I’m a fan of the dark interiors, the purple on black, the slightly risqué photographs in the common areas.

but everything is really dark, with the woodwork painted black and there is very dark wallpaper.

though it might be a little dark specially inside chests and the wardrobe.

The look and feel of this hotel are quite decadent, dark velvet textures and different tones of lighting with a romantic feel.

The decor was tired, with black walls, black lamps and black lampshades; the lighting was dim and the room was dark.

but that might have been that it was starting to become dark and raining.

The décor is boutique baroque, with lots of textures, bold, dark colours and heavy velvets.

The only tihing to make better is to have more lamps at the hotelroom, a bit dark.

It’s charming with a decadent layered decor; damasks upon Bergere chairs, dark wood, and a bit of sexy black thrown in for modernity.

The decor is kinda dark and "gothic", as you can se from various photos.

If there would be something to suggest is to add more light, because it seemed a little dark to us.

Hotel location reasonable (not great), rooms very very small and claustrophobic (dark colors), no place even to put the suitcases, all the hotel is always dark even during the day time, few times needed help from the reception and didn't get it as receptionist was not local/ couldn't help at all, very old building - could hear every time anyone in the near rooms makes a shower or go to the toilets.

There's a great smoking room tucked away in the hotel (think leather lounge chairs, dark walls, a glass of port and a fat cigar), without any smokey impact on the rest of the hotel.

Dark walls, velvet drapes, mildly erotic picture behind the reception, I wondered for a moment exactly what kind of establishment I was checking into. .?

Baroque patterns, heavy and dark curtains, chandeliers, velvet wallpapers, etc.

While I loved the decor with its gilded ceilings, purple fabric walls and black chandelier, my partner felt that the decor was too dark.

With the ideal on-canal location, terrific staff, superb accommodations, and wonderful breakfasts, the hotel was our gateway to a few magical days in Amsterdam.

We dress warmly with lots of layers and enjoy watching people walk by.

Beautiful room, comfortable beds, lovely, solicitous professional staff, a peaceful and quiet location that felt very safe.

If a trip to the bathroom is needed during the night you would need to go down the steep circular stairs.

but it was actually on the sitting room level and she neglected to provide instruction on various features (such as the curtains being controlled by a remote), however we managed to muddle through on our own, including carrying the luggage up a very steep flight of stairs to the sleeping area.

The only con was the extremely steep almost vertical stairs to our room.

**Had us carry the heavy bed on stairs - it was so difficult and painful**.

These results in hallways that take abrupt turns with 2-3 stairs, or different ceiling heights, and unexpected views out little windows.

It does have lots of stairs as it is a combination of old buildings, so you need to be prepared for that, even with the lift.

These houses are tall and narrow which includes the stairs.

The rooms are all different and you have wind your way through hallways and short stairs (there is an elevator)

A note about the very steep stairs would have been welcome at the time of booking as not wholly appropriate for my 91 year old mother, although she did cope admirably

To get to our room we had to take either two separate elevators or two different flights of steep stairs, and inside our room there were two steps to get into the bathroom.

but if you have trouble with stairs be sure to let them know so they can assign the right room.

In the merging of these canal houses, some rooms are accessible by a lift, others primarily by stairs.

but if you find walking stairs a challenge make sure you tell the staff when you book so they can accommodate your needs.

but if you have trouble with stairs you might want to ask for a room where there are fewer of them.

I felt terrible because it meant the staff member had to haul our luggage to a higher floor by going up & down the twisting stairs,

but for my room and several others you still have to climb stairs and there is an occasional step or two in the long winding corridors.

Our room was up some narrow stairs, as befits the history of the canal houses, and was tucked under the attic style angled ceiling.

Only caveat was the narrow stairs getting to our room, just be prepared : )

Highly recommended!

Because the hotel was made by connecting various houses, there are a lot of steps, steep stairs, lifts and narrow corridors.

“There are some stairs” they told us at reception.

Every day was special from the lovely and excellent breakfast made by Alphonse, Sandra and other great people, to the wonderful desk staff who were always friendly and helpful, including Jean-li, Kouatar, Shafani, Noureddine and Patrick- who gave us great restaurant recommendations and much other excellent advice.

We had a weekend stay here…staff were very helpful and friendly.

One thing I would say is the rooms are small,

She handed me the room key and again made no effort in explaining anything about the hotel to me I had to ask about the arrangement for breakfast which she says I will need to book the night before because their dining room is small and not all the guest can just come to have breakfast the same time.

I was in 413 and the room was small so suitable for 1.

I booked a twin or double room ages ago and I reminded the lady at check in at reception that we need a twin room if available and she said yes, only to discover when we opened the door that it was a single tiny room!

However the room was a little on the small side (there was nowhere to store our suitcase).
