Most people use the rear entrance anyway as the car park is around the back.

My Wife and I stayed with Thomas and Anna for 7 days in early July 2009, Travelsphere weren't going that week so we took the car from Hampshire!.

To which she went and asked Thomas, the answer was a direct NO.

One soap bar the size of a 10p piece was expected to last, and surprise was expressed when a fellow traveller requested a second. .

but not 'pushing' any itinery though always happy to offer advice if asked.

We asked to be moved and even this seemed to be unheard of, reluctantly they gave us another table.

After an enjoyable evening and a bottle of wine, sadly, as expected, we still didn't sleep due to the road noise and fellow guests creaking around. Breakfast.

the hotel location is very nice if only there is no busy road in front of it, specially when you want to admire the view by the lake, have to be very careful when crossing the road.

however there is the main road running between the hotel and the lake.

The road is not particularly busy, and noise from there is not intrusive.

On arrival, the hotel looks pretty and does indeed look over the lake at the front and green fields and trees at the rear. It  also looks over the main lake road (which a local told me can be almost impossible to cross in high season!)

though the road separates the hotel from the lakeside lawns the traffic is not as horrendous as has been made out - though care is needed.

First initial thoughts were "what a busy main road" and not as pretty as described in the brochure.

The room was:
- clean and bright from sunshine
- big and equipped with a practical sitting corner with table
- with lakeview from the balcony.

It has very big rooms was perfect for what we needed.

We spent five days in the hotel in a room with a view to the lake.

Our room was very big with a large bathroom and there was a lovely balcony with excellent views over Attersee and the Schafberg mountain.

Great buffet breakfast (boiled eggs, breads, spreads, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, cold meats and cheese), very clean spacious room and bathroom, comfortable beds and huge pillows, wifi works, friendly owner, and beautiful view of the lake!

Pluses - immaculately clean, large rooms, beautifully positioned by the lake, Thomas (mine host) had a very subtle sense of humour.

the food was really nice as were the rooms (luckily we had one overlooking the lake) location was great (10 mins to the very small village) just a shame that travelsphere will not be using this hotel next year, some misunderstaning with a previous rep???

We had lovely food, clean rooms and the best location in Austria.

My room was large and spotless so no complains there.

but, all in all, a perfectly acceptable room.

If you are one to have your meal, then retire to yout room, to read, rest or watch tv this was suffice.

but there would be plenty of room for two or even three in the room.

Huge and very comfortable bed, a practical sitting area, a flat screen tv, a nice bathroom and a big balcony made us feel like at home.

The is obviously no air conditioning so I assume the rooms could get hot.The staff are all friendly.

but imagine lack of air con for hot weather could be a concern for some.

There is a small tourist information centre opposite the hotel and a bar at a hotel down the road.

The bar/restaurant offers a good variety of fare at reasonable prices.

The dining room is run with usually just one waiter who also works the bar, so getting meals out is done without ceremony and if you haven't finished your previous course then the next will be put in front of you in any case!

There is a nice garden bar where we ate out in one night when we had a barbeque.

Other people on the tour also commented on the poor quality of the food and service.

However, evening meal very poor (a low 2 star)

With around 40 in our party and other guests too the poor lad was rushed off his feet.

Evening menu was extremely poor; First course was soup with HALF of a small bread roll per person;  main course was a choice of two options which was of inferior quality, poorly prepared and served with tinned vegetables.

The staff were without exception friendly and welcoming, the food was good, the rooms were spotless and the bed comfortable.

Rooms comfortable and clean with excellent views across the Lake, which is only about 100 metres away.

Some passengers commented that rooms did not appear well cleaned when they returned each day.

I had a single room which was quite large and had a balcony.

The prices for these rooms on B&B basis is a steal so definitely worth the visit.

The facilities in the room were of an appropriate standard for a gasthof

If you get a chance, ask for room 38 - a one bedroom suite, the best room in the hotel.

Had a double room looking over the beer garden with partial views of the lake.

We had a very good size room which was clean and comfortable.

I shared a room with my sister and we had a twin bed and and also a single in the reasonably sized clean room.

The second thing you notice is how clean it is - the rooms are immaculate.

We arrived at Gasthof Sonne without having a reservation close to dinnertime and we were greeted by the staff pleasantly and a room was arranged for us.

On arrival the welcome by the owner was nice and pleasant we were shown to our room which was more like an appartment the room was vast with its own kitchen, pantry, living/dining room and everything was spotlessly clean there was a lack of storage for clothes so most of them stayed in the suitcase.

The room we had was huge - more of an apartment - it had a kitchen, pantry, living/dining room, balcony as well as a bedroom and bathroom.

but needed the room heating on late evening - cosy enough.

The rooms were very clean and comforable.

Friendly people nice views and a central spot for touring around the lakes

It is a few minutes walk to the lake - if you reach the bandstand there are some benches right at the waters edge - beautiful views and sunsets.

This hotel is in a small village and I would recommend walking at the side of the church and keep going to see the fantastic view.

The en-suite bedrooms are amply sized and and all have balconies (some of which have views of the lake).

Our bedroom was as expected of a typical Austrian type with large balcony with delightful view.

The location was good and you get views of the mountains and lake, the village is mall with not very many amnities

but the views of the lakes and the mountains make up for that.

The kitchen is open to view by guests and was kept impeccably clean.

but the  village itself doesnt really appear to cater for the tourist trade and is very quiet and undeveloped.. 

i was in room 19  ((single ) at the back of the hotel but didnt get a view of the lake., just the back garden.

The view of the lovely village (especially the church) was excellent.

The family owned and run hotel met all our expectations - very comfortable clean rooms with excellent en-suite facilities.

The rooms are clean and spacious and the food was quite nice, despite there being a very limited choice of menu.

We were here on a business trip with my colleagues, the rooms were very clean and good looking, all with big balcony or terrace.

Stayed here for Christmas with a coach party, we were made very welcome, room was clean and comfortable, Christmas dinner was a triumph.

Great location on the lake at Gmunden, the private beach area and food were excellent and all staff were friendly.

Beautifully located on the shore of Lake Traunsee ad towered by the majestic Traunstein mountain this family run hotel offers well equipped  spacious rooms, ample and easy parking, a beautiful garden and free access to the lake.

Info: It seems you can take one of the ferries on the lake to there, as they have a pier out front.

The staff who were at reception- I think they were mainly family - did have good English and were extremely welcoming and helpful.

This family hotel is run like a well oiled machine, as it has been in the family for generations and they know what they are doing.

This is a family runt hotel with a fantastic situation just in front of lake Traunsee.

The deluxe room was quiet as requested and private , very comfortable

The morning of checkout, we were issued a key that we could use for the day to access the private lake access area, and we had a wonderful afternoon enjoying the water and sun.

The rooms are clean and comfortable.The service from the staff was excellent.

The only positive things about this hotel is location and friendly staff.

Overall this is a nice place to stay, traditional styling and reception staff were friendly.

The best part of our experience was the people who ran both the hotel and restaurant who we found wonderfully friendly and helpful.

but this is just crazy, if i pay 3 € i expect at least fair product not this scam.

No tea-making in the room (fairly typical for Austria it seems).

Dont expect Ibis or Travel lodge style of accommodation.

The room was great and storage + charging for our bicycles was very

Our room was large, with 2 separate bedrooms, ensuite, kitchen where we could cook, (no fridge), a lounge with sofa and TV, all very clean and tidy.

This was Franz Josef's hunting lodge, and hunting lodges are not known for comfort.The room was clean

though we were required to go elsewhere and it was lucky that the bed was comfortable as there was no entertainment and an early night was the only option.

When approached by our representative group the attitude seemed to be "take it or leave it"
A party of German tourists received far better treatment (they even got live entertainment)
The promised traditional schnaps burning was given to the other party whilst we were on a day excursion .

We had one of those YMCA rooms with the bulky old TV’s and yes, we sat outside our rooms because the Lietner family were entertaining their own family and friends and the bar and lounge were ‘out of bounds’, and Barry T your right, we made our own entertainment for 2 days, and the Christmas dinner was appalling.

As noted above the reception lady Gerda Leitner was Outstanding!!

Comfortable, clean and the staff were enjoyable.

On arrival the staff will be dressed in Austrian style clothing and you will be caterer for, regardless of what you ask for and in various languages.

Staff were rude, bathroom was ,no doubt ,very good in the 1960's.

No where to chill out together as a group so a few of us went off site to a fantastic bar down the road who always welcomed us.
