Also four star hotel without airco or even a fan… mediocre breakfast with way too few places to sit.

Not really happy:
Booked a suite for one week and air conditioning was broken.

Unfortunately, it was freezing cold and the temperatures were hitting 1~2 degree celcius, and the river infront of the hotel was frozen during the second day of my stay..

but no airco, and expensive parking (per day €15,-).

I was given a room exactly opposite a noisy air-conditioning unit, on the office building opposite, which made the ill-fitting double glazing whistle throughout the night.

However, there is no air con and it was extremely hot even with the window open.

but a lack of air con and wifi in rooms means this doesn't make the mark for a business stay.

No a/c - we were informed later than a/c was available on 4th floor

The dust in the ventilation of the windows looks like it has been there for years.

There was a continuous strange smell in the bathroom and we didn't use the jacuzzi since there was no heating in the bathroom and it as quite cold.

I'd be wary of staying in hot weather as there is no air-conditioning.

Although the street in front has quite a bit of traffic, we left the balcony door ajar and did not hear any street noise during the night.

The room was kept clean and everything was satisfactory.

The room was was very clean paying attention to the details.

- convenient location, close to train station and city center

- scenic view of Lake
-  lunch/Dinner is not available

Reception staff are friendly & professional, room was clean, comfortable and had a great view from the balcony area.

The room was spotlessly clean and a good size, and the fittings were of good quality.

The room in itself was clean, I had too little contact with the staff to be able to judge them, the view made me want to shut the curtains,

The room is always clean and the beds are exceptionally comfortable.

The rooms were clean and spacious - every day a supervisor came to the door and verified it had been cleaned to our satisfaction - which of course it had been.

The rooms were clean, the location good and convenient car parking.

The outdoor seating area also needs more attention regarding cleaning, also the footpath: cigarette

The dimly lit bathroom had a shower/tub combo with a little mold in the grout.

but the halls smelled of tobacco and canabis.

Carpet and curtains were old and had disgusting stains on it, furniture & decoration were mediocre, far from luxurious as advertised (specially for a Jr suite), bad quality towels and the bed too soft to our taste.

but quite noisy due to the traffic and also, at times, hotel clients who stood outside the hotel's front door directly under our window, having a smoke and a chat.

Besides, there was black mold in the bathroom.

but the clear presence of ashtrays in the rooms!?!

The minibar fridge was filthy it had stuff spilled all over it.

Slightly nasty free shower gel and shampoo - bring your own!

That wasn't the reason for dropping the 5th star though.

The room itself is not quite 4 stars, there were no bathrobes in there and it was quite cold when we arrived.

For a hotel that has a 4 star rating this definitely needs improvement.

And these things are unacceptable for a hotel pretending to have 4 stars, aren't they.

but once you enter the room there are things you would not expect for a 4 star hotel.

Again this seemed a little odd for a 4 star hotel.

Could literally hear the conversations and later the snoring from next door.

Very noisy at night, the rooms are not clean, you can't open fully the bathroom's door because the bed is stuck against it, and the food was just awful!

Very noisy and the main door was banging every time someone came in the hostel were the rooms were.

He accompanied us back to the room then entered the room next door and did something that stopped the noise.

He came back to the room at 1am or 2am, he was talking loud and laughing to himself, made very weird sound, band the door and kick the bed.

At 09.30 they knocked on the door to clean the room.

What I got was a door that can see through and virtually zero sound proof.

My own room as on ground level with double door out onto a narrow seating area on the side of the canal.

though there is ventilation through a vent in the door (which I guess lets through a lot of noise as well).

Less noise in the morning people speak loud.

but as soon as we got into bed the noise started again, just as loud.

The staff were excelent, friendly and helpful, we had an issue with a really loud noise coming from te neighbouring room which turned out to be a heating problem and the sorted it out for us straight away and apologised.

Too loud while i was sleeping in the room.

It was a Saturday night and there was a party organised in the hostel bar.

Unfortunatelly that night we stayed there, there was a very noisy party in the bar till for sure 1.30 am.

In the night it was very noisy a lot of people near our room.

A rather special experience after travelling hostels in the whole world is staying in a room without windows and with stuff shouting You out of the room late after midnight!

but there was a sound coming from the hallway and there wasn’t anything to hang our clothes in the room.

However good get noisy , if you have one of the rooms in the ground floor.

The room was not so “sound-proof”, so our noisy neighbors and rain over the roof made it difficult to sleep.

but the thing is the hostel part is not really soundproofed.

but the music was so noisy that it was impossible.

Clean rooms, lovely big bathroom with enough shelving space for toiletries.

The room was clean and cozy with extras such as a water cooker and bathrobe with slippers.

but the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable.

The hotel was warm and welcoming, the room was clean and had the usual tea/coffee making facilities.

Personally I find this place underrated to be honest, wonderful staff, very calm and clean room.

Only the airco was broke during our stay. Due to that we had to stay in our own room in which the ventilation was poor (we didnt book a room with a window)

We have stayed in the hostel and the rooms have no windows.

We stayed in a very warm period, and there was no windows in the room, and the walls was very thin so everything happening outside the room could be heard inside.

The room was dark, with inside window to the corridor.

However, it would have been much better with a improved ventilation into the rooms as there is no window in the room stayed.

There is neither ventilation, nor a window, while the mattresses are plastic wrapped..

Filth in room,filth in bathroom,bad wifi signal,no windows in room in one word bad in everyway,the girl who works at the front desk was very rude when we were checking out and when I criticized the cleanliness of the rooms.

It seemed to be run by a team of young women who always seemed to be working if it wasn't hovering they were cleaning windows or dusting.

Yes, the walls of the rooms are thin indeed, and I can also confirm that there are no windows in the room,

But there were two very unpleasant things: 1)  Our room has no window (I guess the most rooms are without windows) and no air conditioning.

but do not under any circumstances allow a small kid to turn the water on hot in the sink or in the shower.

Alsof was there some lipstick on the toilet.

There was no holder for soap in the shower.

The bath towels where the size of a tea towels.

The shower was not working propperly and the room was not very clean.

The internet doesn’t work, the heat doesn’t work, the bath was dirty.

The room is a really odd layout, There is a toilet with a door to separate it from the room.

Room shower is indecipherable and did not work and if worked the cubicle was confused and confused me more,

To make matters worse, we had been woken early on Saturday morning by market stall holders setting up all along the street with no consideration for the residents of an obvious hotel.

.every 15 mins :(  will be disruptive to sleep.

After some searching the host told it was ok regarding the noise at this time of the year.

In total when I hear "Grand Hotel" I would expect higher quality of service, cleaning and bed linen at least.

We had room 104 at the front of the hotel, due to the noise of the bar on the other side of the street and the noise of the market starting at 5 in the morning, we had a very short night.

but we had number 106 on the front side of the hotel across from a bar from the street so we couldn't sleep due to the noise.

The only thing what we did not like was that a previous guest had done something to the tv-connection that resulted into disturbance of the signal of several tv-stations.

but apart from a snoring neighbour next door we heard nothing.

but the downside is, is that you hear everyone leaving the bars etc.

I prefer the rooms on the inside of the hotel as the road/bar and alley can be a little noisy at times.

I definitely did not like noise from a bar outside – just opposite the hotel in a pedestrian street where both are.

When we were honest in our answer (which was; not so much due to the noise outside), it was like we should not mention that because we got a room on the inside in the middle of the night.

but we were wrong with noise until at least 2am.

A lot of noise from the pubs on the outside of our room.

however, right at front of hotel and very noisy.

Just sweltered all night and even with two massive window open couldnt get cool, and then had noise to factor in, plus the mosquitoes had a field day!

I left the window open to the noisy street and so got bitten heavily by mosquitoes (~15 bites per foot).

We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel Alkmaar

This hotel is ready for minor renovations, our room was very clean,

Maybe if the management would take care of clean rooms and more employees we would visit again.

Once used to the arrangement the room was kept clean and was big enough for the 3 of us.

I even stayed in the honeymoon suite, another room had a sunken bath, with another a sauna in the room and each room was clean and welcoming.

The room was clean, modern and had a big bath for 2 persons (even with my wife who was 7 months pregnant).

If they offered a lighter blanket, or sheets, this could potentially solve this problem and I can close the window at night.

In the evening when we got at the room the noise was very loud (music from a bar), even with windows and ventilation shutters closed.

Had to avoid putting on lights unless curtains closed as view could be seem from reception.

And they gave us a loft room with only one small windows.

One of the roller blinds was broken and so we could not open or close it.

We had to come down and request the air con remote control at reception which did nothing to help the heat as the cooling seemed not to function at all so we were left tying to stay in a room about 30 degrees and windows that opened onto a stuffy courtyard.

but the window in the sauna can not be blinded.

We soon discovered that there were two noisy bars with live music outside our window and an all-night takeaway food shop.

but when showering the toilet and got wet and the floor was soaked (no curtain) but the worse are the beds which are way to soft which killed my back!

In summer on the weekend leave your windows closed.

but opening the window let in the noise of people in the houses you have in front of your room and a street near to it.

Only thing is that the room was very warm, even with the window open.

One large window and a large Velux type window each had blinds so at night the room was dark enabling sleep.

Not as much fun, we had to throw blankets up to make a curtain.

With the windows open the temperature was was just about bearable,

Besides, Alkmaar is too pretty just to remain staring out of your window anyways, just go for a walk.

The room cleaning was poor, the wet towels were crumpled on top of the heather.

Its like someone is moving when they are cleaning the rooms upstairs and “living” in the room or using the bubble bad are also things you can hear.

Stains on the carpets , bathroom not cleaned properly.

Just the cleaning left room for improvement.

However, they eventually agreed to arrange for it to be cleaned.

is that the cleaning lady was knocking at our door at 9 in the morning

the maid just left them on the dresser when she came in next morning to make the beds!

Secondly housekeeping was a litlle bit sloppy.

Bad points: The room had not been properly cleaned.

Housekeeping left the used paper coffee cups as well as the half used coffee 
supplies   Long lines at reception with undereducated staff make the slightest question intolerable.

but no one has changed the clocks in the rooms (on the coded TV, so not even possible for me to change); some room TVs have BBC, but others don't; the beautiful shower (and it is), but with taps and controls that can't be used with wet hands; the shower tray that is a grid and everything falls through it; the lack of a housekeeper to check rooms (although mostly the cleaning staff do a reasonable job).

I pointed out that we had booked breakfast as part of our deal and produced a hard copy of the booking.I could hear my friend getting the same treatment from the receptionist booking him in alongside us.

After he went with me and heard the deafening sound, to be fair, he stepped up to the plate and noise went down: night was ruined nonetheless: not a minute of sleep, and that was what I hoped to be receiving. .

it's possible to hear the one or the other aircraft at night . .

But sitting in the hot tub at the pool, I spoke to this nice lady who came there with a welness package and having about 25 kids and 2 teachers its not really peace and quiet that you're getting.

although the conference room is a bit noisy.

Hotel itself has a pretty busy (noisy) lobby/lounge area which also served as restaurant when i stayed.

We also reported a broken showerhose in the steam-cabin and a rather annoying noise from the electric fireplace (a squeaking roll I suppose).

If you decide to stay at this place, insist not to stay on the ground floor cause everyone else will pass and make noise near your room while walking to the elevator (or trying to find the right one).

Being over the flight path also can make for a noisy night.

Through the thin  walls I could hear the conversation ,coughing and snoring of the next door guests.

You have to hope that you have no noisy neighbours, or party people in the corridors.

The only very bad point was that I was in room 254 and this was on the side of the highway and Schiphol departure, very noisy and absolutely inefficient double glasses, a lot of noise, awaken at 05.15h in the morning !

In the middle of the night lot of noise by people on the hallway or outside.

Located in the countryside west of Amsterdam, this would almost qualify as a rural retreat, except for the constant aircraft noise and proximity to the motorway.

Rooms are clean and spacious and the restaurant is well worth the money.

Thank god the room was clean and tidy otherwise would of been a nightmare trip

The rooms  are great and immaculate, well thought through in their design pn the basis of decades of va nder Valk family experience.

Rooms were well cleaned and well maintained.

Facilities are very contemporary and have a nice feel, room was immaculate, bed rather comfortable yet there was one fault and this may be attributed to the particular room received.

Once there, the room was clean and spacious,

Good value for money, clean and rooms are quite big.

The suite was filthy there was dust everywhere, on the glasses on the coffee machine on the taps where there were also dirty smudges everywhere, on entering there were flies flying in the room and the floor was also filthy.

Could smell the cigaretts when we entered the room , after a few hours with open window it was gone.

Our deck was littered -complete with used/dirty ashtray and the half glass partitions render it unusable for non smokers.

The smell inside the room was not to pleasant on arrival.

Smell of paint was irritating and uncomfortable.

but:
The full ashtray in the balcony,was not clean from the check-in day to the last day.
