to be replenished so not a problem really.

but only one person so you often have to wait to get help.

but Eastern European and was slow and when we had waited 30 minutes for a strudel for dessert I kindly reminded him we were still waiting to which he replied ‘So, what is your problem’.

We waited until 1310, the shuttle bus did not arrive.

one morning we missed one and ended up waiting at Gosaumuehle for 20 minutes to catch the connection.

On our check out we waited 30 mins for the shuttle.

(i thought that's a good thing for the business) and we waited for quite a while before an older waiter come and serve us with good manners.

So it did not start of to well, you have to park out side of the hotel area in parking P1, problem is when it gets full you will be waiting quite so time to get a parking space, we waited for about 45 min to find a spot.

There is only one shuttle every hour and there are so many people waiting to go to their hotels.

Later on, the staffs ignored our table completely and we even asked more than 3 times for the bills (we miss the cruise while waiting for the bill).

Problem was I arrived after midday and the Parkhaus was full.. so I needed to really circle waiting for parking then lug my bags approximately 1km.

The entire guesthouse is run by a husband and wife team, you can imagine how busy they will be, handling reservations, check ins, taking orders for breakfast and dinner etc etc,

Check-out time was before our time of departure from Hallstaat,

Granted, the website does indicate that check-in begins at 2:00PM; I arrived about 11:00AM intending to simply leave my suitcase and toddle off.

After reading Happy_HEX's comments, I must agreed with my fellow Singaporean about a few issues : 

(1) Strict check in time from 2pm to 8pm.

Some points to note:
Check in is 2pm to 8pm.

We arrived early (check in started at 2..check out by 10:30) and left the car while we went out sight seeing.

The owner would come by to check and have a little chit chat with the guests.

As I reached Hallstatt before the check-in time, and when the owner picked me up from the pier, the first thing he told me was 'Its too early to check-in now' which I didn't expect to check-in too.

But you might want to check with them to make sure.

main door closes at 8pm and you will need to go to the side door to enter/exit.

There are two small sections of Hallstatt - the old historic center and the newer (suburbs) right next door.

There is the hall door which opens to an entry fourier and  then another door to the room.

We were relieved that the shower doors actually provided full coverage (we can't understand why so many European showers have half- or quarter-coverage doors!).

The main door is not opened before 7.30 am.

Finally the front door opened and the host appeared, angry and yelling something at me about reading the sign.

Due to the small set up, owners take a break around noon to 2pm so front door may b locked and u cant expect early check in.

We had a large and comfortable room and the host was very friendly.

All in all, a very relaxing stay at this fine, friendly hotel.

Small family run hotel, excellant views of mountains all around, very friendly and helpful.

The hosts Andrea & Gottfried Sulzbacher, are so customer friendly in such a way that they go out of their way to make your stay memorable.

The property is clean, in a great location and has friendly staff.

but very clean, the personel friendly and helpful (they even lent us a cable to load our mobile phones), the breakfast is ok, the Hotel is right next to the salzwelten and in a safe distance from the market Square.

The owners are very friendly and helpful.

The customer service was the best of our entire trip--including umbrellas, wine openers and glasses on request, and friendly breakfast service.

The owners are wonderful friendly people who make you feel at home immediately.

The hosts are very nice and friendly even though we drop our luggage off around 11:30am

But I must also admit that the female host was friendly and nice to us, so when we check-out, we purposely waited for the female host to be at the counter!

The Sulzbacher family was super friendly and helpful with hiking, running, restaurant recommendations.

All in all, this family establishment is friendly and helpful and the price is right, as we paid only 120 Euro per night,

And the owner is very very kind and friendly!!

My single room was quite small, had a desk, chair, single bed( not very comfy), and a tea kettle--wow!

Our room was tiny, even by European standards.

This is a privately owned  and the owner is absolutely arrogant to the customers.

The owners were always willing to help with questions about things to do or where to eat.

The owner was friendly and welcoming on our arrival and there was free parking right outside.

The owner is very nice and helpful always and it is also located near by the cable car, which is great!!

The place is extremely clean and the owners manage the place by themselves.

Fortunately, the owner rode a bike and caught up with me and gave my card back.

Property is clean and owners and staff couldn't have been nicer.

The owner was very helpful and we were allowed to do our laundry there for a very reasonable price.

The hotel was clean, staff was helpful and good English speaking.

But what set this hotel apart from the rest and exceeded my expectations was the home-cooked dinner prepared by the owners.

The staff help varies on time of the day.

We had a lovely 2 night stay in Gruner Anger, the host was very welcoming and helped with details about hallstat where to go and what to visit.

Rooms were comfortable, and the hosts could not do enough to help, in every possible way.

+ Rooms are clean and cosy
+ Interior design is warm and of good taste (reflects a traditional inn) 
+Staff were hospitable and tried their best to look after their guests.

Simple cheerful people who will do everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

but nice  accommodations and hosts Gottfried and Andrea are very helpful and accommodating not only offering to help with the laundry but also allowed us to use the hotel's personal machines.

No air con in the room which I knew when I book it,

To make matters worse, there was no heater in the room.

There was no air-conditioning or heating we could see.

but even in the hot August heat, they cooled down at night.

Perhaps ceiling fans on the upper floors would solve the issue?

The heat is radiant hear from the floor, and there is no thermostat in the room.

I think it would be awful in summer as there wasn't  any air con in the room.

The room lacked air conditioning and during warm weather in early June it was slightly too warm.

Also, if it's hot outside, your room might be hot and it would be a good idea to ask for a fan when you proceed to the reservation.

but it has no air-conditioning and I cannot imagine being on the 3rd floor in the heat of the summer with no aircon.

It was a bit warm in the unit (didn't see any AC) and there weren't any blinds/shades on the windows yet so had to cover with towels for privacy so people in neighboring buildings couldn't see in.

Watchout for upgrading to a 2 bedroom unit with a lake view.. it is really only a peek a boo view on the balcony.

anyway, the bathrooms receive little to no ventilation and the odor of mildew is almost stifling.

To be fair we were not charged for the strudel and the chef did come out to find out the problem.

like everyone Hallstatt looks like a post card town.
