We had a wonderful stay, thanks to the friendly staff, delicious food, and excellent facilities for children.

You want a quiet, safe and beautiful place with excellent customer service, modern rooms with card key, clean and beautifully decorated, good breakfast and an absolutely FANTASTIC view of lake Hawassa …stay at Haile.

Breakfast was a nice spread (mainly traditional ethiopian) with a staff member making omelots.

Public areas are plentiful with a view of the lake.

Very often, they know what we need and prepare the food in our breakfast prior to our order.

The rooms are spacious and clean, there is a great variety of delicious food and the pool is fantastic.

The swimming pool is a cold on cloudy days

Sadly, as reported multiple times over the years, the water pressure is disastrous, making showers an exceptionally unpleasant experience as the surging cold water means that the water rapidly fluctuates between icy cold and scalding hot.

The shower water kept going from hot to cold during the shower.

Upon getting up we asked about the water and someone came up and turned on the tap to tell us that there was no water - then later only cold water.

Shower ran boiling hot, then cold, then hot again, then cold, then hot again, then cold.

The pool temperature was a little too cold for me to venture into,

but it was cold so I wasn't going to swim anyway.

but when you are eating cold mashed potates and gravy it just ruins the whole experience.

.it just felt "cold" with not a lot of  hustle and bustle.

Cold meats were canned spam-like, not deli style, no yogurt, hot dishes appeared to be frozen heat and serve type, like chicken nuggets, little to no choice of fresh cut fruits.

The resort had poor standards and lacked attention to details.

Water in shower poor - either too hot or too cold and not powerful.

but they led to a level of frustration that create a poor impression of the whole hotel.

Two issues though:  soundproofing between room and between the room and the hall was quite poor.

Food and service were poor in the main restaurant.

It's a real shame the poor staff ruin the reputation of what could be a very nice resort.

Wifi / Internet connection was very poor

You can not go out of dinner after 9:00pm as you can not find a taxi outside the reosrt and the hotel did not support to get a taxi, so I was forced to have my dinner at the resort 

Asked for tooth brush and only came after a number of followups

The service was at best poor and the food only average.

I don’t blame them as wi-fi connectivity is generally poor all over Ethiopia.

Generally poor design and layout detracts from tasteful decor.

Food is the killer; an apparently inexperienced chef is attempting over ambitious dishes the results are very poor.

There was lots of choice for Breakfast and lunch & evening menu had a mix of European and local which was tasty.

You also have great time eating breakfast with "Gureza".

It was sent back with a further explanation.The same ingredient was in the second serving.

Good:  lakeside location, ambiance, resident monkeys, murky green pool water, and breakfast. 2.

and the food at the breakfast was terrific.

!starting from their booking to their breakfast quite the most interesting place to be at when you visit Hawassa.

The flower banquet surprise they prepared in the name of me and my wife, the exciting lake view bed room, the delicious beach side breakfast + lunch + dinner, the boat drive on the lake were really enjoyable.

It is also a bird haven as well as monkeys that you can actually feed… I had breakfast with one—literally.

Great breakfast, friendly staff and relaxing pool area.

I enjoyed watching the monkeys at breakfast , they are certainly very cheeky and after your food!

The breakfast buffet is average and the food quality at the restaurant is good.

A picturesque lakeside terrace with refreshment service and extensive breakfast on offer, massage, super pool, first class restaurant, efficient staff and more.

We sampled the local wines, which were surprisingly good, and there is a wide ranging menu encompassing all of those international favourites, together with Ethiopian staples which we were introduced to by some local guests – these were all delicious.

Some of the wait staff were even willing to play with our restless toddler for some time during breakfast.

Breakfast was in the dining room with conservatory style windows was poor.

Breakfast was very very poor in a small room no tea or coffee and not replenished.

It can be confusing as there is a Lewi hotel, make sure you are booked into the Lewi resort as the hotel is very poor.

It was extremely poor anytime we needed some help or information during our 6-day-stay.

Sleep quality is then more than poor, and overpriced.

At USD120 a night (riverside room at $110 plus $10 for child's bed), to find the grass between our water view room and the lake hadn't been mowed, that there was broken furniture at the seating area used exclusively by the handful of lakeside rooms, and to see power points hanging out of the wall (super fun with a small child) was disappointing.

Unfortunately with my wife I spent 4 nights in this rubbish hotel , I don't have right words to describe this place so old and so dirty, terrible service terrible food and breakfast only for local people don't expect to get one cookie and if you need a glass of water they charge it.

in the water when we only were in the boat for about 15-20mins.

The water heater (feed-side) hose catastrophically failed.

There was only cold water available in the shower and anytime it was turned on, water would come from the bottom and make the whole bathroom floor wet.

Also, taking a shower was not relaxing at all as only a few drops of cold water came out.

the only thing that i don't like is the temperature of the swimming pool , maybe its because i like hot water .

Check that your hot water has been turned on as this is often turned off during the day.

The lake side view is priceless and you should watch out for surprises like water and power outages.

but terrible in other places) shower, low water pressure and worst of all the dusty mosquito nets being to close to your face when sleeping (lake view rooms).

I was in Month of April 2015 the hotel went down instead of improving i checked in by 3pm my room was not made they check me in a darty room not only that when i complain that there is no water i ask them to bring me water to  flash the toilet they did  not i have to call two three times finally they came after 6 pm.

You will need to switch on the water heater in the bathroom if you would like hot showers.

The worst part was the bathroom which had a standalone shower, that leaked copiously and was impossible to get any hot water from.

(Of which darkened waters harbor both "hippo festival" and "hippo parliament", if you go by authorized tourist guide Tefari's description - he's a swell guy, by the way!

My colleague's water boiler exploded in the night: fortunately he was not in the bathroom!

but it's not good hotel 
There are too many  mosques and the water pressure in bathroom is not enough to clean my hands. .

The shower had various gimmicky settings which of course didn't work!

However the rooms needed some maintenance (cracked window, damaged tiles) and the shower alcove was far too complex for a low maintenance and poor power supply environment, instructions were non-existent.

The room I stayed in was dark, fly screen on the bathroom window was torn, the shower had very low pressure, the shower heads were clogged and the sliding door was broken.

but was very hot, the jacuzzi bath was broken we had a power cut and despite the website stating it had a generator it did not come on.

The showers are very outdated, and water leaks.

.the bathrooms are almost always a disaster.

The shower was dreadful and needed updating

We had to ask for the shower to be fixed and it took them overnight to send someone for that.

In my third room I took a shower and I had a flood in the bathroom.

The shelf in the bathroom was falling off the wall.

The bedding, the white towels (faded and appeared brownish), the shower and almost everything was old.

Then we had to complain that the toilet didn't flush

(Fortunately they placed the electrical wires away from the shower in my bathroom,

It would have been madness to have attempted to have a shower here.

We were 5 persons (from Ethiopia, Poland and Germany), spent 6 nights, good location, less than 10 minutes walk to lake, rich breakfast, buffet readily refilled, beds very comfortable, were decorated with fresh flowers twice during our stay.

Our main requirements were a clean room, our own facilities, flushing toilets, hot shower where possible and breakfast.

Breakfast buffet is rich and the a la carte restaurant serves very delicious local and international dishes.

Room is quite clean and I am personally very happy with the breakfast.

Breakfast was buffet style with cereal, porridge, pastries and some self service hot selection, which I didn't try.

The breakfast buffet has both western and traditional dishes, all good.

Breakfast consisted of Ethiopian food and fresh omelette/pancakes, toast and jams with fresh juices in the mornings.

Our room was very comfortable and the breakfast was varied and satisfying.

The food is incredible - the traditional Ethiopian food is delicious and they also do pizza and a variety of Western choices which are very nice.

The room came with breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

very cooperative staff and good breakfast (included in the price).

Breakfast cone flax (not a typo) and the toast came with a serve of fried vegetables.

Breakfast buffet was a delight and the food served in the resteraunt was also very nice.

Breakfast was a good buffet - and much faster.

however trust that the noise will soon decrease if a anti-noise-pollution-law  comes through  in Ethiopian Parliament.

but hotel has generator so we had overhead light and hot water.

Then the electricity went off and the generator did not work.

Noisy rooms - all the rooms face a central garden in which the kitchen is located!

there was a constant movement in the hall way throughout the night and very disturbing.

One does have to bear in mind the very ‘rural’ location which means that neither electricity nor water are always 100% reliable.

but most of the facilities did not work, including the hot water!

However, others in our group were in the older section of the hotel and had a very different experience, one had no hot water during our 3 night stay.

Water leaks, shower floods the whole bathroom, water that comes out of the tap is brown, and it smells.

No matter how much I ran the water, it either came out really brown, or just slightly brown,

In the morning, due to electricity, the water could not come to the higher floors and we ended up with the same problem again - We could not take a shower.

The bathrooms have this complicated enclosed shower that doesn't really work well (doors don't close completely, steam function didn't work) and I never had warm water in the AM (some did, others didn't).

And in morning no water at all and a power cut.

At first we did not have any running water in the room which was fixed immediately.

Furthermore, we had some nasty looking brown water coming out of the faucet.

The bathroom, despite its enormity and quality materials, stinks likely because of direct drains to the sewer, yet the glass shower stall does not drain properly and there always was a puddle of water outside the stall.

The window does not lock and the receptionist tells you “it’s ok”.

The window opened onto to the coridor at low level and because of that I wasn't happy to leave the window open at night due to the obvious security issues.

Also please be aware that the curtain is smaller than the window.

but then we found out that there were hundreds of mosquitos at night - we had to figure out  by ourselves how the mosquitoes entered the room and had to fix the open space between the wall and the big window.

Other people also had problems, such as doors either not locking or not unlocking, a toilet cistern that leaked so unstoppably that the bedroom floor was flooded, an inaccessible window left wide open in a room that didn't have a mosquito net etc etc.

Zebra Guest House is less than a 5 minutes walk away from the lake, the staff is outstandingly hospitable and welcoming, you can also request amazing breakfast if you don't feel like going out in the morning.

Amazing friendly staff, cosy garden with two lovely dogs, great breakfast and location - just next to the lake, restaurants, local market etc. Hightly recommended:)

There is a lot to like about Zebra guesthouse, for example the beautiful garden, the very friendly service and the delicious breakfast.

There is free wifi and they serve great breakfast with smoothies and lots of fresh local fruit (and if you ask nicely they make lovely Belgian waffles).

Lovely quiet place, 2 minutes walk from the beautiful lake (look for the local guy who walks around with delicious ginger tea in the mornings), garden with hammock to relax and read your book.

Toilets don't flush, got electric shocks off the shower.

The bathrooms could be renovated and sometimes if there's no electricity, then there's no running water.

the room was problematic, no hot water and the toilet were in pretty bad conditions.

The staff of the Hotel is very friendly and polite.The staff of the Hotel are speaking a very good english so that there was no problem to communicate.The Hotels is located in the center of Awassa and you can reach via walk restaurants, bars and so on.The food in the Hotel is very nice and even the breakfast is without complains.

The next morning we had the breakfast buffet, which had a lot of variety.

The room is clean & most important ally the staff is friendly to guests which is much appreciated  & we enjoy your Delicious food.

The breakfast delicious and the pool was refreshing.

The breakfast and dinner experience were great, good spread of local and international cuisines.

Great spa services, wonderful internet, excellent view from the rooms, classy lobby designs, very classy artworks, the twin bed is huge and comfortable, well if you're a true explorer then you sure would like the different dishes traditional and continental too.

The staff arranged a delicious farewell dinner for my group, featuring every imaginable Ethiopian dish, and to top it all off, they treated us to a final coffee ceremony just before our departure.

The free breakfast had a lot of options and was quite tasty.

It is a big hotel, I had a clean room, nice (if not the best) breakfast in the city, friendly staff (English) and a patio where you can sit and drink a nice mixed juice.

Many national gourmets come to enjoy traditional dishes here and don't hesitate to try their lam tips, it's delicious!

great hotel, with very nice rooms and good service, breakfast is also a treat, the only down side being located far from the lake in awassa, the pool and gym are great additions to this new hotel.

but it was more like a “hot pocket”, if you know what that is.

Unfortunately, both times we stayed there, we all had to call room service for towels and there was no hot water for a shower (the second time we had to call the front desk to ask them to fill the water tank).

I had no hot water in my room for a large portion of my visit.

The temprature in the room was hot at night, making it difficult to get a good night sleep.

You request for tea and you get 1 (one) tea bag and a pot of hot water, essentially they are telling you no seconds or reuse the bag.

However, it is almost at the city center and there is heavy traffic around it ,

It is a little noisy in the evening due to the hustle and bustle of the city.Internet was excellent, just an inconvenience to keep on changing passwords for each device daily.

but we left after one day - couldn't bear the noise from the mosque.

The outside is very loud and there were dogs that prowled around at night barking loudly all night!

I took the room by the compound side (not by the street side) so there was no any disturbing noise.

Thankfully the room also offered a good shower, something I have come to miss from most hotels in this country,

If it wasn't for the excruciating noise, this would have been a pleasant stay.

but at list a standard to the gust that are choose them:
     - The standard rooms are terrible the light are not working to there full function
     - The shower room; door is broken or lost, the shower heads are not working and scales is accumulated and water is liking out from the bath room
     - The food order other orders are take too long time and sometime they confused or missed the order.

Additionally, the shower heads didn't work (not enough water pressure) so we were stuck with using the tap for a bath and the shower leaked all over the floor.

but I did not see anyone checking the water purity.

We only discovered that after the bath was filled with water.

but mango & pineapple are also available, after which we have a healthy breakfast.

We had French toast and omelette, both of which were exceptional.

Breakfast is made expressly and there is a good choice,

The breakfast was amazing with a huge mango juice, French toast and pancakes enough to feed an army.

We had a large top floor room with a big double bed and a large balcony for 550 birr during the week without breakfast.

but for approximately 5 USD you can have a full breakfast inclusive of eggs juice coffe/tea
Will definitely stay next time I am in Awassa

The restaurant/bar, called "Hi-Life" is popular and serves great food with a decent selection of Ethiopian and continental cuisine and seating outside and in.
