The staff is friendly and the breakfast very good.

THe breakfast offered was wonderful and served by a lovely young lady and the only other staff are the cleaning girls and handy man who were also wonderful - felt like coming home!

The next morning we enjoyed a very delicious breakfast in the castle, everything you need available.

They have free parking too and delicious restaurant just below the castle and a nice park too which belongs to the property I believe it’s a trip back in time

A very good and ample breakfast buffet was served in a historic room on the ground floor.

Breakfast was also great and there is an excellent kids park about 750 meters away.

They have good breakfast and very nice staff.

but it's very close to drive into beautiful Rattenberg for lunch or dinner and believe me the breakfast is ample enough to get you through until lunch or even dinner!

As of the castle itself it looked really nice and authentic, the room was spacious and clean, the breakfast was good.

Our breakfasts were equally impressive with a European, multi-course buffet of meat and cheese selections, salmon and a variety of breads, oats, cereals, and eggs.

Breakfast was good with freshly cooked eggs to order.

In the morning, before our fantastic breakfast, I took a walk through the beautiful grounds out the back of the castle, around small lakes filled with fish.

The castle and rooms were breath taking, the food was delicious, and the location was amazing.

However, the doors opened wide and we were let in to a towering courtyard that really could have been out of a scene from a Bram Stoker novel.

Have in mind that the restaurant next door does not belong to the castle.. and is not five stars feeling like the castle..

though my wife and I were only there for a night, Matzen delivered a true castle experience, with multilevel courtyards, massive gated doors, spiral staircases, and a tower packed with the latest spa equipment.

So another 5 minutes go by, we're freezing and finally they manage to open the door from inside.

The only thing to stop thieves (or worse) to enter our room was the 300-year-old door locker - ridiculous.

The other problem is the noise, the whole day you will hear doors banging, people walking in and out, talking etc..as the rooms are not sound proof.

Looking at some of the complaints, just call them to book a table at the restaurant below before you arrive if you want dinner there, don't take your dogs if you want to leave them there all day, and check how many stairs to your room if 2 or 3 flights of stairs are going to be difficult for you.

For a dog they charge 35 Euro per night and you can not leave him in the room unattended, not like in other hotels in Austria.

When we asked what we supposed to do with the dog, we were told to lock him in a car!

She also was really demanding with an employee in the same courtyard and was rude when her young dog came over to say hello and my son and I wanted to be friendly back.

We arrived in the dark to an imposing looking building and had to ring the buzzer on a huge wooden door.

Be aware that in the off season (winter) the restaurant will be closed and reception will be non-existent for most of your stay so if you don’t have a car you will be stuck and reception will refuse to call a taxi for you if you call and ask them which was annoying.

but the electronic door buzzer wasn't working right. The man on the phone said, "You must be doing it wrong!"

So we had to stand and wait outside (it was minus 7 degrees btw) ringing the bell and trying to communicate with a non English speaking person.

but actually has not a lot to offer, closes at 7pm and you need to call to the reception in order to ask them to operate the sauna.

In the event that you arrive outside normal business hours you must call for admission to the castle – the phone number, as well as instructions, should be on your confirmation.

The décor is lovely and pretty, the same can not be said for the rest of the stay and with pathetic WiFi.

The only negative points: The Wifi is slow and the water could be hotter.

The man who was inside just said that the door is working fine and that they just gave us a wrong code!!!

Many cons - lack of services in general, very  bad wifi on our suite, no room service.

The restaurant is expensive with a very limited menu and its the only place you can eat around there, the wifi doesn't really work due to the structure of a castle, the owners are in the hotel at all times and you get to notice that without any introduction which comes across as unfriendly and also puts pressure on the hotel staff, therefore not warm and welcoming as you expect.

THE AVERAGE: WiFi did not work in the rooms and you had to go to common areas to receive it.

although we could have been warned we needed to have a code to get back in after we went out fora walk and returned around dusk - felt like a poor wayfarer rattling the gates of the castle to be allowed in.

but due to the nature of construction (foot-thick stone walls) the wifi signal couldn’t be detected in our room, only in the breakfast room or study.

I made a reservation to this hotel by booking.com for my sister birthday for tge end of June 2023.

It is very important to book ahead to avoid disappointment (we only asked day before and only massage was available).

but walked into the village and dined at a local Italian.

Room 608 had ensuite shower room and 609 had ensuite bath which may be preferred to sooth aching limbs after a day skiing or walking.

but there are walks and exercise classes organised by the hotel if you are a little more energetic.

We came here for cycling - had a fantastic room, even a sauna in it - a lovely balcony and a superb ecological breakfast.

The fact that we only have to go downstairs to the restaurant for a delicious fresh four course dinner makes our stay at this hotel complete.

The staff is very helpful and friendly, breakfast is amazing.

We left a message about the heat and the noise and that we could not sleep.

We were hot and tired after a long drive.The room was very hot and had no air conditioning.

Just when we needed a good night's sleep, we got none.

I had a bad cold so one day I slept in and we only went out for an hour or two in the early afternoon, our room was clean when we got back.

Last 6 months many hotels were too full of tourist, no parking place and at times poor service even in 4 star hotels.

but other than that it's 5 stars from me!

The breakfast offers homemade bread, marmalade, cheese from the own farm and so on.

A great hostess and her adorable mother ("Mutti") ensure you have everything you need. From a home-made breakfast every morning, with your eggs made just the way you like them to coffee and (yes, you guessed it: home-made!)

Breakfast was an additional 8 euros pp pd.

On our second day, for example, Elisabeth came by and offered us some fresh baked plum cake and on Sundays, the breakfast includes a special, homemade cake/bread.

The breakfast is always sumptuous even with freshly squeezed milk!

You should note that although you are booking an apartment, you are still within the house so not entirely self-contained -

2ndly, the owner tried to hit us up for an additional 4 euro per room, because for only one night her profit was cut because we booked with Booking .com.

At the farm itself are two ponies, chicken, sheep -one male that was kind of playful- and goats.

but slightly more expensive, so I guess this is what they all eat for breakfast!

They treated us more like guests than customers and really made an effort to share the local food and culture with us (even to the point of inviting us to a town concert with them and treating us to the local Zittertal beer there!).

You'll definitely need the car to drive around- otherwise there aren't many restaurants around the area to have dinner!

but would probably stay in Fugen if we came here again, so we were closer to the Hochfugen ski resort.

We also went to, as far as we could tell, the only other restaurant in the town, which was on the same side of the road and slightly further down.

The area nearby is beautiful and we hiked between a number of different towns and experienced the "Almabtrieb" in one of them (a fall festival when the cows are paraded down from the hills into the barns for winter).

The food is home produced, tasty and plentiful.

The food was plentiful, hot, yummy and served with a smile.

This was the perfect place for touring the valley, train station just outside, we took the half board option food was plentiful and the room was very comfortable, lovely view of the valley from our balcony.

Food was excellent - wholesome and buffet style - dinner massive and great selection, breakfast basic, and lunch was rolls/cheese etc - which we prepared and packed ourselves each day for our skiing in the mountains.

Breakfast was good, simple cereals, ham/meats, cheese, fresh bread and a few other things.

However, I would advise you to take a travel kettle as the hotel do not provide one.

Our room was at the front of the hotel & you cannot hear the train at all.

We enjoyed every morning a very extensive breakfast, and every later afternoon cake & coffee after skiing.

The breakfast buffet was rich and the service was polite and offered special help considering our food intolerance (milk protein).

We spent two weeks here at this hotel and not only were they able to cater to our dietary needs the food was delicious and not at all over priced.

Breakfast was really good and we had also delicisous half board for one evening.

One example is that they vary the breakfast selections daily, there was an information paper on our breakfast table every day informing about the weather forecast and today's menu, and they even fold the bed quilt in a new style every day (!).

On our next stay we’ll likely request a room on the top floor as we could hear the people above us.

Obviously they completely disregarded my request.

Finally, the bed and the pillows were uncomfortable plus the sheets were worned out with holes.

We ate breakfast in the Hotel and New Years eve dinner was a buffet.

We’re not foodies, and enjoyed the meals that included daily 3 PM kuchen buffet.

and one sentence said that each guest receives a discount card upon registering.

There was one page in the brochure that unfortunately had not been translated - we discovered later that it told about the Saturday afternoon at 4PM we discovered the  gondola station that ran to the top of the mountain,
