This hotel and its location is amazing, everything is very close by, loads of shops, bar and restaurants, plus a slow walk to the funicular to the observation point high up in the mountains.

Robes and slippers, a multi-charging station for tablets and phones, high end toiletries, coffee and tea station with small assortment of coffee & teas, and mini bar / fridge.

They have complimentary breakfast from the package I booked, which includes fruit section, yogurt, bread and pastries section, up to 4 juices, coffee bar which is my favorite, and hot dishes.

Just in that moment, she was coming to the bar and we haerd Mario calling her July, I think that's the nickname of Julia.

One evening we wanted to sit in the bar and enjoy a drink,

the bar area and outside patio on the lake are a must do for happy hour.

The room also had  a kettle with a good selection of tea and coffee, and a fridge and mini bar.

Hotel: oozes old school charm, nice restaurant, patio, bar and indoor smoking room.

Seehotel Gruener Baum offers a cozy bar which was perfect for relaxing with a cocktail in the evening and their Continental breakfast buffet was rich with fresh breads, cheeses, meat, yogurt and fruit.

With a full-service dining room, the Gruener Baum offers all meals (although I also recommend eating at some of the other bars, imbisses, and restaurants in town).

Restaurant and bar service staff, professional, approachable and friendly, nice people.

The hotel has a wonderful outdoor eating a bar area right on the Hallstaettersee, which we only used once because the weather was too cold.

Although the hotel itself was exceptional there was very little connection between 'us' guests the evening bar staff, they were uninterested in serving and knew very little about customer service.

The back of the hotel - has lake views - which can be enjoyed from the bar terrace which is basically on the short of the lake.

Bar area, restaurant, and patio area were very nice.

kitchen, bar and toilets were very clean and illuminated. Wow!!

They also give you various chocolate bars, nuts, teas, coffee, etc.

The waterfront restaurant is very nice and the staffs are good .

The hotel is very close to the pier and postcard view point, you won't walk far.

It also looks the goods when crossing the lake with the balconies and and waterfront restaurant in full view.

This is one of the best accommodation in Hallstatt due to the closeness to the ferry pier.

This hotel is quite close to pier cross the lake from Hallstatt train station.

The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the pier where the ferry from the train station drops off and picks up.

The hotel is located in the town centre and next to ferry pier.

Immediately on the shore of the Halllstsatter See, at a place called Hallstatt, sits a landmark in her own right, the Seehotel Grüner Baum.

Firstly hotel's location is perfect, a v short walk from the pier.

The hotel location was excellent, just 1 min walk to the pier.

the hotel location is great, just 3mins walk from ferry pier!

The breakfast buffet offerings were the most expansive and abundant we encountered on a trip that included stays in Venice, Salzburg, and Munich.

Only 2 minutes walk from the pier and located right in front of the Marktplatz.

Perfect location on the shore of one of the most beautiful town.

This very charming hotel is a short walk from the pier and located righ5 besie the lake and the market square.

The waterfront restaurant in the hotel is one of the best places to eat in town.

One gets the sense that the owners have taken immense pride in restoring this beautiful lake shore hotel.

Price is higher than other hotels, It is just a minute walk to the harbour.

The server at breakfast was so very helpful as our child has a cows milk allergy and he took time to explain everything to us.

We ate dinner outdoors and enjoyed it and the breakfast buffet is extensive.

The breakfast buffet in the morning was so large and spread out that it was hard to know what to eat!

The food was delicious, as we've come to know here in Austria.

The breakfast is the richest we have seen in the past year of travel (pandemic).

Separately, the breakfast buffet included in the room rate had a variety of cold and hot foods as well as breads and cereals and beverages.

Staff is super helpful, rooms are very stylish and breakfast is great!

The Breakfast was also great with many options.

It was amazing, the service was impeccable the food delicious and great value for such a touristy area.

There is everything; shampoo, washing cap and even a sewing set! The breakfast is great, you’ll find everything and if you want something or can’t find something the staff is very pleased (and so funny!)

Breakfast was the usual fare, nothing surprising or amazing there,

Free WiFi is included as well as breakfast buffet is outstanding and very good quality.

The meals were delicious and waiters helped with choices and language differences.

The breakfast was included and was very extensive and classy.

Our room did not have any window, only the door to the balcony.

When the lift doors opened on our floor, we were greeted with a worksite, complete with workmen and an overwhelming smell of turpentine.

The tub was very tall and had a strange shower head set up and only a partial shower door, so it was almost impossible to shower without getting water everywhere.

The front desk opens at 8am so we ended up sliding our key under the door and paying our balance via email later.

the fan did little and I did not like to leave windows and doors open due to bugs.. not lots

While the town is usually cool even in the peak of summer, at night ones might like to sleep with door closed.

but seeing as it was 'out of season' I guess, we were told we couldn't sit out on the deck, and after that the verandah doors were firmly locked.

The coolest thing about the hotel was the knock on the door at 4 pm, where a very good-looking waiter brought me a plate of pastries!

We were required to keep to bathroom door closed at all times to avoid a slight sewage smell in the room.

Leaving the doors and windows open cools the room sufficiently,

Despite hanging the "no disturb / do not clean" sign outside our door, the hotel still came in to do basic housekeeping AND also sent in someone to do maintenance work on our balcony!!!

He knocked somewhat lightly the first time, so we didn't realize it was our door, and almost caught us in a compromising position when he dropped it off.

The bathroom door was  a sliding door which was unattached at the bottom and which did not completely close.

but a fan was provided and we could leave the door open at night.

The staff here are wonderful, friendly and helpful, the only reason this review isn't 5 stars is that there were definite issues with the room, doors sticking, the minibar not cold and the overhead shower spraying everywhere

We could not sleep unless we cracked open the balcony door at night.

I then had to go down four flights of stairs (in my pyjamas) to reception only to find the doors locked and a notice saying that reception hours are from 08:00 until 22:00.

The only suggestion I would make is to get some coat hooks near the door and a bit more wardrobe space for cloths.

.. with the door open at night we were lulled to sleep with the sound of the distant waterfall and crisp mountain air.

Which probably explains why there is a bright sensor light which comes on when going from bedroom to bathroom during the night.

The pros:
-Very centrally located on the main square of Halsatt
-Great lake view
-Good in-house restaurant with seating on the lake

The cons:
-Cleanliness
-Pillows too thick and bed not comfortable
-Curtains let the light through early in the morning
-Noisy (could not sleep because of our neighbours from upper floor who started talking at 5 am)
-Too many insects
-Complicated accessibility (by shuttle from parking every 30 mn or taxi, own car not allowed should be parked outside the village).

Unfortunately, there were no thick drapes on the numerous windows, and the lights from the Town Square shone in all night, making it feel like midday.

Some lights or torches would have been nice, to feed the ducks and swans if nothing else.

It is not good feeling under green lighting.

Your phones etc only charge when you are in the room and the light is on

Lamps in the room could emit better light - hard to read by.

There were more lamps than outlets, so the decorator evidently was not coordinating with the electrician.

Newly renovated and a few extras like lights beside the bed and towel hooks in the bathrooms are needed additions,

She was aggressive and defensive, asking me why she was only learning about this at the end (I had spoken to the other lady about the lamp).

..HOWEVER when we got into the room is was very big and plain. There were no bedside lights only one main light (Never ever stayed in a hotel with no bedside lights!!?!?)

all night the light in the corridor lightened my room.

They have very flimsy curtains that do not keep the high powered lights out of the room.

Light bulb burned out on terrace, peeling paint, etc.

Maybe the Hotel management have reached that stage were they are taking guest for granted, because there is an endless stream of tourists, so they just price them out as far as they can?

The town of Hallstatt was consumed with about 90% tourists from China and Korea.

When all the day trippers had gone home about 6pm it was absolutely idyllic to be on the lake and see the sunset and wake up to an absolute calm silent lake in the morning before yet another onslaught of tourists the next day.

Due to the fantastic location of the restaurant directly located by the beautiful lake, we thought this would be for one-time only tourist visitors,

Stayed 2 nights at Hallstatt as we refuse to just make it a day trip (which most tourists does)

Hallstatt is like a picture book, much tourists

An Asian aspect to the breakfast for sure, and likely a nod to the many Chinese tourists

The BAD: nothing in this category for the hotel!

During the days it's very crowded and the town is full of tourists, so is the hotel restaurants..Book a restaurant in advance for lunch or dinner cause you pay a visit if you stay here.

Perfect hours to walk around Hallstatt are early morning or late afternoon because of less tourists.

perhaps they assume tourists will eat anything and be happy for it?

Room is good size with beautiful balcony that is overlooking the whole like you see in all the tourist pictures for Hallstatt.

As an interesting aside, China has built a recreation of Hallstatt, so this location is extremely popular with Chinese tourists who wish to see the real thing.

Beautiful quaint town overrun with tourists and the wait staff seem tired, literally.

The big tourist groups left at about 4-5pm and Hallstatt was super beautiful when it was quiet.

My husband and I stopped here for one night to celebrate his birthday and didn’t realize it would be us with hundreds of Asian tourists!!

Many of the stores are really set up to accommodate the tourists.

This town is lovely, and if you stay the night, be sure to get up early to take photos before all the day-trip tourists arrive.

Downsides are that you have a longer walk with your luggage and to/from breakfast.

While the breakfast buffet was different, there was still plenty of options to feed our picky teenage children.

The breakfast buffet was wonderful as well as our dinner at the main hotel.

Excellent restaurant with delicious food.

Both breakfast and dinner was delicious and almost felt like fine dining.

Breakfast was ok and had a few options for vegetarians and vegans.

They have an extensive all you can eat breakfast buffet and can eat outside on a nice day.

Enjoyed the buffet breakfast with good variety of food.

Staff was super friendly and the food (breakfast and dinner) was very good.

Restaurant is good (the Wiener schnitzel was amazing, rest good) an breakfast is ok

Good thing is I could then got ready to go out taking photos before day visitors arrived and came back for a buffet breakfast which I find quite good. Cereal, yoghurts, fruits, breads, croissants, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, meatloaf (with spicy one available as well), grilled veggies, cold cut meat, smoked fish, cheeses, fresh veggies, tea, coffee, juices, and Prosecco(!!!)

It has a very good breakfast as well with a restaurant next to the lake.

Each of the rooms were also equipped with coffee machines

Breakfast was included in the pricing and the spread was fairly decent.

But we did eat breakfast which wasn’t great at all.

but has bread, eggs, sausages etc which should be enough for most.

Our block was quieter and had a better view than the ones in the main block which has a car park and loads of tourists in front of it.

We drove with a car and parked outside at P1 and then walked for about 10 mins or less to the hotel.

Despite it's openess, the car park is relatively safe

The shuttle bus was conveniently waiting at the car park when we arrived so we had no wait time which was great.

You can visit the salt mine and skywalk by taking the cable car which is within walking distance.

If you have a car, it needs to be parked outside the town at a special parking station where we waited for the half-hourly shuttle.

As we rent the car and parked in the public parking space, we required the to take the shuttle bus as we have some luggauges.

You have to leave your car at designated parking lot.

While we walked into town from the parking lot (about 1 km), the staff told us about the shuttle service they provide so our return trip to our car was easy.

If you visit by car, drive through the tunnel and continue around 400 metres to parking area 1 where you can then catch the little shuttle bus to the hotel.

Every car has to park on a parking lot outside the town and then we have to wait for the shuttle to bring us to the hotel.

Pre-arrival the hotel was very professional in its emails also explaining how the shuttle worked from the edge of town car park for guests and explaining the cost for breakfast.

but a 15 min walk if you come in from bus terminal and you can pick up Hallstatt taxi that is only allow to go into this car free zone area for those we heavy luggages!

No out of town cars are allowed in this section of town so you need to take the shuttle to the main hotel and the staff can help you with your bags or take them on your own.

We opted to walk in the morning to get our car because we didn't want to wait for the shuttle and it was a quick 10-15 minute walk through town.

You have a car park right in front and then a boat dock,

Because we rented a car, I wanted to make sure that we could park the car at the hotel.

but it does cost 12.00EU to park the car.

Location in town is convenient - need to walk through town to get to hotel as cars not allowed during the day.

although a bit too warm so I opened the door to let cool air in.

Take care that other guests lock the front door as there seems to be no other security.

As he was not responding back at all and only was interested in waiting us to completely re-pack everything and pick up the payment slip and about to step out of the door - then he said:

‘How about another one?’

Guess his dream job was to be a policeman capturing thieves or watching people committing crime instead of working in a hospitality business!

The rooms do not have air-conditioning so you have to leave the doors and windows open which means all you ever hear is people talking.

Since we kept the window & door open to cool the room, the lights lit up our room the entire night.

She stands by the door stoic faced and watches me move the luggage and no offer to help or ask if someone should be called to help me with luggage.

but to close the door :((((((

The last but not the least was the wifi connect was absolutely ridiculous.

but inside again the W.C. has different door so did bathing area.

We had to wait several minutes to be shown to a table; there was no host waiting by the door to take down room numbers and to show guests to a table.

We ran out of shampoo in the room and the front desk girl came right the door with shampoo , shower gel and body lotion.

Not to mention the staff at the restaurant, who rudely told us to leave, and either did not understand my question about room service, or was just trying to shove us out the door.

So we drove to the hotel front door thinking of dropping of the luggages and then park our car somewhere.

When the door finally opened, the elevator was full of cleaning stuffs and we overheard some staffs downstairs chatting and laughing out loudly.

After initially being discouraged that our room was in the furthest historical building from the main building that housed the reception and restaurant    and having to climb up 3 flights of stairs (no elevator), our mood quickly changed when the door to the room opened.

The shower had no door and somehow the water did not find its way to the drain,

If you stepped off the boat and look into the open window you technically can see into the bathroom if the bathroom door is not closed.

It had a separate living area with a door that opened up to a small balcony overlooking the lake.

We came back to find a dent in the door and a paint chip,

If you described the main building of the hotel as the door of the heritage village, I'd describe our building the heart of the village.

(see picture) actually i dunno they upgraded our room to Junior Suite, just found that when i'm ready to checkout and noticed the "Fire Safety Instruction" on the door, it mentioned our room is Junior Suite.

Just having breakfast at the hotel restaurant, full of holiday goers from China.

BTW, I reserve the room about 4 months ago directly at their website, not a third party travel site.

Even someone tried to take away an adaptor- is it necessary for a hotel staff to play the Gotta-Game?

because hotel staffs and housekeepers were chatting, joking, and laughing very loud in front of our room.

but the bell was very loud when it rang at approximately 6am in the morning.

He came and yell at us to move to table of 2, while we were stunned as he yelled so loud, he yelled once more.

I could hear people above me talking and above the ceiling I could hear the walking and moving of chairs and the loud talking.

This property is right in front of the water taxi which means that day and night there are hundreds of loud tourists in front of the hotel.

Finally they agreed switching our room to the other building at 3rd floor(but without elevator) 
The most annoying part was that they tried to play dead saying they can’t see what my room reservation was.

Slow check in mainly due to many multiple parties all conversing in English which was no ones mother tongue.

but it can be loud given it faces the ferry pier and carpark, so if you want somewhere quiet you might want to look elsewhere.

Too bad the family downstairs talked very loud, they really did make themselves like home, I had no choice

wedding party on the nite we arrived until 2am, awful sleep.

On the last night there was a wedding with music still playing at 12:30am.

but the person ignored my questions about price and parking, only asked for credit card to finish the booking, after a few emails I got the price and so I answered why the third party website is cheaper than the hotel, the answer I got is simply ask me to book through third party website, so I did, and when we got there, we got the only room without balcony.

We then went to breakfast (in our rate) and had to listen to the American pop music station that plays in my teen car pool during the school year, completely ruining any ambience of being in a new country by a beautiful lake surrounded by limestone cliffs and overall stunning scenery.

but lots of loud, somewhat obnoxious tourists taking photos (we're tourists too, but be courteous!).

The receptionist talked in a very loud voice and I did not to talk back with her.

Restaurant choices were also a bit poor

although there were a tour group checking in late night and they were quite loud - so that was the only complaint i had

An unexpected issue was that on our second night a party of 8-10 men sat outside on the restaurant patio and had a jolly, sometimes boisterous, evening of drinking.

Disgusting room, with blood stains on my pillow and bathroom seat, black marks everywhere on sticky floor.

During the process we mentioned the drainage issue in the room hoping they can get fixed thus next guests will not suffer - and we realized at that moment he JUST DOESN’T CARE!

but can do nothing for drain, just said: well it is, can't help.

but it was very dirty lot of buildup, spider webs and debris.

Also the far away buildings are above, perhaps residential properties that run fireplaces and billow smoke into the far away buildings.

although there was one guy, very poorly dresed, with a beard, strange smell and a black eye helping around breakfast tables.

This hotel has a marvelous location with major drawbacks, for example, the photos do not convey that the balcony for which you pay dearly,  places you over the main ferry parking lot and also, in at least one building, over the outdoor restaurant and bar area which is quite smelly and smoky.

but no old smells and very up to date colors, furniture, fixtures.

When we entered the hotel the smell was terrible, of Naphthalene.

I was tripped by an irregular step, and had a nasty fall.

The food in the hotel's restaurant was absolutely disgusting and made both of us feel nauseous.

However, upon checking in and entering our room, we were met with a rotten/foul smell which can only be compared to feces.

Since we visited in early Nov, it was cold & damp .

- the beautiful wooden floors that the place prides itself on are only suited for the ground floor and not for the floors above - our neighbours above were heavy footers and we could not go to sleep because of the stomping and the squeaky wooden balcony they were using for smoking, which felt like someone was stepping on your head.

After a good deal of complaining to the receptionist at the main building and even showing her how disgusting the room was, I was then moved to a room on the 2nd floor in the same building.

You will smell smoke if you leave the windows open on a cool night -- rather unpleasant when you'd love to have fresh air, and this is supposed to be a non-smoking room.

It seemed like all the smoke blew up into our room.
