There were quite a few West Ham fans who would have spent quite a bit of money

Also four star hotel without airco or even a fan… mediocre breakfast with way too few places to sit.

Not really happy:
Booked a suite for one week and air conditioning was broken.

Unfortunately, it was freezing cold and the temperatures were hitting 1~2 degree celcius, and the river infront of the hotel was frozen during the second day of my stay..

but no airco, and expensive parking (per day €15,-).

I was given a room exactly opposite a noisy air-conditioning unit, on the office building opposite, which made the ill-fitting double glazing whistle throughout the night.

However, there is no air con and it was extremely hot even with the window open.

but a lack of air con and wifi in rooms means this doesn't make the mark for a business stay.

No a/c - we were informed later than a/c was available on 4th floor

The dust in the ventilation of the windows looks like it has been there for years.

There was a continuous strange smell in the bathroom and we didn't use the jacuzzi since there was no heating in the bathroom and it as quite cold.

I'd be wary of staying in hot weather as there is no air-conditioning.

Although the street in front has quite a bit of traffic, we left the balcony door ajar and did not hear any street noise during the night.

Breakfast was good and in relation to the price.

however are delucious: you have to try them, yummy!!

Friendly staff both at reception and breakfast.

Even in between the pandemia they manage to give you a ver nice breakfast for take to the room.

Check in was very sweet, we got a lot of information, about the hotel, the special breakfast situation, parking and not the mention about Alkmaar and the region.

The breakfast buffet was well filled and copious.

Breakfast, served until 10:00 am, not extensive and some fillings were no longer available, the other offerings were reasonable to good.

Space, calm, wifi, breakfast, close to city centre and parking (we were able to park for free in the school car park next door due to school holidays).

There was a big selection of hot and cold breakfast options all adequately topped up before anything ran out.

Friendly staff, good buffet breakfast, perfect location for exploring Alkmaar centre.

My co-worker and I had breakfast at the hotel, and it was very good.

It was a good Continental breakfast with a decent range of options.

Breakfast was included in our price, and it had a little bit of everything.

Breakfast buffet was good: scrambled eggs, poffertjes, all sorts of bread, juice, coffee, tea, fruit.

The outdoor seating area also needs more attention regarding cleaning, also the footpath: cigarette

The dimly lit bathroom had a shower/tub combo with a little mold in the grout.

but the halls smelled of tobacco and canabis.

Carpet and curtains were old and had disgusting stains on it, furniture & decoration were mediocre, far from luxurious as advertised (specially for a Jr suite), bad quality towels and the bed too soft to our taste.

but quite noisy due to the traffic and also, at times, hotel clients who stood outside the hotel's front door directly under our window, having a smoke and a chat.

Besides, there was black mold in the bathroom.

but the clear presence of ashtrays in the rooms!?!

The minibar fridge was filthy it had stuff spilled all over it.

Slightly nasty free shower gel and shampoo - bring your own!

That wasn't the reason for dropping the 5th star though.

The room itself is not quite 4 stars, there were no bathrobes in there and it was quite cold when we arrived.

For a hotel that has a 4 star rating this definitely needs improvement.

And these things are unacceptable for a hotel pretending to have 4 stars, aren't they.

but once you enter the room there are things you would not expect for a 4 star hotel.

Again this seemed a little odd for a 4 star hotel.

but do not under any circumstances allow a small kid to turn the water on hot in the sink or in the shower.

Alsof was there some lipstick on the toilet.

Ripped of Durex packaging under the bed and black hairs in sink.

There was no holder for soap in the shower.

The bath towels where the size of a tea towels.

The shower was not working propperly and the room was not very clean.

The internet doesn’t work, the heat doesn’t work, the bath was dirty.

The room is a really odd layout, There is a toilet with a door to separate it from the room.

Room shower is indecipherable and did not work and if worked the cubicle was confused and confused me more,

but that was not really a problem after a warm bath (but it can become a little cold).

To make matters worse, we had been woken early on Saturday morning by market stall holders setting up all along the street with no consideration for the residents of an obvious hotel.

The daily breakfast is convenient and tasty, offering bacon, sausage, eggs, sliced deli meats,  croissants, pastries, juices,  coffee etc.

The basics were fine: clean efficient, good location, good breakfast, etc.

The breakfast buffet was very good and varied.

The first morning of our stay we had breakfast after that we cancelled our breakfasts for the following days.

Reception was welcoming, breakfast was good.

We didn't try the breakfast at the hotel, so I can't review that.

The location of the hotel is excelent  and breakfast is good.

The breakfast is international and well taken care of.

but overall it is a good hotel
The breakfast was very reach and tasty with very good selection of bread, vegetables, cheeses,  etc.

The next morning we had a great breakfast.

Breakfast in the morning was great, enough choice and tasty.

Breakfast is a buffet style and has a large selection of cooked and cold options.

This is my third time stay in this hotel and it has been modernized over the period, in the same traditional English Bed & Breakfast style in a Dutch mansion.

Breakfast was 14 euros extra for adults and kids ate free.

.every 15 mins :(  will be disruptive to sleep.

After some searching the host told it was ok regarding the noise at this time of the year.

In total when I hear "Grand Hotel" I would expect higher quality of service, cleaning and bed linen at least.

We had room 104 at the front of the hotel, due to the noise of the bar on the other side of the street and the noise of the market starting at 5 in the morning, we had a very short night.

but we had number 106 on the front side of the hotel across from a bar from the street so we couldn't sleep due to the noise.

The only thing what we did not like was that a previous guest had done something to the tv-connection that resulted into disturbance of the signal of several tv-stations.

but apart from a snoring neighbour next door we heard nothing.

but the downside is, is that you hear everyone leaving the bars etc.

I prefer the rooms on the inside of the hotel as the road/bar and alley can be a little noisy at times.

I definitely did not like noise from a bar outside – just opposite the hotel in a pedestrian street where both are.

When we were honest in our answer (which was; not so much due to the noise outside), it was like we should not mention that because we got a room on the inside in the middle of the night.

but we were wrong with noise until at least 2am.

A lot of noise from the pubs on the outside of our room.

however, right at front of hotel and very noisy.

Just sweltered all night and even with two massive window open couldnt get cool, and then had noise to factor in, plus the mosquitoes had a field day!

I left the window open to the noisy street and so got bitten heavily by mosquitoes (~15 bites per foot).

If they offered a lighter blanket, or sheets, this could potentially solve this problem and I can close the window at night.

In the evening when we got at the room the noise was very loud (music from a bar), even with windows and ventilation shutters closed.

Had to avoid putting on lights unless curtains closed as view could be seem from reception.

And they gave us a loft room with only one small windows.

One of the roller blinds was broken and so we could not open or close it.

We had to come down and request the air con remote control at reception which did nothing to help the heat as the cooling seemed not to function at all so we were left tying to stay in a room about 30 degrees and windows that opened onto a stuffy courtyard.

but the window in the sauna can not be blinded.

We soon discovered that there were two noisy bars with live music outside our window and an all-night takeaway food shop.

but when showering the toilet and got wet and the floor was soaked (no curtain) but the worse are the beds which are way to soft which killed my back!

In summer on the weekend leave your windows closed.

but opening the window let in the noise of people in the houses you have in front of your room and a street near to it.

Only thing is that the room was very warm, even with the window open.

One large window and a large Velux type window each had blinds so at night the room was dark enabling sleep.

Not as much fun, we had to throw blankets up to make a curtain.

With the windows open the temperature was was just about bearable,

Besides, Alkmaar is too pretty just to remain staring out of your window anyways, just go for a walk.

We checked in shortly before 2 PM on 9th Oct. 2022 at the Van der Valk Akersloot for a 3 day stay (Deluxe room incl. breakfast).

Breakfast has really slimmed down due to all the restrictions.

Minute omelettes or eggs, fresh juice and fruits, and all the things you could want for a good breakfast.

Hotel Akersloot offers quiet and luxurious rooms, an impressive breakfast buffet and high-quality food in the restaurant.

Breakfast was great with a massive choice.

The breakfast was really good and the staff were attentive.

As with all Van der Valk our experience with check in, parking, breakfast in the room, roomservice is always great!

Breakfast is buffet style and very comprehensive.

When I was booking on Tripadvisor, I was supposed to get breakfast included.

Some of the highlights include the excellent food and beverages.The breakfast buffet with a massive selection of fresh, high quality options and superb coffee machines is my personal favorite,

Also the breakfast was really good and a lot of choices.

The breakfast buffet is a treat, this is the first place in the wordl - and I have travelled all the continents and tried many of the upscale cruisel lines- where the meat options for breakfast are presented in a display that is continuously sprayed with a cold miist to keep them fresh!

but for us it was ok.  very good breakfast which hardly leaves nothing to be desired .

fine room, far from entrance, free parking, great bar, ok rtestaurant, lounge and buffet restaurants.

It has great deal on the buffet, not to mention fresh food with lots of different food options.

but if you want to go crazy the food is good quality buffet.

The room cleaning was poor, the wet towels were crumpled on top of the heather.

Its like someone is moving when they are cleaning the rooms upstairs and “living” in the room or using the bubble bad are also things you can hear.

Stains on the carpets , bathroom not cleaned properly.

Just the cleaning left room for improvement.

However, they eventually agreed to arrange for it to be cleaned.

is that the cleaning lady was knocking at our door at 9 in the morning

the maid just left them on the dresser when she came in next morning to make the beds!

Secondly housekeeping was a litlle bit sloppy.

Bad points: The room had not been properly cleaned.

Housekeeping left the used paper coffee cups as well as the half used coffee 
supplies   Long lines at reception with undereducated staff make the slightest question intolerable.

but no one has changed the clocks in the rooms (on the coded TV, so not even possible for me to change); some room TVs have BBC, but others don't; the beautiful shower (and it is), but with taps and controls that can't be used with wet hands; the shower tray that is a grid and everything falls through it; the lack of a housekeeper to check rooms (although mostly the cleaning staff do a reasonable job).

I pointed out that we had booked breakfast as part of our deal and produced a hard copy of the booking.I could hear my friend getting the same treatment from the receptionist booking him in alongside us.

After he went with me and heard the deafening sound, to be fair, he stepped up to the plate and noise went down: night was ruined nonetheless: not a minute of sleep, and that was what I hoped to be receiving. .

it's possible to hear the one or the other aircraft at night . .

But sitting in the hot tub at the pool, I spoke to this nice lady who came there with a welness package and having about 25 kids and 2 teachers its not really peace and quiet that you're getting.

although the conference room is a bit noisy.

Hotel itself has a pretty busy (noisy) lobby/lounge area which also served as restaurant when i stayed.

We also reported a broken showerhose in the steam-cabin and a rather annoying noise from the electric fireplace (a squeaking roll I suppose).

If you decide to stay at this place, insist not to stay on the ground floor cause everyone else will pass and make noise near your room while walking to the elevator (or trying to find the right one).

Being over the flight path also can make for a noisy night.

Through the thin  walls I could hear the conversation ,coughing and snoring of the next door guests.

You have to hope that you have no noisy neighbours, or party people in the corridors.

The only very bad point was that I was in room 254 and this was on the side of the highway and Schiphol departure, very noisy and absolutely inefficient double glasses, a lot of noise, awaken at 05.15h in the morning !

In the middle of the night lot of noise by people on the hallway or outside.

Located in the countryside west of Amsterdam, this would almost qualify as a rural retreat, except for the constant aircraft noise and proximity to the motorway.

The suite was filthy there was dust everywhere, on the glasses on the coffee machine on the taps where there were also dirty smudges everywhere, on entering there were flies flying in the room and the floor was also filthy.

Could smell the cigaretts when we entered the room , after a few hours with open window it was gone.

Our deck was littered -complete with used/dirty ashtray and the half glass partitions render it unusable for non smokers.

The smell inside the room was not to pleasant on arrival.

Smell of paint was irritating and uncomfortable.

but:
The full ashtray in the balcony,was not clean from the check-in day to the last day.

The bathroom was very small, too small as it was hard to use a towel after the shower, also the closet hanging space was very small.

No coffee or tea making equipment, no extra shampoos and I couldn't work out if the walls were plastered awaiting painting or the dull brown color was the way they were meant to be.

When showering, the entire floor gets wet.

The bathroom could be a little more clean and all fittings should be de-calcified.

However, too little boards to put things on in the bathroom and only two little hooks for the towels.

There are rooms with only a shower and rooms with bath and shower.

but I had asked for the room early because I had just flown over night from the U.S. and wanted to be able to rest a bit and shower before my meeting which started well before the official check in time.

but does the job and the bathroom looked like someone had just plastered it and decided that was that.

Some little things I don't like: 1) there was an annoying "click" sound in the room at certain times and 2) the water in the shower was not running through too well, making the morning a water ballet.

Was transferred to another room which was ok.

though I do prefer a bar of soap to bath gel, and there were no tissues .

In general the room's furniture and amenities looked worn and out-of-date.

There were a couple of minor points though:

- there is no shower cap in the room and none to be found in the whole hotel which is a problem for a woman with long hair who wants to use the rain shower without getting her hair wet.

Sauna unfortunately far too cold and only one shower

but when I took a shower the bathroom floor was wet all over.

A sauna, yep, taking p lots of space, a big old sauna, Infra Red too, as in no coals, walk around the sauna, round the back, the sink?

Yet, for a four-star hotel, we would have expected some more amenities in the room.

The facilities are also good - a nice indoor pool, pleasant quite chic communal areas and an excellent included buffet breakfast.

but breakfast was fantastic - home baked bread, special jam, soja milk, slices ginger etc.

Nice breakfast buffet with enough healthy options, good sized pool and and client friendly staff.

Dinner in restaurant and breakfast was good

Breakfast was excellent, evening meals are a bit cheffy, trying to be fancy in presentation and not maybe the best value.

I had a nice breakfast and was happy to be able to rent a bike.

Breakfast was excellent with a great choice and good quality.

Breakfast was a continental buffet and was tasty and pleantyful.

Highlight are the good breakfast and i can recommend the massage.

Amazing hotel with breakfast that almost deserve a Michelin star rating with great smiley service and very fresh products all served with a natural and easy flair !

We had our wedding in this hotel. What an amazing day it was, thanks to the lovely location, the friendly staff, the fantastic food (diner and breakfast superb!)

Dinner was lovely and breakfast amazing - so much choice.

Overall the room and the entire hotel was great, especially the breakfast.

Beware = they charge you EUR 15 per night for the crib, even if you paid in advance a rate that includes the baby; this is not a nice surprise ;-(.

Stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights, check in was a bit slow, key card for the room did not work, same issue with other colleagues.
